Ah, the calm before the storm. After the craziness of the D-Reaper in the Dark Area, but before the ensuing search in the Northern Prominence, Whitewater seemed to be in a state of peaceful unease. Whispers were shared between Digimon, rumors of what had happened, and what was going to happen next. What if the damage spread beyond the Dark Area? What if it hadn't happened at all, and this was just a ruse to cover something bigger?
In the tense state of the city, Dr. Mikemon reasonably didn't find too much of a reason to leave the office. Besides, with his recent time spend with the Field Club, the cat had fallen just a bit behind on paperwork, appointments, and busy-work. Thus, the cat was left in his own office, a pen scraping away at paper after paper, analyzing other doctors' questions and working through the work for his own patients.
"Lil' should be good to go by this time next week... still don't know what to do with Biyo though. Sheesh." Shaking his head, taking a long drink of coffee, the Mikemon gave a hard tap to the side of his head. Right, keep focused, power through this: there was only about an hour or so of this left!
Of course, that meant that the doctor was in - and the Stingmon, as ever, sat at the front desk, lazily reading through the day's paper. Today, Dr. Mikemon hadn't had any particular patients expected to come in, but there were always a few he'd make time for. Little did he know, one of those was going to finally come around, today...
... Though, perhaps not in the state he expected.

Surely, it was acceptable to take a bit of a break from the human world, right? Considering how time worked between the two places, Maia didn't see any harm in staying in the Digital World for a little while. At least, until she could get her head straightened out a bit! While not quite ready to take a trip into Terminus, the teen figured that Whitewater was a decent place for getting acclimated to dealing with the potential of running into people that she should know!
And, Kuu knew the best place to start. "We gonna see Doctor Catmon?" After all! They were in Whitewater! Mikemon was in Whitewater!
"Um," his tamer drew out her hum, slowing her pace through the city. Now, she didn't want to sound dumb, but... "Who?"
"Doctor Catmon," the fox responded, dragging the words out for emphasis. "Y'know? He was in our house. Did test things on me. Gave you a card because you wanted to learn stuff from him. That guy."
"Oh."
"You're not good at pretending you remember stuff."
Maybe Maia needed to learn to be a better liar. A thespian, she was not! Moving out of the way of any foot traffic, the teen began to shuffle through her bag. "I kind of remember it?" That didn't sound too promising! After a moment of searching, the teen pulled a card out from between a notebook and a sketchpad, giving it a quizzical stare. And, then spinning it over, the piece made far more sense! After all, the address was decipherable! "This place?"
Peering down from his tamer's shoulder, the Kudamon gave a rapid nod. "Yeah! That's it! Doctor Catmon! Looks like his office is just over there, too!" Kuu directed with his nose, where the building could actually be seen from where the two stood. "You should prob'ly at least let him know you haven't forgotten about-- oh. Right." Maia totally had forgotten about their conversation! Oops! If a Kudamon could look embarrassed about their slip-up, he would right now! "Anyway. Good place to start! He'll teach you Digimon stuff and, uh, maybe more stuff! Or something."
Well, that didn't sound too informative. But, if Maia was going to try to work on being capable of social settings, it was probably a good place to start!
Reaching the door, the teen opened the door. While she couldn't necessarily remember Mikemon, the Stingmon behind the desk seemed familiar. Someone (Mikemon) had mentioned this secretary before! "Uh, hello," the girl started, trying to think of how to phrase what she was going to request.
"Is Doctor Catmon here?" Don't worry, Maia! Kuu has this handled! "My human's supposed to visit him for important stuff! She gave him cookies once! He should like her! Everyone likes cookies." Best introduction at a workplace, ever!

Left alone, this was going to be nothing but another boring day of paperwork for the feline - but at the very least, it was honest, busy work that needed to be done? Honestly, this wasn't exactly Mikemon's cup of tea, and it wasn't as if the papers needed sorted out right this minute. Without the added pressure, he would welcome any sort of distraction...
... And, thankfully, the doctor was about to get the best kind of distraction! As the front door of the office opened and the bell over the door cave a ring, Stingmon folded over his paper to get a look at the pair. There stood a girl, looking to be about in her late teens, as well as a Kudamon partner – but neither seemed injured, at least outwardly. That alone didn’t mean much, but the introduction would have earned a raised brow from the Stingmon – if he could have managed one at all. Dr. Catmon?
”I… see. Cookies?” Muttering that last part to himself, Stingmon moved forward to press the buzzer, and spoke quite flatly:
”Dr. Catmon? There’s a Kudamon here to see you. It sounds like a social call?”
”Um… alright? I’ll see what’s up.” Honestly, the Mikemon was a little confused by so little detail, but at this point, he would take just about any visitor. It would only take about a minute for Dr. Mikemon to reach the front – and as soon as he saw the faces of his two visitors, a smile beamed right across his face: ”Ah, Maia, Kuu!” He gave a laugh, any tenseness he had in his tone quickly vanishing as he took a step forward. ”Honestly, I can’t thank you enough for coming, even if its just to check it out. Stingmon, these are the two I mentioned a while back – the tamer who might start interning with us.”
The Stingmon blinked, now looking with more interest, as Dr. Mikemon returned his attention to Maia: ”Sorry, you caught me a little unprepared. Well, come on to the back, let’s see if we can organize something – you need anything to drink?”
Sheesh, now the cat was in full ‘interview’ mode!

Stingmon seemed willing to play along with Kuu's antics well enough! Kuu gave very firm, yet enthusiastic, nods as he could hear the secretary refer to Mikemon by his appropriate name. Doctor Catmon was way better! Way more professional! And recognizable and stuff! Kuu just knew that this would catch on.
What he didn't know was that Maia honestly didn't know what Mikemon's name was. Surely, that would make for a problem. Oops.
At least upon Mikemon's appearance, most blanks were filled in with information. Did Maia remember it? Heck no! But, at least she understood that the plan was to intern! Who knew? Maybe a bit of memory loss would actually help retain that sort of information! Or... the exact opposite. Though, the Calico actually did seem a bit familiar now that she was looking at him. With any luck, it was actually remembering, rather than a forced feeling.
"Sorry we took so long to visit and stuff! I bet us being in human world time made it feel like forever since you visited!" At least Kuu was here to take initiative! Someone had to do the talking, after all! How long had it been since Mikemon made that visit? Even Kuu had lost track. Then again, that was the fate of someone who jumped between two drastically different 'timezones' so often!
Feeling like she had remained too quiet for too long, the tamer felt the need to add in, "I hope we didn't come at a bad time." Should they have made an appointment? Doctors could be very busy people! Er... Busy cats? Whatever. Either way, Mikemon seemed pretty enthused to see them! So that had to be a good sign! But, at the question of if she wanted a drink, the girl debated for a second, before humming an, "um-- Water would be nice."
And, before she could even say a thank you for offering, Kuu already piped back in. "Do I get to go into the back with you? Or am I gonna hang out with Stingmon?" This question was followed with the fox staring at the secretary with as wide of eyes as he could manage. Oh. That was probably not the most promising look. Hopefully, Kuu hadn't been eating sugar before this, because that was the expression of a kid hyped up on an entire package of pixie stix! "We could be best friends." Oh no.
Of course, with either response, Maia was going to follow Mikemon! The rest was simply a question of who was going to be tormented by enjoy Kuu's company!

Honestly, Maia's little bit of amnesia probably meant a lot less than it might have in other circumstances. If Dr. Mikemon had extensively known Maia from before, maybe he'd have a better idea of how she was 'supposed' to act, her tendencies, her ability to remember names, her likes and dislikes... but this? Mikemon had only seen Maia once, and the intent of that was to check up on the Kudamon for a potential D-Reaper infection. And Kuu's personality was far more memorable on a first visit than Maia's. At least for the moment, the cat wouldn't be able to know what, if anything, was wrong.
"Oh, that's alright. I sorta dropped it on you both last minute - though I am glad you two took the time." Giving a nod towards the Kudamon, he then gave a blink towards Maia. "Oh, not at all - you caught me at a rather slow time, as it is. We probably won't get interrupted, here." He did take a mental note there - and gave a nod. "Alright, I'll grab a bottle of water on our way back. And, um..." Kuu's question came out of left field.
Indeed, he seemed enamored with the Stingmon, the secretary finding himself staring right back - the signs of a tired bug hidden behind that expressionless exoskeleton. "I should probably just talk to Maia - Stingmon, you good?"
"I'll make do, sir." With a shrug, he'd turn his attention to the Kudamon, as Mikemon would make his way back.
Past several observation rooms, a lab, and a break room - one where he snagged a fresh bottle of water, offering it to the tamer - the two would soon make it all the way back to his office. It was perhaps as expected, especially since the cat really didn't have time to prepare: the desk still had a few open files on it, a drawer or two clicked shut as he dragged a chair over, to sit more face-to-face with his potential intern.
"So," Mikemon started, "I guess I should just start with this. I was impressed to see what kind of questions you were asking back then, and you followed along pretty well - have you had any experience with medicine in the human world? Anything's fine." He was both curious, and covering his bases, trying to gauge just how much he could rely on her from the start. And after that question, he'd ask what would usually be a simple question:
"So, tell me a bit about yourself!"

It was definitely a good think that Mikemon didn't know Maia well enough to go off of her usual personality! Instead, a little confusion might seem normal! For now, she wouldn't worry too much about that detail of the situation. Or, at least, she'd try not to. All she really needed to know was that this was a doctor's office, she was here for something involving interning, and the doctor was a cat.
On the bright side, it seemed to be a slow day at the doctor's office, so it wasn't like they were inconveniencing the feline with an appearance. Should they have tried to make an appointment? It was hard to tell. But, if they were out of place, Mikemon was doing a decent job at making them feel welcome!
Kuu, of course, wasn't offended at being left behind. Stingmon didn't sound as enthused as he hoped, but maybe they'd still manage to hit things off! Before leaving his tamer's shoulder, the Digimon squished his face against her cheek. "You got this!" No words of wisdom from the fox! Then again, were there ever words of wisdom when Kuu was involved? Soon, he bounced from the girl's shoulder, and onto Stingmon's desk. Hopefully he wouldn't land on anything important! "Do you have any games? Board games? Video games? Food Games?" The rookie would give a thoughtful pause, before adding, "How 'bout tic-tac-toe?"
Your problem now, Stingmon!
Meanwhile, Maia would be following the feline-doctor through his workplace. Amber eyes would shift to examine each room that they passed. And then, of course, the break room, where she'd take the water that was offered to her. "Thank you." It would be rude not to thank someone that just gave her something, after all!
Now that they had made it to the office, the real test would begin. What had she shown knowledge of, back when they met? A lot of blanks filled her mind. Heck, she could barely remember what classes she currently was taking!
Kuu probably knew them, though.
"I don't have much experience with it, really," the blonde admitted. "My aunt is a nurse, so she's shared some stories here and there." But, those surely wouldn't save someone who was dying in a worst-case scenario! "I've taken more classes on psychology than on nursing -- but I guess they don't offer too many medical courses in my school." It made sense, after all. Nobody wanted anyone 'experimenting' on medical procedures in the hallways!
This definitely felt like an interview that the tamer wasn't prepared for. Should she have worn nicer clothes?
But, what was there to tell? Especially when the girl didn't know? "I spend a lot of time in the Digital World," she started, grasping for something to work with. Of course she spent a lot of time here. She hadn't left since she had started having memory problems! "A lot of my friends spend a lot of time here, too." These weren't very good selling points. What was? "Most of the time, I have to find ways to help from the sidelines." After all, being a tamer was being a giant target. To get too close to even attempt to join the fight would be a stupid idea in more ways than one. The few times she had were reckless distractions. "Right now, there's not much I can do aside from using cards." Which, sure, were helpful. But, they also only helped so much. "So, I've been trying to learn more about Digimon to find better ways to help out." And, what better way, than to speak with a digi-doctor, after all?

Yup, this was definitely Stingmon's problem! As Maia and Mikemon made their way to the back, the secretary was left to deal with what seemed to be an infinitely energetic Kudamon. Just a few seconds after the two were out of earshot, he was asking about all sorts of stuff - though at least it had a theme. Games and food!
And as Mikemon's door manager and secretary, this wasn't the first time that he had to deal with kids! "Food games, huh? Tell you what." The Stingmon opened up his desk, and pulled out a good old time-waster: a metal ring puzzle. Setting it down before the Kudamon, he explained the rules: "All you have to do is disconnect the red ring from the rest of them, without bending or breaking any of the others. If you do that, I have a bag of jellybeans with your name on it."
It was both a game, a distraction, and the promise of a reward - all bundled up in a little exercise that might show a 'clever' side of the pipe-fox that he hadn't thought of before. Or, well, it might lead to quick frustration and boredom! It didn't take long for Maia and Mikemon to get settled in the back, the doctor keeping a smile on his face. The first few questions were more a means to try and get to know the tamer, and right off the bat, Maia showed a bit of promise.
"Hm? Well, you already have most experience than most... and honestly, psychology is something I've never been too 'good at' myself." At the very least, she had shown promise in a similar field, and the first question was well answered.
The second, however, made the Mikemon almost stare blankly... 'she and her friends spend a lot of time in the Digital World'? What about her hobbies, her friends, her family? What music did she like? Did she ever have a part time job or 'want to be something' when she grew up? The cat couldn't help but ponder, whiskers shifting a bit as he idly itched his cheek. "... Are you nervous, Maia?" Was that it? Because he honestly didn't get a lot to go off of just from that.
If it was just nerves, it might get better as she settled for the rest of the interview. Picking up a folder, the cat pulled over to the next page: "Alright... I know this might be a bit sudden, but I want to assess how you'd solve a problem you've had little experience in. Though a lot of these questions are... hm."
The interviewer wasn't exactly the most experienced one, either. Flipping through his notes, he'd finally settle on one: "Alright... You're walking down a stone path, when a 'mon offers to play a simple game - if you win, you get a gold coin; if you lose you have to pay one. All you have to do is guess which hand is holding a white stone - but you notice, when he pulls two stones off of the ground, that both of them are black. Despite this, you know you can easily win the bet. How do you do it?"

Oooh! Stingmon was good at this! The Digimon definitely knew how to play Kuu's constant hunger! And jelly beans sounded amazing! "Deal!" The pipefox chirped, pulling the rings into his paws. Without even consulting if Stingmon would be okay with the item going into his mouth, he promptly clamped onto one of the rings with his teeth, and began to twist.
While the expression planted on the Kudamon's face looked like one of intense concentration, if Stingmon was paying attention, he might notice that Kuu was not actually having difficulties with this puzzle. The primary concern was not bending anything with his teeth! Still, with a lack of thumbs, it would probably take at least a few minutes before he would be able to wiggle everything to separate the red ring from everything else!
For the time being, though, Stingmon would be able to enjoy some relative peace and get some actual work done!
On the bright side, Mai seemed to have a somewhat promising skill, considering the doctor didn't specialize on the psychological spectrum! It was a good sign, in her opinion. Unless Mikemon decided that it really wasn't something that he actually wanted as a trait of a potential intern under him!
But, it appeared that her next response had been a bit of a fail. Nervous? "A- A bit," she admitted, giving a somewhat sheepish smile. Was it due to the interview itself? Or because she wasn't entirely sure of her own answers being accurate? Likely a bit of both! But, nerves was definitely an accurate excuse regardless. Maybe, she should have tried to discuss something about drawing? Wouldn't that have bored the doctor? It was probably too late to tell, now!
And, now there was some sort of... riddle, that she had to answer! Tilting her head, almost in a manner more akin to something Kuu would to when thinking, the blonde debated for a second. "Well, he didn't say whose hand it had to be in," she stated, in a way to imply that she was explaining her thought process. "So, I would pick up a white stone from the ground, and guess my own hand." Was that going to work for an answer? It was an odd scenario for someone that was interviewing in a doctor's office, rather than in some sort of adventuring club, but surely it would have its purposes! Or, maybe it was just to see if Maia was actually able to think of answers for anything.
