"Once we go home, remind me to pack a flashlight," was the first request Evie could think to make, as the twins ventured down a barren street. Green eyes lifted to look toward a lantern that flickered with life, hanging in front of a boarded up shack. While normally curious, for once, the teen decided that she would almost rather think that it had magically lit itself!
It was unlikely that Evie would greatly enjoy a conversation with someone residing in the tiny building. If anyone even did.
Still, the twins continued their walk, occasionally turning their heads to look toward the sounds of scuffling feet, or who-knew-what, that sometimes seemed to take place. "I get a feeling a flashlight isn't bright enough for this place," Elsie pointed out, crossing her arms. "But there's gotta be something cool here to check out, right?"
To this, Evie gave a shrug. She had no idea what things were found in the Digital World! For all the blonde knew, it was more boring than the real world! "Uncertain. I'm thinking more about the chances of us getting robbed," she stated, casually, while giving a shrug. Did Digi-Muggers exist? It was always possible! And, 'tourists' in a 'shady' area would be prime targets!
Continuing on the path, the girls kept talking about little subjects, not seeming to get too loud, nor too quiet. As the road began to fork, the twins found themselves standing in front of yet another boarded building, with old posters shoddily stamped to the outer walls, large chunks missing from anything that could have once given them a title to the plays that were advertised. The board above their head held similar fashion, most words missing aside from, "WI--E- THE MUS---L," which could only leave the twins guessing.
"Wide The Mussels?" Elsie uttered, scrunching her nose. She had never been particularly good at these games.
Giving an exasperated sigh, Evie winced at the terrible guess. "You're-- Missing letters?" Where did she even start? "Why Mussels, Elsie?"
Letting out a snort, the wild-haired girl shrugged her shoulders and rapidly shook her head. "I don't know. Plays get stupid names all the time." Like Hamlet or something. Elsie would even bet that ham was never even a part of the play!
"I would estimate that word is 'musical,'" the prim-and-proper sibling commented, looking at the other word for a moment. "Maybe that one about witches and Oz? Do Digimon use our plays?"
"Maybe Digimon write our plays. Who cares anyway? I want to see if there's any popcorn." And, with that, Elsie was already looking for a way in! Which, considering the state of the exterior of the building, it didn't take much effort to find an area of the door that hadn't been boarded, or closed, properly!
Evie didn't want to think about what the popcorn might look like inside of a theater like this. It had to be stale, if even still in-tact! Yet, she wouldn't leave her sister there to get food poisoning! So, she soon followed after the teen, into the lobby of the building. Which, unsurprisingly, was in about the same state of disarray as the outside.
Even more expected, "I don't see any popcorn." Well, darn. An adventure wasted! Though, already being in the barely lit building, the teen figured that not all could be lost! "Wanna help me find the way to the backroom, to see if there's any candy left?"
Oh joy, stale candy, too! Still, the idea that maybe something made of pure sugar wouldn't expire quite so easily was enough to convince Evie to let the exploration continue. "Sure. But if there are spiders in it, you're not eating any of it."
"Deal." Nobody wanted to eat spiders, after all!
Unless they did.
Either way, the twins began to venture down the empty hall of the theater, debating the best room to check first.

Old Terminus... a cozy place, isn't it? There was something about the dusty ruins and the barely inhabited neighborhoods that made this place comfortable. It could be the darkness, or the fact that there was this damp coldness that more or less was everpresent at all times during.
Or maybe it was the fact there was this strange air of secrecy that veiled the actions of the ones who had the power to carry them out. There was no law, nobody butting their faces on what wasn't their business and... strangers could disappear at any moment and nobody would ask awkward questions.
Not like Stridermon could answer those questions, either! Guess that being unable of both speech and hearing had its good side. It was definitely a convenience, not having to bear with those muffled screams for help or pleas to 'stop'. Could it be blamed, however? Like any living being, the monster needed to feed; and that paltry human... couldn't provide it enough sustenance.
So here it was, slinking from one meal to the next, waiting for a... pretty curious ensemble to show up. Truth was that, as annoying that was, there was a pact of sorts it had to fulfill, and that involved a little bit of nudging. Ancient allies were hard to come by, even at the expense of such a taxing endeavor.
Luckily, the digimon wouldn't have to wait much. Figures that it hadn't sensed ever, but that were all too familiar made their presence known nearby a big structure that most beings capable of sight used every now and then for entertainment.
Not-so silently, the figure followed the two girls; after all, it wouldn't be as entertaining if they didn't know something wasn't quite... right. Maybe a third pair of footsteps sounding every now and right behind them, or suspicious skittering sound; the kind of thing that would make them look over their shoulders, just to see that there was nothing.
Eventually, the two of them would enter the building. The creaking of the wooden planks that made the ceiling would resonate every now and then as Elsie and Evie advanced forward, culminating in a single gesture.
As they in front of the backroom's door, a single wooden plank corresponding to the ceiling would fall right in front of the door, at a relatively safe distance from them with a loud creak, shattering and revealing a fair bit of cobwebs and a small swarm of spiders skittering around, apparently alarmed at the shock.
But... that was just a coincidence. There was nothing actually happening inside the theater. The twins were safe, right?
Right.

Completely oblivious to the attention that the duo had acquired, they continued their exploration of the area. With the occasional creak from ceiling boards, Evie would throw a glance up, just to make sure nothing was going to come crashing down on their heads. While it wasn't quite too spooky to set off warning alarms for the horror buff, the girl still wanted to make sure the building wasn't going to collapse on them! That would just be unpleasant!
"Do you think it would be wise for us to be using our," there was a pause, while Evie struggled to bring herself to use such a 'nonsense' word, "Digimon forms while in this world?" Digimon. What a weird word. It felt like something made up by someone horribly uncreative. Evie wasn't a fan. Maybe she'd get used to it after some time.
Just like, maybe, Elsie would get used to being one! "They feel weird," she commented, with a scrunch of her nose, "I don't wanna." Yet, there was a slight pressure to use it when she swore she heard footsteps behind her! Turning to look to her sister, the wild-haired girl tried to brush off the goosebumps, noticing that Evie wasn't even walking when the sound was made.
Surely, they were just a little paranoid. It was a new world to them, after all! It was totally rational to be a little on-edge!
"Eeek!" Maybe 'a little' on-edge was an understatement! Despite being a good distance away, the board falling had certainly made its impact! Within a second, Elsie was clinging to her sister, arms wrapped tightly around her completely-still twin's waist.
"Oh," Evie stated, flatly, while staring at the mess that had been made. "Spiders." Blinking slowly, the prim-and-proper teen lowered her gaze to the sibling that was holding onto her for dear life, "I suspect that's a sign that your candy is bad."
Good concern.
Feeling her face grow hot from embarrassment, Elsie let out a huff and straightened her posture, awkwardly dusting off her shirt despite it not being dirty. "Pssh!" She exhaled, taking a few brave stomps closer to the spiders, "That doesn't mean nothing! They're just-- uh!"
"Infesting the food supply and going to crawl all over you," Evie decided to fill in, as it was obvious that Elsie had no argument.
Giving off a, "hmph," the red-eyed teen puffed her cheeks, dramatically turning her body to face a set of double doors. Eyes lit up, trying to think of what was behind the old doors. "Do you think that's the stage room?!"
"I don't think that's what it's called."
"It's a stage room now!" Elsie insisted, with another huff, "And I bet it's cool!" Shoving against the doors, the teen hurried into the auditorium, hopes high for something less cobweb-y.
For a moment, Evie paused, green eyes flickering back to the board and spiders, suppressing a creeping dread of a horror movie coming to life. "Right. Let's go stand on a rickety stage," the blonde mumbled under her breath, "I'm sure it won't break at all."
Sure. They were totally safe.

Advancing into the auditorium, huh? Well, that had definitely been a bold move. Or a very stupid one, especially in the face of those not-so-subtle hints that had been thrown rather obviously in front of the twins.
That sprang a couple of questions on Stridermon's mind; were these two really that foolhardy? Or was there something else? While the argument of humans being reckless just because was probably correct, maybe those two girls felt that pull; the very essence of the link that brought the fleshbags and digimon spirits together. Stridermon knew how compelling that could be; after all, that was the weapon it had used in order to lure its current host; to say the least, its power couldn't be underestimated.
Yet, the digimon was here, its intent to help —could that even be called helping?— a pair of ancient allies. To lead them in the correct direction. And, maybe... to indirectly deem if they were worthy wielders or not.
After all, it wasn't like the aberration would refuse a free meal in case they weren't.
Thus, Stridermon kept on 'silently' following the twins, even if this time, something being amiss would be fairly obvious discern. Given its abilities, neither Elsie nor Evie would be able to see their stalker, but the 'footsteps' behind them would resonate louder the more they advanced towards the stage, sometimes even coming as close as to feel right behind them, just to get away instants afterward.
As exciting as this could get, Stridermon wasn't the type to milk its victims' fear to the last drop, so this ruse would end soon. If the twins either got on the stage or if they suddenly had second thoughts and decided to escape using the same door they had used to enter, a loud bashing would let them known that wasn't an option anymore; rubble and debris blocking the path were the only things to be seen where the door had formerly stood.
There, they'd realize they were trapped, and that they had walked directly into the maws of whatever had been stalking them. Question was, what they would do about it?

Even Evie would have to think that this was probably a very stupid move! With the condition of the building, there was no denying that this place was dangerous! Though, while the blonde assumed it was more on an 'unstable structure' definition of the term, she wasn't entirely wrong with the thought that it was far from safe.
Was there a pull? Did either twin feel such a thing? Or was this simply reckless actions on the part of an ego-fueled sibling that didn't want to admit coming to this building was a poor choice? What had even drawn the duo to honestly want to inspect such an old place? Perhaps, there was something more. But, neither girl would ever quite realize that!
"I think the stage looks safe," Elsie pointed out, still at quite a distance from the structure. So focused on her goal, it seemed that the red-eyed teen either was completely oblivious to the warning signs of something being amiss, or she was completely pushing past them under the assumption that they were just her imagination going wild!
Evie, on the other hand, was all too aware of the hairs standing straight on the back of her neck, and the goosebumps crawling up her arms. "I think we need to go home," she finally responded, as Elsie drew closer to the stage. Glancing out of the corners of her eyes, the paranoid sibling attempted to catch a glimpse of whatever was causing this unease. But, nothing came into her sights. Was she really just going crazy from the atmosphere?
No matter how she tried to justify it, the prim-and-proper twin couldn't help but feel as though they were being hunted.
"You're being a pansy," Elsie snickered, with a shake of her head, "where's your courage? All that risk taking and stuff that you love to do?"
"That's calculated. This is stepping into a beast's den."
"Dra-ma-tic," Elsie clicked, flashing a grin, "nobody's here! We'd have seen them by now! You're just being a chic--" Placing her hands on the stage to lift herself onto it, red eyes flickered back to see Evie turning with intent to leave.
And then, it seemed everything came crashing down.
With a bang, both twins jumped, watching their exit disappear behind a pile of rubble. Now, Evie shot a glare toward her reckless twin. "A beast's den," she repeated, slowly.
"Dr-amatic?" What had been a taunt before was now a question, trying to shake off the thought that maybe something actually was wrong here! And, while Elsie was unsure of if they should even react, Evie wasn't going to wait.
With a soft electronic hum emitting from one of the twin's digivices, the green eyed sibling quickly lost height, turning to a far more digital form. The Offmon reached up toward its goggles, debating its move choices.
"What are you doing?" the still-humanoid twin snapped, incredulously. "Stop being a weird, little animal-thing, and let's get out of here!"
"And, how do you anticipate to do that without a door?" Then, there was a pause, still holding the goggles with a jacket-covered paw. Was the building even structurally safe enough to zap the stuff that blocked their exit? Or, would it make things worse? "I don't even know why I let you bring me here."
Jumping off the stage, Elsie moved to try to grab her now-very-unmatching sister before she could attempt to use any attacks on anything. "You're being crazy! Nothing's here! There is nothing here! We don't need to be all crazy and break stuff! Just breathe and think about human ways to stop being stuck in a totally-safe room!"
Just who was Elsie trying to convince that this room could even be considered remotely safe, at this point? Was either twin actually buying that?

Wonderfully innocent, weren't they? Or, at least one of them was; as long as that one kept pulling the other to worse and worse decisions, the rest didn't matter at all. How they seemed relatively unpreoccupied by their situation despite what was happening being stupidly obvious was perplexing, but it wasn't like Stridermon would dwell on that for too long.
They were undoubtedly lucky; had this been a real threat, chances were that this would be the duo's last trip to the Digital World. Such recklessness couldn't be tolerated; this would be a lesson for them.
A harsh lesson, given how one of the two humans hadn't even adopted a form that couldn't be ruptured in a couple of seconds with minimal effort. Humans were frail; that was the first teaching the digimon would impart.
As if to announce itself, Stridermon's body would become progressively translucent as it advanced through the ceiling. This time, its movements weren't stealthily, its intent being obvious; what was coming from them was real, and they better prepare for it.
Excitement coursed through the aberration's mind as its entire mass fell from the ceiling directly in front of the twins. Now, fully visible, the sound of tendrils and lattices grinding against each other filled the immediate air around them.
Suddenly, a recollection of those extended forward, and from the tip of the makeshift limb, a stream of concentrated flames roared, its mark being the spirit wielder duo.
That had been a bit of a telegraphed, overly showy attack; something that Stridermon didn't fancy, but its goals here weren't to char two fleshbags, as enticing as that notion was. Sure, the attack was relatively powerful, but if it actually managed to land a direct it, they probably deserved being deleted.

Innocence would surely be the downfall of at least one of the twins. At least the other was willing to pay attention to their surroundings! The other one, though? Still seemed to be in denial that this was a bad situation. "Hey, uh, Eves? What's that thing?"
"Not safe," Evie pointed out, flatly. And bigger than them. And-- oh. Capable of fire! Yeah, this wasn't a friend of any sort!
It was definitely a good thing that, unbeknownst to the twins, this wasn't an entirely dangerous fight. The little Offmon bounced back, finding her sibling in the way of backtracking too far. Luckily, feeling the heat of flames was enough for a rapid transformation from the less-vigilant sibling, who quickly dropped in size. "I don't get how it's better to be small!" Elsie huffed, stumbling back from her sibling's insistent attempts to shove her sibling away from the fire.
And, perhaps, that would be the only time that Evie tried to ensure the safety of her sister, as she felt flames lap over digital skin. Luckily, it made her sibling process that she really needed to move, and at least kept one of the siblings from getting singed! Biting her tongue, Evie continued to back away from the flames, once Elsie had finally moved to safety. Pulling her goggles down, the Offmon huffed. "Patch," she mumbled, still trying not to whine about the burns that had been inflicted. And, with such a magic word, a beam of energy shot off from the goggles, aimed for their foe!
Elsie, on the other hand, still wasn't processing how to handle the situation. Instead of fighting, she rushed back onto the stage, searching for some sort of escape for the duo. But, the only thing the Hackmon seemed to be finding were progressively fragile floorboards! Maybe, they could escape from under the stage? Or, would Elsie find that the stage wasn't as hollow as she hoped?
Dense as she was, she wouldn't test this with an attack, and instead jumped upward, planning to land on the floorboards with a heavy thud, to see if anything would give way.

Camaraderie. Or sisterhood, maybe? Truth was that what had pushed the obviously-smarter sister to help her peer that was apparently too dumb to live was praiseworthy to an extent, even if that had resulted in the Offmon sustaining easily-avoided injuries.
The action itself brought mixed feelings to Stridermon; on one side, the fact that one cared so deeply about the other to the point of weathering pain to get them out of harm's way was something akin to commendable. Yet, on the other side, the human that proceeded to evolve to Hackmon looked like the obvious weak link. It could sense it; disbelief, hesitation, and not even enough hostility to face the being that had so obviously harmed somebody potentially dear to her, and going as far as to leave her alone with an obviously stronger opponent.
Relatively useless, in comparison. And dragging down somebody who could be a fine being on her own.
Enough of that, however. Thoughts had a time and a place, and while this was entertaining on its own, Siftermon had other plans; advancing relentlessly, she took the laser beam directed its way head-on. It did little to slow it down, and while some damage had been sustained, the lack of distractions would probably ensure that the gap between the two beings had promptly been closed.
Unceremoniously, the tendrils that comprised the aberration's arms knotted and grew, transforming into living maces that proceeded to try and maul Evie.
While relatively soft, the attack would probably cause a fair amount of pain to a rookie level; but that was probably not the attack's true intent. Even on the slightest of contacts, including near misses, the Offmon would hear a raspy, deep voice inside her head.
Why bother for her?
You are better off alone.
She has abandoned you.
Run while you can.
She is useless.
Leave her.
Give her to me. What about Elsie?
Well, let's say that she was being a little more successful at finding a potential escape route than Evie at fighting that aberration at the moment! The stage looked relatively frail, but the Hacknon would probably need more weight than her own in order to collapse the floor. Maybe a little help from the two fighters that weren't far away? With any luck, that'd suffice!

To watch the opponent fail to even flinch at her attack was more than a little disheartening. A small, "tch," escaped from the Offmon's mouth. What was the next best choice of action? Was there a best choice? Surely, their only option wouldn't be to lie down and die, right?
Meanwhile, Elsie was huffing at the stage. She could feel the boards give somewhat at her weight, but it just wasn't enough! And, it wasn't like she wanted to draw the attention of the big, angry whatever-Evie-was-fighting by using a legitimate attack on the stage! Not that she was confident in her ability to do so, anyway!
Though, maybe, getting the heat off of Evie would have been a good idea! While the Offmon was doing a decent job at evading the sudden maces that had formed from their opponent's arms, every dodge seemed a little slower. Was it exhaust or... these strange thoughts clouding her judgement? Nose scrunched, trying not to overthink. In a way, it was just making the teen angry. In another, it was making her angry with Elsie. One of them was working their butt off to keep the other safe. And she was going to end up with broken bones to prove for it, at this rate!
It was a tiring thought.
Enough so that the girl found one of the hits connecting. Perhaps, if she had encountered a fight like this before, she would have realized that the eldritch horror was holding back. But, instead, she found herself stumbling and growing even more frustrated. "Why do you want her?" The question was eerily quiet for someone that was dealing with the adrenaline of a battle. Something that her sibling couldn't hear from the distance. "If she's useless, what's the point?"
This surely couldn't be as cliche as a monster under the bed, wanting to eat the defenseless child, right?
Either way, Elsie belonged to Evie, as far as this creature was concerned. It didn't matter the level of the girl's use.
"Na, Eve!" Of course, any thoughts further on this were brought to a halt. And, perhaps, was proof enough that Elsie wasn't going to abandon her sibling. "How long are you gonna play over there? Little help?" Maybe the extra weight of a second rookie bouncing on the wood would help break it! Or, at least, that was Elsie's thought process! Nobody could expect the girl to think about intentionally bringing the fight to the stage!
"I'm busy," Evie puffed, already inching her way back to the stage. It wasn't like there was much for her to lose! She was already failing at this fight! "But, sure, I'd love to help." Was that sarcasm? It sounded like a ton of it! But, Elsie wouldn't be crushed by the weight of words, when she was too busy trying to crush the stage instead!
Yet, she could give her sister some help, couldn't she? With a little thinking, the eye on the Hackmon's hood flickered brightly. "Strange Hack," she announced, as a blast of energy shot from the hood, aimed at the creature harassing her sister.
Which, with any luck, would prove distraction enough to let Evie jump to the stage before Stridermon would attempt its next strike!

Even when being rather lenient, it was expected for the Offmon to be unable to keep up with a digimon that was considerably more powerful than her. A losing fight, even if she wouldn't go down so easily. Whether due to determination or plain stubbornness, Stridermon couldn't but commend such act; maybe she wasn't aware of it, but it took a fair amount of courage to stand up in the face of overwhelming odds.
Evie would probably get far... assuming she didn't get killed first due to that very reason.
The aberration could sense the growing frustration coming from the small digimon; the delightful, evergrowing desperation was exhilarating. It could say that it was truly enjoying itself at playing its role on this small play.
Kinda funny how that was the case despite their usually pragmatic nature, wasn't it?
Tendrils began to weave and contort, the rhythm of the melee reaching a crescendo; would its opponent be able to keep up, both with the blows that were being exchanged and their... conversation for the lack of a better word? How she tried to rationalize her intentions was honestly intriguing, and the effort she mustered made Stridermon consider on entertaining that question.
Upon further contact, Evie would feel that this time the messages penetrated deeper into her mind; they were both more regal and commanding, but she probably couldn't shake the feeling that something was inherently off About them.
Your body has yet to mature. But your mind is strong.
An image of something far greater than that little Offmon would flood the digimon's mind. Somebody who could both command respect and wield power and authority. Somebody above the rabble that made most of the digital world. An individual worth way more than the average citizen of the Digital World.
Her growth will forever be stunted. She will drag you down.
Many opportunities where Evie could fulfill those plans that were ruined by what was perceived as her less-than-capable sibling were shown next. Always a reckless act. always a rash decision. Always the same result; weeks, months, or even years of careful plans directly to the trash.
I can sense it. You are smart; you are a planner. She is reckless and rash. Would you be losing a fight where the stakes are your life, had not it been for her?
Of course, the digimon had noticed how they were slowly treading towards the stage and had a fair notion of what would happen then. Of course, playing along was the best part about it. For the twins, the plan would go all too well, maybe even conspicuously so. Could they complain about it, however?
One thing was for sure, though. If the attacks that they intended to throw in her way had the intention to injure Stridermon, or at least make it recoil, the duo had to try way harder. Either using stronger attacks or working as a team could maybe do the trick.
But... that was asking for too much, probably?

How long would Evie be able to stand against this terror? It was frankly tiring. Whatever was going on in her head was tiring. Being inexperienced in fights was tiring. These words.
This monster. Eyes narrowed, placing most of her energy into dodging. The more she felt, the more she heard. The less she wanted to hear. The-- "Help me get us to a safe place!" Right. This was what mattered. Who mattered. How could anyone let a monster try to wear them down? To try to warp reality and shove itself between the siblings? How could Evie have even considered entertaining the idea? It was sickening. Elsie had her back. Even if she was an idiot. And, for that reason, Evie did something that she never thought she would. Turned her back to an enemy. Then, ran. With any luck, the little rookie would make it onto the stage before any heavy hits could land on her. Maybe, it did seem a little too easy. Strangely so. But, Evie wasn't too concerned. This monster wasn't dumb. Maybe, they were playing into a trap. Either way, it may have come off as strange that neither twin had aimed to truly hurt the Digimon that clearly wanted to injure them! After all, a play wasn't a play if the actors weren't all on the stage, right? Would the Eldritch Horror that threatened them notice when Evie's next move, upon climbing the stage to be with her sibling, seemed to fall a little short? Lobbing a ball of crackling energy, the Lazy Switch might have seemed mis-aimed. While it still had a good chance of the electrical pulse catching Stridermon in its range, the 'inexperienced' rookie likely wouldn't directly strike its target! With more of Elsie's moves involving closer quarters, she chose to pull on Evie to drag her a bit further back onto the stage, instead. Surely, the Offmon could feel the wood trying to give out under her feet, also! Was there an escape under the floorboards? Or, something more? They weren't trying to destroy Stridermon. They were trying to destroy the stage.

For a nigh-emotionless horror, the closest to an exhilarating feeling was exactly this; watching as a young soul slowly faltered. Not physically; any brute could do that, especially to a child level. Watching somebody doubt themselves, their ideals and what they held dear, even if for a split second, was a thrill that couldn't be compared. Would the girl in front of her be victim of her own hubris, or would she be able to withstand what was a harsh, yet convincent reality? Even if the aberration would probably not be able to see the end result of its handiwork, one thing could be said for certain.
The seed of doubt had been planted.
Yet, for now... the being's own entertainment was secondary to a more important trial that would befall the sisters. As the Offmon retreated, a pair of stray tendrils would try to slap her around a bit, but even if they hit, they wouldn't have enough force to deter the rookie from reaching its final destination; quickly enough, both digimon would find themselves atop the stage, but not before an attack was lobbed at her.
Funnily enough, it hadn't been a direct attack. More like a calculated distraction? If anything, its intent could be seen rather clearly; the pressure both Offmon and Hackmon were applying on the stage could be noted, especially when Stridermon's mass got on top of it. Not more than five seconds afterward, the rotten floorboards were already giving in at the combined weight of everyone atop, crumbling and collapsing.
What was below? The trap room, obviously; even though things were currently a mess at the underground level. Some deteriorated equipment was sprawled around, along many of the floorboards that had just given in and even a section of the stage's curtains. Had something else fallen along with those items, or maybe hidden within? That was a possibility, even though the aberration couldn't care less about that.
Right now, it was fly or fall for the two girls. Flames began to erupt around Stridermon, engulfing the room slowly, but surely. Soon enough, the relatively cramped space would become an inhabitable inferno.
Time was running out.

It seemed a little strange, didn't it? That even when Evie fled, her opponent didn't do enough damage to cause her to stray from the course. That seemed a little... fishy. But, much like the act of 'attacking' Stridermon once she had gotten on the stage, maybe this was just a play for the larger creature, too. Were they only being played with? Even though the duo had been legitimately trying to survive?
Maybe, this was the way a cat treated mice. The mice never really stand a chance, but the cat occasionally lets them think that they do.
Would the 'escape route' give them more leeway than a normal mouse, though? The stage, as expected, gave way, and everyone found themselves tumbling to the lower level. Maybe, the twins should have prepared a little more for such an event! They certainly couldn't fly!
While Elsie wailed the entire plummet, Evie remained silent, trying to whip her head around to keep a better eye on the monster that would surely come along with them. But, in the process, eyes fell to the curtain coming down with them. Was something sparkling in it? And, upon hitting the ground, she swore there was the sound of a soft thud from something being wrapped in the fabric. Or, it was the sound of her feet hitting the ground.
Even more likely, the sound of Elsie's everything hitting the ground! The poor Hackmon did not have as much planning for her landing, instead falling flat on her back. Oh, that was going to hurt later! "Whyyy?" the Digimon whined, trying to hurry to her feet. Looking around the room, she also had to wonder why was everything suddenly on fire?
"This is fine," the teen stated, as calmly as possible. Oh yes. Definitely fine. Super fine, even. Everything was nice and warm, there was a crazy monster trying to burn them to ashes, and Evie was...
Wait, where was Evie?
Head swiveled to see her sister bolting to the fabric before it could light on fire. And, instead, a different sort of light would encompass the area. "Eves?" Was she hurt? Any flames that had been particularly close to the Offmon seemed to swirl around her for a moment, before dissipating, as a red-clad witch replaced the once-rookie's position. Hands were cupped around another item, held tight to her chest.
Perhaps, this evolution would only further the unspoken discussion with their opponent. Maybe, Evie really was the superior sibling.
But, there was one way of testing that subject, wasn't there? "Na, Elsie," the Champion-level started, strangely calm about the room being on fire. "Catch."
For such a planner, wasn't it awfully reckless that the Witchmon suddenly threw a dimly-colored orb toward her rookie-level sibling? Maybe, she was no better than her twin, after all! And, since Elsie was quick to try to catch the item, would she have an opportunity to prove that reckless and rash could come out victorious?
Would their enemy let Elsie prove that? After all, if the flame-spewing aberration didn't stop her within the next few seconds, it would have to deal with two opponents on a much closer power level.
Who was time running out for? The cat? The mice?
Both?

For an amalgam of tentacles, tendrils, and membranes, Stridermon had managed to fall rather... gracefully, if that word could even be applied. Perks of being able to somewhat bend gravity to its whim definitely paid off in a situation like this, at least when compared to the Offmon and the Hackmon.
Or... just compared to the Hackmon? The aberration had to admit that at least one of the digimons had managed to land somewhat well; the promise among the two girls that had walked into this small test, no less. What that unexpected? Not really, but still something to note. More evidence that supported its initial assessment.
Stridermon would take its sweet time to see what the duo of small digimon would do in regards to the flames engulfing the room —or the everpresent, looming threat itself represented—. Maybe it had been a bit too lenient? This didn't seem like much of a test in hindsight, or maybe Evie had been smart enough to pass for both herself and her sister.
Not something to be pondered at the moment, however. The end result had been no doubt impressive, given that the smarter one had successfully managed to discover what they were supposed to, and that could mean only one thing.
It was time for the kiddie gloves to come off. Thus far, the sisters had managed to get their prize, but that wasn't the entirety of this so-called "test". They had gotten the power but... would they be able to wield it?
Time to find out.
As the fire raged and slowly turned everything in the wooden room to ashes, a more focused and intense stream of flames would be directed right at Elsie, the ability itself at least twice as intense than anything used against Offmon thus far. She was the weakest at the moment, and it was the most fitting way to continue this fight.
Having an real fight instead of bullying weaklings would prove to be entertaining. What if the Hackmon didn't react on time? Well, it'd still be a serious fight... even if against a single opponent rather than two.

While it would surely go unnoticed by Elsie, as she grabbed onto the item -- totem? -- thrown to her, a detail would easily be caught by the sister that had thrown it. The Witchmon looked at the mass of tendrils that had been tormenting them, squinting slightly. While, yes, the next attack was directed at the weaker link... It hadn't actually done anything to stop the Hackmon from grabbing an airborne item! It should have been so easy to swipe it away!
So, why was Elsie holding it right now?
Still, this analysis would surely have to go to the grave with Evie, since she definitely wouldn't admit to her sibling that she had fully intended on risking her sister's ability to protect herself, just to test a theory.
And, it wasn't like either twin would have time to think about it much, even if she had mentioned it. The room was on fire, and surely their chances of escaping before everything turned to ash was lowering by the second. Due to this thought, Evie established there was only one choice for how to handle the situation.
Elsie would find herself wrapped in red -- both from flames and the totem's evolution. While Evie would turn focus on the creature that plagued them. "Earthlin Shards," the witch conjured, as pieces of rocks would form around her, while some seemed to lift from the debris. And, as soon as they were mid-air, they launched toward the enemy. Could it be injured with the sharp items? Would it at least stop the creature from outputting more flames?
More importantly, was Elsie okay?
As far as anything could be seen, there had been a digivolution! But there had also been a lot of fire. Yet, no screams were made. Was the twin too singed to even make a sound?
Once the stream of embers would cease, Matadormon would become visible, kneeling, with its head down. While the attack had clearly done some damage -- burning away parts of the Digimon's flowing fabrics -- it didn't seem that Elsie was dead. But, she certainly wasn't moving, either.
Would Stridermon choose to continue its assault on the freshly evolved Champion that already seemed on its way out of the fight? Or, turn its attention to the one that was clearly trying to get it?
