Nik Henare had been slightly confused when he had received the message from Owen over in Whitewater. The two had exchanged messages over their D-Terminal (and the equivalent device that solo digimon used) that one of Owen's friends, a Shoutmon would be coming to Terminus to seek some information from Brad about dealing with things from his past life.
"Well, what do you think about that, bro?" Nik asked his partner. Brad the Bearmon, smaller and skinnier than most others in his species, but still was as tough and loyal as any Bearmon would be - with the provision that he never liked violence, and often walked around the place wearing a red t-shirt as well as his normal threads.
"I guess... well... if he's Owen's friend" Brad began hesitantly. Since the old beast digimon had gone through his last reincarnation it had been a significant change indeed. He had been changed from soldier to pacifist, the thirst for battle completely dried up. But still, the old soldier would never turn his back on those that needed his help. After all, he used to be a soldier in Owen's old unit, the 7/71st Recon. What kind of person would he be if he recused himself from dealing with good peoples' problems?
"So you're alright with it?" Nik asked his partner gently. Brad nodded, and soon after that, Owen thanked them and instructed them to go to the Terminus City Trailmon station to wait for the two as they travelled from Whitewater.
"I wonder what they'll be like?" Nik wondered out loud.
"Well, if Owen likes them, hopefully they'll be okay" Brad said. He knew Owen could be a bit naive sometimes and not fully grasp who someone is like down deep, but, he was sure that his Gaomon friend wouldn't have befriended evil jerks, so, he was expecting something good from them. The two waited on a bench on the platform for the afternoon Trailmon from Whitewater to arrive.

Meanwhile, Adrian and his partner Shoutmon were currently on the Trailmon from Whitewater, heading straight for Terminus. The search for answers continued.
"I kinda feel bad just bailing on Owen and Logan like that," Shoutmon was telling Adrian during the ride. "I mean, we had just met up with them, and then we immediately leave. I'd personally be pissed if someone did that to me."
"Well, you did have a good reason," Adrian told him. "The way you describe your memory fragments is... honestly starting to terrify me as well. Besides, Owen's a good Digimon, he understands."
"Yeah... you're right, Adrian. Hey, how long until we get there?" Right as he said that, the Trailmon then came to a halt, arriving at the Terminus station. "I'M MAGIC! I want a nice Digi-Burger!" After a few seconds, nothing happened. "Aw, man..."
Chuckling at his partner's stupidity, Adrian helped Shoutmon get up and the two of them exited the train. Looking around the station, it was pretty easy to find the other human standing there with his Bearmon partner, sitting on a bench.
"Hey there," Adrian says, greeting the tamer and Digimon. "You must be the friends Owen was talking about, right? My name's Adrian, and this is my partner Shoutmon."

Back in Whitewater, Owen didn't mind Adrian and Shoutmon rushing off all of a sudden. That just pretty much allowed him to spend more time with Logan and the Gaomon was a happy doggo for that.
Meanwhile in Terminus, Nik and Brad stood up as the Trailmon arrived at the station. It wasn't long before they spotted a Shoutmon with a human tamer as Owen had specified, and it seemed that they recognized them too.
"Hiya, bro" Nik said as they approached, his New Zealand accent fairly obvious. He was a little surprised to see that the other teen was almost as tall as he was, but Nik was probably bulkier. And going by the blond hair, he thought that he probably wasn't a local of Japan. Nothing wrong with that though. "I'm Nik and this is my partner Brad".
"Nice to meet you" Brad said, smiling and speaking in a calm voice. "Owen's told us about you too. He mentioned that you wanted to talk about something personal that I might be able to help you with?".
That seemed to be the reason for the meeting anyway. When confirmed, Brad pointed over to the refreshments kiosk near the elevators that led up to the surface. Down on this platform, it was pretty much only digimon and humans familiar with their world, making it a small safe haven on Earth. "Shall we go over and discuss it over some lunch? I believe I'm a bit famished" he chuckled. There was a free table in a quiet corner where they could talk without being overheard or disturbed.

"Kon'nichiwa," Adrian greeted the New Zealander in Japanese, before speaking in his pretty good English. "It's very nice to meet you, Nik. I gotta say, it's nice not feeling like a giant monster standing above people for once." Probably not a good way to start a conversation, but there you go.
"Yeah, Owen said you'd be able to help me," Shoutmon told the Bearmon. Before he could explain what exactly was going on, Brad had suggested talking over lunch.
"None for me, we just ate," Adrian says, waving his right hand as if politely gesturing a no-thank-you. Shoutmon, however, had a different answer.
"Yeah, I could eat," The red dragon said with a smile, causing Adrian to do a double take.
"What?! But you just ate at Whitewater!"
"That was twenty minutes ago."
"Exactly... alright, fine, but don't complain if you get sick." That entire conversation happened right in front of Nik and Brad. What a great first impression! The group then walked over to the free table, where Shoutmon explained what was going on.
"...these memories are haunting me. It's shifted into dreams recently, as well."
"And this is the only evidence we have," Adrian says, taking out a strange artifact. It was a piece of broken golden armor, but a beautiful pink flower was tied up around it. "Shoutmon suddenly remembered some random Digimon's name when he saw it. It might be related."

Nik was somewhat glad that Adrian could speak English as he had guessed, he could communicate much better that way. Yeah their accents were completely different, but he at least could discern what was being said better this way.
He chuckled as Adrian mentioned that it was nice not being the bigger one of the meeting. "Heh, tell me about it bro, being the big kid in class can be a toughie". Nik had found it hard to socialize that way. Yeah if anyone needed his bulk for a sports team or a hired show of force then everyone would try to be his friend, but otherwise, they tended to keep him at arms' distance. But he had long since got over that. And since he had met Brad, he had come across all sorts of kind and true people that were great friends.
Adrian had apparently already ate on the Trailmon. Shoutmon meanwhile was eager for another meal. "Huh, 20 minutes from Whitewater by Trailmon? That's pretty fast" Brad remarked, grinning. In his experience a normal speed Trailmon took at least 3 hours between Whitewater and Terminus. Perhaps the Trailmon were going on a faster line these days? "Well, we can still have something light if you want" he offered just in case.
As they settled down into the corner of the refreshment kiosk, they got down to business. Apparently Shoutmon was having troubles with memories of his old incarnation, as Owen had told them. They showed some kind of artifact, although Brad didn't know what to make of it.
"...I see" Brad said, looking at Shoutmon with a serious expression. "Now, from what you're telling me, I would like to get a better picture of what's going on here if that's alright. First, could you please tell me everything you remember of your previous incarnation?"
Nik remained silent, figuring that this was something that humans couldn't understand. As far as he knew, digimon led multiple incarnations of their lives, with reincarnation being a very real thing for them. But he was curious how this would go.

"It doesn't have to be light," Shoutmon tells Brad. "I have plenty of room left in my gut for more food."
"Yeah, Shoutmon has a slightly bigger appetite than most Digimon..." Adrian explained. "And I've seen other Digimon eat, so that's saying something." He shuddered at the instances that Digimon would just rip the food apart.
And that is when things got more serious, when Brad asked Shoutmon for everything he could possibly remember, so Shoutmon told him.
"I can remember a lot... for example, there's this one Digimon. I can only remember a silhouette of their shape, but I remember their name... Lia. I had... close feelings for them too, I believe. And... and I also remember a tremendous amount of anger... like, I wanted to burn, and destroy everything..."
Meanwhile, as Shoutmon was speaking, the group was being spied on. The spy was a Grademon, carefully watching the conversation unfold. He seemed to be talking to someone via some sort of communication device.
"Yes, I'm looking at them now... they seem to be talking about the Shoutmon's problem... yes, he assured me that he would be the one... yes... understood. Grademon out."

As Nik went to order some food, Brad listened to what the Shoutmon was saying.
"A digimon named Lia..." Brad repeated, that didn't sound familiar to him. Although he did recognize that one might only be able to remember their shape. He was a little concerned with the idea that there was a tremendous amount of anger and the thirst for destruction.
"Were your feelings for Lia what caused the anger? Some feeling of loss?" Brad asked. "It's fine if you don't know by the way" he added. For a moment he thought that there was something... strong nearby. But then again this was Terminus City, there was bound to be all kinds of digimon here, so he ignored it for now.
Nik then returned with a variety of food. Sandwiches for himself and Brad, some crisps for Adrian if he wanted them and a nice pastry for Shoutmon (assuming that was what they wanted). He noted the serious expression on Brad's face and didn't interrupt.
"So there's nothing else you remember?" Brad asked further. "Well, if so, what tends to trigger these memories, if I might ask?"

Shoutmon nodded. "Y-Yeah, I think so... I can't remember what this Digimon looked like, but every time I think of them I just feel so sad... and I have no idea why..."
"Maybe you cared about them in your past life," Adrian tells Shoutmon before taking a chip and eating it. Then Brad asked Shoutmon what other memories he has.
"Well, that's a tough one... so far, just feelings of anger and sorrow, and that Digimon is all I remember, although I get more memories, more intense ones, every time I digivolve... I just don't know what's wrong with me."
From a distance, the Grademon was now certain that Shoutmon was the target. "Alright, target locked... no, I'm not going to delete him. We still need him, remember? And I doubt that Primary Village will let us walk out with its Digiegg... alright, I'll take the others out."
In the corner of his eye, Adrian saw a suspicious looking Digimon. The Digimon then brought out a sword... it was clear that the sword would be thrown straight at the group!
"LOOK OUT!" Adrian suddenly yells, slashing his Bota Bubble card. If the card was not used, then Brad would have been deleted immediately from the surprise attack!
However, the Digimon that threw it was no longer standing in that spot...

Brad had no time to mull over this new information, as his beast senses sprang into action as the attack was launched. "Nik!" he snapped at his partner, who made no mistake of what that meant. The big young man immediately jumped to his feet, wondering where the danger was coming from, then all of a sudden, an attack was launched straight at Brad. Had he not been shielded at the last moment things would have been bad.
This was too threatening now. Nik reached into his pocket for his digivice, which reacted to the feeling of crisis boiling inside and activated. He held the digivice over Brad.
"Bearmon evolve! Grizzmon!" he shouted as he grew from a little to a big bear. Why did this have to happen right here and now? Quickly, Brad sniffed around for the thing that had attacked him. But still, he needed to protect Nik from danger first, then himself.
He then saw where the culprit had gone. That was a Grademon. He growled a little from fear and anger. This was an Ultimate level. Why was he attacking?
"What the hell is your problem?!" Nik snapped at the unseen opponent. "Brad never hurt you, what the hell are you doing?!"
He needed help, he had the feeling that Brad would be outmatched here. But Brad reared on his hind legs and stopped him from going too far with a gentle grasp of his paw.
"Nik, stay behind me" Brad instructed. He then brought his front paws down on the ground with a cry of "Gaia Fortify!" At once, a barrier of stone erupted from the earth around him, unfortunately upending many tables and chairs in the kiosk setting. But that would be something to deal with later.
Gaia Fortify: Focuses his energy into the earth below, then summons forth a wall of hardened earth in front of himself or an ally. This protects from one Champion level attack or lower as long as it's active. Perfect level attacks or higher ignore its effect. [Cooldown: 1 post]

"Is everyone alright?!" Adrian asks after the culprit had vanished.
"Yeah... yeah, I'm fine," Shoutmon responds. "What the frick was that?!"
"I think it was a Grademon," Adrian says. "I saw something in golden armor throw that sword at us... but where did he go?"
There was no time to worry about that, as Nik had the right idea to digivolve Brad into a Grizzmon, which was a Champion level Digimon. The Digimon then used Gaia Fortify, which caused a wall of hardened earth to form around everyone instantly. However, before the attack was launched, the Grademon quickly swooped in and grabbed Shoutmon, getting out right as the wall was formed.
"SHOUTMON!" Adrian yells, immediately trying to punch the wall surrounding them.
"Target acquired," the Grademon could he heard saying, "heading back to home base now."
Adrian growled as he kept pounding on the wall. "He's getting away, we have to do something NOW!"

This was terrible! The Grademon had grabbed Shoutmon before any of them could react. And Adrian was frantic. Nik immediately empathized, if someone had taken Brad from him like that he'd be distraught. But the young Maori man knew that he was brought into this world for a reason - bonded with Brad, befriended with others, he was here to protect, not sit by. And with this determination, his digivice began to glow again. "Nik... what is this?" Brad asked, the Grizzmon glowing again. The wall that had formed crumbled around them, it was useless protection against an Ultimate level anyway. "I don't know..." Nik said, looking at his digivice. The words "Perfect Evolution" formed on the screen, and a golden aura was glowing from it. He gasped as he realized the aura was glowing over both his and Brad's bodies. "But let's find out!" Apt words indeed for the bearer of the Crest of Curiosity. "Grizzmon... evolve!" Brad cried, and at once his purple fur turned pink. His paws turned to blades, long blue hair falling down his back. He shrunk in bulk, but increased dramatically in strength. The light of the evolution faded, and he was now resembling a lithe beast. "Kyukimon!" he finished, then rushed through the wall with speed Nik hadn't thought possible, running to try and catch up with Grademon. At once, he used his new form's attack. "Double Crescent Blade!" he snarled, then sent two blades of energy straight at Grademon's back, homing in on him.

Tears fell down Adrian's face as he continuously kept pounding on the stone wall. This couldn't be how it ended; Shoutmon can't be taken from him! Suddenly, however, Nik's digivice began to glow!
"No way..." Adrian says, staring at Nik's digivice. "Brad's Digivolving to Ultimate!" Then Brad digivolved into a Kyukimon, another Ultimate level Digimon! The bladed Digimon then blasted off at incredible speeds, trying to catch up to the Grademon.
Meanwhile, Shoutmon was struggling in Grademon's arms. "Let me go, ya golden ass!"
"Quiet, Master," the Grademon told him, "we'll get you back to normal in no time."
"Master...?" Before any more words were shared, Grademon suddenly yelled in agony, dropping Shoutmon onto the streets of Terminus. Growling, he turned around and faced Kyukimon, both his swords drawn.
"I must ask that you leave us alone! You are meddling with official business here, and I cannot allow that to happen!"

Brad's attack had struck true, and at least had halted the Grademon's escape. He landed twenty feet away, close enough to take up pursuit again, but not close enough so that he'd do anything rash with Shoutmon. The Kyukimon's mind was near-overclocking with the senses of his new form. He felt more powerful in every facet of himself. He could not only sense every digimon in his vicinity, but the wind currents too, but that was immaterial to the current situation. He knew what his mission was - to rescue Shoutmon. Nothing else.
As Nik and Carlos would catch up in due time, Brad faced the hostile opponent. His fox-like face broke into a smirk at those deceptive, lying words.
"I would have left you alone if you hadn't attacked me and kidnapped Shoutmon" he said. "But now I'm afraid it's my official business to stop you. I doubt you'd understand, not having a human partner of your own, but, I'm afraid you have committed a grievous error. And if you refuse to correct it, then I will". He raised his scythes threateningly.
"However, I must admit that I have renounced my old ways as a soldier, therefore, I will grant you this one chance. Leave this place, now, do not take Shoutmon with you, and we may all be better off, you included". His smile faded and he gave a most serious expression at the armored Ultimate. "This is my business, because a friend of mine told Shoutmon to seek my help, and I fully intend to carry it out to the end".
That was why this was personal. Brad didn't think he could ever face Owen again if the Gaomon had sent Shoutmon to talk to him only to have him end up kidnapped. He may not still be an official soldier of the 7/71st Recon like old times, but, he would still conduct himself as though he was.

Adrian ran along with Nik, trying to get close to Shoutmon and the kidnapper Grademon. Fortunately, Brad's attack hit it, causing it to drop Shoutmon. Unfortunately, it caused Grademon to drop Shoutmon. Bolting as fast as he could, he jumped in at the last minute to catch the red dragon.
"Shoutmon!" Adrian cheered with glee. "Thank God you're alright! Come on, let's get out of here."
"No, wait..." Shoutmon says, releasing himself from Adrian's grasp. "He said something really weird... I need to here what he has to say."
The Grademon growled at Brad, but then regained his calm composure, and just began talking to Brad.
"Listen, Kyukimon, I am but a humble employee to my boss, RedMagnamon. You see, my boss requested that I collect this... Shoutmon here. He is important to us."
As Shoutmon listened to Grademon talk, he put the pieces together... RedMagnamon was that big tyrant guy that Adrian was talking about after that visit with Doctor Cross... but Grademon called Shoutmon his "master." Did that mean...?

As Nik and Adrian caught up to them, Brad was unimpressed by the Grademon's explanation. He still stood ready to strike if another move was made.
"That is not an acceptable excuse" he said, coldly. "You took Shoutmon suddenly, with hostility and without his consent. I don't care what this RedMagnamon said, you are NOT going to take him. So go report back to your "master" that you have failed, and if you try again, you're going to have a lot more trouble on your hands". Brad was willing to call in support and help Shoutmon hide out in a safe place if need be.
"Yeah, you don't have the right to take him" Nik added once he realized what was going on. "Shoutmon is Adrian's partner, not yours, you don't have the right to break that bond!"
"Well said" Brad added, then glared at Grademon with his red eyes. "You can leave, now" he spoke, making it clear that Grademon was not welcome anywhere near them. He didn't want this to erupt into battle, but, he was prepared, he knew how fast that digimon could move, and the slightest move of hostility would make Brad react just as fast.
