A Simple Day of Work (Invite Only)

A calm, quiet day. At least, it was by the standards of Shibuya's loudest, busiest district. Deep in the back alley, beyond the lights and super modern designs, there was a particular building with a very classic aesthetic. The front resembled the gate of an old English castle, with banners hanging from the faux-turret facades and a heavy wooden door. Inside, a quite significantly large dining hall could be found, bustling with young women in tasteful, period-appropriate serving wench outfits, waiting tables and serving customers. It was certainly a very unique take on the usual maid cafe aesthetic, and the young proprietor was a unique one himself.
Sitting at a lone table near the back, a young man with salt-and-pepper hair sat, poring over a selection of books stacked on the table. A few of them were on management and business, at the behest of his father, while others were technical manuals, and others still were textbooks about European history and the cultural significance of various types of dining establishments. The young man sighed, rustling his hair as he sat down a particularly drab book titled "Secrets of Running a Great Cafe", which was entirely full of cliches, outdated trends, and poor advice that was entirely irrelevant to his particular cafe. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he pushed the useless book aside and carefully grabbed the wooden mug from the corner of the table, taking a long drink of the shimmery blue beverage within.
As the young man sat down the drink, one of the servers came up to him, looking a bit flustered. "Manage...Oh, sorry, I mean, Milord Kirishima, a customer ordered the hash plate, but we've run out of the corned beef. What should we do?" She panicked a bit, before Shotaro raised his hand and spoke in a gentle tone, though his irritation still showed a bit through his voice. "Ask the customer if ground sausage hash or ground pork hash would be acceptable, and offer them the manager's discount. If those aren't acceptable, offer them a coupon for a free meal on their next visit, but only if they decline the previous offer." With those instructions, the young woman ran off, and Shotaro returned to his books, this time ignoring the manuals and texts for a simple novel.

Of all the places one would expect one Yahiko Nakamura to be, this place wasn't one of them. Still, after spending tireless days searching the Digital World for her missing brother - to no effect, he had brought her back to the Human World with him and had promised to show Aiyla around - beginning with Shibuya, of course - just to cheer her up and get her mind off the missing piece of her life. Wandering around the city gotten him here. Yahiko was as new to Shibuya as Aiyla was, though, so really, he probably had taken a wrong turn somewhere to end up in this alley. Still, the old English castle gate design had intrigued him enough to cause him to walk in and take a look, and taking a look had somehow caused him to settle down and decide to dine there for the evening.
It wasn't like he was any short of money. You did not get to be the son of the CEO of NakaCorp and not get a healthy surge of pocket money.
Aiyla, whom he had made to de-digivolve into her absolute basic form, that of a Conomon, was small enough to be safely fastened onto his chest, hidden beneath his buttoned-shut red jacket. Most people were too dumb and unobservant to notice the small bulge on his chest; even if they did, it only served to make him look broad-chested and muscular, if anything.
"T-That smells nice, Yahiko-kun!" Aiyla's muffled whisper reached his ears as he sat on the table. The boy chuckled.
"Don't worry," he whispered back. "I'll smuggle you in some food as soon as we have something."
The waitress came back however, and delivered the sad news that the hash he had ordered was not available. The boy sighed calmly. "That one actually smells like one of the edible vegetables I found in Server Wood! Soooo good!" he heard the beast inside his jacket whisper to him, another scent probably having crossed her understandably more powerful nose.
"On second thought," he turned to the oddly-dressed waitress, flipping the Menu aside on his table. It was just easier to ask them, really, then go through it all again. "Have you something purely vegetarian? Or largely vegetable with some chicken or fish in it?"

So hungry...
Yus, that's why you don't spend more time than necessary on Kanae's house teaching her how to properly put things into perspective. One would say that the girl would understand that kind of stuff by now, but... she was hopeless, more or less! Especially since... the two of them found out that there wasn't any food in the house. Like at all; how clumsy one could be? That was a good question! In the end, her friend told her she probably was going to... go to her parent's.
And left her to her own devices. Yup; that wasn't very nice, but it was probably better to eat now, then get mad and just then ask the pertinent questions. Luckily, the brunette would soon stumble into a building that had the ability to sate her gnawing hunger; sure, towers and that medieval theme wasn't something that she usually fancied, but beggars can't really be choosers. Especially in a situation like this.
Soon enough, Amy found herself entering the place, trying to get a waitress' attention in order to get seated. This was one of the places where she had to ask somebody to get seated, right? Hopefully she wasn't committing a blunder of some sort; given how alien those types of places were to her, that'd be slightly embarrassing...

Skimming through the novel, Shotaro kept his ear trained to the waitress and the customer, running scenarios in his head for the response. The response gotten, though, wasn't one he was used to. Taken a bit aback, he muttered under his breath as he closed his book. "Who goes from corned beef hash to vegetarian that quickly? This one's certainly piqued my interest." Setting the book down and gently rising from his seat, he began to walk towards the customer, but stopped sharply to take another long gulp of his beverage first.
Resuming his action, Shotaro strode over to the other young man's table, gesturing at the waitress to handle a different customer. "Apologies, but there aren't really any vegetarian options on the menu. It's mostly based on British pub fair and European home food, so there's meat in just about everything, and even if the meat's left out, all the stocks are meat-based. As for fish, there's baked salmon or baked tuna, and for chicken there's any number of dishes. My personal recommendation is either the Baked Tuna Gawain or the Cornish Hen la Fae." He spoke with a gentle air, though admittedly with very little eye contact. He did notice that the other person's proportions seemed a bit odd, but considering his own choice of attire, and the things he'd seen growing up in Akiba, he wasn't remotely going to question it.
Before Shotaro could really ask for a reply from Yahiko, he noticed another customer somewhat out of place, a foreigner just standing in the entry, looking around. It took a second for him to realize what was going on, and once he had, he turned his attention back to Yahiko. "Excuse me for just a moment please, I'll be right back for your order." Raising a hand for just a moment before stepping away, he headed over to Amelie, offering a bow in greeting. "Hello and welcome to Grand Hall. Feel free to take any available seat in the establishment, as we're a very casual dining experience."

Yahiko raised an amused eyebrow at elder boy that had showed up for the order instead, who appeared to be the senior staff around here, as he named his two recommended dishes. 'Gawain' and 'le Fae'; this guy had literally turned Britannia into a restaurant. Yahiko thought that was quite artistic and unique, really. If their food was good as their theme he might even make visiting this place a regular occurrence.
Smiling at the boy, Yahiko was about to reply on behalf of himself and his hidden Conomon when, suddenly, a tall girl walked into the establishment and the manager-boy's attention went to her.
Yahiko just stared at her, unblinking.
She was a really tall girl.
Of course, Yahiko had seen taller men in his life but... to see a female, so tall, in Japan, where the average female height was 5'2", it was...
It was flabbergasting, bewildering; heck, it was utterly mindboggling. Yahiko found himself unable to take his eyes away from her. Normally, when a guy finds it impossible to remove his eyes from a girl, it's usually because the girl is exceptionally beautiful or the boy is smitten. That was not the case in this situation. Yahiko's perpetual stare was not a result of infatuation, but one of wonder.
Because this girl was utterly tall.
Like, she was the tallest girl Yahiko had ever seen.
"... Yahiko-kun?" Conomon whispered from inside his jacket, but Yahiko found himself at a loss for words, too focused on the girl who had just walked in and towered over perhaps everyone else currently in the establishment.
She was extremely tall, after all...

Well, her problems were solved pretty much right away! A kind employee was able to get her out of her confusion. With a nod and a smile, Amelie acknowledged those words.
"Thank you. It's my first time here so I was a bit... confused, I guess." No need to be seated, huh? Well, that was a relief! The brunette made a beeline towards the nearest empty table and sat there; at least it was pretty obvious that this place was ran by waiters and waitresses, so she would just expect for somebody to get to her table.
What would she eat? Well, given this place had a decidedly English feeling, she could at least get an idea of what to expect from the menu, and what she was going to order as a result. For now, she would wait patiently until somebody tended to her table.
A measure of excitement began to brew up inside her right afterward. In all honesty, she probably hadn't been as hungry as she currently was in a long time, and the prospect of food pretty much being on its way was something comforting.
Not to say that it was slightly embarrassing how frequently her stomach was growling. But that was to be expected from someone who visited a food establishment, right?

After he finished welcoming the new customer, Sho smiled and offered a bow, before speaking simply once more. "We'll have a serer ready to take your order shortly. Menus are on the tables, simply open the small leather-bound book." And with that, he excused himself, returning to the previous customer. He strode with an elegant step, effortlessly weaving through the mess of patron and servers all hustling around and such, making his way back to Yahiko in no time.
Stopping at Yahiko's table, Sho flashed him a smile, and gave a short bow of apology. "Sorry about that. Now then, have you made your decision? Or would you like a bit longer to peruse the menu? I know it can be a bit odd for Japanese palates, it even took me a while to adapt to." His tone was a bit sing-song-y, though he appeared just a little distracted. Glancing off to the side for a second, he caught a glimpse of the large clock hanging on the wall, and clicked his tongue in frustration.
"Bloody hell. He was supposed to be here by now. Last time I hire a performer by recommendation at one of father's karaoke bars." Sho muttered angrily under his breath, trying to remain at least mostly unheard.

Through it all, Yahiko continued to stare at the girl, eyes moderately widened, a flabbergasted expression on his face. She was tall. She was so much taller than the average Japanese female; perhaps by as much as a whole foot. Heck, she was even taller than the average Japanese male, or even the average German male... and Germany had really tall males.
"Yahiko-kun...?"
Aiyla asked from within his jacket, a bit startled at how Yahiko seemed to stare at some girl for no reason. A thought - albeit an incorrect one - occurred to the little Digimon, that perhaps her tamer had become taken with the tall girl. Instantaneous jealousy welled up inside the little Conomon, and she began to shake with fury.
Yahiko felt the little Conomon tremble inside his shirt and glanced down at her. "W-What, Aiyla?" he whispered, but the Manager of the restaurant came back for the order at that moment.
"Stay quiet," Yahiko whispered to the Digimon inside his jacket, knowing quite well how weird he must look to Shotaro, talking to his own bulging chest. He instantly snapped in his direction. "Uhm... I mean, uh... fish! Yeah, fish! Gawain was always my favourite Knight of the Round, so Baked Tuna Gawain it is!"
"You were staring at that woman, you pervert!!!" Aiyla's voice was muffled due to his jacket, but Shotaro was near enough to have heard it. Maybe even the woman in question, Amelia, had heard it - Aiyla had practically screamed, after all. Yahiko sweat-dropped, and then began to sweat profusely, as he stared at Shotaro with an expression that was a cross between pure annoyance and nervous deadpan.
"..."
Yahiko had a baaad feeling about this...

Oh, the menus were there already? With a nod and a smile, Amelie began to peruse it, thinking if she'd find anything more interesting than her initial choice. There were a lot of interesting names and the plates were varied enough, but the brunette, for now, preferred something simple.
Gesturing at a waitress, the teenager would begin to place her order. "I'll have... fish and chips!" After all, every good English restaurant had fish and chips, right? It was probably the most traditional English dish ever.
Right, the rest of her order. "And a bottle of still water, if that's fine. Thank you very much!" Now, there was only one thing to wait; hopefully, the food would arrive quickly enough and she would be able to satiate her starving stomach into a more or less pleasant state.
But... it wouldn't be as easy, apparently. Somebody in a nearby table was making a ruckus and the person who was accompanying them was being pretty harsh at scolding them. It wasn't every day that she heard the word 'pervert'; maybe a jealous girlfriend or something of the like? It definitely sounded like that.
Now, who was on that table? Amy could've sworn she had looked at that way but had been too distracted to remember who was there. Deciding to take a peek, she was initially a bit... surprised to find a single person sitting alone.
Welp; how staff reacted to that event wasn't her business.

With a deep sigh, Shotaro glanced back at the young man, having heard a female voice but not being quite able to tell the source, as he was turned away when it happened. He assumed the simplest explanation was some sort of phone, perhaps a Bluetooth device. Either way, it was really none of his business, and he focused more on the boy's order than whatever squabble he was involved in. "Ah, Gawain it is, then. Excellent choice."
As he went to take the order back, he stopped for a moment, glancing at the door as a man, appearing about in his upper twenties, stepped in, panting and carrying a duffel bag. Sho passed the order off to a passing waitress, muttering to her about a discount before heading over to the new entrant. "It's about time you showed up. I can't start the performance without you, and especially not without the props. Go get set up."
Sighing again, he went to check on the female patron, noticing that most of his staff were rather intimidated by her. "Cowards and knaves. He muttered as he walked, stopping at her table and flashing a smile. "Hello again. Has someone taken your order yet? My staff seems to be a bit off today, so I'm just keeping tabs on the tables to ensure customer satisfaction."

"Aiyla, calm down, I wasn't staring at her," Yahiko tried to clarify to his angry Digimon in a hushed whisper that only she could hear. "LIAR!!!" Aiyla's shout was so loud it could've probably been heard for miles. "Aiyla, quiet! You'll blow our cover!" he hushed back, but Aiyla continued to shake angrily inside her Tamer's jacket. She could care less about covers, she wanted to go and give that lady a piece of her mind! How dare she make Yahiko stare at him?! Yahiko pre-empted her, however, and placed his hands across his chest tightly to prevent her from escaping. "Aiyla!" Yahiko whisper-shouted at her, and glanced at the woman who was Aiyla's target, watching Shotaro take her order. If his raging Digimon got out, all duck would break loose, and not to mention, Digimon would be exposed to the world (again!). "Lemme at 'er!!! Lemme at 'er!!!" Aiyla's muffled shouting could be heard from inside Yahiko's jacket, underneath his crossed arms. "Aiyla, I wasn't staring at her!"

It was a pretty lively place, wasn't it? Amelie could only begin to think how taxing managing it could get; definitely not something to be envious about, even though she found the inner workings of the small establishment to be the utmost interesting. Right. The guy who had kindly told how that she could pick any seat was back, and seemed like he'd be the one to pick her order. Had anyone taken her order yet? Guess they hadn't, but that was fine! He seemed like a pretty pleasant person, honestly. "Oh, well. I'll have..."What the brunette didn't expect, however, was the scream not that far from where she currently was. Given that they were coming from more or less the same direction that the previous pervert!!!! remarks, she gazed back at the same person than before, only to find him struggling against... his own chest? For her, what was happened was a bit obvious, but that didn't make it any... less alarming for the everyday patron, not to say that the staff would probably want to have some words with him. Disruptive behavior and that stuff; probably something she wouldn't want to deal with if she worked here. But that wasn't her problem. In case the person who had decided to take her order was still there, Amy would shake her head, trying to clear her mind from that shout. "Oh, right, sorry! My order." She began to repeat her order again; hopefully this time no more unfortunate events will happen? She could only hope.
I decided to exit the thread on grounds of a very prolonged inactive period. Hope there are no hard feelings over this. Luckily, they didn't. Amelie was able to enjoy her meal in peace, and while the initial conflict had been mildly puzzling and somewhat strange, things have managed to calm down just enough for her to dine peacefully. Now sated, she proceeded to wave goodbye to her new acquaintance and exited the place in silence. Shibuya's night was somewhat cool and calm, but that only made it all the more enjoyable. And now that she wasn't upset with Kanae anymore, her mind just drifted away as her two feet began to unconsciously carry her back home. It had been a fun experience, if anything!
