It was a calm day in the Bayou; the usually humid swamplands were behaving better than usual, a small breeze running through the environment and making sure that the place's usual humidity wasn't too unbearable.
And for a certain brunette's relatively light outfit to not cling to her body like a giant leech or something similarly disgusting; definitely, something to be thankful about!
What was she doing in, sitting in a clearing and right beside a lake in such a place? Well, that could be easily answered just by observing. Given how she had a fishing pole tightly held between her hands and a bucket right beside her. If one peered a little more thoroughly, they'd be able to see a good part of the recent catch; a number of fishes, laying motionless as the girl peered ahead, concentrated in the current task at hand.
While fishing was relaxing, that wasn't the reason why Amelie was in here. The teenager was in the search for something greater... something that had eluded her until now.
Or maybe wouldn't anymore? Suddenly, the pole began to react; it was a big catch! Fiercely, she went through the motions to retrieve whatever she had caught. Bigger, and stronger than any fish thus far!

There's some things in life that one has to do before they end up perishing to something unsightly. For some, that was something trivial like seeing the biggest building in the world or jumping off a mountain or something hilariously inane like that. For Mae, it was swimming.
A lot of swimming. The Meicoomon had the gear to do it. The Meicoomon knew she could swim, her day in the Sunken Elysium with Owen, Bezil, and those two guys proved that pretty well. So, she decided to spend today swimming in the Bayou.
It was a fun time, albeit quite lonely. Mae had read somewhere that cats don't like water, except...She sort of liked it? Kind of? Sort of? It was something she was used to. Of course, things took a turn when she caught the smell of fish in the air, and decided to swim towards it after she had surfaced.
Before she knew it, something snagged at her and began to pull on her with the force of a thousand suns. Unfortunately for her would-be catcher, Mae was a strong cat! But...Inevitably, the hook would win out. Mae sprang out of the water, and was reeled in. It was probably a very strange sight for Amelie, a soaking wet Meicoomon in swimming gear. "...Meeeiii...Am I the fish now? Who are you?"

Ok so, yes, the digital world was full of a wide variety of wonderful, and terrifying things, so many things to be experienced that it boggled the mind. From dinosaurs to robots, living trains and well Tatsu. Every time Chiaki had visited the digital world she had discovered something new to hold her attention...except this came completely out of left field. Cats? Sure she loved them, swimming, well the water of the Bayou did look pretty inviting. Fishing, she was sure some people enjoyed it. It was only, if you throw them all together you got a...a...no no it was impossible. There was no way she could even think about computing the scene infront of her.
"You know...if you stand there like that with your mouth hanging open a Biyomon will fly in," the white weasel like Digimon draped around the girl's shoulders offered her an innocent grin, full of worry and concern for her partner, the only sign of teasing being the amused light dancing in the back of her eyes. "I..what, no they wouldn't, they're more likely to think a noodle like you is a worm or some kinda bird food." Before the two could fall into the good-natured trading of insults they heard Mae's speech, the two sharing an easy grin before looking back at the bedraggled Meicoomon. "I mean...you got hooked by the fishing rod, so you must be a fish, right?" "She doesn't look like any fish I've ever seen...but then this is the digital world after all." "Exactly," the brunette glanced across at Amelie, flashing a grin at the girl, "If something looks like a cat, but act's like a fish, what is it?" If there was one thing that united the pair more than anything else it was their sense of humour, and the opportunity to tease Mae was just too good to be passed up.

She wasn't going to give up on this catch, even if... it happened to be a cat. A cat that Amelie recognized; or that at least she believed she did.
"T-Tawna...?" Upon second thought, that was impossible; there was no way in hell somebody like Tawna would go through the cutesy route with 'meeeeiii' and similar expressions of that vein. The brunette knew that Meicoomon better than that.
Before Amy could reply to her most recent catch, however, a digimon-tamer pair had already shown up and were... arguing? Ish. And trying to make funny remarks at both her and Mae. Which prompted a giggle from Amelie, mostly due to how weird was the situation she had found herself in.
"I guess you're definitely a fish now." She stated, her fellow brunette's grin being on the contagious side. "If you want to eat some, help yourself, even though I'm unsure if every cat fancies raw fish."
After unhooking the Meicoomon, she threw the line to the water again. "My name's Amelie, by the way. Pleased to meet you, Meicoomon, Noodle and... Noodle's tamer?"
Those seemed like good enough names, at least for now! "So, what are you all doing in here? A swampland seems to be a pretty weird place for... people and digimons to hang out, if you ask me."
That thought had gotten her curious, in all honesty! The Bayou was usually as deserted as it got, so this was definitely out of the norm.

There were two things to take note of here. One, the fact that Mae was now a fish meant she was a cannibal for wishing to consume the fish. She had been eyeing that bucket this whole time. "...Awww man, I'm a cannibal..." The cat murmured, before her ears twitched. This girl knew Tawna?
"......Oh, you know Tawna? That's neat. Um. I'm Mae. Hi Amelie, Noodle, and Noodlemancer." To say it was nice to be unhooked was a little bit of an understatement, but Mae went over to the bucket, plucked a fish out, and took a sizable CHOMP out of it.
That's a raw fish. She just chomped it. "I'm a cannibal fish now I guess. This is pretty good for being uncooked..." Hey, maybe she could try cooking it later? "...I'm going to be completely honest, but I was just swimming here because I felt like it...Um, if it's that weird I can probably find someplace else to swim. Maybe"

"Well, I mean, there are worse reasons to go swimming than you felt like it," Chiaki allowed, crossing the distance between herself and the others, to stand next to Amelie, staring down at the Digimon as she made that fish vanish in a matter of seconds. The speed of the eating attracted the attention of a certain white furred digimon, who stretched down Chiaki's neck, resting her paws on the girl's stomach as she stared down at Mae.
"Hi, I'm Noodle...I mean Tatsu I mean...well call me whichever really." Tatsu had never really cared about what she was called, what she did care about was meal time. While the raw fish didn't look all that appealing, the speed at which the girl was eating was amazing and Tatsu couldn't help but stare in awe, though she had to wonder, "How do you eat that fast and not choke?"
Chiaki cuffed her partner lightly around the head, shaking her head down at her friend, "Manners, you can't just ask someone that straight out." Ruffling the virusbuster's fur the girl looked up, "Honestly we were just out here exploring, I didn't actually expect to run into anyone else out here, but you know, we'd never been here and well, I don't get to see much of a swamp back home so..." the brunette threw her hands out to her sides. "Why not check it out?"

The current gathering was undoubtedly... interesting! Especially for the fact that the Meicoomon in front of her wasn't Tawna, even though her bodies looked pretty much the same, not to say that their mannerisms regarding food were... quite similar. But Tawna was Tawna, and this Meicoomon was Mae. At least that meant Amy wouldn't have to search for Haru to return the digimon once their business in here was done.
But, for now, she felt like humoring their newest guest, though! "I mean, if you want for me to cook the fish, I could do that? I'm not very hungry at the moment, but I can begin a fire or something. What about you? Wanna eat some recently-caught fish?"
Of course, the brunette would nod and smile at noodle Tatsu's greeting. All things considered, the teenager had a soft spot for the little ferrets. Chiaki's own words were quite... refreshing! It reminded her about her first forays into the Digital World... well, kinda!
"Well, if you wanna stay~!" For a second, her expression lit up as the line was cast once again into the water. "Apparently, there's a digimon who's been lurking in here, robbing all the fish from local fishermen. And before you ask; no, it wasn't a Meicoomon."
As fishy as it seemed at the moment, Mae wasn't among the likely culprits! "I wouldn't mind company while I solve the mystery, so feel free to stay."
Not the most glamorous goal, but an endeavor worth pursuing to her.

"I don't think I wanna know what those reasons happen to be, ahaha!" The cat giggled. "Hm...Maybe this'd be a bit better if cooked, yeah." She could definitely eat it raw but there was something about cooking that was undeniably FUN. Satisfying, even! Mae felt she was being addressed and peered up to find...A Kudamon. She hadn't seen these before but she had heard they were, essentially, long and holy noodles.
"Noodle sounds a lil rude...So Tatsu it is. To answer your question...I can eat so fast and not choke because I'm incredibly skilled, you see. Eating's like, the number one thing I do to survive, so naturally I need to be good at it! Uh...Does that make sense? I actually don't know why but I figured trying to explain was better than nothing."
The cat's ears twitched. "...Is that why I didn't see a lot of fish underwater? If it wasn't a Meicoomon...It's probably something that hides underwater. Maybe. I wanna solve that mystery, so I'll stay."

"I mean, the digital world is pretty amazing but you can't beat a good murder mystery," Chiaki paused looking over at the lake as her brow furrow in thought for a moment. "I mean, I guess we don't know that it's murder but fish are going to swim so if they're not here it's probably not a good thing, unless," she grinned, a sparkle of amusement glinting in her brown eyes. The teenager span to point a finger at Amy, a teasing look dancing across her face, "Unless it was you all along." She glanced down at the girl's fishing equipment, "Well, ok, so maybe not you, but...that's to say, I'm in." While her partner was playfully accusing Amy Tatsu had snuck closer to Mae, staring at her with something approaching awe and wonder. "You...train me! I wanna be able to do that too! Can you teach me, please please?" Chiaki glanced over at her partner, shaking her fondly, "Oh she's just gonna wanna try to do that all the time now." Meal times were gonna be...fun but, she couldn't deny her friend her enjoyment and it looked like Mae had made quite the impression. "Did you find any clues while you were out here?" Amelie Mae

Starting a fire was easy enough, at least for somebody somewhat seasoned in the Digital World as Amelie; sure, the natural humidity of the swamplands made everything a little harder, but that wasn't something that couldn't be taken care of with proper technique.
Soon enough, four or five were being cooked in sticks around the fire. "Give them some time, and they'll be good." The brunette concluded with a smile before getting back to the conversation and throwing the line in the water once again.
"I mean, I could be the murderer." She replied to Chiaki's accusations, somewhat nonchalantly. "But if the case was solved so quickly, things wouldn't be as interesting, wouldn't they? At least wait a bit so it's a bit more in the dramatic side! Wouldn't that be a little bit better?"
At the very least, it'd make for a longer thread! "Regrettably, I'm not the culprit. Otherwise, things would've been way easier. Just gotta discover me, right?" She smiled at how everyone showed interest in joining. Whether helpful or not, doing things in company was always funnier and more entertaining than doing them on your own.
And, apparently would —somehow—, accelerate the pace at how things were developing. For unexplainable reasons, the next time something pulled at Amy's rod, it did so grandly; enough to open a veritable path underwater! The brunette could barely believe her eyes.
She didn't know of any digimon who could pull a Moses. "So, uhhhh. This probably is a lead?" She seemed just a bit nervous at that display. "Shall... we?"
If anything, the journey ahead seemed interesting!

Mae found herself entertaining the thought of this giant lady being the culprit behind the lack of fish. While it was kind of funny, it was also hilariously unlikely. She looked at Tatsu with a little bit of an awed expression. The noodle wished to LEARN from her?! "Oh, I can teach you stuff, sure! But...uh. Which thing? Swimming or eating stuff really fast...?" The cat inquired, tilting her head accordingly.
Then the water parted itself for Amy's rod! Mae perked up and put her gaze to that display. "That might be a lead! Let's go see if it is!" The cat was already preparing to jump onto the path!

There was no hiding the grin that split Chiaki's face as she nodded in appreciation at Amelie, "Oh, I like you." Well, if there was one thing he could say about the little group that seemed to be forming here, it wouldn't be boring. And seemed like a pretty interesting way to spend her day, much better than her original plan of just wandering around till they were hungry. Squatting down the brunette stared at the cooking fish, the smell of it, she had to admit, had left her stomach growling. So much so, in fact, she missed that Amelie had started fishing again until she heard the splash of the lure sinking into the water. "I mean, you do make a good point...but then that's what I'd expect any criminal to say when they were confronted. This could all be part of your plan for a dramatic reveal at the end." Chiaki nodded sagely as if she had stumbled onto a vast and hidden secret with those words, only the twinkle of amusement in her eyes giving the truth to her teasing.
Tatsu on the other hand, couldn't care less for the teasing, two things occupied her mind, the food cooking and Mae. "Umm...can we do both? I've never actually gone swimming...well I paddle around in the bath some but my feet can touch the bottom too...aren't you scared of drowning...can we eat now?" The little noodle was so excited she could barely keep still, hopping around on the floor, little paws scampering back and forward till Chiaki offered her one of the fish on a stick from the fire. The girl pulled two more free to offer them to Mae and Amelie before retrieving her own. "And just in time too, we've got food for the walk now. So...I really hope that this isn't one of those movies where the water comes crashing in on us when we're halfway there."

Probably not quite the merry companions, but this group was definitely on the interesting side! Whether a good or a bad thing, at least that meant this quest wouldn't be a boring, detectivesque case.
A smirk was reciprocated in kind to Chiaki while the fire crackled. Her reasoning was more or less on the right side, she had to admit. But… did that make it correct? That was a good question.
“But isn't a dramatic reveal the best possible climax for a mystery case? If it happens right at the start, then it's not that shocking. It needs more spice! Friendship, risks and that stuff.”
Was Amelie trying to solve a case, or was she writing a novel or something. In either case… and coincidentally enough, the food seemed to be ready by the time the current la parted.
“A small snack while solving a mystery. Who knows, maybe offering some fish to the final boss will make them softer. Or maybe they'll just be mad. Who knows!”
She took a decisive bite from her fish before descending. It tasted quite good! At least her cooking skills hadn't become rusty.
Now, what exactly was down below? For now, it just seemed like a plain tunnel, with no definite end on sight.
With one small caveat, however. As the group advanced, they would notice the density of fish in the water began to increase progressively, almost as if… they've all taken refuge down below.
“Amazing.” A pensive hum escaped the brunette's throat. “Why would the fish dive down that deeply? Could it be they're hiding from something?”
Going deeper and deeper seemed to be the only way to find out, even if Amy hadn't missed the critical question. Who had opened this tunnel… and why?

Woah, Chiaki liked Amy? That's grounds for that shipping thing some humans liked to do sometimes, probably. "Both could be fun. And I'm not that scared of drowning. I don't think I ever have been. I...don't know why, really. It's weird. I think that's pretty cool, though. You're a long noodle so you could totally get away with touching the bottom of a bath..."
The cat had been stopped from jumping into the path by the offer of food. Food she had accepted and...practically devoured. Wow, that's nuts. Then, and only then, did she follow Amy (and Chiaki and Tatsu!) down. "Maybe they're hiding from a giga fish. Like, the fish of all fishes. A true freak of a fish that only exists to hunt and kill?"

It couldn't be denied that Amelie had a good point there, who would want to be in a story that ended before it had begun. Even those funny detectives on TV, Columbo and Poirot always waited until the end of the episode to reveal the culprit, even if they had known who it was all long. That was a pretty cool skill, to be able to read people like that, her parents seemed to be able to but Chiaki had never managed to acquire that skill. Maybe it was something to do with experience, still...she'd have to keep a close eye on amelie...not because she was the only person in this impromptu party who actually seemed to know what they were doing, never that. at least, she'd never admit that.
Unlike Tatsu, who didn't seem worried about admitting anything to her new friend. "You think...I could bounce along the bottom, that could be fun...hey no-one knows where I can get my hand on one of those fake sharkfins do then? I could totally hang out and scare people with one of those." "I kinda think you'd freak people out enough just showing up as a talking noodle with a metal tail ornament." Oh yeah," Tatsu's face fell for a moment as she nibbled on her fish despondently before perking up and grinning at Chiaki, "Or, we can go to the beach here? I bet there are some awesome beaches in the digital world!" "We'll see, if there's one we can get to sure, it might be nice to relax in the sun." A happy grin on her face the small white digimon scampered down the path to catch up with Amelie as Chiaki looked around at Mae, "You know, you migh be right, or maybe some giant bird keeps diving in to catch them so they're hiding down here...unless down at the bottom is where all the fish food's at."
