Oh... oh poor Holly. Mikemon could feel that slight pang in her heart as he spoke - it seemed like she understood, at least a little, but at the same time the Meicoomon was confused. And honestly, Mikemon didn't exactly know how to handle her. Just what could he say?
Well. He had to say something:
"You don't know enough of the choices yet, Holly. Heck, you don't even know if you would like researching." Mikemon would give her a slight scratch behind her ear. "We'll figure it out, once you know a little more, alright?"
"Hm... it seems like we're not going to get through much, here..." The Ebemon gave a frustrated sigh. He understood, of course, but this sort of diamond in the rough didn't happen very often! "Keep in touch, then?"
"Maybe." He gave a sigh - and would lead Holly on out, Syre following closely behind with K. And as Holly was confused, Syre... well, she felt a bit frustrated herself. Not enough to bring it to words, but:
... Why's she getting all this?

Holly fidgeted a little bit, unsure of what really to say at this point. She wouldn't have a clue what she would like to research that much was true, or what else she really could do. There were plenty of choices to be made and she'd have to examine a lot of them as closely as she could. At that scratch behind her ear she'd give it a flick and tilt her head a little bit.
"All.. right. Sorry."
She hopped out of her chair and blinked a little bit. The Ebemon seemed as frustrated as she probably felt, or more so. Maybe he knew more, maybe he didn't but that was something she'd probably learn in the future. His desire to try to keep in touch only made Holly quirk a brow. Her father answered quite on the ball and then lead her out of the room.
K shook her head a little bit and closed the door quietly behind them. She wasn't really sure what to say to this entire mess, but she felt like something was a touch off. Like she should be saying something to someone. Instead she could only wonder what the future was going to hold for both of her daughters. So instead she simply poised a question.
"Back home we go then?"

Well, in any case, it had been a long and stressful day for the family, and as they would finally take the portal back to the Library, the lot of them would still likely have a lot on their minds.
It didn't take them too long to settle back in: Mikemon slipped back to his office to catch up on his paperwork, and Syre went on to her room to try and make sense of whatever that was. Really, Holly was so impressive that she slipped off into the background, back there? That was supposed to be her day, trying to get into classes at that school. Instead, she had to simply sit back and wait for a letter.
Which is what she planned, yes, but it seemed like Holly was just having the carpet rolled out for her!
"Ugh..."
Dang it, why did she have to think that way? Rubbing her temple, Syre tried to bury herself back into those textbooks, to try and get a sense of what went wrong and where she fell short. Did she mess something up along the way?
Deep down, she knew that wasn't the case, but those thoughts kept flicking up in the poor cat's head...

Honestly as far as things went, it was probably for the best that the family did go right back home after that little stop in the office. Holly was still trying to wrap her mind around the entire endevour. K was somewhat unsure about the whole thing herself and it showed as it took her a little bit longer to get food started for her family. Though it wouldn't take her terribly long before it was in the oven proper...
Holly pretty much didn't know what to do or what to think at this point. Questions by the dozens rolled through her head and made it hard to really do much more than clutch at her head, lay on her bed and just think.
Her math score was fine. Her aptitude was... very high.
The other scores were not so much, but that didn't seem to matter much. In fact it seemed to matter very little as the Ebemon had pulled aside the entire family just for her. Which was largely frustrating. She still didn't have a firm grasp on everything and it honestly hurt to think about.
She'd rub along her face and ears trying to get things straightened out in her head. It frustrated her a little bit that Da didn't let her hear at least what some of the options were so she could at least look into them. The only one that she did hear was an awfully general term that could be attributed to several different things.
Could she really blame him though? At least syre probably knew what she was going to do... The meicoomon blinked a little bit and sat up glancing around. It would make sense that her sister would know what they wanted, they were the smarter one out of the two of them anyways. Could she ask her sister for advice? Was now even a good time for that? With a gentle huff the meicoomon flopped backwards on the bed staring up at the ceiling.
K on the other hand? Well she'd rap her knuckles along the door-frame of Syre's room. It wasn't hard for her to tell that her daughters were frustrated in one way or another. But syre's seemed a little more troubling while Holly's seemed more inquisitive than anything. Something that needed to be dealt with in one fashion or the next.
"Syre?"
She'd gently push open the door, managing a pretty cheerful smile. She was proud of her daughter for getting those scores; she was certain that she'd get some well deserved attention from different schools. Much in the same realm she was pretty sure that holly would likely recieve a different sort of treatment.
"Everything all right?"

First was Syre.
Hearing the light knock at her door, the BlackGatomon couldn't help but give a sigh. For one, she was in the middle of quite a long paragraph, and two, after the long day that was today, she wasn't sure if she wanted to talk to anyone. So she just let out a tired groan, not responding to the knock itself. She didn't want to deal with anyone from the Library right now -
Wait, mom? Her ear gave a twitch, the cat looking over her shoulder as K peered on in, the Renamon managing a smile on her face. This smile wasn't returned by the cat, trying to piece together her thoughts as K brought up that question.
"I mean... I think so."
She gave a sigh, turning, folding her hands as she sat over the edge of the bed. "I mean, I study my butt off and get a bit lower than I would have wanted... but Holly doesn't even study, and she has the school opening up their arms for her? Its just... well, its a bit demotivating, really. I know it should just be a 'good for you' and such, but... ugh, I don't know. Its just frustrating..."

Why wouldn't the first person that K would check on be syre? Holly likely didn't have the same problems as this particular youth and even if she did it would likely be twice as easy to explain it out to someone so young. IF they didn't understand it could always be explained at a later date. Noting that the smile wasn't returned the renamon would quietly close the door behind her, flicking her ears and sitting on the bed next to syre.
"Honestly I was somewhat surprised too. But your effort isn't meaningless Syre. You put forward quite a bit of effort already and the schools will realize that. Holly is... talented sure, but that can't outright beat someone that's studied like you have. Put time in it as you have."
The renamon sighed and shook her head a little bit. She understood this frustration; she really did. But it was something that would have to be calmly and carefully addressed.
"I understand your frustration Syre, I really do. But don't get hung up on it too much, Holly isn't ready for this kind of thing. You are. You can make these sorts of choices she isn't ready to and your work will pay off in the long run. Just have a little faith in yourself okay?"
The renamon let out a small chuckle and offered Syre a hug.
"At the end of the day she still thinks the world of you and looks up to you. Even if you're frustrated with all of that, she'll still believe in you. And I know that I believe in you too, I know mikemon does. Else he wouldn't be pressuring you like he does."

"Hmph."
Syre understood what K was trying to get at, sure - but this? Her work wasn't meaningless? Well, maybe she'd be able to think that once a school sent in an acceptance letter, but what if they didn't? The stress of it all was already a bit much for the cat - and now here was Holly, more-or-less skirting on by! But...
... It was true. Holly wasn't really ready for this sort of thing, and Mikemon was quite aware of that fact to begin with. The cat bit her lip, starting to give a slow nod. "Right... but that's just it, isn't it? Holly's not ready for it, and yet they were willing to accept her with open arms. Heck, they tried to push it on her, and my sister didn't even realize... ugh." She shook her head. But that last bit?
That rang home. Holly looked up to her, even now. Syre managed a chuckle, getting a small smile on her face as she gave a nod. "And she'll be needing a lot more of my help going forward, won't she?" After a moment, she raised her arms, gently grasping around in a gentle hug.
"I... I know. I mean, its still a bit frustrating, but... you get that, right? I'll try and work through it..."

K flicked her ears a little bit, she could tell that syre was frustrated. Unhappy even, and it was frustrating to her that it didn't seem to click with Syre just how much her effort really meant. The renamon was certain that syre would get the letter she was hoping for. It would be beyond frustrating if she didn't and if that was the case she likely would be very angry at Holly. So she crossed her fingers hoping that she wasn't wrong there.
"The whole diamond in the rough thing, considering how fast they jumped on her I don't think they thought it over enough. I don't think holly expects or thinks about that sort of thing all too much. But that might change which is good."
The renamon leaned a little bit and gave her daughter a firm, somewhat decent in length hug. K could feel that frustration and the renamon gave her daughter a gently rub on her head before breaking the hug.
"You're right there, she'll need your help more than anyone. I wouldn't be surprised if she started trying to talk to you more often after this. She's full of questions and you've got plenty of answers no?"
The renamon grinned a little bit and tilted her head quietly.
"I do get it Syre, I know the frustration all too well. It'll take a bit, it'll hurt to think about. But in the end you'll be better for it."
K paused after a few moments and considered something for a few moments.
"You've already looked at classes with Mikemon right?"

Syre definitely didn't even want to think of that possibility - what if she wasn't accepted, but Holly was? The elder sister simply shoved that thought into the back of her head, hours ago, simply nodding at K's words. "Dad seems keen on trying to protect her, at least. I mean... Holly might be smart, but she's... I dunno, too trusting?"
That was about the best that she could explain it, anyway. Returning the hug that K gave, giving a small relieved sigh, she gave a short nod. K understood, Holly would need her help, and...
"... Being a big sister's a bit more important than worrying about classes, isn't it?" She gave a chuckle, her ear twitching at K's next question.
"Um... yes, we have. Schools, at least - I haven't settled into anything specific at all. In fact, most have my experience outside of books has been in on-and-off mission work. Dad seems to put a little more focus in my fighting, than anything else, though that might just be getting better conditioned to it. Hmph..."
She took a seat on her bed - giving a glance to those books, before simply lying on her back.
"But for now, enough of the books. I just have to stop worrying about it..."

"She hasn't been given a reason to be distrustful of people, she thinks the best of them really. I don't think she even thought about it. Wouldn't you do the same if put in his position?"
The renamon sighed a little bit and rubbed softly at her muzzle, she'd grin a little however at syre's mention of being a big sister. Honestly there was so much more to it; but K herself wouldn't truly know. She herself never had any siblings, before mikemon and her friends that she made she didn't really have... anyone. Before her children she... well. Was just her.
"Just a bit Syre, Just a bit. Won't stop you from worrying and won't stop me from helping though."
K let out a loose chuckle and watched her daughter lay on her back. She'd blink a few times and simply nod. Honestly she could see why mikemon would put focus into fighting, the world was a dangerous place and neither of them could always be there for their children. If k was off on a mission or mikemon otherwise indisposed and they got in trouble? They'd have to pull themselves out of the fire. K would lean a little bit looking up at the ceiling.
"Good! leaves you open to options if you haven't picked specifics though I'd say think about them a bit, and can you really blame him? He wants to make sure you're ready. Fighting may not be for everyone; but it's something we should know. He worries about your safety; so waht better way to make sure you're safe than knowing you know how to defend yourself?"
The renamon stood and stretched a bit giving her daughter a sweet smile.
"I can't blame you for wanting to take a break, especially after today; Try not to worry too much dear! Oh. That reminds me! This time you get to partake in a roast for dinner~"
The renamon would walk over to the door and let out a firm sigh pulling it open after a few long moments. Though she'd step on the other side of it, she'd speak quietly seeming somewhat content.
"I'm really proud of you Syre. I'm glad I got to see you do this."
And like that life would seemingly slip back to normal for about three or so days, though holly spent a large majority of her time locked away in her room. Going over book after book, of various sorts trying to expand her knowledge of things she didn't know to the best of her ability. She'd of course go down for dinners and such, but she seemed to be driven towards something else.
Even after her mother spoke to her, holly seemed to be bubbly and energetic like she normally was but kept to those books. Perhaps she was trying to get to a place to where she could try to make those choices or understand better what would come? It would be hard for her to really argue or explain things out if she didn't know what was what.
Though she decided that today of all days would be a good day to take a break. To kick back, relax and laze around in the house after doing her chores. She still had to do that fighting with her dad and she was currently nose deep in some human novel about a closet dimension known as Narnia.
"Mei... I wonder if... I wonder if those letters are going to come soon?"
The meicrackmon leaned her head back staring up at the ceiling for a few long moments, furrowing her brow and flicking an ear. She had started to get reasonably comfortable in this form. Sure it made her a touch more hungry at dinner times but her mother didn't seem to mind the extra work so much. She'd frown deep and gently place the book down heading quickly to her room's door to pull it open. It wouldn't hurt to check the mail or ask Da...

K's talk definitely helped, but more-so, time was what brought everything back to normal.
Sure, it was easy to get caught up in the moment, but once the cat had about a half day and a good sleep, the BlackGatomon was able to largely put it behind her. Besides, she had other things to worry about: fight training, books, and dragging Holly out of her room for the occasional game of Backgammon ("C'mon, come out for at least twenty minutes!").
Three days later, that pace really hadn't changed, Syre perhaps now a touch concerned for her sister... but she understood. Those letters were bound to come at some point! Right now, the cat was helping K peel some apples for later, her ear giving a flick as a knock echoed at the door to their quarters. Ah, Stingmon!
"Hm... quite the pile of mail today..." The Stingmon filtered through it: setting aside a few bills, before setting down a big pile, right in front of Syre and K. And among it all, across the top...
Holly. Holly. Holly. Even from schools who weren't even running the test.

Holly was glad that she had gotten to have some time to herself to think things over, to think about the stuff she was reading. Even after that talk and dealing with that... test of sorts. She would of course come out to play that game with her sister, a big grin on her face almost the entire time except for during points where she had to think about what to do exactly.
She wasn't aware of the concern her sister had for her, but the thing being is that she couldn't just remain aloof and try to focus on fishing right? Mikemon had wanted to train her and find books for her to read. Maybe even study! So why not take that last bit into her own hands?
K was enjoying the bit of time she was spending with her daughter; even if it was something simple like peeling apples. She'd perk up a little bit as stingmon came in, claiming that they had quite a pile of mail. At first she chuckled but then she blinked owlishly at that big pile he placed down.
Holly on the other hand had come out just at the right time, blinking a bit and looking as though she was fairly confused. K started to piece through the pile, shifting those that were for holly into neat stacks and... handed syre the few with her name on it with a small encouraging smile.
"Just a minute dear... Let me go get mikemon. I think he'll want to be here for this..."
The renamon got up and trotted towards the mikemon's office giving it a firm wrap on the door before pushing it open. Holly on the other hand? Well she came over to see her name on quite a few letters. Blinking owlishly she'd inspect them and quirk an eyebrow. She'd look to her sister, a look of confusion plain on her face.
"Mei...? Why did I get so many...?"

Holly. Holly. Holly.
Syre was made to look right at it, even as K sorted out the mail - not even able to fit all of Holly's letters into one pile, before handing Syre the mere two that she had been given:
One from Luminas - obviously an acceptance letter, on the terms that she'd serve Luminas for a set amount of time.
And one from the school that she'd taken the test at.
She was nervous, and wanted so much just to tear it open... but she would wait, with her sister, as K would head out to Mikemon's office. Taking a seat on the table, a few feet away from her. She gave a nervous chuckle, unsure how to answer Holly's question, as Mikemon followed K back into the room.
"So many..." The doctor said in a low voice. He sat next to Holly, nodding for K to sit next to Syre, the BlackGatomon still nervous as she raised a claw, slicing through the top:
"C'mon..."
She pulled out that sheet of paper... before giving a small, sudden laugh. Accepted!

K couldn't hide those letters, not as they were. There was no point in even trying, it would be more of an insult to try to coddle her daughter. K looked somewhat frustrated but also was fairly delighted in how much interest holly was garnering. It gave her options for the future, things she could do. With syre? those two letters? Well they would mean a lot to her daughter.
Holly nervously fidgeted and stared at the letters; her ears flicking a bit as she wasn't even sure how to address these butterflies she was feeling. More of uncertainty than anything else; and the silence from syre didn't really help that. Her expression shifted to a small sense of concern when her father spoke.
K took a seat next to syre grinning a little bit as her daughter opened it up. Holly glanced at her Da and then back at syre when they let out that sudden small laugh. K of course would smile wide and give her eldest daughter a big hug!
"I knew it! Didn't I say not to worry?"
The renamon chuckled and holly leaned a little bit to get a good look at what syre had got. She wasn't completely interested in her own letters, as much as she wanted to know what was in them she also wanted to know if her sister had done well enough. Though she wouldn't say anything she'd gaze quietly and then lean back with a small somewhat relieved sigh. She'd look down at her da, unsure of what to really say and just let out a baffled sound.
The meicrackmon gingerly picked up one letter, frowning a little bit as she didn't recognize just where it was from and would slice it open with a claw. Gently pulling out the letter from inside; she'd open in up and furrow her brow. The envelope it was in was pretty simple, no real special markings other than the school's symbol. She'd scratch at her head, reading it and leaning just a little bit to show her Da with that look of confusion still plastered on her face.
Just what was she looking at?

"Hehe... yeah!"
Syre was just so elated, her words were largely failing her! Feeling her heart-rate rise from sheer excitement, she returned K's hearty hug, and showed the acceptance letter to Holly. For the past few weeks, this was everything that she had worked for, wanted, and worried about. She couldn't have been more excited, now looking into the details of just what to do next!
Holly, meanwhile, would find the opposite problem: so much exposure. With so many, Mikemon looked on as Holly opened the first - not a class invitation, but one that was an invite for a researching group in Terminus. The next was for an actual set of classes of Math in Terminus, and there were several for smaller schools in Whitewater! Mikemon gave a nervous chuckle, both at the first she'd open and any more she'd look at.
"I didn't think it would end up being this much, Holly. Don't get me wrong, its great that so many are looking for you..." But this seemed like a little much, even for him.
This time, though, Syre spoke up: "I mean, my sis is smart! She doesn't have to make up her mind right now if she doesn't want to..."
