Old World's Shadow [K/Invite]

After parting ways with Quill in the Eastern Timberlands, Owen had embarked on a search toward the South for the valued member of his old unit - the 7/71st Recon battalion. Lately it seemed that several digimon that were a part of this group from the old digital world were regaining their memories. However, there was one digimon he rather wanted to be able to re-join; his old executive officer, namely, 2nd Lieutenant Skye Gatomon as he had known her.
Owen's search had been dogged and thorough, and eventually, he had found her. But most unfortunately, Skye was in no mood to be part of a military unit. She was still shaken by her experience in the Village of Beginnings, having encountered a feral digimon that she had narrowly prevented absorbing a killed baby digimon. However, she still was glad to see Owen again, having remembered him as her old commander and was at least willing to spend time with him as old friends.
And so, Owen and Skye were walking the streets of Whitewater for the day, then, the night, both of them catching up on old and new times. Owen told Skye all about his new family - his husband Hikaru the Dorumon and his son Logan the Offmon (both of whom were partners to humans). And in turn, Skye told Owen about her accidental journey to the Dark Area, where she had encountered the twins Willis and Domon, and had obtained a traveling companion now present on her shoulder, Hickory the Chuumon (who seemed more like a variant what with his purple and white fur as well as his used car salesman outfit).
The three of them had taken a few drinks from the Caritas, but not enough to get completely inebriated. They were currently having some late night refreshments outside a cafe by the beach, clearly reveling in the cheerful night air of the tropical digimon city.

Honestly K rather enjoyed wandering the city, trying to get used to the sprawling masses that went about their lives day in and day out. She had very little reason to stay home now that she had recovered for the most part past spending time with mikemon. Though she had to admit to herself that it was good to give one another a little bit of space even though that she was going to be here for a few weeks if not a month before getting back to her duties in some fashion or another.
She had gotten more comfortable here thankfully but it didn't stop her from wandering around as her shutmon form when she was exploring like this. The soft curves of her cloak billowing out behind her and turning a few heads here or there. It wasn't every day you saw someone wearing a jesmon cloak and have stark white fur. Hell most people associated shutmon with a virus type rather than vaccine.
Her wanderings eventually took her to the beach where for the most part it was quite calm and quite peaceful making the shutmon feel a tad more relaxed than normal. She was passing by a group of individuals on the beach, a gaomon, a Gatomon and a Chuumon. She would of just kept walking but her nose started twitching and she found herself stopping maybe about ten or so feet away. Furrowing her brow a little bit as it was associated with someone she had met a while ago she tried to put a name to it before turning to look at the three. It had to be the Gaomon, he smelled a lot like he had before. But there were little variables that were off that were making her body more curious than not.
"...Owen isn't it?"

While they were talking on the beach, Owen was pretty much completely engaged in conversation with Skye and Hickory. For one thing, he had seemed to surprise his old Lieutenant by informing her of his new family, which consisted of his fiance Hikaru the Dorumon, and his two sons, Logan the Offmon and Haku the Samoyed-furred Gaomon.
"Well, sir... you've certainly found a purpose in the world at least" Skye said, awkwardly, but still felt impressed at it all.
"How do ya make kids anyway?" Hickory asked, the Chuumon confused.
"Well, it's all a matter of forming the ultimate friendship with another digimon" Owen explained. "Once you love and trust another digimon with all your heart, everything's possible".
A look of doubt crossed Skye's face, but it quickly diminished. While she knew Owen to be something of a dork, she knew he wasn't a liar, and she supposed that all she could do was take his word for truth.
Other digimon were passing by as they rested on the beach, exchanging stories and either making murmurs of acknowledgement or laughing at the more absurd stories. And then another digimon passed them, an Ultimate level Shutmon. One that recognized Owen, it seemed.
Immediately the three of them tensed up for a moment as they thought an Ultimate level randomly stopping and asking one of their names would be a moment of threat, but, Owen recognized the digimon in front of him. She was a digimon he had met in the Northern Prominence, sheltering in a cave.
"Ah, yeah!" he said, smiling. "Hiya, K, fancy seeing you here!"
Skye had tensed up for a moment too, but, relaxed as well when it seemed there was no hostilities here.
"Everything alright, sir?" she asked, just making sure.
"Oh yeah, perfectly fine" Owen said, standing up. "I've gotta introduce you guys. Skye, this is K, she's a nice digimon that helped us out in the Northern Prominence in a blizzard. K, this is Skye, she's an old friend, and, ex-Lieutenant I suppose". His smile faltered a little. Skye sighed, but supposed that was the truth of it.
"Hello, K, nice to meet you" the Gatomon said. Hickory meanwhile tried to hide behind Skye's head. The Chuumon was a little timid after all.

The shutmon rubbed the back of her neck, shooting a small smile to the Gaomon once he answered her query. Well it was a somewhat awkward greeting if you really thought about it but she couldn't really say that it was any less effective than addressing him like no time had passed. That nothing had changed since they last had met. Back then her fur had been purple and her eyes hadn't been like her renamon's form. Nor did she have the red cloak!
"Taking a vacation I reckon? It's good to see you again Owen."
The Shutmon looked between the the two for a few moments and then paused as Owen made introductions. She'd give a small bow to Skye as she was introduced and shoot a somewhat cheerful smile to the Gatomon.
"A pleasure to meet you Skye. Who is this behind your head?"
The shutmon seemed rather amused and leaned ever so slightly to the left to try to see whom was trying to hide behind the gatomon's head. After a few moments she'd furrow her brow a bit and tilt her head slightly as something simply clicked in her head.
"Ex-Lieutenant.... The both of you were prior military mons I take it? Erm... Not to pry of course!"
It was honestly good to see this particular Gaomon again. Even though their last venture was far in the north which K could call her home away from home. At least n ow they didn't have to worry about exploring a cave or trying to survive the cold; freely able to converse in such a place was nice... That and the shutmon particularly enjoyed moments where she wasn't having to fight or deal with intense but stressful situations.

Indeed Owen had been off-put by K's new appearance, but, as a beast digimon, he lived by the fact that his nose never lied. And K's scent was the same as it had been, at least he thought. There were differences, yes, but the core of it felt true.
He smiled at the Shutmon. "Yeah, just a little one. Whitewater's always a great place for this kind of thing" he answered. Then K and Skye acknowledged each other for the first time. K then asked who else was there, which made Hickory squeak nervously. But Skye answered honestly.
"Hello, K. The digimon behind my head is Hickory, a Chuumon. He normally feels nervous around digimon a higher level than him so please don't be offended by his actions".
"Yeesh, Skye, can't you think of a more diplomatic way to say that?!" Hickory snapped with indignation. But, given the truth of the words, well, he didn't move forward on that line of conversation.
K then noted they were both ex-military digimon. The Gaomon and Gatomon acknowledged that with nods.
"Yeah, long time ago" Owen said, speaking through a sigh. For a moment he wanted to divulge his entire mind at the notion. That he thought he had been reborn at a time of peace while in reality the digital world seemed to be on the verge of ripping itself apart. That even though he had a husband and children that he still wanted to destroy all lingering evil to make a safe world for them. But, well, it all felt like an irregular war here and he wasn't sure if it was right for him to speak frankly about it, so he didn't. And taking their cue, neither did Skye or Hickory.
"So, K, have you seen much around the digital world lately?" Owen asked with curiosity.

"A little vacation will always do some good. Well. can't really argue your pick for a vacation spot either."
The shutmon let out a small rumbling chuckle; it was somewhat relieving to know that the other was okay. At least physically it seemed; with how the digital world was at the moment she had spent a lot of time worrying about people. But it didn't stop her from interacting with those that she came across of course!
"Well if it would make him more comfortable I could pop down to my renamon state. I'm comfortable in either really."
The shutmon chuckled again and shook her head, certainly it was a pretty straightforward way of approaching that particular problem but it was something she could relate to. If she was around too many individuals of higher power scales she felt nervous as well.
K tilted her head a little bit when Owen clarified that they both were ex-military digimon from a long time ago. The sigh that followed suit also meant that there was something unresolved about it but she knew better to pry. Blinking a few times she'd take a slow seat; owen's next question catching her somewhat off guard. She'd pause and consider...
There had been a lot of places she had been since they last met; though the most painful of places had been the dark area. With a wistful sigh she'd dip her head in a small nod.
"Dark area, some places in the desert, the north again... as of late I've been spending a lot of time around whitewater. Trying to re-orientate myself after a particularly bad erm.. incident."
The shutmon shook her had and gestured to the gaomon crossing her legs slightly to make sitting a touch more comfortable. She wasn't sure just how to explain that particular incident that had made her entire data structure basically change into a one way ticket to being a proper digimon. Her next pair of questions were rather polite but had an soft edge of worry about them.
"What of you? I hope at least the digital world has been good for you as of late?"

"Heh, yeah, a warm spot seems to be a nice spot" Owen remarked to K. "Just... ugh, can't stand humid regions. Makes me pant like all heck, have to force myself not to". Thankfully the worst of the summer had passed and it wasn't peak summer heat, meaning he'd have to pant to keep himself at a reasonable temperature. That was something that Owen envied of humans - they had sweat glands, he did not.
"Uh... well... if it's not too much trouble..." Hickory murmured to K at the offer to speak as Rookie levels. Not that there was much he could do against another rookie level, just, he liked it when acquaintances powered down when they could as an act of trust. If K did so, it would do much to put him at ease.
K then answered their questions as to where she had visited so far. Some answers made them intrigued.
"Y-you went to the Dark Area?" Hickory asked, astonished. "W-what for? Is something going on there?" Hickory was always worried that there'd be some kind of plan by the ragtag leaders of that area was in motion to cause trouble with the rest of the world. He hoped to know that that wasn't the case.
Skye meanwhile was interested in places in the desert. "What sort of things happened out there?" she asked in relation to the location. Then K mentioned an incident of some kind. There was a moment of hesitation before Owen answered that.
"Well... sorry to hear that you've had difficulties. I'll only ask what they were if you feel in need of help with that though" he offered diplomatically. If it was something K wanted to handle alone, then that would be that. If she needed help though, well, the Gaomon might be willing to oblige there.

K flinched a little bit at the idea of having to force yourself to stop a coping mechanism for the heat. She often when it got too hot would have to find somewhere just to keep herself from not moving too much, somewhere cool with lots of shade. After all with thicker fur also meant she retained heat a little too well.
"They tend to make me not want to be there. It's a pity some of them can't be a smidge colder."
The shutmon gave Hickory a small smile in regards of the shifting down to rookie level and found herself going from the rather big wolf to a sleeker fox. The renamon stretching a little bit and adjusting her cloak so that it wasn't going to spread out and get stepped on if people passed by a bit too close.
"yes, I went to go visit my father and well... I don't suppose you've seen the news? It was on there for a bit I think but I can understand if you didn't know."
She'd gesture to her chest and then shifted a little bit scratching at her neck awkwardly. Did she need some help with this? Well. In the long run how could they help what happened in the past?
"For me it's just a matter of healing. But the fights that ensued out there were... rough and came from the D-reaper. If you've heard of them. If not I'd suggest looking into it yourself; I don't want to spread too much worrying information past that it's dangerous. As I don't know enough about them myself."
The renamon rubbed her muzzle and tilted her head slightly. What else could she say about it? Without at least worrying them too far about it.
"But past the events that transpired out there well... it's been nicer. More relaxed. Sort of working back into the swing of things."
The renamon also noted that they hadn't answered her question but... she figured that if they didn't want to share that was fine too!
