Kimiko’s life had been turned upside down so fast it made her head spin. To think, there was a time when she had thought losing her riches had been the most unexpected thing that could possibly have happened to her. While that was still unspeakably terrible, easily the worst part of her life, she did not think it quite held a candle to discovering an entire world of monsters in the ‘bizarreness’ department.
The girl wore a look that could best be described as a ‘steampunk pirate’. It consisted of a white blouse with puffy sleeves, a black leather corset wrapped around it, black breeches and high-heeled leather boots, plus lots of random golden gear accessories slapped on for good measure. It drew her many curious glances, but she did not care.
She walked with a hand at her chin, deep in thought.
You could make something of yourself in that world, if you become strong enough to. It’s strange, yes, and it makes no sense, yes, but you have to have been chosen for a reason – some force out there must know you’re destined for greater things. Maybe not in the human world, but the Digital one.
Her mind slid to the haughty, cartoonishly supervillain-like woman she had encountered in the Digital World, the one who had claimed to be some kind of empress, and anger sparked within her. Tch. That bitch thinks she’s the queen of that world, does she? Clearly I was meant to meet her, so I know what I have to surpass.
Though she knew she had a hell of a mountain to climb in that department, if she even could figure out where to begin. She carried with her a modern backpack that clashed with her steampunk aesthetic. It was noticeably writhing as though alive. Finally, the pink head of one of her Motimon partners popped out.
“It’s so cramped in there,” he whined. “Are you sure you can’t just tell other humans about us? Would they really have that much of a problem?”
“Quiet down, Magnus,” Kimiko huffed. She had named the more talkative of the pair ‘Magnus’, a Latin name meaning ‘great’, for she envisioned him becoming something great and powerful akin to the dragon that had belonged to the woman she had met.
The backpack shuffled again and the head of her other Motimon emerged.
“Yeah, can you stop wriggling already?” he grumbled.
“That’s not an excuse for you to speak either, Maximus,” Kimiko said. Likewise the more aggressive of the pair had been named ‘Maximus’, another Latin name meaning ‘great’, for the same reason as his brother.
She glanced around, eyes alert and wary. “Both of you get back in there before someone sees you!”
