Wrong Place, Right Time Part 2 (Johan/Buck)
|

After a while of the train ride, the "train" came to a stop at what looked like another train terminal. As it was stopping, Buck was asking Johan and Dokamon all sorts of questions, as well as sounding like he just drank ALL of the coffee.
"Can you please speak actual words?" Dokamon politely asked Buck. Then Buck mentioned something about needing to get home for dinner.
"You will not need to worry about getting home on time," Dokamon states. "Digital World time doesn't work like human world time. A week here will be an hour in the human world, for example."
"Wow... that is incredibly bizarre."
And then Buck asked a pretty good question: would he get a Digimon companion as well? "Well... Buck, is it? If you have a Digivice, then you should be getting a Digimon partner as well!"

"Sweet!" Was the kid's response to being told he, too, would be let in on this secret of other worlds and cute little talking animal-type-things. "But, uh... how does that work, anyway? Do I have to fill out an application or go someplace or-" He held up his digivice. "-push up, down, left, right, A, B or what?"
By the time Buck had the sense to string enough words together to ask that, the train was slowing down and pulling into the station.
Digimon were everywhere.
The eager young boy's nose was glued to the window like a kid looking inside to a candy store, at least if the candy was various creatures of many shapes, sizes, and mixes of species. This sight seemed to completely draw Buck's attention away from the question he himself had just asked. "Holy... Toto?" Buck was referring to Dokamon there. "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore!" But the true shock was when the train came to a stop. It seemed that at this stop there was a Kapurimon napping on a bench... just beside a paper sign that had written on it Bucky Garnier. "What the... guys? Come see this!"

Dokamon was EXTREMELY confused when Buck called him Toto. "My name is Dokamon. Do-ka-mon. And what is Kansas?"
Johan laughed at this scenario. "Buck, Dokamon doesn't get movie references. Hell, he won't even watch a movie with me... or do anything remotely fun."
Dokamon dismissed that comment from Johan as he rolled his eyes. He turned around to Buck to answer his question. "Press the center-most button on the Digivice. That will help fully activate it, and it will give you direction on where your partner most likely is."
Apparently, that was not entirely needed, as Buck began calling the others to what seemed to be a... Kapurimon? "Hey, that looks like Dokamon's in-training form..."
"Indeed it does..." Before Buck could ask what that meant, Dokamon explained more to him. "There are six to seven levels to Digimon: from weakest to strongest, there's Fresh, In-Training, Rookie, Champion, Ultimate, Mega, and in some cases, Super Mega. This Digimon here, Kapurimon, is an In-Training, and I myself am a Rookie."

"Hey, cool! I actually understood some of those words!" It seemed Buck at this point was no longer listening very closely his eyes were glued on the sign and the digimon napping beside it. As the train halted and people of both kinds began to crowd around the door, the little guy fought admirably hard to make sure he was at the front. Come on, come on, come on, he urged the doors with a big grin of excitement and wide eyes of curiosity.
Once the Trailmon finally let passengers off, the excitable boy left his comrades in the dust and ran straight for the bench with the Kapurimon beside his own name. "Hey! Hiya! So, uh, you were expecting me? Cool! Umm, whoa, this is weird, but cool at the same time, you know?" By contrast, the sleeping digimon showed much less interest in Buck. In fact, it didn't even wake up!

As soon as Dokamon realized that Buck wasn't even LISTENING to him anymore, his eyes widened and he fell backwards, like those characters from an anime. Immediately getting back up, he yelled more. "Hey! What I'm saying is truly important!"
Suddenly, Johan put his right hand on Dokamon's head. "Ah, don't make a fuss about it. He's probably just excited about meeting his partner. Don't take it personally."
"...let go of my head," Dokamon grumbled. Chuckling nervously, Johan complied and removed his hand from Dokamon's head.
Buck ran as fast as the Flash as soon as the Trailmon let the passengers out, meaning Johan and Dokamon had to catch up to him! As soon as they came up, they noticed the Kapurimon sleeping on the bench.
"Hey, that's Dokamon's in-training form!"
"Indeed it is... however, this one appears to be in a deep sleep." Dokamon walked up to the Kapurimon and began shaking it a bit.

"I don't know if that's a good...-" It was no use. Dokamon was already shaking the sleeping digimon by the time Buck understood his intent and thought to stop it. And yet, through it, the little digimon did not awaken, nor did it even stir... at first. But Buck gasped a little when he saw the digimon scrunch its eyes, then open them about halfway. The boy didn't even seem to care that the helmeted digimon was clearly not thrilled about being awoken.
However, he was surprisingly polite about it. "I'm just waiting for someone," he spoke in a monotone voice that didn't betray any sort of emotion. He then turned away from Johan and Dokamon, shut his eyes, and tried to go right back to sleep. He seemed to get the message that the others weren't leaving, though, so after some seconds he again opened his eyes and asked, "Can I help you?"
The fact that the Kapurimon wasn't running up to Buck like a dog looking for snuggles seemed to finally break Buck's high excitement and the hyperactive mood he'd gotten himself into because of it. Instead, he waved politely, smiled like an old friend, and more calmly introduced himself, "Hi. I'm uh, Buck. Buck Garnier. That's my name on your sign."
Finally, this seemed to pique the Kapurimon's attention. He looked the boy up and down, obviously judging him. Then, he issued his verdict. "Nice try. Tamers are strong and capable. Kids shouldn't play pretend with it." Then back to his nap he returned. This seemed to completely stun Buck. He knew he was who said he was but had no way to prove it - none that he thought of anyway.

"Hmmm..." Dokamon smiled to himself as Kapurimon began to wake up, stopping the shaking as he did so. The two of them watched as Buck talked with his partner the first time, a charming moment...
...that was immediately shattered. As soon as the Kapurimon said "Nice try," both Johan and Dokamon went completely white with disbelief. Neither of them could say they were expecting that at all. Buck was probably feeling that same emotion, only multiplied by ten.
"Uh... that's no problem," Johan responded, trying to sound positive. "We can just find a way to prove that you are who you say you are!"
"And how are you going to do THAT, exactly?" Dokamon asked skeptically as he raised an eyebrow- if he had any.
"Well, I doubt Buck has any I.D., and if he did I doubt that any Digimon would buy that... wait! I know! Show Kapurimon your Digivice!"

"The digi- Oh, right!" The boy began to fumble through all of his pockets, but apparently came up empty. That made Buck unshoulder his backpack and begin ruffling through his books, pencils, and loose papers - all while the Kapurimon looked on with one lazily-opened eye. Where had he put that dumb machine? Not the bag, apparently, because the boy then desperately pat his own back pockets, then front pockets, and finally stopped there. "...whoops." Apparently he had been so hasty that he missed the machine in his front pocket the first go-around. But now that he'd found it again, he withdrew it. "How'd you say this works again? Press the center button, then..." Buck did as he was told, making the D-3 light up and beep, showing there was indeed life in the machine.
But something else happened, too: the little digimon's eyes went wide. Then, his whole body glowed a bright white that almost made Buck had to look away. That was when the glow began to change shape, even grow! Buck was captivated by the sight, but apparently very few passers by actually found this event to be even remotely interesting. The boy's eyes were wide in wonder at the sight of watching the Kapurimon's digivolution. The digimon that took its place, however, was not a Dokamon.
The Bearmon left where a Kapurimon had been sitting was finally wide awake. He quickly sat up and examined his new body, apparently just as amazed by it as Buck was. "Did I just- whoa! That is so cool!"
For a while, Bearmon was speechless. He inspected Buck again after finishing with himself and seemed to be regarding the boy in a new light. Then he issued a new verdict. "Hm. You are him," the Bearmon observed matter-of-factly.
