"Hehe!"
At the very least, Syre had another way to keep herself entertained! Leading Siris back to her room - one much simpler than Mikemon's office, with one side of the room holding a shelf filled with games and books - the BlackGatomon would listen as he spoke of what he knew. Checkers? Jacks? Euchre? That last one brought a bit of a twitch from her ear, but they would need two other people to try that one out!
So, instead, she would pull out a checkers set - a simple black-and-red set from Terminus - and would set out the pieces. A quick flick of a coin determined that Syre would be going second, the cat placing the red pieces on her brother's side of the board.
"Hehe!"
It was just a matter of playing - and with more practice and time at these sorts of games, it wasn't a surprise that Syre had an advantage. Just a few minutes in, and she was already sitting on both a piece advantage and even a king. Still, the Renamon seemed to put a little more thought into his moves than a complete beginner!
"Mm... you have played before..." Looking at a rather tricky move, the cat sighed as she made a forced jump, passing play back to the Renamon. "Where'd you learn this stuff?"

Siris was impressed by how well Syre knew this game, moreover, that she managed to pull several fast ones on him with double jumps and even a king. He was on the defensive now, and could only take her pieces with his now inevitable loss. With a stroke of his chin, he moved another piece;
"The Village. Cherrymon loves it and plays with the youngsters. She said it was; 'Used for tactics in war' and such."
He gave a chuckle as he managed to jump her king;
"You took the bait~"
He would watch her carefully to see what move he needed to make next and would continue his questions from his stand point;
"So... what's mom like? She looked beautiful from the picture dad showed."
He was pretty quiet about asking, almost like he had done something wrong. As if Dad would be upset if he heard it. He didn't know why he did, but it felt like the right thing to do as the entirety of this was unfamiliar and new. He didn't want to be a burden, same as always. Moreover, Siris was curious to see how powerful she was. He liked to compare his own skills to others as a sort of milestone. As his mind traced on powers of his mother and father... eventually it led to Syre. He thought to ask about her strength, but that was a question for another time.
That's all he had now!

"War tactics, huh? I'm not entirely sure on that... seems more like something people would play in a war while they were hiding." Syre blinked, appearing frustrated for a moment as her king was jumped... but quickly shot a grin.
Tap, tap! Siris did need to get that King off board, but it wasn't as if he was in any position to win this game! Taking two pieces in one stride, she stacked those red chips off to her side. "Too late for that, Siris... Brother? Sy?" Halfway through her retort, the comment somehow turned to a question of 'what he wanted Syre to call him'. She was fine with anything, of course.
At that question, though, Syre returned a sigh. "I don't know much - mostly what dad's told me, anyway. Apparently she's kind, strong-headed and just a bit of a righteous sort. She might be why that letter came for you, after all." Moving another piece, the BlackGatomon gave a chuckle. "They probably skipped over me because, well, virus. Mom is pretty cool, though - a Renamon able to use both fire and ice!"
Could Siris do that? Syre was curious - but she kept her focus on the game. And soon, Siris was down to just his last two pieces - one stuck against a wall, and an apparent throw-away king that seemed easy enough to force out! "... Hm. You're better at most of the club than this stuff... that number stuff earlier? How'd you do it so fast?"

With a sigh, Siris managed one more jump before he was down to his final piece, which was defensively pressed against the edge of the board. From what he's been told, his mother sounds like an ideal person, and now with the Luminas people trying to induct him? He was convinced his mother was a literal saint. Plus, she could wield both fire and ice? Siris had some merit of control over ice, but nothing to do with fire.
Then came the question about the numbers.
"I don't know what it is... I just hear or see a converse of numbers and I can figure it out without much thought or time. I guess Dad is a doctor or deals with numbers? Maybe I got it from him."
The Fox truthfully didn't know where this innate ability to understand numbering and equations came from. He could only assume, as he was certain that's what Mikemon and Syre were doing.
He finally moved the piece forward, allowing her to take that last 'soldier' in their field of battle. He pressed his finger on it as he slid it forward, "So what's the day-to-day like around here? Training? Play checkers all day?"
This was something that was on his mind for a while now. If he was going to live here, what would he be doing?

"Hm... handy, at least? All I know is that I didn't get anything like that from dad." It actually seemed more than just numbers - though uneducated, Siris seemed like he was, well, 'naturally smart'! Though Siris had more experience at these sorts of games, the Renamon managed to put a surprising amount of pressure on her - even when playing from behind.
Taking that last piece, she gave more of a surprised blink than anything else. As for his question? "Mm... that's a hard question! Dad's a medical doctor - every few days he meets up with his ongoing patients to help out with them. Otherwise, its work with the 'Research' club - an exploration team. Though, aside from dad, everyone else in the Club has a human partner, or is a spirit wielder, or something like that..."
So what exactly did that make their day to day? "Dad's got me on books and the like right now. Says its for 'education', I think? Other than that, its pretty relaxed - and I don't know what he'll want to do for you. Math books, maybe!"
She was joking, letting out a small laugh at that: "Well, maybe. But, I dunno - with how 'rough' you look, you almost seem like a fighting type?"

Siris gave a quirky smile, she had him pegged almost right away! Siris wasn't very good at conversing with those he didn't know, and he was a bit wary when it came to thinks he didn't fully understand. But he was good at two things! Math and Fighting. Like the numbers and the math, Siris just... knew how to hurt mons and humans. It was like something clicked in him and he reacted in an almost scarily precise manner.
"Yeah, it's one of my few strong suits. I can fight well enough. But not as well as I could"
Most likely because he had not really used it, save against a Gazimon who was bullying some newer Digimon fresh from the village. Where what little he knew was overshadowed by the fact of him tossing the bully aside and moving on. Much to the impressed children!
Crossing his arms at the loss, he looked to Syre. Humans were here? As far as he had gone, he never actually met one. Certainly he saw them as they were almost as plentiful as Digimon, but they all looked like clones to him. That was the biggest hurdle was that he was scared he'd meet one, then confuse them for another. The last bit he had zero information on, so naturally, he followed up;
"Spirit... wielders? What are those?"
He could venture a guess, but the Digital World as a whole was a big question mark to him!

Aha, Syre had it right! The BlackGatomon had a hunch from the start, given how he first introduced himself to the cat and his general 'poise'. Siris confirmed it, and his sister nodded in response. "Well, I mean, you're just a rookie without practice. I can't imagine the Village would teach you more than the basics?"
She was merely guessing at that, having been raised far away from the Village of Beginnings as it was! With their game soon wrapped up, and Syre sorting out the pieces and the board back into the box, her ear gave a twitch. Well, there was a spirit wielder in the club, so she wasn't completely in the dark about it: "Well, they're humans who can take the forms of Digimon through... spirit items, I guess? Something about using the data of ancient Digimon or something, I don't entirely know the specifics."
Perhaps Syre wasn't the best to figure out all of this from! Putting the board away - and briefly looking over the other games - she'd try and shoot a question right back at him: "So, um... what do you think?" The cat gave a nervous laugh: "You seemed so tense when you first came to us - but you're so nice! Is everything alright?"

With a response that raised more questions and the pace of putting the board game away, Syre had caught the Renamon off guard with her follow up question. Clearing his throat, the young fox stammered;
"O-oh, it's nice." he fidgeted with his hands a bit, that same nervous quirk he unknowingly inherited from his mother. He didn't want to offend or bother, or even fluster her with compliments about how nice it was. Instead, he simply gave the simple answer before continuing the next part of her question.
Was everything alright? Was it ever? It seemed like, even in his short time, there was always something to be dealt with. First growing out of his shell and into a Renamon, then dealing with those who would exploit weaker Digimon, then the end goal of finding his parents. Honestly, he was still taken aback by how quickly it happened and how everything he thought was turned on it's head. His father and mother were not the cretins he believed. His idea on how strength worked was torn asunder and now he didn't even have to worry about where his next meal would come from. He had to process everything. He only patted her head, as he might to those young digimon in the wild.
"Yeah... I'm fine, Syre. Let's go find Dad, yeah?"
He'd follow her, she undoubtedly had an infinite better understanding of the tower than he!

Siris was a shy one, wasn't he! Despite being a brute of the forest, he held a certain tenderness - not wanting to intrude on even the most innocent things. That nervous tick was enough to earn a bit of a chuckle from the younger sister, quickly proving to be far more brash than the older brother. Still, that last bit was curious - why was he so eager to see dad?
"I... guess? He should still be in his office!" Helpful with that much, she'd direct and lead him down the hall, right to Dr. Mikemon's office - and as the door opened, the Renamon would find the cat behind the desk, scratching a pen away at formal stationary underneath. Hearing the door open, he looked up, and gave a smile. "Ah, perfect timing - here, give this a read. Careful, don't bend it." He passed the paper over to the Renamon. "A response letter to the Skies."
Sir Damocles,
We are in receipt of the letter addressed to the Renamon, Siris. Though we are flattered by your invitation, as Siris' guardian, we must respectfully decline your invitation for his position in the Knight's Concord. As you know, it is any Digimon's choice whether or not to respond to these invitations.
Still, we do not wish to burn this bridge. Should Siris ever choose to join the order, I trust that you will welcome him with open arms. For now, please correct the records of 'unclaimed' and note that Doctor Mikemon, Medical Expert and Councilman of Whtiewater, assume responsibility for Siris' guardianship.
Best regards, Dr. Mikemon. His signature was already paired with an indented stamp - but after Siris would be done reading, he'd direct him to the other side of the desk. "They won't accept it unless there's a signature from yourself as well - let me see the mark. A sketch of that should suffice."

With a sigh of relief the only response he gave to Syre as she suggested where Mikemon would be. With a wave of his paw, he gestured to lead the way. It was her home after all!
As he approached, his father was more than happy to see them as he had just finished a response to Luminas, then handed it to him. Siris gently took the letter and gave it a once over, then nodded. Truth be told, he only understood about half of the letter as it used words in Digital Script he wasn’t fully educated on. But rather than ask, he gave another nod.
Then came the request about his symbol. The symbol of his heritage. Something his mother shred. He gave a small fidget of his hands before slipping the sleeve off to show it.
”What does it mean?”
He asked as he kept his wrist turned, exposing the symbol so his father could better draw it. He was concerned that they might think his mother signed, given she had the same symbol. But either way, it was dealt with. With another sigh, Siris leaned;
”Do you have any books on them? The... Knight guys?”
There was that habitual fidgeting again!

Sheesh...
"It really is just like your mother's symbol. Hold still, just for a sec." Carefully, Mikemon would sketch that symbol onto the letter, his ear flicking gently at Siris' question. "Its a response letter, telling them that we are politely denying their request to have you join the Knights' Order. Technically we don't need to send this at all... but I'd rather not ruin this precious relationship you have already."
It didn't take long - and Mikemon had already sent for a courier. With the letter finished, just as Mikemon would place that wax seal, there would already be a peck at the window - a Hawkmon standing by, with a similar mail bag around his shoulder. Giving a smile, the cat handed him off the letter, the bit payment, and a tip, before the bird would make his way back off into the sky.
"Hm? Well, sure. I don't keep much on history in my office itself, but..." He pulled open a drawer, and wrote down a reference number, handing it to the Renamon. "If we have anything, it'll be in that back-left section. Its nice to see that you're curious about it already, though!"
He gave a laugh, and even stood on the desk, giving his son a pat on the shoulder. "For now, though? Get some sleep - exciting or not, I know today's had to be a bit stressful on you. We'll worry about what you want to do going forward tomorrow, alright?"

With all that happened today, between finding his father, meeting his sister and getting this letter to the Skies, Siris had not paid attention to how quickly he was losing his energy. It was as if by his father saying, he became keenly aware of his growing fatigue. With a yawn to emphasize his father's point, he nodded;
"Okay, where am I sleeping?"
He asked almost with a tinge of guilt in his voice as he would look around nervously, trying to ease the situation he believed existed, taking note of the many decorations around his father's office. Where would he sleep? Syre said herself this was more of a 'dormitory' than anything, and someone would need that room to stay in while they worked or studied here. He would take a couch or even a bed in a closet rather than be a burden! With a nervous smile, he would wait for his father's answer on where he'd be bunking for the night, maybe even the foreseeable future!
"If you want me to sleep elsewhere I can manage on my own..." his voice was a little sheepish from his own guilt of being a burden! Or atleast, so he believed.
He certainly was a timid one in this aspect!

Well, well - finally tired out? Seeing Siris' yawn, Mikemon returned a chuckle. "Careful there - you'll end up getting me tired." The question was fair, of course - and until Siris' room was set up, he'd have to make do:
"If you go out of my office and turn right, you'll see the hall open up on the left to a common room. You can't miss it, there's long sofas and everything. I'll try and get a room set up for you, but just for tonight, could you crash there?" He wasn't going to kick his son back out into the rain, of course! Assuming that would work, Mikemon would return a small nod.
"Sleep well, son." Picking up another paper, the doctor would start to scratch through that with a heavy pen. For him, it seemed like a long night...

With a seldom nod and a nervous smile, the young fox did as instructed, turn right hall opens to a common room. Simple enough to find but for a common room it was... empty, save one Digimon hard work studying in the corner. Siris figured most people were either in bed or studying in their own respective dormitories. He didn't bother to speak to the diligent worker and took a deep sigh as he laid on the couch, putting his feet up and giving another yawn. With the only blanket his coat of fur, Siris gently accept the warm embrace of unconsciousness, silently falling asleep on the couch.
"You belong to no-one"
A voice from behind the door. Siris sighed as he rolled out of the couch and looked around. The Digimon had left and he was alone... not even the light from the fireplace was to be found. He stepped around the couch as he heard a gentle breathing behind the door, and with it, the voice spoke again;
"You are not wanted here. You'll never be wanted anywhere. Mikemon isn't even your father!"[/i]
The Renamon's chest began to rapidly rise and fall, he quickly pushed the door to confront the individual who was speaking down to him. But found nothing. Just a coat rack. He sighed, and turned around, figuring it was just his own head and that more sleep would solve it. But as he turned, a skull-faced fox demon stood just inches from him! Siris lurched back, but the demon's movements were like a simple flinch. It blocked him from making an escape and soon it grabbed his head, digging it's sharp, bony fingers into his skull as his roared in a very distorted voice;
"Behold your heritage
Siris squinted his eyes as he could only scream against the demon's onslaught and with that, came him shooting up from the couch he called a bed. The scream carrying into the common room as he looked around, panting and nervous. The poor pup had a nightmare... but it felt so real. Still in shock, he sniffed a bit, trying to keep his tears from showing his emotions and with a little time left, he would try to lay back down. Provided no-one came in to check on him. Should they, however, they'd find the teary eyed fox trying to hide his emotions and waving them off, even if it was his father.
What was that?

Siris' sleep might have been restless - but at the very least, he was safe, home, warm, and out of the rain. Unfortunately, even resting in the common room, there wouldn't be anyone around to simply check on him in the middle of the night. His own nightmares would be held to himself, left to stew over those long hours into the morning...
Maybe he'd finally get some sleep. As the clock on the wall would finally pass 8:00 in the morning, Siris might notice someone pulling at his foot. Standing right at the foot of the couch was the BlackGatomon - the kitten that she was, she had already been up for a bit. She'd been told to let her brother try and sleep in, but surely this was early enough?
"Nii-san?" The cat's words carried up, the BlackGatomon giving a curious tilt of the head. If he'd stir awake, she'd give a somewhat concerned, yet curious expression. "Didn't you sleep well? Sorry - with how late it was last night, dad didn't have time to set up another bunk."
She was completely oblivious to his nightmare, of course!
