“Tch!”
Aka had enough of this! This stupid Digimon was making a fool out of them now. The little girl didn’t expect the evil Digimon to be so clever in his approach, but Astamon managed to lay down the unexpected and surpass her expectations. He may have been evil, but she had to admit, she was quite puzzled at the predicament she was in.
Darcmon was finding it hard to keep up. There was no way this Digimon was in the same level as her, no way. He was beyond any of the levels she’s ever been. Did she honestly have a chance, even? Darcmon panted, her sword persistently drawn. This Champion level Digimon refused to let this monster lay one finger on her friend. Aka meant too much to her to ever allow such a thing to happen. The angel like Digimon drew out her sword, flapping her wings as she launched herself at the foe.
However, Astamon was well prepared. The demon Digimon suddenly vanished and appeared behind Darcmon, where he then swiped his foot on her back sending her rolling forward, spiraling to the ground.
The ten year old was less concerned than she was angered by this, causing the Ultimate level Digimon to chuckle coyly. The anger and hatred for Astamon began to boil inside of the ten year old. How could she have been so easily outsmarted by this evil Digimon? Was… Was there something she was doing wrong?
“What’s the matter, “Tamer”?” Astamon mocked. “Getting at the end of your patience already? Why, you’re not even doing any of the work. Why should you get so worked up over this?”
The little girl snarled. She hated to admit it, but Astamon wasn’t wrong. Darcmon was the one fighting, thus she’s the one who needed to get results, not Aka. The little girl glared at her partner intensely, her brown eyes smoldering with rage, mixed with a clear demand. “What are you doing, Darcmon?!” Aka spat, causing the Champion level Digimon to twitch. The tone of voice, the venom coming from it, was quite unbecoming on the ten year old. The little girl stormed over to her partner, and planted at tight, firm grip on the angel’s shoulder. “Digivolve! You’ve digivolved once before, now do it again!”
“But…” Darcmon took a couple steps back, completely taken aback by her partner’s tone. A golden light enveloped the angel, but the scowl remained on the young girl’s face. This was the light that occurred not for Digivolution, but for a reversed Digivolution. Proof of this was her Rookie Level, Calumon in the place of what once was Darcmon. “Aka,” Calumon tried to explain. “It doesn’t work like-”
“I know how it’s supposed to work!” Aka hissed. The young girl clenched a hand around her Digimon partner, and lifted her off the ground so violently the poor creature let out a yelp in pain. “Don’t you care about my safety, Calumon? Don’t you want me to be safe?”
Calumon’s green eyes widened before squinting, a sorrowful gaze expressed in her eyes. “Of course, Aka!” the little Digimon pleaded. “But I can’t Digivolve on my own! You need to help me!”
The little girl unleashed an enraged growl at the Digimon’s response. “Are you saying it’s my fault you can’t Digivolve?!” Calumon’s mouth gaped open at the harsh accusation. Her ears shrank at the bitterness in the young girl’s eyes, and shivered at the bitter cold that came from her voice. Still, the lack of response from the little Digimon meant only one thing: it was true. Calumon did believe that Aka was causing her not to Digivolve. The young girl’s chocolate brown eyes squinted in disdain for the little Digimon. “You are, aren’t you?! You’re blaming me!”
Calumon shook her head at the girl. “Aka…” the little Digimon whimpered softly. “Aka, we shouldn’t fight this Digimon anymore! We can get away from him, and find something else to do!”
The young girl’s eyes widened at the Digimon’s proposal, but not out of the realization Calumon was hoping for. “You,” Aka spoke in a low growling tone. “I’m not the reason you’re not Digivolving. You don’t WANT to Digivolve!” Calumon’s silence and pained expression caused the young girl to release the Digimon from her angered grip and step away in disbelief. “But… But why?” Aka questioned. “You’re a Digimon! Don’t you want to be stronger? Don’t you..?”
“Aka!” Calumon interrupted the young girl’s words. “Please, I’m begging you! Let’s just-”
“No!” Aka retorted, as the young girl wrapped her arms around herself. Calumon whimpered at the unnatural tone in the young girl’s voice. “If you care about getting out of this, succeeding, or me, you will Digivolve, and you will wipe that smirk off of that monster’s face!” The little girl pointed a finger at Astamon, who wasn’t at all displeased with the situation going on in front of him.
“Aka…” Calumon felt tears well up in her eyes as she looked up at her partner in pure sadness. “I… I can’t-”
“You can!” Aka spat out at the poor Digimon. “You can and you will! We’re not running away from this fight, not again! You will fight, and you will WIN!” Calumon sobbed as she looked up at her partner. She wanted to make Aka stop looking at her like that, to stop being angry with her. The little Digimon’s paws balled up into fists as she brought them to the sides of her large head, clenching her teeth and eyes shut as tears streamed down. Calumon felt so cold all of a sudden… She couldn’t see anymore, everything was so dark…
Aka… Calumon thought, as her mind began to cloud over. Aka… help me…
Suddenly, a massive burst of energy blasted out of Aka’s Digivice, one that she’d never seen before. The energy sent chills down Aka’s spine, but that hardly mattered to her. What did matter was the fact that Calumon was also glowing with the same aura. Incredibly, the little Digimon was Digivolving, and to a stage she never had before. This had to be it. This just had to be the Ultimate stage. A grin slowly crawled up Aka’s face as the little Digimon’s power skyrocketed.
The form that stood before her wasn’t Darcmon… But she didn’t know if she liked what she saw either.
In Calumon’s place was a hooded, phantom like figure with piercing gold eyes, staring back at Aka. The little girl was petrified with fear at the sight in front of her. The sweet Calumon now turned into a dark, phantom like creature, her emotionless eyes boring through Aka’s chocolate brown was. Aka was speechless, and in the worst way possible. This couldn’t be it, could it? The Ultimate level for her Calumon? The sweet little Calumon?
Astamon broke the chilling silence with a dark chuckle. The young girl instantly swung her head in his direction as the evil Digimon, one that Calumon was resembling quite well at the moment, clasped his hands together, grinning his evil grin at the young Tamer. “What’s the matter, little one of destiny?” Astamon chuckled. “Things didn’t go according to plan? Didn’t expect for your little Digimon to turn on you?” Astamon then knelt at the little girl’s level. “Honestly,” he scoffed, with a much less soft, mocking tone. “What did you expect? You’re supposed to be smart, aren’t you?”
Aka glanced down at her feet, complete and utter hopelessness enveloping her. He was right. How didn’t she see this coming.
Astamon gave another slight chuckled as he walked away from her. “Well,” he continued. “I was quite looking forward to destroying you myself, little human,” Astamon paused as he placed a cold hand on the egyptian phantom like Digimon staring down the ten year old. “But I’m quite a fan of the ironic.” he squeezed his hand on the Digimon’s shoulder. “So why not have Wisemon do it for m-?!”
Suddenly a hand gripped Astamon’s, squeezing it hard and bringing the other dark Digimon’s mind back to reality. Calumon, in her new Ultimate form, lifted the other dark Digimon by the wrist, squeezing it tightly as she did so.
Astamon was stunned! Why was this happening to him? Wisemon shouldn’t have been thinking clearly enough to do this! “Wha-” Astamon yelped as he was suddenly being surrounded by stones. “What are you doing?! Wisemon!” Calumon, or Wisemon rather, slowly turned her head toward the other evil Digimon, Astamon now being on the other side of the dark Digimon’s cold, golden eyes. Astamon backed away slightly, but kept his confident, upright posture despite his clear fear of the unexpected situation. “Wisemo-!”
Before Astamon had a chance to finish his thoughts, or even properly begin them, the stone were enveloped by an eerie green light, slowly twisting around the dark Digimon. Slowly but surely the fear became clear on the dark Digimon’s face as he brought his attention from Wisemon’s eyes to the green light and back to Wisemon’s eyes. To the dark Digimon’s horror, Wisemon’s eyes had changed from an unsettling gold to a horrifying green color. “...Eternal Nirvana…” Wisemon’s voice was so dry it cracked. It sent a chill down Aka’s spine. Calumon’s voice was so youthful and innocent, and now Wisemon’s voice was so dead.
Astamon stared in horror as the light from the stones completely enveloped him. His scream was instantly muzzled, and he was frozen in his place, the horror on his face stilled as he completely froze. A dark vortex then appeared under the evil Digimon. Astamon was slowly lowered into the portal until he completely disappeared. Then the vortex instantly sealed itself shut as a red light streamed across it, closing it almost like a zipper.
The two partners stood in silence as they stared at the spot they last saw Astamon. The ten year old was trembling at the sight she had just bared witness to. Astamon was gone, this was true. The Digimon who had caused them so much trouble during this battle had just been banished. But… was that a good thing? After all, now Wisemon didn’t have any distractions.
Speaking of Wisemon, the moment her golden eyes returned, her head swept and her dark gaze returned. The intensity from her eyes caused the girl to gasp at the sudden movement the now evil Digimon made. At least, she assumed Wisemon was evil now. She couldn’t allow herself to assume that just because she was her partner that Wisemon was on her side now. Astamon made that mistake and it cost him dearly.
Aka closed her eyes for a second, she swore, and then Wisemon was suddenly right in front of her! She screeched, falling backwards, and let out a sob as the little girl covered her face. The eyes of Wisemon, however, were so intense that even looking away from them could keep the image from her sight. The young girl whimpered when she heard sudden movement from her partner. She expected pain to come with that movement, but an intense light was in its place.
Green light enveloped Wisemon, causing her to shrink down to a size she wouldn’t have imagined even her little Calumon to reach. The light was soon replaced with a crying ball of white. She was almost a perfect spheres, only being diluted by two cute smaller spheres on her head. “Yuki…” The little Digimon was turned away from her partner, convulsing as she sobbed. Aka could only stare at the display of sadness. This same creature was just about to kill her, and now she was crying in shame. But should she? Should she really?
Aka changed from a sitting position to a kneeling position. Wasn’t Aka to blame?
