Rebecca Story... the epitome of a broken human being. One single horrifying event would change this young woman's like forever... whether she liked it or not.
It was around 4:00 PM on a school night, as Rebecca, dressed in her school girl uniform, calmly walked along the streets of Shibuya to reach her grandmother's house. She had just gotten herself out of a tight situation involving a Xros General and a Devidramon. A young boy found out about who she really was, and she just... ran.
It was like she had a split personality, and neither of which would cross into each other.
"Are you feeling alright, Rebecca?" The teen's partner Gabumon had asked from within her D-3.
"Yes," Rebecca lied. "Now will you quit asking me that?"
"We will when you tell us the truth," Gabumon's brother Agumon responded. "You could've at least stayed and gave the kid an autograph or something, you know?"
"Please tell me that's not all you're worried about, brother."
"Will you BOTH just stop it?!" Rebecca snapped, stopping as she pulled out her D-3 to yell into it. "I made a mistake. I'm a damaged person. I can't handle confrontation. What part about that can you not get?"
"...but as White Wolf, you confront people all the time."
"Well, I'm not White Wolf. At least, not all the time. God, I wish I could be. I only have enough courage to do it a couple hours a day. You just... you don't know what I've been through, guys. What my family has gone through."
At that moment, however, a rogue Digimon began to fly over the area. A Digimon by the name of Bakumon, a particularly vicious and cruel rookie level that loved drowning people in fears and torturing them. And in this case, she found a particularly vulnerable target. Smirking and chuckling cruelly, Bakumon flew down close to Rebecca's level.
"Nightmare Syndrome!"
Before she could anticipate it, Rebecca was blasted with a cloud of pure nightmares, putting her into an instant chloroformed state. Bakumon chuckled; this was where she could REALLY have some fun now.
"Mmmm..." Rebecca groaned as she got back up... or so she thought she did. When her eyes opened, all she could see was pitch black darkness. "W...Where am I?"
"Where you need to be, Rebecca..." the Bakumon replies, although her voice seemed to be coming from everywhere. "Or should I say... White Wolf."
Rebecca gasped. "How... how do you know that?!"
"We all have secrets to hide, wolf chick. And you? Man, this is the biggest secret I've ever seen. Who knew that the fierce, confident super-idol White Wolf, was nothing more than a scared little girl crying for her dead mommy and daddy."
"Whoever you are, this is NOT funny... you show yourself right now!"
"Nah, don't feel like it. How about I show you this instead?" Then, right before Rebecca's eyes, a clear image of her old apartment complex appeared in front of her.
"This... this is my home," Rebecca gasps. Slowly, she would walk up to it and extend her hand out to it, a small tear coming down her right eye. As soon as she touches it, the image would disappear like smoke.
"Yes, those were the days, weren't they, sweet sweet Rebecca?" Like clockwork, more and more images showing Rebecca's fondest childhood memories would appear. "Your mother and father were respected scientists, weren't they? They loved you very much... Even though they spent a lot of time at the lab researching that big project, they would always come home and make time for you and your brother.
"Speaking of your brother, OH BOY was he a different kid than he is now! Look at him, playing video games and watching cartoons with his sweet, happy baby sister. He hated no one, he trusted nearly everyone, and on top of that, high grades in school! This kid could've been going places!
"And then there's little old you... yes, you. You as a baby, chewing away at your toy blocks. Here, with your little stuffed Mister Deeno dinosaur, wanting a hug from Daddy. Halloween, wearing your cute little Hello Kitty outfit... Christmas morning, opening the first present, which was that sweet little toy you wanted, Wallace Wolf... summer vacation, eating ice cream out on the beach with your family. Isn't that sweet? Too bad it didn't last...
"...and that's all thanks to you alone."
That last statement caused Rebecca to do a double take. "No... no, no no!"
"Oh, yes yes yes! You remember THIS, don't you?" An image of her old apartment at nighttime would then appear. Suddenly, a few seconds later, there was an explosion on the floor her home was on. It was hard for Rebecca to watch, but she couldn't turn away, as she was frozen by fear.
"Oh yes, that's the stuff... you remember that night well, don't you? You woke up to a horrifying crash, followed by your brother running right for your room. He tried to pull you out of there, but you were scared. You couldn't move. Kind of like how you are now. It only took another loud crash to get you moving. And if you had just moved right then and there, your parents wouldn't have died.
"Yes, that is right; your parents died because of YOU. While you were being stubborn, a piece of the ceiling fell right on top of them. And guess what? YOU COULD HAVE SAVED THEM THERE, TOO!"
"NO, STOP IT, PLEASE!"
"The piece fell on them in EXACTLY the right angle where they could've been pulled out and saved! You and Iki could have saved them... but you chickened out, didn't you?"
"I CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE, LET ME OUT!" Rebecca was starting to cry at this point.
"YES, THAT'S RIGHT! You just ran, like the COWARD you are! YOU are the reason your family and life are in a mess! The brave shtick is all an ACT! You act like a confident, badass warrior lady, but on the inside, you are NOTHING! Your biggest fear isn't just your past; it's also being a complete FAILURE!"
"PLEASE! STOP THIS! I CAN'T TAKE ANYMORE!!!" Rebecca cried, a waterfall of tears running down her face/ "I WANNA GET OUT OF HERE! PLEASE!!!! Please..."
"Rebecca! Rebecca, wake up!" Gabumon's voice faded in and out, and all she could see was a blurry mess. Soon, her vision restored back to normal, and she opened up her eyes. "Oh, thank goodness!"
"Gabumon...? Ow, my head... what happened?"
"A Bakumon appeared and used her Nightmare Syndrome on you. You've been unconscious for the last fifteen minutes."
"Nightmare Syndrome...?" Good name for it. "Forget it... I just want to go home."
"What did you see?"
"I SAID... let's go home." Clearly, Rebecca did not want to talk about it. On the way home, the twins noticed that Rebecca was indeed crying. That experience completely destroyed any self-confidence Rebecca previously had, the self-confidence that helped her take on the White Wolf persona. She was not going to be able to function well after this...
