The Teacher's a Pet [Leith]

"Whoa, hang on. That was two champion-level digivolutions in just a few minutes," Leith noted to himself, but aloud, after the second healing session. "Shout, you were bedridden all day after three digivolutions over a few hours." The implication was probably clear without any additional help: that teacher was probably a lot tougher than he apparently looked. "Either way, this is nuts. Digimon fights just have way too many variables to both predict and maintain conscious awareness of." Still, even Leith was at least trying his best to soak it in between idle conversation. After all, he wasn't a passive observer to this sort of combat anymore. In his last fight he had discovered his new power with special cards. "I guess I gotta know for card picking and timing, but... still. Have I ever mentioned how uncomfortable I am with the power to change the terrain or summon fire?"
"You get used to it," Veemon responded cheekily.
Soon as Owen called for volunteers one more time, Shoutmon tried to be first with his arm in the air to increase his chances of getting called on. However, as he stood directly next to the friendly Gumdramon, he found that he did not get his arm up first but, in fact, at the same time as the other eager little drake. This sight made the rocker digimon glance at his fan and smirk, though he didn't say anything in case he wasn't actually called upon. Should he be, however, he would then maliciously chuckle, which itself probably said something like what he was thinking: I'm gonna drop you on your pretty purple butt in front of your Daddy.

Admittedly, evolving and de-digivolving like this for Owen was something of an effort. However, since he was capable of Mega digivolution, it wasn't so tough on him to simply shift between Rookie and Champion to access his healing techniques. Just as long as there was enough time in between these evolutions for him to do so, and just as long as he did it no more than three times. Admittedly, this would be the last spar he would supervise today, so he hoped to make it count.
Owen looked to see that Shoutmon and Bezil both volunteered for this final round. The Gaomon smiled. He had noticed that Bezil had been interacting with the red drake digimon in a friendly way as they watched, so, he hoped that they'd be able to battle without it getting too out of hand. Yet... there was something about these two - the Shoutmon and Veemon, something in the way that they conducted themselves. They had seen heavy combat before and were experienced. So, would he be doing his son a favour by picking him for this battle?
The Gaomon considered it, then decided on the match. "Okay. Shoutmon, Bezil, you're up for this one" he said. For a moment he questioned his decision, because he didn't want to see his son brutally beaten down here. But... Bezil had been handling himself well in battle lately, and seemed to be yearning to find an opponent that would truly test him. Owen hoped that Shoutmon would be able to help his son more in this field.
And so Bezil eagerly stood up, brushed the grass off his fuzzy white butt, and advanced to the battlefield, standing at the usual length of 20 feet from his opponent.
"Best of luck, Shoutmon!" he called out to him. "How about we have a little wager, eh? Loser has to buy the winner a drink at the inn!"
Owen initially was about to object to this, then realized that digimon younger than Bezil were free to drink as they pleased. Well, so be it.
"Alright, guys... begin!" Owen announced, letting the battle commence. Bezil then gripped his own tail, then swung the hammer around his head, his yellow eyes fixed with Shoutmon's, seemingly bracing for whatever he would attack with first. His tail was elastic enough so that the hammer extended at least four feet around him. Bezil was prepared to defend or attack from this, but waited for the moment for Shoutmon to make his move.

Aren't you a little young for booze? was Leith's initial thought in answer to raising the stakes, followed by, Then again, they're like the same age... though that might actually support my original point.
"Oh, I like where this is goin'!" was the fired-up drake's answer to the same thing. "Deal." After the fighters took their spots but before Owen gave the go order, Shoutmon reached out at the air and grasped at it beside himself. It looked like he grabbed only air until his fist closed, at which point his trusty battlestaff/microphone materialized right inside his fist. He followed that up with a display of rapid twirls and spins, at the end of which he tossed it up a few feet and caught it while it was upside-down on the top of his foot. He balanced it there carefully for a few seconds before bouncing it up a couple feet again, flipping it right side-up in the process, and finished by catching it with both hands and slamming the base into the ground so hard that the spikes were completely buried under earth.
Leith and Veemon simultaneously scoffed, "Showoff," at each other. Still, it was undeniable that Shoutmon knew how to handle his weapon.
Owen gave the go signal about then, but Shoutmon did not either prepare for an attack or a defense. Instead he called to the audience, "Yo, Leith! Gimme some fight music!"
"Are you serious?"the Tamer groaned.
"Come on, man! Help a buddy out!"
Somehow, the human managed to chuckle with amusement and sigh in embarrassment at the same time. He relented, however, and picked a song he knew Shoutmon loved to blast from his digivice. "Happy now?"
"Damn straight!" Shoutmon exclaimed that before remembering his manners - sort of - and turning toward Owen. "My bad, Teach. 'Darn straight!'" he amended with an exaggerated, intentionally absurd sort of enthusiasm for the more polite curse. It was at this point that Shoutmon's head finally seemed to be in the game.
Shoutmon's a whole different beast from Vee. Veemon tried a couple feints to keep Bearmon on his heels, but the fact is Shoutmon's the real tricky one. You wouldn't think it from his attitude, but I've seen him go at it with Veemon, and the fact is he's the smarter one. The problem is he's got one giant weakness that I'm not even sure he knows about. The question, then, is whether the son of the combat instructor has the smarts or the education to figure it out.
While Leith analyzed Shoutmon, Shoutmon was analyzing Bezil. Usin' his own tail like a held weapon? Looks like it's got some reach. I bet he could even throw it a few feet, and it'll just spring right back to him like a boomerang since, duh, tail. No way he could hit me this far out, though; that's crazy. So the only reasons he's waiting for me are that he can hit me with somethin' else, he expects me to get in close, he's sure he can slip my first attack... or he's just bleeding-heart good sport. Shoutmon uprooted his mic and started to slowly, casually swagger in a circle around Bezil until he was standing in front of that depression he'd noticed earlier. All of those reasons are invalid.
When Shoutmon was where he wanted to be was when he at long last made a move. Dodge this, fuzzbutt. Shoutmon inhaled the biggest breath he could, brought his mic to his face, and screamed into it, "Gutteral GROOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWLLLLLLLLLLLL!" Leith and Veemon had to cover their ears to bring the noise down from 'ear-splittingly loud' to just 'absurdly loud.'
Shoutmon thinks Bezil is ready for a weapon or a projectile but not a sonic attack. That actually might be kinda brilliant, Leith managed to think through the long, extended amplified metal growl. But he's still a fucking asshole! Shoutmon attacked Bezil with Gutteral Growl. -Gutteral Growl: This digimon turns on his microphone and screams into it at maximum volume to deal sonic damage against any opposing digimon who hear it.

Bezil was impressed at Shoutmon's deft handling of the staff, already he was getting excited about the thrill of the fight. Even if Owen had so far raised him to be good and gentle, well, a dragon digimon with beast data like him was hardly likely to not enjoy the prospect of a good scrap.
Furthermore, Shoutmon's partner added some music to the mix from his digivice. Given the lyrics of the song, Owen shrugged off Shoutmon's curseword. "Eh, bit late for that I guess, not that I mind" he said.
Bezil turned to face Shoutmon, eyes locked with his, watching every movement he made. He remembered what his dad had taught him, eyes on the opponent's arms and legs, it was then that he noticed the small depression of the rain channel. 'Ah, I see...' he thought.
Then Shoutmon inhaled deeply, it was then that Bezil saw the opening. As Shoutmon made his attack, Bezil's hammer began to glow a pale blue, a chilling mist coating it, then with a shout of "Frosty Tail!" he swept it hard and sent a blade of freezing wind straight at Shoutmon, aiming at his legs.
Unfortunately, doing that meant he had to take Shoutmon's Gutteral Growl attack, and Bezil felt his eardrums rattle as the sound-based attack struck him, staggering back a few steps. It hurt, yes, but he felt that he could take it, just needed to focus... and get his ears back to normal.
Many in the audience had also been struck by the intense soundwaves, many of them holding their paws to their ears, complaining from the blast of sound.
"Careful with the collateral there, Shoutmon!" Owen called, barely able to hear himself.
Bezil is hit by Gutteral Growl and counters with Frosty Tail.

Whoops. Leith hadn't even thought about the music until the deed was already done. Oh, well; it seemed Owen wasn't going to chew him out for it, but Shoutmon definitely would have if it stopped. So Leith, a little ashamed but able to live with it, kept the tunes coming. From Shoutmon, though, they promptly ceased soon as that tail swung. Even though the red digimon was screaming his guts out, he was also keeping both eyes open and locked on Bezil. That meant he had fair warning of the incoming Frosty Tail.
From there, dealing with it was a simple matter. Shoutmon hardly had to move. All he had to do was end his own attack (something his lung capacity would have forced him to do anyway) and spin his mic 180 degrees to make it upside-down. The fact that he stabbed the spikes on top into the ground was more for effect than for any practical purpose, because that wasn't necessary for the microphone to suck up the freezing air like a vaccuum cleaner. The wind was sucked in through the microphone grills and seemed well and truly trapped inside. This result got Shoutmon to momentarily pause and laugh hysterically like he'd just heard a hilarious joke. "Ha! Holy crap, dude, you came out swingin'!" He bent over, then, trying to draw breath back after that prolonged growl and hard laughter. "Dude, look I'm sorry. I'm not laughin' at you. That looked really strong. Nice attack. I'm just... I really, really love using this move."
"Stop telegraphing, you moron," Leith muttered to himself.
But Shoutmon once again took his time. It seemed he was happy to keep the pace of this fight nice and slow... and he was still having trouble getting his laughter to die down. Even when he next moved, he was still lightly chuckling... but that was his attempt to get Bezil unfocused. In between just before Bezil next blinked and after it, Shoutmon had turned from a cackling maniac into a cool, collected digimon who was swinging his mic in an arc at Bezil even though he was much too far away to score a melee hit. That wasn't his intention, though: the swing's true purpose was to throw the attack that was stored in the microphone grill right back at its origin. You probably thought I wanted to take cover because I got close to cover. But you were wrong, and I was right: you're pretty proud of that tail, aren't you? For that reason, Shoutmon reflected, "Frosty Tail!" with his aim set on Bezil's tail. Shoutmon used Feedback Blast in order to block and reflect Frosty Tail at Bezil. -Feedback Blast: This digimon uses his microphone to absorb a damaging ranged ability targeting him or an ally and sends the same attack back at its user. The reflected attack is sent back with all its additional effects still applying to the original user but only at 66% its original damage (if the original attack has a damage booster, the reflected attack is sent back with that boost nullified).
Feedback Blast may only be used four times per fight due to the permanent damage the microphone may sustain from further attempted use. For the same reason, Feedback Blast may only be used against attacks of rookie level or below. Cooldown: 2 posts.

Bezil gasped and Owen's eyes widened at the effect of Shoutmon's ability. It seemed that he had the power to absorb projectile attacks. The Gumdramon narrowed his yellow eyes and gave a grin, that was impressive there. However, now that he knew Shoutmon had this ability, it was another thing to be careful of in the fight. "You seem pretty sure of yourself there, mate" Bezil replied to Shoutmon's gloating, panting a little from the exertion needed to both launch that attack and reeling from Shoutmon's strike at him. Bezil had noted that Shoutmon's microphone emitted a little bit of mist. It had sucked in his previous attack, and if it did, it may be coming right back at him. Then as Shoutmon struck back, launching the icy blast back at him, Bezil roughly expected that, then jumped into the air, somersaulting once, then shouted "Pyro Wave!" and slammed his tail on the grass, sending a wave of fire rushing at Shoutmon, the flames countering the icy blast, steam rushing around the field as a result. Some of the fire may have passed too, continuing through to Shoutmon if he wasn't careful. Owen took note of the effect of this ability, then explained to the class. "Shoutmon's got the advantage here in ranged attacks, in both attack and defense" he said. 'So if Bezil doesn't want to lose here, he's going to have to close in and try things at close range' he thought. He wouldn't say that though, while he did love his son, he still had to be impartial. Bezil knew to do that though, and rushed forward across the grass, using the steam from the explosion as a cover. He'd have to beware though, he knew Shoutmon's Gutteral Growl attack packed a punch and could hit at any time. He zig-zagged to try and hide his movements, but his footsteps could still be heard. Bezil counter-attacks the Frosty Tail with Pyro Wave. Since his own attack's 33% stronger, some of it may follow through to affect Shoutmon if he does nothing to block or evade it.
Pyro Wave - Bezil's tail hammer ignites with fire. Then he jumps up in the air, somersaults once, then slams it into the ground, sending a wave of fire at the enemy and any others standing within 5 meters of them. If it hits, removes the debuffing effect of Frosty Tail early. [Cooldown: 1 turn]

"Kid can move!" Shoutmon had to give credit where it was due. After all, he managed to meet his own attack halfway without the usual shock of having one's own ability used against one's self. Knowing how his own ability worked, though, Shoutmon also knew to move the heck out of the way if it was countered thusly. Nevertheless, he was still forced to hiss, "Agh!" as his own tail, unlike Bezil's, failed to escape the attack area in time. Oh, well; there wasn't too much time to gripe about it.
The good news for Shoutmon was that Bezil's next move was predictable. We both saw Falcomon's fight, which means we both know why trying to hit me from that cloud is a bad idea. He wants to get closer. Shoutmon started running backwards fast as his legs could carry him, jumping over that little channel in the process, eyes-front so that he could keep his eyes on that cloud. Clever kid isn't running straight, but I don't need to know where he is if I know where he's going: to me. Shoutmon already knew instinctively that the best range to keep your opponent at in a mixed-range fight was fluid, but it also tended to be what ever distance the opponent doesn't want. For that reason the red drake resisted Bezil's attempts to close in by trying to maintain distance. This, so he hoped, would allow him to stay in control of the skirmish's tempo. And I also don't need to know where you are if my attack isn't directional.
"Ah, shit," Leith muttered as he and Veemon covered their ears again. "Does he have to?"
"GUTTERAL GROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWLLLLLLLLLLLL!" Shoutmon was hit by Pyro Wave. -The previous post's Feedback Blast reduced the damage by two thirds. Bezil didn't look it, but, combined with the data of his experienced parents and Owen tutoring him whenever the possibility arose, it would be difficult for him to pick up on something that would have just happened. In fact he wouldn't be able to explain it come to think of it, but, here on the battlefield, experiencing real pain from a direct attack, his instincts seemed to change.
Back when they were chatting, Bezil would focus on Shoutmon's facial expressions, speech, things that were important about social interactions. Now he was focusing on Shoutmon's stance, legs and arms, how he was holding his mic staff, even his tail, things that were important in combat. 'This must be what it was like for dad when he was a soldier' he thought to himself.
But he had no hatred for Shoutmon in this fight, he simply fought because he wanted to test himself. The only stakes were a drink later, but, Bezil didn't want to insult Shoutmon by fighting at half-strength, therefore he pressed onward with all he had, running at him at top speed. Him running all-out should be faster than Shoutmon running backwards after all. He jumped over the depression as he passed it.
The Gumdramon really had no defense against the Gutteral Growl attack that came his way other than to put his paws over his ears to limit the damage. While his eardrums were now semi-protected, the attack still made his face throb and his teeth vibrate if he clenched them. The soundwaves made ripples through his fur, but, he pressed on. 'I can take this! I gotta press through!' he told himself. He noted that Shoutmon seemed to want to maintain distance here. He gave a grin, this was the way to win!
Bezil continued forward, running at Shoutmon, then, when he was six feet away, grabbed his own elastic-like tail, then with a cry of "Hammer Smash!" aimed to strike a horizontal sweep at Shoutmon, aiming to knock that mic staff right out of his grip!
Owen watched all this with eagerness, but made sure to explain things as best he could. "Sometimes, you have to just go all-in and take the hit if you want to take the opportunity in a fight" he said. "You should be wary about taking damage, but don't be scared of doing so. If you know you can take it, go for it".
But Bezil hadn't yet seen the full extent of Shoutmon's abilities yet, so doing so at this point was somewhat risky.

Things happened exactly as Shoutmon had predicted and almost exac tly as he had wanted. Bezil did indeed want to get close, but at least Shoutmon had bought himself time for one more long-range attack like he wanted. When it became clear Shoutmon couldn't maintain the range, he was quick enough to switch it up and prepare for close combat. After all, he was perfectly capable of that as well. As Bezil charged in hammer in hand, the move was obvious: Shoutmon attempted to block it with his staff.
The problem was that Shoutmon's angle of holding the weapon were as if the digimon were the target of the hit. Bezil, on the other hand, was looking straight at the weapon itself. This meant his grip and angle didn't compensate for the right angle and power behind the blunt force impact. "Too slow, rook-" Put more simply, when Bezil's hammer struck the metal stand with a metallic *clang* sound, Shoutmon lost his grip, and the impact both made the microphone fly a few feet away from Shoutmon and even bent it about twenty five degrees out of shape. "Crap!"
All of a sudden, Shoutmon didn't look like he was enjoying this fight so much anymore. He inhaled fast and held the same face as if he'd been the one who was hit. The fact was that every one of his attacks relied on keeping that battlestaff in hand, and without it he was extremely vulnerable. Shoutmon only had one real option, then: he had to get it back. Shoutmon hoped to time a kick to the stomach right after Bezil disarmed him to keep the furry dragon from raising a defense, but the point wasn't really damage this time. Shoutmon just wanted an extra half-second to run a couple of steps, dive, recover his staff, and roll back onto his feet if he was allowed to complete the entire maneuver.
What do you know? He did figure it out, Leith mused, referencing the big weakness he meant earlier, Vee likes to fight unarmed, but Shoutmon is helpless without a weapon. That makes me wonder... From his back pocket, Leith extracted a small leather pouch made specifically for holding his special cards. I bet I have a card that'd re-arm Shoutmon if this ever happens again. Actually, looking through them, I've got a few. Of course, the Tamer knew having a deck out while his partner was in a sporting match and probably without the same power was bad optics, so to preempt that he declared, "I'm not using these, I promise. I'm just looking."
Shoutmon attacked Bezil with a basic kick to the stomach.

Bezil had recognized Shoutmon's staff as his main defense in battle. And from education from his father, he knew the most effective way to break through an opponent's defense was to disarm them, hence his choice in target. The key to Shoutmon's attack and defense was his mic staff. And so that's why Bezil picked it as his target. Bezil's yellow eyes widened at first as he realized he had been able to knock it out of his hands, then narrowed with glee as he realized his sparring partner was now wide open. However, Bezil's inexperience in battle meant that once he had made his strike, he failed to immediately come up with a follow-on attack that would have helped him win decisively. Shoutmon was almost half a foot taller than him, so as Bezil stood there after his strike, Shoutmon's kick knocked him back a few steps, preventing him from following through with a combination or a grappling move. However, Bezil still had his wits about him, he knew where Shoutmon was going, and he had the power to make an attack of his own. In a split second, he decided on which attack to use. Pyro Wave would take too long, so in the moment it took for Shoutmon to grab his staff, he made his hammer chill with cold, then sent an attack in a sweeping motion. To try and catch his opponent off guard, he said nothing as he attacked again with Frosty Tail, sending another blade of Ice, not at Shoutmon, but at the space between him and his staff, aiming for his right arm. Shoutmon would have to run through the ice blade to get to it quickly, and given how his expression had changed so quickly when he had disarmed him, Bezil predicted that's where Shoutmon would run here. "Important principle of battle - take care to always keep your weapon on you if you have it" Owen told the class. "If you lose access to it, you lose your access to fighting, and that'll be really bad. So think of ways to prevent yourself from being disarmed".He then noticed Leith looking at some cards. This made the Gaomon curious. "Oh... you have those too?" Owen asked, interested. He reached into his tunic pocket, revealing his own deck of similar cards. "I came across these and a device a few weeks ago... hmm..." he was then struck with an idea. "Hey, if it's alright with you, how about we add some of these cards to their spar? Just to demonstrate some more battle abilities?" he gave a proud look at the battlefield. "They seem to be pretty evenly matched there, so, why not? Plus the Bronze grade cards probably shouldn't be too risky to use".
In truth, Owen hadn't used it yet in a battle. He'd be interested to see how they worked, especially in a sparring setting like this.
Bezil is struck by Shoutmon's kick and is pushed back a little. He takes minor damage.
Bezil uses Frosty Tail in an attempt to strike Shoutmon as he runs to his staff, aiming for his right arm.

Shoutmon would have liked to shout at Owen that keeping a grip on one's own weapon should be a no-brainer and to quit rubbing it in, but even he knew such words would be empty given he was the reason they were spoken in the first place.
Leith looked up and was a bit startled when he noticed the Gaomon was standing right by him and displaying his own collection of little rectangular power containers. He thought he was about to get scolded, but the exact opposite happened; Owen was inviting him to try them out. Leith considered the proposal a moment before agreeing, "That would- that would be great, actually. I could learn a thing or two myself about these things. And, frankly, the way your boy's fighting, Shout could probably use a hand." Leith spoke that compliment with a little smile, but the truth was he more appreciated the invitation for his own sake. The power contained within those cards was practically god-like in some of his cases, and if Leith was honest he'd say that much power in his hands frightened him a lot, not a little. A safe chance to work with low-level cards, then, sounded like a nice low-level formal introduction to them. Too bad that couldn't have come before he really needed them, but at least it was there now.
Leith had to make his move quick if he was going to make one at all, though. Shoutmon was under fire - well, frosty wind - on his way to rearm himself. It was on instinct, then, that Leith acted, not with thought like he would have liked. Shoutmon grunted as he inadvertently dived straight into the path of Bezil's attack and took the hit from Frosty Tail right on his dominant right arm. At the same moment, Leith just past the crowd of students to step on the battlefield, summoned his D-Arc into his left hand tossed his card choice up with his right, caught it with the same hand, and frantically swiped. "Digi-Modify: Lunamon's Tear Shot!"
"What?" For a moment Shoutmon was stunned and struggling to rise, as the hit made him fall short of his mic stand. Still worse, his right arm couldn't help him get back up, as Shoutmon felt a warning sting when he just slightly tensed it to try. However, he wasn't quite as helpless as he had been thanks to his Tamer's interference. Shoutmon gave up on trying to stand and instead stayed flat on the ground, but as he pointed his left arm in Bezil's direction water seemed to materialize in front of his left hand. "Tear Shot!" he cried at Bezil when that extremely dense ball about the size of a baseball shot itself at Bezil.
Shoutmon didn't stick around to wait and see if it worked. He got to scrambling forward fast as his two feet and one hand could let him without standing, sacrificing that advantage to be sure as he could be that he got his mic staff back. While he did, though, Leith muttered to himself about his mistake out loud. "Crap! I could've just nullified the attack and rearmed Shoutmon if I used Renamon's card to get him beside his mic..." The young man grit his teeth and slammed his own fist into his head once; it seemed his perceived error truly discouraged him. Shoutmon was hit in the right arm by Frosty Tail and failed to recover his microphone stand.Leith used Lunamon on Shoutmon. -DS-03 Card Name: Lunamon Type: Digimon Rank: Bronze Duration: 1 Post Tear Shot: The target Digimon fires a small, hardened ball of water at their opponent. Owen's advice wasn't intended to rub Shoutmon's misfortune in, but instead was an endorsement of Bezil's tactics. Still though, Owen was glad that Leith agreed to try these out. Ideally, Owen would have asked if Bezil was okay with this too, but, he supposed that his son needed lessons that were both expected and unexpected. He hoped that Bezil would forgive him for allowing this new layer of battle without his immediate knowledge, especially with him attempting to lay down his advantage in the fight.
But, on the whole, this was Owen's lesson to teach. And at the end of the day, both digimon would be healed from their wounds and better equipped for the world. So, Owen would acknowledge the additional part of the battle.
Bezil meanwhile gave a triumphant grin as his Frosty Tail hit the mark this time. But this grin faded as the new part of the battle became apparent to him. "W-what?" he asked, temporarily confused.
Owen immediately caught on that this would be a bad turn of events for his son. Bezil was weak to water attacks, and a water attack would be heading at him soon. And so, the Gaomon ran the Betamon card through his D-MR and countered. "Digimodify: Betamon's Water Tower!"
"Dad, w-what?!" Bezil asked, turning around.
"Don't hesitate, Bezil, do it now!" Owen barked. And so Bezil, finding his right paw was currently glowing with blue energy, then saw Shoutmon preparing a water projectile attack at him, put two and two together, then reacted, flinging his paw upward. Just as the attack came at him, a geyser of water burst from the ground, aiming to defend from it. The Tear Shot was engulfed by the tower, meaning its overall effect was to knock a splash of water from it so that it showered over Bezil. However, since this was data used with the intent to attack, it was not at all harmless. As the water splashed down over Bezil, he flinched and twitched over how much it stung.
Right, okay, Bezil understood now. There were more elements to a battle than he thought. He needed to be prepared for them, and so, with cards now in the mix, he readied himself for the next one.
Owen used Betamon on Bezil. - DS-01 Card Name: Betamon Type: Digimon Rank: Bronze Duration: 1 Post Electric Shock: A bolt of electricity is fired from the target Digimon Water Tower: The target Digimon causes nearby water to shoot up in the shape of a tower.

Leith felt very, very guilty about Bezil being so shocked and confused about his intrusion into the battle. Whoops. OK, after this whole thing is over I'll explain that this was the dog's idea and that I'm not just being a dick who wants Shout to win a casual spar that bad. Then again, by the look on Shoutmon's face he had to conclude, Maybe 'casual' isn't the right word anymore.
Shoutmon, on the other hand, felt a lot less regret for the result of Bezil accidentally attacking himself in the process of trying to block Shoutmon's attack. Maybe that end was still better for Bezil but not by much. Without a chance to get at Shoutmon, though, the red drake finally managed to reach his mic stand. The problem? One of his arms was still shot while he was staring at a two-handed weapon. ...Fuck it, was Shoutmon's justification then for squeezing the bent staff first with his left hand and then, more painfully, his right.
His arm screamed in rebellion, but Owen did earlier advise to stand one's ground and take the pain if one could. Shoutmon did, but the grimace on his face didn't give any illusions about being happy about it. Shout's starting to feel the fight. No, it wasn't just a pained grimace; Shoutmon was starting to breathe heavier and more just a bit more sluggishly. The fact was the hits and fatigue were starting to pile up a little high. Still, he knew what he'd signed up for, and he hadn't lost hope yet.
So, Shoutmon stood and charged once his two hands were wrapped around his beloved, albeit damaged tool. "Ya love that hammer, kid? Let's see how you handle a little blunt force trauma yourself!" It looked like Leith was considering all his card options as he watched, but in the end he abstained from using any of them. His reasoning was that there had to be right times to just stay out of his partner's way, and this sure as heck looked like one. Shoutmon was looking awfully intense as he used both arms to swing his staff at Bezil's skull like a baseball batter looking for a home run. "Stand Smash!" Leith stood still and did nothing, feeling like kind of a jerk for surprising Bezil like that.Shoutmon used his right arm and took damage. Shoutmon attacked Bezil with Stand Smash. -Stand Smash: This digimon uses his microphone stand like a blunt weapon and beats the opponent with it to deal blunt force damage.
Shoutmon's right arm is no longer debuffed.

With Bezil looking so confused, Owen felt bad about agreeing to add this layer to the battle. For the moment he had justified it by trusting that Bezil could adapt to it quickly. And, even though there had been a minor setback with this current flurry, Bezil seemed to be able to stay in the game for the time being.
Even so, the Gumdramon was panting with exertion. He'd been hit several times, but he hadn't yet shown any sign of critical fatigue. If he did, then Owen would've called off the fight right there. But, on the contrary, Bezil seemed to be grinning at Shoutmon, delighted at the thrill of battle.
That was indeed Bezil's feelings. He thought that Shoutmon would have knocked him down much earlier than now and that already Owen would be all over them, administering healing and he'd have to accept his loss. But... he was still in this. Yes, everything hurt - his ears especially, but, that he was still standing after... he'd forgotten how many rounds of combat against Shoutmon, this was enough triumph right here.
Shoutmon then voiced something about his hammer and blunt force trauma. Given that Bezil's eardrums were still throbbing, he couldn't hear exactly, but, Owen did, and immediately scanned another card.
"Digimodify! Ballistamon's Arm Bunker!"
Bezil immediately felt something powerful in his right arm. He saw Shoutmon run at him, aiming his mic staff at his head. Baring his teeth in half-grin, half grimace of determination, Bezil punched back with all his might against the mic stand.
He felt the explosion in his paw, felt the hard steel of Shoutmon's staff against his knuckles, but felt the force of his own attack against it. The audience gasped at the energy of the exchange, feeling a small gust of wind against their fur, feathers and scales.
"Well, did I handle that okay?" Bezil asked, panting. His fist stung from that attack, but he at least had protected his head.
Owen used Ballistamon on Bezil. -ME-05 Card Name: Balistamon Type: Digimon Rank: Bronze Duration: 1 Post Arm Bunker: The target Digimon punches their opponent heavily, creating a small explosion in their fist. Heavy Speaker: A speaker appears in the target Digimon's chest, which it emits a harsh tone from.
Bezil used Arm Bunker to counter Stand Smash. He defended his head, but his right fist smarts.
Frosty Tail cooldown: 2/2

Bezil's punch and father's choice of cards had an absolutely disastrous effect on Shoutmon. For starters, he felt the shockwave from the little burst which even made him stumble back one step but did not knock him over or really hurt him. He hardly even felt the vibration in his hands, but that wasn't good news for him. The explosion met the end of Shoutmon's mic stand, which had already been compromised the last time Bezil smashed it. This time his microphone snapped in two complete pieces that ended at the point of bending, and the top half flew so far as to land just at Owen's feet.
"Alright, now I gotta do something..." As much as Leith might have liked just to call the fight at this point (it was going much farther and longer than the others, after all), Owen still hadn't, and he wasn't going to ask him to. He wasn't going to get that option in the next one, after all. So, he sifted through his remaining bronze cards, which were luckily few enough that he could gather all his options at just a glance. With Shoutmon disarmed for good this time, Leith thought the right one was obvious. As was his habit, he tossed it upwards about a foot and caught it in the same hand before swiping. "Digi-modify: Rowdy Rocker!"
Maybe it was only temporary, and maybe it wasn't exactly the same, but for a little while Shoutmon was armed with a weapon he was fairly familiar with: a microphone battle staff. Like usual, he reached out into the air, and it only appeared when he closed his fist. While momentarily flustered by disarmament, Shoutmon's confidence was back in spades with Leith's help. "Take two!" he shouted before swinging this new mic stand in a downward motion for the top of Bezil's head, now aided by the force of gravity to boot. Maybe this swing wasn't infused with whatever data gives digimon their special power, but Leith and Veemon still both pitied whoever might have been on the receiving end of it. Leith used Rowdy Rocker on Shoutmon.-ME-21 Card Name: Rowdy Rocker Type: Modify Rank: Bronze Duration: 3 Posts Effect: The target Digimon summons Shoutmon's mic. While no more powerful than a usual basic attack, strikes made with the Rowdy Rocker disorient enemies briefly. Shoutmon attacked Bezil with a basic attack incorporating the Rowdy Rocker mic.
Shoutmon is wielding the Rowdy Rocker mic: 2 posts remaining.
