The past few days have been both relaxing yet stressful. Rosewood is a fantastic place, but I can't help but feel there's a gap between me and Dorothy now, even if we're still partners. And I completely understand why, what with the things we're capable of doing together. Things she insists shouldn't be possible, and I agree. I shall not write on it any more until we understand it better, as for now, all we can do is speculate.
My teaching job here went excellently. Explaining the Digital World isn't easy, but someone has to catalog all of this information and make it easily learned. As for the Field Club... The less I think about that, the better. They probably hate me for the chaos I inevitably brought there with my curiosity.
Alice's concentration is completely shattered when she hears the kind of sound that normally doesn't happen in the Digital World, the strum of a guitar, so faint that perhaps it's just her imagination. The kind of thing one doubts is real in the first place. Writing underneath a nearby tree, she soon stands up, and calls out for her partner. "Dorothy, get down from there."
From out of the tree drops down the witch Digimon, a slight glare in her expression. "What now?" Dismissive words come out of her mouth as she rolls her eyes, uncomfortable with her own human partner as of late. "Somethin' catch your attention 'n keep it away from your usual stuff?"
"Not really, but I think I might need a bit of a break from writing, among other things." The green haired woman stands up, and glances around to the quiet, but still fairly lively town, a place both relaxing and yet so full of energy that it makes her feel a little bit at home. Perhaps too much so, she says to herself inside her mind. As pleasant as Rosewood is, it isn't a substitute for the Human World in the slightest. "I've heard something come from the inn every night, the sound of music. It's kind of interesting. You don't think there's another human here, do you?"
"Wouldn't surprise me. Ya said this place would become popular eventually... Only a matter of time 'till we're neck deep in humans." Making a joke while she walks behind her Tamer, she seems relatively calm, but the look in her eyes, directed at the emerald haired human, tells another story. "Whatever, ya wanna head to the inn or somethin'?"
"Sure, let's do just that."

This night at Rosewood's inn, there was more going on than merely an acoustic guitar set, though that would have been a fair assumption most other nights. However, over time, Leith and company had been slowly squirreling away bits, along with those they generated by existing, to help build up their music collection. What great news when Leith found out prices weren't nearly as absurd as they were where he was from! Some things about the stage setup were the same as any night, though.
For example, the 19-year-old had to keep his brown, curly hair about long enough to slip past his shoulders; anything shorter was an abomination to him, at least on his own head. His clothing goal seemed to be 'kill them with black,' if his dark sneakers, jeans, and Rise Against T-shirt (also black) were any indication. Heck, even the thin frames of his glasses were black, and he wasn't even wearing those onstage this night.
The new things were more about the gear. For example, Leith had apparently replaced the black acoustic guitar from the human world he normally used with a (still solid black) electric guitar with a set of gawdy LED lights along the bottom edge that were a different color combo every time a viewer blinked. Actually, it worked well with the low light. The theme of ostentatiousness continued with the amp it was plugged into, a stack almost as tall as the young man using it. Additionally, this night, Shoutmon wasn't singing by a mic stand at the front but instead a hanging mic stand in the rear so that he could play an equally gawdy double-bass drum setup slightly behind Leith. That was because Leith was the one using Shoutmon's at the moment.
"What is this irony? Luck of the draw leaves me with seven high, While all the villains are high and dry,
I'm taking on water, I've been, Long lost at sea, For just a moment more I wish I could be,"
The young man's delivery was a slow, low, haunting melody which was matched by the guitar he played while Shoutmon just added cymbal effects in the background. It wasn't until the second chorus that it picked up into a true power ballad. Leith's voice rose an octave, not to an absurd range but to one most untrained males certainly couldn't
reach.
"The storm tosses and turns me, My vessel cannot keep afloat for long, I'm floundering along,
I wish I could bail overboard, And swim back to shore, For a vessel that can bring me home..."
Leith didn't write that song about his current situation or even depression at all, but it sure seemed to fit at the moment. He was still fresh off of losing everything: his home, his family, his whole world... literally. All because of his own self-destructive behavior. Well... maybe not all because of me, was his only comfort as he finished up the song. Noticeably, there were other instruments offstage also audible, namely a violin and a bass guitar. These things were prerecorded with some of Leith and Shoutmon's other shiny new toys. "Digis and gentlemen, we're Haunted Threnody! Thank you!" The young man then proceeded to quickly pack up with the help of his Infiniti-Store plugin.
Both Leith Shoutmon made their way to the bar, then. Leith calmly asked for, "Just a glass of water, please," from the Gabumon working behind it.
"Whatever you got with alcohol, I don't give a shit," Shoutmon asked for by contrast. In brighter light, it was more obvious that this Shoutmon wasn't made of metal and bolts but flesh and scales (well, data, but still).
Original lyrics. Do not steal.

Upon entering, the two are immediately taken aback by this display, a faint smile coming across the green haired woman's face for a bit, thankful that her suspicions have lead to something of interest. For a while, she sits at the back of the inn, simply listening to the song and looking towards the duo, that faint smile still present for a bit. She doesn't get the full meaning of the song, but the mere fact someone is performing in this inn is enough to pique her curiosity. For now, she leaves them alone, mostly so the two onstage can finish their performance. "...It's good to see another Tamer, but this is a bit..."
"Unexpected? C'mon, I thought ya liked unexpected things." Dorothy gets a few strange looks from other patrons, as always, and she leans on her broom, making the first move to approach the duo of brown haired young man and Shoutmon when the show finally ends, making her way to the bar as well, a smug grin on the witch Digimon's face, as if to push Alice into the situation as well.
A slight, low grumble comes from Alice, but she obliges, sitting next to the other Tamer and hoping she doesn't make too much of a fool out of herself. She doesn't have to do this, she thinks to herself. She can just fade away into obscurity and into nothing. It'd be better that way given what happened last time she decided to help people. Fighting against her urges, she finally speaks. "...That was pretty good. Not every day you hear someone break the silence like that in the Digital World. It's a little refreshing." She doesn't bring up the strange way he put everything into a single box, that makes her curious, but at the same time, she doesn't want to ask about that, finding it less important.
"...It's good to see and hear someone put their heart into something like that." The green haired woman's expression, while still a slight smile, shows just how troubled she is over her own thoughts, a tired glance in her eyes. "I'm Alice, by the way. My partner's Dorothy. If you don't want to introduce yourself, it's fine." Opening her notebook without ordering a drink or anything of that sort, she flips through each of the heavily used pages, covered with notes, sketches and the occasional diagram or chart, gazing over the contents with a slight sigh.
A friendly laugh comes from the Witchmon, her tone less exhausted and thoughtful, and more irritated at her own Tamer. She mumbles something to the barkeep, and she's soon handed a glass of something dark. "Hey. You, with the guitar. That was kinda neat... Ain't seen a human do that before." This causes Alice to look up at her with a slight glare, and for Dorothy to speak up. "What? Ya think I'm not curious 'bout stuff sometimes, too?"

"Let's be honest: I was pitchy as hell during 'Keep Me In The Dark,' and everybody knew it,'" Leith mourned toward his companion. It seemed that Alice and Dorothy had caught them in the middle of a post-mortem discussion.
Unfortunately, Shoutmon seemed to agree. "Eh... yeah. But I think you were fine the rest of the time."
"Just 'fine?'"
"Nobody's perfect, dude!"
"On stage, you kinda have to-" This was when Leith finally noticed someone was being pushed toward him, naturally quite unwillingly. Of course, since she spoke without prompt, that seemed to indicate the woman in front of him wasn't truly unwilling but merely skittish. That eased his mind a little. Actually, Leith almost mistook the witch beside the woman for another human, but she had just enough detectable digital characteristics about her for Leith to pick it up... that, and the 19-year-old musician still had yet to meet a lone human in this world. Come to think of it, this chick's... what, 25? I don't think I've ever met a Tamer older than me before. Tactfully, the young man decided not to make a point of Alice's age out loud.
"Oh! Uh, you two saw that? Thanks a lot. I was havin' a real shit ton of fun." Leith managed, so he believed, to maintain the perfect balance of acknowledging the compliment as true, therefore not rudely refusing honest praise, while staying humble and looking like a slightly insecure person yet still not revealing the good reasons why he would be insecure. This was a routine he had run before enough times, both pre-digimon and post, but this was the first time it came from a human in a long time. After snorting at Dorothy's brashness, the young man introduced the pair, "I'm Leith. He's Shoutmon - no special name." Shoutmon politely waved but didn't actually even look at the pair until he finished chugging his entire cocktail.
When he did, he gave a simple, "Yo."
"Don't get much human company anymore. What brings y-"
"Leith!" Now a fifth person was running at the bar. This time it was a Veemon. Nothing special seemed to identify him, but by the speed with which he ran to join the others he sure seemed to know the person whose name he called. "Hey, Monodramon wanted to let you know he's gonna wait until closing time for our cut."
So, momentarily, Leith took his attention off Alice and Dorothy to talk to the Veemon. "Thanks, Vee, but I'm not really worried about him. He's always been good to us." The Veemon seemed to agree, seeing as he nodded in assent. "Veemon, that's Alice and Dorothy. Veemon's my other partner - last but not least."
"Oh! Hi!" Much more outgoing than either of his two partners, Veemon held out a hand for both of them to shake while wearing a big old friendly grin on his face.

"Pleased to meet the two of you. It's not every day you meet a budding musician, yet alone in the Digital World, of all places." A chuckle comes from Alice, not sure what to think just yet. She catches something odd in the look in Leith's eyes, but decides it's not worth pursuing as she glances over to Shoutmon. Not the first time she's seen such a Digimon, she thinks to herself. Maybe all Shoutmon are loudmouths to some degree. Maybe all Digimon follow a bit of a preset personality routine... Not the kind of thing Alice enjoys thinking about. "Then again, every Tamer is different, as is every Digimon."
Dorothy mumbles something at the barkeep and get a large glass of something dark that she takes a sip from immediately, awkwardly holding the glass in her large hand. "Makes ya humans a lil' weird, if ya ask me. But I like you for it, keeps things interestin'." The way she carries herself is both confident yet jumpy, a hard to place aggression that could be anything from genuine charisma to something more unpleasant.
"...Ah." Alice smiles a bit as she notes the Veemon as well, actually looking away from her notebook for a moment. "So you've got two. Not the first time I've seen it. Must be a bit of a handful sometimes... Either way. I research Digimon in my spare time. It's a bit..." Memories of the Field Club ablaze cause her to shake her head. Even if she isn't responsible for it, the imagery still brings thoughts into her mind. "Complicated. Yeah." As if to demonstrate, she flips through her notebook to a sketch of a large, imposing feminine cat Digimon with the label "Meicrackmon". Several points are focused on, primarily the eyes and the prehensile tendrils, alongside notes detailing speculation and observations of their functions. "Fairly hard work, but interesting. It's led me to many, many parts of the Digital World..." The last part of what she says is said in a slightly different tone, a mild faux cheerfulness. "Including here."
"After the incident, ya dork." The green haired woman shoots Dorothy a glare once again after speaking out, and she just laughs. "I bet you're itchin' for another fight like that, Gyahahaha..." Setting her empty glass on the table, Dorothy wraps an arm around Alice and pulls her closer, prompting her Tamer to glare at her once again.
"For now, we rest." Alice insists until she decides to change topics, intentionally avoiding further discussion of recent events. "That said, I'm always interested in hearing other people's stories. I'm sure you have some interesting ones." She sets her notebook back into her bag, and takes out a lighter from her pocket, flicking it open and just looking at the flame for a bit before turning to Leith, closing the old metal thing as if she was distracted for a moment. "The Digital World is a wonderfully exciting place, after all. Full of all manner of interesting people, places, stories..." She trails off briefly. "...You get the idea."

"'Interesting,'" Leith parroted, repeating this Alice woman's adjective of choice for describing the things you find in the digital world. Then he scoffed at it. "That's... well, that's not a wrong way to talk about it, I guess. I mean, there's Rosewood, and..." Leith glanced at Veemon, who grinned cheerfully back. The Tamer was forced to smile. Leith glanced at Shoutmon, who was chatting up some Palmon, and by his body language the conversation wasn't so family-friendly as Leith's. The Tamer was forced to scoff again "...them. So it's not all bad." Leith leaned in close and spoke in a lower softer voice to continue, "So. Sounds like you've been through something, too. I guess for us it's more like a 'who hasn't?' sort of situation, though."
Of course, Veemon didn't much care to think about that even if Leith judged that these might be acceptable people with whom to trade war stories. So he tried to change the subject. "So, hey, Alice! Dorothy! You're researchers? Like scientists! That's really cool!"
Apparently Shoutmon heard that, as he took a moment off meeting strangers to turn over his shoulder and quip, "Ha. Nerd."

"...Yes. Fight broke out between one of the group's main contributors and... I think it was his wife?" She shakes her head a bit, not too sure on the details on that part, and intentionally leaving a good part of what happened out, not wanting to reveal all the details. "I don't want to say too much... Needless to say it was pretty destructive. When a Digimon is angry, you have to stay out of the way... Well, I couldn't." The green haired woman shivers, the memory of being so close to something that could kill her instantly making her uneasy.
It isn't long for the emerald haired woman to respond to Veemon and change the subject. "Yes. My Digivice is equipped with a more powerful scanner, and of course, there's my notebook, but I started that almost as soon as I got here and... Well, it's a bit less professional." She shoves the lighter back in her pocket without a single word, and takes out the book once more, the bare black hardcover revealing absolutely nothing about its' contents. As she opens it up, a half hearted smile crosses her face as she shows off a few more sketches to the group until she stops at some of a very peculiar Digimon labeled "Calumon", a pale white, small thing with large ears and a very distinctive pattern on its' head. She then quickly closes it, as if she doesn't want anyone to see that particular sketch.
"...C'mon, still all stiff 'bout what happened?" Dorothy rolls her eyes, the Witchmon taking a long drink from her glass and quietly mumbling something vague and hard to understand about this not being the first time she's tried to hide things. "Whatever. Just glad she ain't moping about it alone..." A slow turn of her head to Shoutmon's direction is also done with a laugh, the witch Digimon seeming more laid back than her human counterpart. "Gyahaha, yeah, you're right, She's a total dork sometimes, but in the good way, ya know? Lets me crash at her place, not wear any of 'em dumb Holosuits... Free from crazy, holier-than-thou crusader jerks."
"That reminds me..." Alice speaks up again. "Rosewood is a pretty nice place. I decided to teach the Digimon here about the rest of the Digital World. For such a place they think is mundane, there's a lot of things they don't quite understand about it." She takes a moment to sigh, and her gaze soon turns to Shoutmon, the emerald haired woman both slightly offended and amused by his comment. "So yes, one could call me a nerd."
