Bezil gave a triumphant grin as Shoutmon's mic shattered from his attack. The battle was surely his to win now! And Owen thought that too as a part of the mic flew over to land at his feet. Without a weapon, Shoutmon would have no chance to defend against Bezil's onslaught.
But no, it seems with Leith's card, he once again had another mic to use. As he was summoning it, the Gaomon thought that this should probably be the end of it and call it a draw.
"I think that's probably enough..." Owen began hesitantly, but Bezil turned to look at him, a kind of fire in his eyes. Not a literal one, just a determined kind of expression.
"Please, dad, just one more round?" he asked. Owen turned to see that the other young digimon in the audience were watching with expressions of excitement on their faces. That and Shoutmon was still clearly intending to fight. How could Owen refuse?
"Alright, but don't make me regret it..." he began, looking for another card, but Bezil shook his head.
"No cards!" he said, as Shoutmon approached with a new microphone. "I got this!"
Bezil then jumped, backflipped once to build up momentum, then with a cry of "Hammer Smash!" aimed upward to counter Shoutmon with his hammer, but it seemed with this motion he had missed his timing. The hammer would not rise fast enough to block it from hitting his head, instead it would strike Shoutmon's gut. This resulted in the mic staff striking Bezil hard on his head, sending him back to the ground, landing in a heap.
"D-did I win...?" he asked, thinking it would be a nice idea to simply lay on the grass and look at the sky, as three blurry Gaomons appeared over him and asked if he was okay. "Might... need a moment here, dads" he said.
"Okay, that's enough for now!" Owen called, wanting an immediate end to the spar. It was clear that Bezil was no longer capable of fighting. Whatever had happened to Shoutmon though?
Bezil uses Hammer Smash.
Hammer Smash - Bezil's tail hammer glows with energy as he aims a heavy smash at them that deals enhanced damage. Deals 30% more damage to an enemy under the debuffing effect of Frosty Tail. [Cooldown: 1 turn]
Bezil is no longer capable of fighting, Owen ends the spar.

Leith was almost prepared for this exact situation. Ever since he thought about Renamon's card earlier that was his go-to in case of trouble. Kohenkyo was a blessing for avoiding an otherwise unavoidable attack. The problem this time was that this was a mutual strike in the making, meaning that the teleport would have also cancelled Shoutmon's attack. Therefore, Leith was forced to hold back and trust Shoutmon.
It worked... kind of. Shoutmon beaned Bezil good and hard, but that hammer tail must have weighed a ton - or Bezil was just that strong. Its momentum carried Bezil's backflip the rest of the way even despite the hit that would have forced the spin in the opposite direction had it been more forceful. Since it wasn't, Bezil was still able to slam the business end of his hammer straight between Shoutmon's stomach and lower gut. This managed to knock him back through the air toward his Tamer. The metalhead was barely quick enough to try and catch the red projectile, but in the process he got knocked onto his butt himself. He was uninjured, though.
For a moment, it looked like Shoutmon was trying to scream, but nothing was coming out. He pounded his fist on the ground and tried to suck in air that refused to enter him. He was breathless! "Stop! Stop the fight!" Leith had to plead from Owen then. Fortunately for everyone, it seemed the teacher agreed without Leith's help.
"Shoutmon!" As Veemon broke from the crowd to check on his comrade, Shoutmon pushed him just far enough away so the red drake could freely roll over onto all fours and beat on his own belly a couple times with his own fist. It seemed that was all he needed, however, to start breathing again. Finally, he was able to make sounds again, and the first sound he decided to make was... hysterical cackling?
Shoutmon was laughing like he was at the fight's start and finally looking up. "Damn, kid! That packs... shit, you can throw a hell of a punch!" Shoutmon was still gasping, but amazingly, still looked determined. "This ain't it! I ain't down and out yet!" Shoutmon ate his words as quickly as he proceeded to eat the dirt, arms giving out and still panting hard. That sure changed his tune. "Strike that: agh, I'm- I'm down and out yet. But I won right? Tell me I won?"
"What do you want, a trophy?" If Shoutmon was still being Shoutmon, then Leith felt fairly secure shouting across the battlefield at the others, "He's fine! Kind of!" Meanwhile, Veemon made himself useful by retrieving the two broken halves of Shoutmon's original mic stand, which Leith noticed. "Ouch. That's... is that fixable? God, please tell me that's fixable."
Shoutmon looked up long enough to notice his broken tool, and all he could do at the sight of it was groan like he'd just been hit again.
Shoutmon was hit by Hammer Smash. Shoutmon is too beat up and too sad to continue fighting.

With the third spar finished, Owen once again focused and evolved to his healing form. However, this time, he felt somewhat dazed in doing so. Even if he only did so in order to use one technique, doing so three times in a row was somewhat taxing on him. Which was surprising since he was capable of evolving to Mega. But still, he would do his best and use his Cross Light to heal both Bezil and Shoutmon as best he could. Concerningly, immediately afterward, Owen de-digivolved back to Gaomon without meaning to, which meant that his own capabilities were pretty much depleted here. Still though, as Bezil regained his awareness of the world around him, Owen spoke some last words to the class. "I hope we learned something from all this" he said. "Good strategies and bad were conducted in this spar. For example, in that last round, Bezil failed to defend against the attack aimed at his head. Bad idea in any situation. If your head gets hit by a strong attack, then it's game over for you. However, he made good strategy in aiming to disarm Shoutmon to put him entirely at his mercy".Then to his opponent. "Shoutmon's weakness in this battle was that his entire battle strategy relied upon the use of his mic staff, and at times he used it in a reckless way, which is how Bezil was able to disarm him a few times. However, his strength was that he quickly recognized his advantage in ranged combat and did what he could to keep it ranged".He couldn't let this go unsaid, though. "Also, both of them are strong headed dogged fighters that refused to give up. Sometimes, that's the thing you need most of all, it ain't over 'till it's over, so the saying goes. If you're at a disadvantage, but you can still move, then move, and see if you can turn things around".Shortly afterward, Owen called an end to the lesson. The rest of the class dispersed, while he helped Bezil walk over to Leith, Veemon and Shoutmon. Owen and Bezil grimaced at the broken staff. "Oh... gosh I'm so sorry about that" Bezil said, looking distressed. "Um... if you need any extra help in fixing it, I'll do what I can-""Bezil, don't worry about it, the mic staff is formed from Shoutmon's own data" Owen said. "If he has a good meal and a night's rest, it should be as good as new tomorrow". "I hope so, dad" Bezil replied, but it seemed logical to him. He then realized that he had a wager with these guys. "So, uh, does this mean that we buy each other drinks at the inn now?""Mate, he concussed you, are you sure you wanna have a drink right now?" Owen asked his son with concern. "I didn't say something alcoholic, dad, yeesh" Bezil had to be exasperated a little. Yeah his dad was just looking out for him, but he felt that he had performed well enough to let concerns like this slide. But, well, he supposed Owen had a point, not like Bezil was in a mood for a double scotch when he needed Owen's help to walk properly back to the Rosewood town proper. Furthermore, Owen did rather like the idea of sitting down with these guys in a more informal setting. He appreciated their help in his lesson today, and thought they were rather sporting and cool about it too. "So, guys, wanna head to the inn?" Owen asked Leith and his partners.
Owen evolves to Gaogamon and uses Cross Light to heal Bezil and Shoutmon, then de-digivolves back to Gaomon.

That makes three, Leith counted observantly after Owen's most recent evolution. Shoutmon sullenly took his two microphone pieces after getting his own two feet under him again. He frowned at them. Bezil ain't the only one who can take a punch, it seems. No way he's on the level of the twins or Cion, though... right?
"Dude, it ain't an arm or a leg. I wish I could fix it with nothing but some sleep!" was Shoutmon's response to how simple a matter Owen thought things were.
"Hmm. If we're working off an ASCENSION budget now, I think we could get you what you need to fix it. You could probably do it yourself, couldn't you?"
"Probably, if I got the right crap."
That settled, there was a more light-hearted subject on the table. The consensus, however, was not unanimous. "Ah... well, we were kind of just leaving. Our stuff's packed and stored. The only thing not ready to go is us ourselves."
Finding his counterpart was just fine after all, Veemon's mood was lifted enough for him to suggest, "Leith, I know you like sticking to the plan, but we can go to Quantum any time! There's no rush. Why not spend one more day with new friends?"
"Because our new friends just had a contest of who could sustain the most bodily injury, and I'm afraid I'll be next?" Funny as the young man thought that quip was, he realized after that it sounded like a tactful expression of reluctance when it wasn't supposed to be. Veemon was right, after all. "That's a joke! Sorry. Let me try that again: yes, hangin' out a bit sounds fun."
But Shoutmon still had a protest. "Well what's the point if we ain't gettin' the good stuff?"
"Shout, sometimes you take the 'sex, drugs, and rock and roll' a little too far."
"Get the kid there an apple juice since we're apparently bein' good boys today," was Shoutmon's order from the Koemon behind the bar.
"Are you feeling OK, Shoutmon?"
"I don't like bein' a role model," he grumbled as the monkey set a glass in front of Bezil, followed by some water for Leith and Veemon. "But man, this place has been good to us! Kinda sad to be leaving."
"Yeah, no kidding. This is kinda where I wound up after... personal stuff happened."
"Bezil, I've never seen Shoutmon disarmed like that! Was it because you learned from the best, maybe?"

Owen was a little surprised to hear this from Shoutmon. That everything wasn't immediately repairable was a bit of a shock to him. "Oh, gosh, really?" he asked, a little worried at the fact that lasting damage had been done. "Um... well... I'm so sorry about that"."I am too" Bezil added, him and his father bowing their heads with sincere apology. Neither of them had meant to deal this lasting damage against Shoutmon like this. While there was little they could do here to repair his mic staff, it was the least they could do to try and make it up to Shoutmon however they could. Owen was a little worried that they wouldn't be able to repair the damage done by the fact that it seemed that Leith and his partners were about to leave. "Oh... really?" Owen asked, a little nervously. He had heard about Ascension, how his sister Cion had founded it. He hadn't caught up with her in a while and didn't know what all this was about. "Well, if you're going back to Ascension, please say hi to my sister for me?" the Gaomon asked, a little awkwardly. "Cion, that is".Thankfully they weren't going to leave immediately. Veemon managed to hold them back a bit. Owen and Bezil both waved their arms in strict denial about his worries. "Oh, absolutely not, we'd never hurt a human" Bezil tried to say. Owen was a bit hesitant in saying the same, well, he would hurt a human that was intent on harming innocents, but, to Leith? From what he knew of him so far? As Bezil said, absolutely not.
Thankfully it seemed to be a bit of a joke here, to which Owen grinned. "Well then. To the inn it is". Shoutmon still seemed a bit pouty about the prospect of non-alcoholic drinks. Bezil gave a grin up to him to try and settle things. "Well... I think my dad's just concerned about me having alcoholic drinks" he said. "If you wanna have some, I'll buy it for you, no worries, I don't think I hit your head did I?"
When they were at the bar, Bezil gladly accepted the juice that was served. And in return, he'd speak to the Koemon. "I'd like to order Shoutmon a drink of anything he wants, alcoholic or not" the Gumdramon said, then turned to the red drake digimon. "Again... I'm really sorry I wrecked your microphone... anything I can do to help repair it, say the word and I'll do it".After that was said, Bezil turned to Veemon, who asked him about how he managed to disarm Shoutmon like that. Bezil grinned and was eager to respond to that. "Yeah, that's training from dad there. He taught me to always aim for the thing that can hurt me most in battle, since once that's out of the way, I have a much better chance of victory. So if I aimed for Shoutmon's staff, then I could beat him better, but... seems there's more to it than just that, eh?" he asked rhetorically. Owen also picked up on their conversation. "Is that right? You're heading out of Rosewood today?" he asked. "Well, you'll be missed, I can say that. But I hope we can meet again. I dunno if I can speak for the whole of Rosewood, but, we for two will miss you"."Like hell you don't!" a Dracomon cheered, overhearing, waving a tankard of beer. "Haunted Threnody is always welcome in Rosewood! Just don't forget about us on your world tour, okay?"Other digimon in the bar cheered that motion. Owen and Bezil chuckled and raised their glasses of juice at that.

Of course, Leith and Veemon couldn't just snub their fans by not participating. Veemon and Leith raised their own glasses and drank with as much cheer as the rest of the place, even if it was just water. Shoutmon, however, couldn't because he still didn't have one in his hand! "Well, then what'll it be, boss?"
"The usual, if he's buyin'!"
"Shoutmon, don't be greedy." Leith shuddered to think of sticking Owen or Bezil with the bill of not a glass but a keg of Terabyte Tequila that had to be imported all the way from the Binary Archipelago. That wasn't the kind of beverage this place could always afford to serve, but business sure seemed to be booming as Rosewood was built up.
"Bah, fine. The usual, but like normal people do it." The Koemon snickered but got him what he wanted, making him the last to raise a glass.
Unbelievable. We actually have a following. Are we actually building something here? Well, the Tamer knew he had to change topics before his head got too big. "Here I was, friend, about to ask your name. I didn't catch it earlier. If you're Cion's brother, though, that must mean you have to be Owen. She said your name once in passing."
"We'll give her your best next time we see her," Veemon promised.
"I appreciate including me in your demonstration earlier. Truth is when I got cards in my hand, I..." Leith seemed to need a moment to word and phrase his thoughts correctly. "I was almost used to these two having way more power than anyone should have at their disposal. Where I come from, I mean!" That last part was a hasty addendum. "But these cards- I can summon rain or volcanoes. I can create powerful weapons from nothing. I can make a sentient digimon turn completely feral, and I can do it all in an instant with one little motion. And that kinda freaks me out. I know that's the kind of power most everyone here can have if they work at it or live long enough, but I almost can't help thinking that's too much for one person - especially me." Oh, boy. That was getting a little too deep, and Leith knew it. "Yeah, apparently that's my idea of casual conversation. Ha."
"Don't be so hard on yourself, Leith!" Veemon tried to encourage with a playful shove that did not knock the Tamer off of his stool.

Owen and Bezil were a little unsure of what they had agreed to here with the reaction of Leith. "Um... dad?" Bezil asked, a little unsurely at first. Thankfully Leith had convinced Shoutmon to not get carried away and settled on a normal serving, which the Gumdramon was okay with paying for.
Owen then turned to Leith. "Ah, yeah, I'm Owen" he said, giving a nod. "And yep, Cion's my sister. Glad that you've met her. She's wonderful, although much more ambitious than I am. Not that that's a bad thing or anything, but, well, she's Super Mega now and is flying around the digital world, trying to shape it in a better place, and here I am, just capable of Mega, acting as a teacher in this town. Not that I'd have it any other way though, I'm happy with what we have here".
For the moment, at least. While things were still peaceful.
On the subject of cards though, Owen took a sip of his drink, a light cider, then looked up at the human to respond. "Yeah, no worries there. I haven't used them myself either, and I thought, well, here's my son out there, evenly matched in a friendly spar, so, let's have a go, so, guess that's all she wrote so to say".
"Yeah... the cards can make some pretty crazy things happen, eh?" Bezil agreed. "Like turn the ground into a swamp or summon meteors or activate the Seal of the Orichalkomalos or..."
"Mate, easy there" Owen told his son, managing to secure the Gumdramon's balance as his concussion made him seem to sway a little on his stool. Bezil's eyes lost focus for a few moments before he remembered where he was.
"Ah, there I am" he said, regaining his balance. "So, you guys seem pretty well travelled! Wanna share some stories of what you've been up to around the digital world?" the Gumdramon asked eagerly, sipping his juice.
Well, it seemed for the moment that all was well with this new friendship. Owen and Bezil had decided they rather liked Leith, Veemon and Shoutmon, and had so far not heard anything that might make them have second thoughts on that. They supposed after this little chat, they'd part on good terms, and looked forward to when they'd next see them.
