"Tawna! Tawna? Tawna!"
These were the the calls of a girl calling out desperately out into the wide-expanse of the dawning sunset of the Network Plains, a dot among an ocean of flat plateau and grass. With little more but her Digivice's map function on (pinging a dot to her) and it's analog jammer function helping to keep her presence masked from perhaps would-be threats... Haru was a young woman with a mission... and that was to find her best friend.
It has been three human days since she left her partner to their own devices in the Digital World... a whole three weeks here. While she had been patient towards giving the feline Digimon time to do what they needed to do, she refused to wait any longer... She needed to see her partner again. Make sure they were alright.
She had so many things she needed to talk to them about.
Gazing occasionally as she walked, Haru finally noticed something positive for a change... in the past hour or so she had been walking, the dot representing her partner was only on the rim of the map... but now it was actually inside the map, meaning she was close. With no time to dilly-dally, the black-haired girl began to rush towards the direction of the dot... several minutes later spotting something off in the distance.
It was a makeshift camp set by a large stone boulder, and sure enough sitting on two small stones... she saw the familiar sight of two Meicoomon, one seemingly noticing her... and with a look of shock on their face.
"H-Haru?!" they exclaimed out in a familiar voice, immediately running up to Haru on all-fours as they jumped into the girl's arms, a few tears in both parties' eyes. "I-I missed you so much Haru... you don't know how happy I am to see you..." Tawna softly spoke, nuzzling their face within Haru's body, the girl holding the Meicoomon in her arms and nuzzling them back.
"... Ditto you dork. You made me worried sick." the girl softly spoke, smiling as she caressed her partner, briefly wiping some of the water that had formed on her face.
As the pair had their little reunion, Haru noticed the second Meicoomon approach... The same one she had left in Tawna's care and that had caused the ruckus back in the Village of Beginnings. For Haru, it wasn't exactly a fun reunion, but she refused to act hostile to them... After all, wasn't that what Tawna had been working on trying to do this entire time...? Help rehabilitate them? Needless to say, she tried to put on least her best smile as they soon began to speak. "I remember you... Your the human that Tawna is friends with, right?" they cautiously asked, glancing at Tawna as if waiting for an approval.
The Meicoomon in Haru's arms gently nodded at her counterpart, a demure smile on their face. "She is a friend... You can trust her."

As the sunset began to fall on the plains the calm silence of the night would make for a peaceful and starry evening.
Or at least it would have been, had it not been for the small beeping sound that the human might hear on her digivice, that started quiet, but slowly grew into an almost deafening alarm, not unlike a gentle rain slowly becoming into a storm. Even if she didn’t pay attention to the sound, it would be hard to ignore the large amount of dots appearing on one edge of the screen, and were now slowly approaching the three dots representing Haru and the two cats, and more alarmingly, how they seemed to be circling their position.
If they were to stay there, the beeping would soon be drowned out by a louder, heavier sound. This sound of course, was the sound of movement. Steps. Claps. Fluttering wings. Shouts. The sound of collective anger and outrage.
The sound of an angry, outraged mob of digimon.
There many of them, all of them of varying sizes and levels, though the large majority were Rookies, with a couple Champions and one or two Ultimates even.
They had all gathered rather recently, after hearing some rather dark and devastating news from the Village of Begginings. News about a tragic incident that had taken the life of an innocent kid, and how the responsible ones were not only still out there, but allowed to walk away with no repercussions. The outrage, anger, and sheer pain of the news had struck a sensitive chord with enough digimon, and after a couple days of planning, a group of them had reached an agreement to get together, and find the one responsible for this.
Some did it looking for justice, others looking for revenge, a couple of them because there was nothing better to do, and perhaps one or two had been dragged into this because of a friend, but all of them were moved by the same, singular purpose:
Giving a child murderer their just punishment.
Luckily for the mob, it wasn’t hard to find the location of the fugitive; their camp wasn’t particularly well hidden, and had been easily located by the few members of the crowd that were capable of flight.
If the human and two meicoomons somehow hadn’t noticed yet, it wouldn’t take long for the screams and angry threats to be audible far above the sound of the crowd.
“Murderer!” A Tentomon bellowed, nothing pure hatred in his voice.
“Baby killer!” A Babamon would add, going as far as picking a rock from the ground and chucking it at the group.
This and many other manner of insults and “small” aggressions happened as the mob slowly but surely approached the camp site. What were they planning to do once they got there? Nobody was quite sure, but judging by the way some of the more angrier members seemed to be rallying the others whilst brandishing rocks and sticks they had picked up on their way there, it was probably not going to be pretty.
At this rate, it wouldn’t take long for the crowd to get out of control…

A disturbance had been registered. It had taken several days for the news to reach him - several days longer than it should have been, but, there was no helping that. While Shakamon was capable of many things, changing the course of things that occurred in the past was not one of them. But, news of this had greatly disturbed him. A crime had been committed - in what was probably one of the most sacred places of the digital world. The place where most digimon would expect to find themselves when they were born. A place where they could hatch from their eggs, be nurtured and protected as babies until they could be ready to face the trials of the world. While of course not all digimon were born here - some began their lives in Fragment Village in the Dark Area and face horrifying trials - only the lucky would survive there. And those, like him, would begin their lives in the Fields of Avalon, to begin their lives of enlightenment and follow the path of righteousness. Shakamon could hardly believe his ears when he had heard the news. The sanctity of the Village of Beginnings had been violated by the murder and cannibalization of an innocent baby digimon. And many other ears heard this news. Understandably, this was an outrage that spread quickly through the digital world. Why would it not be? Most digimon began their lives as Nyaromon had - hatched in the verdant fields of the village, protected by Cherrymon, the Swanmon nurses, and the Elecmon carers. And they had grown and flourished in peace. Not this time though. The Nyaromon had been ruthlessly murdered and consumed as though the Village of Beginnings was nothing but a bleak hellscape in the Dark Area. And the justice that had been summoned had been impeded. So many versions of this tale had reached Shakamon that he could no longer remain idle. He understood its significance in the history of the digital world. He understood how it caught the imagination of most digimon in existence. He also understood why this had to be conducted with proper diligence and fairness, else the chaos could spread like wildfire. Furthermore, evidence to back it had gradually piled up. A Nyaromon was missing from the Village of Beginnings, last seen before two Meicoomon had visited there. A Swanmon had made a distress signal. A Magnamon had been despatched. It became too much to ignore. And thus, immediately as this happened, Shakamon descended from the skies above the scene, his sixteen orbs floating around him. "Cease at once" he commanded, and used the immense power at his disposal to pacify the hostility of the mob. While Shakamon had little if anything in the ways of destructive attacks, the Super Mega level did have the means to put a seal on others. However, the significance of this crime demanded the scales of justice to be applied. Many other digimon would have used a hammer instead, but Shakamon was not "other digimon". "A grievous injustice has occurred at the Village of Beginnings" Shakamon declared to all and sundry. "That so much I understand. To one innocent digimon, it became their Village of Ending. This is a crime that cannot be ignored. And so, we shall conduct a trial to learn the truth of things - and enact justice".He then turned his masked face to the feline digimon, pointing his finger at them. "Meicoomon. You stand accused of murdering an innocent digimon that was under the protection of the Village of Beginnings, and consuming their data. You will therefore stand trial and be judged for this crime immediately".Shakamon briefly acknowledged Haru and Tawna with a glance. If the stories were true, Tawna had stood in the way of the course of justice in the aftermath, but she had not made the crime here. Shakamon then spoke again. "This shall be a fair trial, with the accused permitted a defence" he said. "I will preside over this trial as an impartial judge". He then turned his gaze to the angry mob of digimon that had gathered. "Which of you will stand as prosecutor to the accused?".

The reunion for a bit was a warm and compassionate moment, even with the third party in the form of Meicoomon. Haru while was not still comfortable with their presence entirely, but she was willing to ignore her own doubts on the creature for the sake of the reunion. "... Hey, I... I know we didn't get a chance to properly introduce eachother..." she softly spoke as she bent down to let Tawna down, looking into the Meicoomon's emapathetic eyes... it clear to her that they were very different from the cheerful, unintentionally malicious creature she had met prior.
However, the moment was soon ruined as Haru noticed her D-Arc began buzzing... the sounds of multiple angry Digimon able to be heard in the distance and slowly but surely surrounding them. The girl's pupils shrunk to pricks as the second Meicoomon in a panic hid behind her legs, while her partner took on a defensive stance as their fur bristled... Cruel, harsh words were thrown at them as the mob circled around the camp, Haru backing up into the rock.
Sh-Shit! Why?! She had thought they were done with this... This was supposed to be their chance to all make up from this dreadful conflict, but now she was not so sure. For a moment, the girl feared for both her life and that of the two Champion levels.
"Wh-Why?!" the Meicoomon cowering behind her leg exclaimed, shivering in fear at the sight of so many Digimon, all with hostile intent... directed at her. She knew what she had done, and now knew how awful a deed it was... but she had thought that it was over, that she could try to move on now... Was that not what Tawna said could happen?
"Damn it... why here? Why now..." Tawna growled to herself, a look of genuine fear on her face. She... she knew people would be angry at her or Meicoomon, but at the same time feared what so many Digimon could do to them. What... What if they wanted to deny them from being able to be reborn as well? She had spent the past three weeks trying to help Meicoomon... she wanted to believe that her efforts weren't going to be wasted, but with so many Digimon here... there was no way even she could fend them all off.
... However, solace came in perhaps one of the most unexpected forms. In a single radiant emergence against the dawning sky, a gold-wreathed Digimon emerged from the heavens above them all, and immediately all were silenced at their commanding words.
On one hand, Haru was in a strange way... unfearful of the angelic being that had appeared. Despite their foreboding visage, there was a gentle, but stern serenity to them. On one hand, she felt safer knowing they would right now not be immediately destroyed by the angry mob... but at the same time, she knew now they were not in the clear. Everyone here knew what Meicoomon had done, and one way or another... something horrid was going to happen.
Tawna gazed at Shakamon above, for a moment resting one of her tendrils on Meicoomon in an attempt to comfort them... defiantly looking up to the Super Mega level.
This was not how it was going to end... She refused to allow this to happen.

As the crowd slowly got closer and closer, the insults and threats seemed to grow in intensity, digimon banging sticks and stones together, screams getting louder and louder. It was almost as if they were slowly regressing into an almost primal state of pure anger. Yet, just as they were about to jump in for the kill, the whole area seemed to be bathed by holy light, the pure influence and comanting presence of some force far greater than that of the whole mob put together. The pure light reached to them, calming, soothing, gently touching their very cores. The shouting stopped, the insults ceased, and the mob stood completely still, as if every bit of aggression had been cleansed from within them. By now, the commanding tone coming from the Shakamon, the cause of said light, seemed almost redundant. As the sage came to the scene however single digimon looked up, eyes widened in awe and reverence. Was the commotion so great so as to cause such a being to come and serve as a mediator, or rather judge? Well, at the very least he seemed to be after the same thing as the group. Justice. There were some quiet whispers of annoyance among some of the members when it was decided it would be a “fair trial”, but they were quickly silenced as the golden sage asked for someone to stand as the prosecutor. Many of the digimon glanced at each other, as if looking for a suitable candidate. Some of them even quietly retreated to the back of the group, trying hard not to be noticed. It seemed as if nobody had the courage to stand in there to try and prove to Shakamon why the cat deserved punishment. “I’ll do it.” A voice finally rose from the crowd, causing every member of the crowd to turn and glance up at the one brave enough to stand forward. The tall monk like digimon made her way to the front of the crowd, an unwavering, stern look off defiance in her face. She had been one of the few that had joined without an openly vengeful attitude in mind, but that didn’t mean she didn’t want justice to be served. At the end of the day, the Meicoomon had ended a life. A child’s one at that. Regardless of intention or possible regret, that was still something simply unforgivable for her. “I shall stand in as the prosecutor.” The Taomon declared firmly, bowing respectfully to the Shakamon. She Then turned to face both cats and the human accompanying them. Frankly, she cared not for the human too much. She was as likely to be an accomplice to being someone in the wrong place at the wrong time. But in the end, this was a trial for the Meicoomon’s crime. “Will any of you stand as the defendant for the accused Meicoomon?”

Shakamon noted that the second Meicoomon seemed to be protective of the culprit. He saw no reason to see that as a threat however. He had no intentions of bringing unjust harm to the world below, but to simply hold the scales of justice so that life can continue in peace.
His question for a prosecutor understandably resulted in silence for a time being. As was his intention. While the prospect of swift retribution was something that many digimon here were delighted to do, few volunteered the task of arguing their right to. Eventually, a Taomon rose to volunteer for the job. Shakamon acknowledged her with a nod. It made sense that a digimon skilled in the magical arts would volunteer their voice in such a serious matter.
Taomon then asked if others would stand for the defense. This, Shakamon cleared his throat at. "Thank you for that, Taomon, but I believe it is within my purview to ask that" he said, remining those that he would be the judge here.
"Nonetheless, I take it that you will take the part of Meicoomon's defense?" he asked Haru and Tawna. That seemed to be what was going on here. If they confirmed, Shakamon would then turn to Meicoomon and ask in a very serious voice, repeating some things, but it was clear that he was now abiding by some protocol.
"Meicoomon. You are charged with violating the sanctity of the Village of Beginnings, and of first degree murder/absorption of an in-training Nyaromon. How do you plead? Guilty or not guilty?"
This was the question that needed to be answered first before any of this could proceed.

Haru flinched slightly as sure enough, Shakamon turned their attention towards them now... This was her and Tawna's only chance to fight for Meicoomon's freedom, and if they backed out now... well, she was sure that Meicoomon would died. The girl took a deep breath as she flipped her goggles over her eyes... exhaling as she took the goggles off, fighting back a feeling of despair. "We... We will defend her." Haru spoke, deep down knowing the risks of this. They would surely be demonized for that alone, but Haru felt playing devil's advocate here was a must. She had doubts Tawna would ever forgive her if she had refused the call... and despite the crime, she couldn't just let the cat die... She gazed over at the crowd and their choice of prosecutor, trying her best to not flinch at the stern glare of Taomon.
She had to be brave... for Meicoomon's sake.
As Shakamon soon enough spoke to the accused, Meicoomon seemed to visibly be unsure what to say, pausing for several seconds as their eyes seemed to dart around in a panic. "G-Guilty? Not guilty... Guilty?" they softly spoke, for a moment clutching their head as they shivered... visibly looking like they were in pain. "No... No..."
"She pleads not guilty!" the more experienced Meicoomon immediately refuted, not willing to let this blow over without a chance at perhaps at least convincing the powerful Digimon that this was not a lost cause. Tawna grasped the paw of Meicoomon, giving them a reassuring nod at them before turning to face their civic foes. "We are ready to continue your honor."
She knew what she saw as just. Perhaps it wasn't what others tended to see justice as, but she refused to allow them to change her own beliefs without significant resistance.

Shakamon turned to Haru as she spoke, volunteering for the defense. "Very well. That is your right, you will not suffer for it" he promised. Even if defending the Meicoomon would be an unpopular thing to do with the current crowd, well, Shakamon would never condemn an individual for defending a suspect at a trial.
Then, in response to the plea, Meicoomon pleaded not guilty. Shakamon made a deep breath through his nose, that was something of a bold decision there. Pleading not guilty to a case like this, well, if it was found she had committed the crime, that would limit his options for granting mercy. Not even acknowledging wrongdoing from the start would do that. In response to this, many of the onlooking digimon snarled their disapproval, but a warning signal from Shakamon's hand silenced them.
"Very well then, the plea of not guilty has been recorded" Shakamon said. "Without further ado, I will call the first witness. Swanmon, please make yourself known to the court".
Even if it wasn't a courtroom in the traditional sense, the positions were assumed as they would have in a normal room. And so, the first witness, Swanmon, waddled up to the front, turning to face those other than Shakamon.
"Swanmon, you are a carer at the village of beginnings and was present at the day in question, correct?" Shakamon asked. Swanmon affirmed this with a nervous nod. "Please tell us what happened that day".
"Well... it was an ordinary day. I remember a human and her partner were visiting, these two in fact" she indicated Haru and Tawna. "They were visiting the babies, as humans often do, and nothing seemed off, so I let them be to tend to them".
"I see... you returned later, yes?" Shakamon asked.
"Yes, I did" Swanmon said, looking at the defendant Meicoomon. "And when I did, I saw that they were joined by that digimon, and... the human seemed to be very distressed, telling me that there was a problem and that I needed to get the babies to safety. She... seemed to be restraining the Meicoomon somehow".
"What did you do in response to this?" Shakamon prodded further.
"Well, I did what I was told to - I summoned help to the village" Swanmon replied. "And following that, this Meicoomon seemed to be very distressed too, she seemed to be fighting with the human and her partner. It was all rather fast, I was busy with the other Swanmon evacuating other babies from the area".
When prompted to continue, Swanmon grew very melancholy. "I offered to evacuate the human and her partner from the vicinity, but they refused. And when the guardian Magnamon appeared, they defended this Meicoomon, took responsibility for her".
"I see. And later, after they departed, what did you find?" Shakamon asked.
"We found... that a Nyaromon was missing". Swanmon said, tears dripping from her face. "Of course if I knew what had happened I would have never..." she seemed to be unable to continue. Shakamon gave a nod, indicating that she could have a break from her testimony. When she regained her composure, he would turn to Taomon, then Haru.
"You may both ask questions to the witness now" he said.

It hurt Haru internally to hear the first witness called forth by Shakamon... The very Swanmon they met back at the Village of Beginnings, their testimony feeling like needles in her soul, perhaps since she realized now that... they didn't exactly have had the full picture when they had offered to escort her out of the village. Would she and Magnamon have both been willing to allow the Meicoomon to leave if they had known... the truth?
There were not real questions Haru was willing to question... All she could offer was an apology... even if it was not technically necessary. "... I'm sorry... It was a miscommunication on my part... and I was not thinking straight. We saw it happen, but were too late to stop her, all we could do was try to make sure she didn't hurt anyone else." the girl sadly spoke, her heart sinking slightly. The fact that was all she COULD say... it was miserable.
The Meicoomon by Tawna's side's vision to waver slightly, their breathing becoming slow as they listened to the Swanmon... unpleasant feelings unfamiliar to her welling up in her. A combination of guilt...? Realizing that the Swanmon she had almost attacked wasn't just a faceless individual...? Realizing the impact her actions had caused? All they knew was these feelings were awful and she wanted them to stop.
Tawna's tendrils wrapped slightly around the wild Meicoomon in an attempt to comfort them, she gazing back at Swanmon with a solemn look on her face. "... Has... this incident happened before? With... others of my kind?" she asked the avian Digimon, trying her best to remain calm. Swanmon was a victim... but the perpetrator didn't understand the full extent of their actions at the time.
... Was that just an individual case-by-case basis, or was that instinct for all Meicoomon? The older Meicoomon's face seemed to grimace... realizing that she was very much guilty loading innocent Digimon as well in the past... but she changed. She was a better person now. All she wanted was to make sure another of her kin had the chance...

Shakamon listened as Haru spoke her apology to the Swanmon. In his eyes, this proved that the crime had been committed. Even though the plead of Not Guilty had been registered, that the apology had been spoken so honestly made him feel that mercy would be the better option here. He was at least thankful that Haru did not complicate things by trying to lie.
"I see, so you bear witness to Meicoomon killing and absorbing the Nyaromon, is that correct?" Shakamon asked Haru, not in an accusatory voice, just in the tone of one who wanted to know the truth.
Then, Tawna asked a question of the Swanmon, asked if this had happened with others of her kind. "Well... we have had some incidents of certain species of digimon acting with aggression before..." she said. Not only the usual suspects like Virus attributes, but Datas and Vaccines too, where they could not shed their primal instincts to destroy and consume.
"But there have been good Meicoomon too, in fact, the last one I bade farewell to in the village was one of the sweetest digimon I've ever seen" the Swanmon continued.
"Very well. Is there any further questions for the witness?" Shakamon asked Haru, Tawna and Taomon. If not, the next part of the trial would proceed - the calling of the next witness. Only this would be a witness that Shakamon had asked personally. It would be a risk, yes, and most unorthodox - for a judge to call witnesses, but, he felt that if justice was to truly be served, then this digimon would have to be a part of this. For this case, and all similar cases like this to come.

Haru's gut twisted slightly at Shakamon's question, even if it didn't sound hostile. Maybe it was partly since she couldn't exactly label anyone being outright in the wrong here... Like, honestly she couldn't blame any of the people here for being angry... No matter how one looked at things, a Nyaromon died... and people just wanted to try and bring justice to this mess. But condemning the Meicoomon to death...? It felt wrong, especially with how much Tawna fought to try save them... perhaps change them as well. "... Yessir. We were there." she spoke, a tad bit of hesitance in her voice, though she could at least tell Shakamon was not trying to be the enemy here.
Tawna actually seemed mildly-relieved to hear from Swanmon that perhaps not every one of her kind was doomed to be destructive... It had been of great concern for her recently, especially with actually directly dealing with the Meicoomon. They... they just seemed misguided, in a way Tawna could relate. With little else to guide them, they only had hunger and the lust for power to lead them, though she believed wholeheartedly now that her (of course not by blood) sister understood the ramifications for such a lifestyle. They weren't evil, but they needed to learn there was more to this world than cat eat cat... just like Haru taught her. Tawna silently nodded with her tamer's answer to they witnessing the event, patting Meicoomon on the back (whom still seemed to having trouble adjusting to facing the facts).
"I... The defense is done for now." Haru spoke to Shakamon, glancing at Taomon a distance away... admittingly a bit tense. They were certainly quiet... though even if they were trying to do the right thing in their eyes as well, she couldn't allow for them or the mob mentality to convince Shakamon that mercy isn't an option. She wholeheartedly believed everyone could be good people if they just tried... after all, if what she and Mikemon theorized was true, Tawna was not a good person once.

Shakamon acknowledged the admission with another nod. Very well. That would at least spare the next witnesses to the crime. If the trial continued as normal then an Elecmon and a DemiVeemon would approach to give evidence, and he thought it was better this way to spare them from the cross examination that would occur in a fair trial.
Haru rested her defence, and Taomon did not approach the witness to ask questions, so that was that for now. "Swanmon, thank you, you may leave the witness stand" Shakamon said, and the caretaker digimon took her leave.
Shakamon then turned to the court, giving a heavy sigh. "So we have the truth as it stands now" he began. "It is true, a digimon entered the Village of Beginnings and preyed upon a baby digimon, seemingly ending her life. However. I do not believe justice would be served by the execution of the accused. Retribution it might be, but, I believe we can achieve something greater from this trial - something that we digimon can look toward as a precedent. I call the next witness - Doctor Biomon".
Suddenly, with a flash of light, a new digimon appeared in the makeshift court. A near totally mechanical digimon colored green and yellow approached through the onlookers, many of them murmuring with surprise about both her appearance and Shakamon's speech. Biomon approached the stand, facing the judge with a neutral expression.
"Now then, Doctor Biomon, I have called you to the stand in order to explain to the court what your findings are, before we pass sentence". He let that hang in the air for the moment, given that it was beyond doubt that the Meicoomon was guilty. However, it was also clear that Shakamon did not seek her execution. "Can you please explain to the best of your knowledge, what absorbtion involves?"
"Of course, your honour" Biomon replied. "Digimon absorbing the data of other digimon has been an instinct we have had since the very beginning of the digital world. Yes, in modern society we shun it, especially when it is done to such weak and vulnerable digimon as those that dwell in the Village of Beginnings, but, with some digimon, that instinct is harder to shake off than others. It involves consuming the data of the fallen digimon and assimilating it with their own, thus effectively resulting in the assumed death of the absorbed".
"You say 'assumed'" Shakamon said. "Please explain what you mean?"
"I say 'assumed' because that is simply because in earlier times, it was assumed that there was no means to retrieve the data of the absorbed digimon" Biomon continued. "However, that may not be the case as it stands today. As I have been conducting experiments into the nature of this unfortunate phenomenon, in the Dark Area".
The audience of the court by now had caught on to the significance of what was going on here, and were silent as they heard the testimony of this doctor witness.
"Please tell us what these experiments involve" Shakamon instructed patiently.
"Well, my hypothesis was that a digimon does not truly die when they are absorbed" Biomon began. "However, with both the traditional increase in power and the modern taboo, it was difficult to come across means of testing this. Of course, in the dark area, it was much more common to come across digimon that absorbed others, and so, I boded my time and searched for test subjects that had recently absorbed the data of others. I encountered at least three dozen over the course of my research".
"And what did you find from your research?"
"I found that, while remote, it is possible to separate the data of an absorbed digimon with that of its predator" Biomon said. There was an audible gasp from the court audience at this news. Biomon continued. "I found that there has to be three key factors that result in a successful operation. The first, is that the data between victim and predator has to be different enough to be separated. The second, that the procedure is done as soon as possible after the initial absorption has taken place. And the third... is that the predator is voluntarily willing to part with the data of the victim".
"I see... and how many successful... 'extractions' have you made in your experiments so far, Doctor?" Shakamon asked curiously.
"Out of 36 attempts, I have successfully separated and revived 10 digimon that have been absorbed" Biomon replied. "Of these, 7 predators have also survived, and in those 7 cases, both predator and victim recovered to perfect health".
It seemed to Shakamon that this may be the correct means of going about this. It was also clear that this would be his recommended ruling in this case - that the data extraction would be attempted. However, it would be perfectly fair for further questions to be asked.
"You may now ask questions of the witness" Shakamon instructed the prosecution and defense.

The arrival of the next witness was... unexpected to say the least, though Haru did recognize the Digimon as a Biomon. A doctor...? Odd, they weren't even at the village (at least she didn't think), though Shakamon seemed hopeful of them... And well, she could see why. Was it truly possible for the Nyaromon to be separated from Meicoomon...? On one hand, she was hesitant considering the doctor mentioning what seemed to be relatively low odds even with proper circumstances, but the fact there was a chance did make Haru wish that there was a chance that this would all end somewhat happily.
Tawna on the otherhand was more cautious about the doctor's words... perhaps just because she was naturally on the pessimistic side of things. She wasn't going to accuse Biomon of being a quack, but she worried that it may spark a dangerous precedent amongst those here that this is the only solution, one that Tawna worried could prove painful... or worse, fatal. Only one of the three circumstances needed for such a procedure was viable, and it unfortunately was also the easiest one to work with. She glanced over to Meicoomon, who while for a moment seemed hopeful... their expression seemed to changed to a pained look of guilt. "... I hurt more people." they seemed to quietly mumble, not to anyone in particular... though Tawna was able to hear it, the older Meicoomon only able to give a brief sigh as she turned her attention to the witness.
"The incident was about two and a half weeks ago OR two and half days human time. I personally care for the defense here by myself during this time, away from my tamer. Doctor, is that enough time for this procedure to be remotely possible?" she ended up stating while throwing in the question, there not enough information right now for a clear-cut answer yet on what Meicoomon's fate should be. "... Are we even sure the prey data can even be differentiated...? I believe us Meicoomon have a tendency to have Nyaromon as In-Training levels, and well... It might be difficult to figure out what actually belongs where, and what doesn't."
While Haru wanted to believe there was a chance that the procedure was possible, Tawna's own points caused the girl to pause... a worry born in the back of her head. What if those were enough to make the procedure impossible? It already sounded like it wasn't a gurantee even with the right setup, and... the way Biomon worded things made it sound like there was a risk that the predator could die in the procedure. "I hope that this doesn't sound rude, but I admit that while the concept of the procedure is absolutely amazing that its even possible... I'm just worried about the success rate and chance of mortality. I... I don't want to risk people dying." she politely spoke, voicing her own concerns for the procedure.
Even if Meicoomon was a killer, it didn't mean they were evil... They didn't deserve death if they could all avoid it.

Biomon considered the questions given to her. So, it seemed two and a half weeks had passed. That was a lengthy amount of time, yes, but the longest successful case she had encountered had been three weeks. That was within the parameters of success.
"From the results of my research so far..." she began in response. "It seems the main factor of success or failure is the willingness of the predator to give up the data. The seven successful cases I encountered all had expressed repentance for the deed they had done, and were willing to atone in full, surrendering all of the data without resistance. Yes, it had weakened them, in some cases by a lot, reducing them to their In-Training level. But, in all seven cases, they had survived, and the digimon they had absorbed had also survived. Those that refused to give up the data were all destroyed in the procedure. Sadly, in those cases, there was only a 50 percent survival rate in the victim digimon, as both they and their predator were destroyed".
"I see..." Shakamon said. "So what you're saying, this procedure has a high percent survival rate if the absorber is willing to atone for what they did and voluntarily give up the data?".
"That is what I'm saying, yes" Biomon replied. "I haven't yet documented the long term effects of this, but, extraction with survival on both parts is possible. I will also share that the procedure can be painful. I can reduce it, but not remove it entirely".
"I see. And your first successful extraction, how long ago was it?"
"Two years digital world time" Biomon responded. "I am still in acquaintance with both the predator and the victim. They are both healthy, in fact, the predator has turned her ways and is doing her best to raise the victim as her own child. He has since advanced to the Rookie level, and she has recovered to the Champion level".
They then listened to Tawna's objection. To this, Shakamon replied. "It seems from Dr. Biomon's evidence that as long as Meicoomon is willing to voluntarily part with the data, this will maximise her chances of survival" he said. "If she is not, then, I'm afraid the conclusions that the court will come to will be... unfortunate". Indeed, it was obvious in his eyes. If she truly regretted what she did and was willing to atone for her crime, then she would survive. If not, then the likely result would be her death.
"It seems that the ultimate choice in this matter goes down to the defendant" Shakamon concluded. "So, Meicoomon, do you seek to atone for the crime you committed?".
If so, two innocent lives could be saved today. If not, well, that was a reality of how savage the digital world could be.

Tawna had mixed feelings with the overall nature of Biomon's report of this miracle treatment. On one hand, there seemed to be more hope than she originally anticipated that perhaps the procedure wasn't a complete quack job... but the risks at hand were still too high for her to accept as an option. Everything here she had done up to this point... she refused to allow it to go to waste. "Your honor, the past two weeks have involved me caring for and examining Meicoomon. I may be biased as she is the same species as me, but back there in the village... I should have simply left her to her fate, but I couldn't... Not when I was able to see so much of myself in them." the older Meicoomon softly spoke as she stared off to Shakamon, a hint of strong emotion in their green eyes as they gazed at the golden-donning Digimon and then to Biomon. "... Meicoomon here is one of those Digimon whose only guidance was instinct, not what was right or wrong. The look in her eye back at the village... It was the look of someone who genuinely had no idea that what they were doing was wrong... and why would they? Their body was telling them that this was okay, so why stop?" they continued to speak, for a moment a hint of agitation growing in their voice... yet undirected towards anyone but herself.
Haru for a moment faltered, realizing partially some of her partner's words and what they meant... Was that really why they intervened for Meicoomon's sake? Then... that confirmed Mikemon's theory that Tawna has killed in the past... they were just like Meicoomon here, at least once. The girl for a moment swallowed a bit of saliva down her throat, her breathing going slow as she witnessed Tawna's emotions seem to come out as they desperately pleaded for Meicoomon's life. "... Tawna?" they softly asked, though to no avail... Tawna had more to say still.
Tawna gritted their teeth, for a moment seemingly struggling as to find what to say... She was having to self-reflect the truth about herself to find more to say. She knew why she had to protect Meicoomon, but putting it to words for others without outright saying that she was once a killer was far trickier than she hoped. "... I will not hide that I know exactly the feelings of what Meicoomon here has experienced. The feeling of an empty hunger that you only know one way to satiate. I fight those urges every waking moment, but because I now have dear friends to protect. Back at the village, I saw a murderer... but also a sister. A sister trapped in a tiny, enclosed box of viewpoints that they had not known they even were trapped in. How could I have just left them when I was the same way once." they softly spoke, for a moment hesitating with those last few sentences before continuing. "... What I'm getting at is, Meicoomon isn't ready... and that it may be too late for such. Even if she tells herself that she wants to do this, there is no gurantee her body will oblige. If we do this now, I'm willing to bet my life that she will most certainly die... and the odds of Nyaromon even coming out alive are heads or tails. I cannot allow such reckless gambling of lives like this. Until we can gurantee a hundred percent chance of survival for both, I refuse to allow this."
It was difficult for Haru to keep up with everything Tawna was saying, but through all that emotion and desperate pleading as to why the operation shouldn't happen... she understood them. She didn't know how to put it... but she saw that Tawna wasn't just doing this from the good of their heart, but because they had to... like as if they didn't, it would have been like they had failed as a person. "... I-I think what Tawna's trying to say is that its like alcoholics or smokers trying to kick the habit. It isn't something that can just be stopped easily on their own, and it sometimes takes years to quit entirely... and often times its not something that can be done alone." she somewhat timidly added on, glancing at the frightened Meicoomon cowering by Tawna (who was still in the process of calming down). "M-maybe though if future breakthroughs happen for this procedure, there could still be a chance that Nyaromon could be saved? I think everyone here wants for this to end happily, but... Honestly, I trust my partner's instincts and I think she is the only one of us who knows more about Meicoomon as a person."
While having been silent for the majority of the past few conversations, Meicoomon seemed to finally gather the courage to speak up... even though it was clear that from the way the defendant was shivering that they were terrified to even talk. "... I-I want to be good... I want to be good like T-Tawna. I-I don't to be a monster... I don't want to be a monster..."
