How to Publicly Shame a Furry (Bass/409)

Post by Haru Toriya and Tawna on Jan 12, 2019 23:47:07 GMT
Haru didn't exactly know what kinda feeling Alice was trying to convey... freedom, power and excitement, yet imminent danger from yourself? It wasn't something the girl was familiar with... the only dangers she had personally faced were those that reared their ugly heads and tried to eviscerate her... once with success.
Haru mused to herself about the potential of a trip to Luminas... She really wanted to go and do club stuff again, but she was honestly terrified to death of what everyone would think of her in her current state. "I've never actually been to Luminas, but I would like to go there one day. I've just never really since Tawna has... a couple issues with it." she ended up adding in, sighing slightly at how clear Dorothy's own opinion was on Luminas... which was to say the least negative. "She was actually born there, but had... well, a really shitty childhood there. I mean... she IS a good person and there ARE good people in Luminas I'm sure. I just don't want to open up old wounds for her."
Soon enough though, the ride would come to an end... the four soon stopped at a quaint urban neighborhood at a fairly modest-looking house; it was about what you'd expect your average middle-class family would live in. A keen eye could probs catch the glimpse of a certain orange maine coone (albeit not of the Earth variety) peeking from the curtains. Haru couldn't help but awkwardly sigh, glancing at Naoko briefly as she passed them the keys to get inside before moving to the trunk to grab the pizzas.
As soon as everyone was inside and the door was locked, Tawna finally peeked her head from underneath the couch... glancing at Alice and Dorothy (if they showed their face) with curiosity. "... I didn't expect for the Toriyas to bring you guys. Uhh... long time no see?" the Champion level mused, trying their best at being friendly. Tawna was not exactly a ray of sunshine, but she was generally more sociable than the first time they ever met...

"...I think I understand what you're trying to say with that." Naoko nodded a few times, before she turned her attention to Dorothy. "That's what I thought--But apparently you can still apply for one no matter what. Also, Titania shocked a pair of guards by revealing her dad was a sun god. Believe me when I say, however, that this was...entirely unprecedented." Naoko stated, gesturing to herself.
"But yes. It worked out. Luminas...I don't have the highest opinion of them still. Though, that's because they let a corrupt Rasielmon be an official."
It shouldn't take a genius to figure out that by this point, Naoko Toriya really fucking hated cats.
She understood why Tawna might hate that place, too. If only a little bit. Speaking of, once they got home, Naoko carefully moved over to pet Tawna. "Everything go well while we were gone? We brought you some pizza."

"...Has Haru been sleepin' with you snuggled up right next to her? You two kinda feel a bit... Closer for some reason." Dorothy comments after heading inside. She's leaning forwards in a peculiar way, as if suspicious of something, but this soon vanishes. "I got problems with it, too. Ya can tell when someone's from that dump by the way they look at ya... Like they own everythin' around them." The short, blue humanoid clings to Alice a bit closer than normal, looking up at everyone with a slight frown.
All this talk about Tawna's past and Luminas makes Alice a little uncomfortable as well, given how little she actually knows about her own partner. "The fact Digimon can pass a test for a Holy Ring of their own makes it seem like they appreciate hard work, at the very least. And yes, it's been a long time. And from what I know, everyone's been busy without me, hah..." Alice pulls up a chair to sit down, not wanting to let the injury on her leg seem any more obvious than it already is. "Most of my adventures are pretty boring, to be honest. Exploration, teaching what equate to children, the occasional fight..." The green haired woman shivers upon remembering the incident she obtained Dorothy's Digimental. "Unless you think getting nearly killed by your own partner via monsters that psychologically torment and manipulate you is fun to hear about. I almost regret going to Old Terminus."
"...Uhh, yeah, that one ain't exactly a fun story."

Frankly, since she had been kinda... dead recently, Haru was not as well-informed of the happenings of the club and all. She was proud of Naoko though for being able to stand on her own two feet, as the incursion at Luinas needless to say did not sound pleasant. If she were in her sister's shoes, she'd have hated cats too. "Uh... admittingly the only Rasielmon I've ever known was well... Tawna and me, but I guess goes to show you can't judge books by their covers." Haru awkwardly mused at her sister's prior experience with Luminas, smiling lightly at Tawna as everyone soon began to get situated.
"Yeah yeah. Its not like people would try robbing the place... Well, if they did they'd get their legs broken or something." Tawna somewhat dryly responded back to Naoko, letting out a soft purr as the younger of the two Toriyas began to pet her... She might have been a warrior at-heart, but her weakness was earscritches. With how they had both more or less experienced much of the same feelings of despair and pain back then, Tawna felt she understood the lithe blue-haired girl a tad better now. The feeling of losing someone you loved hurt. A lot.
While Haru was busy getting some plates and napkins out, Tawna tilted her head in confusion at the Mienumon (she merely assuming they were Dorothy). For a moment, Tawna did not seem to register the meaning of what Dorothy was saying about snuggling with Haru, though she realized now that of course Dorothy would notice something weird. She was a Digimon after all... Holosuits weren't exactly built to deceive other Digimon really, and a keen one would have no trouble identifying something off. Guess the only valid reason why Dorothy wasn't immediately having alarms and whistles go off was since she also was a Meicoomon... Kinda helped throw off the scent. "... Its complicated." the Champion level merely spoke, glancing at Haru.
Either Haru was going to need to bust out the truth, or someone was going to find things out the hard way.
As Haru finished getting everything, she lightly set the food and other essentials down on a fairly large coffee table as she soon took a seat in the living room couch, their family's TV set having apparently been prior tuned to what appeared to be another standard magical girl anime (Haru didn't know why of all things, it was the maho shojo genre that caught Tawna's interest... but that was the case). "Help yourselves by the way... theres plenty, and we just got extra food just so we'd have easy leftovers so its not a big deal if it gets eaten." Haru sweetly offered to the Toriya house's guests as she started her plate with two slices of cheese pizza. "I dunno Alice... I wouldn't think thats boring. I mean, have we just gotten used to the Digital World to the point that stuff just doesn't phase us?" she awkwardly mused, dwelling on that fact. Even if her body was a Digimon now, her heart was still human...ish.
"Old Terminus sucks. Not even the recent city there probably is going to change the fact that its the wart of the Digital Core." Tawna ended up adding on, taking a slice for herself and going at it crust-first. "And listen, boring is fine. Thats what me and Haru have been like for the past two months. Frankly, not having to worry about the constant looming sense of danger is good for the nerves."

"...There's a city in Old Terminus?" Alice tilts her head at this fact, still flipping through the many pages of her notebook until she lands on something relatively interesting, a sketch of the Digimental she picked up. She shares it with the group. "Either way, this is what I found down there..." The sketch opposite the Digmental is a shadowy mass of eyes and teeth seemingly made from darkness, something she isn't comfortable with. "Perhaps the next time we go down there, we should try to visit... Even if that seems nearly impossible. I swear, the walls move in Old Terminus, it's like... Junk data. Garbage you're not supposed to see or even interact with."
"Yeah, Alice's got a lotta weird theories on stuff. C'mon, share a few. Better than lettin' 'em fester in that head of yours." Dorothy nudges the green haired woman before flopping down on the couch with everyone else and getting some pizza while her Tamer merely remains there, deep in thought, slightly distant as usual.
Alice shakes her head. "Well, I don't think I have enough information to make anything other than assumptions. I've looked through all the notes the Field Club had, as well as a few of Mikemon's... Don't ask... But I've come to the conclusion that everything is made of data in the Digital world, even us to some extent, and that it's easier to modify outright than people tend to think it is." She looks to Naoko now, right in the eyes, and stands up. "Did you or Titania see what I did when the Library was attacked? I guess I should just share it... Even if just thinking about it makes me uncomfortable. When Dorothy was at her Ultimate stage, I was able to do things... Things no human being should be able to get close to doing. The same... Magic Dorothy does." She sighs, then looking to Haru with a slight frown. "I'd love to demonstrate, but... I don't think it's safe for anyone. Especially me."
"You really wanna talk 'bout this?" Dorothy's eyes narrow slightly, but she eventually obliges. "Yeah, uhh... She gets sick when she does it. Didn't ya compare it to your blood bein' turned to electricity or somethin' else kinda flowery like that?" She grumbles, taking several bites out of a single pizza slice, her posture both relaxed and yet defensive. "I looked through your notes 'n I think it said somethin' 'bout headaches, constant pain and the like?"
"...That's not important. What is important is that there's the possibility that by merely being exposed to the Digital World, some part of that data has came back with us. Even if humans are flesh and blood out here, it doesn't mean we are... In there." The green haired woman takes a plate and a single slice of pizza quietly before sitting down after closing her notebook and putting it away, not wanting to let grease get anywhere near it. "I'm no expert, so I have no idea what that would actually imply or mean, but... It's a thought. Maybe I'm just crazy.

"You can't. Luckily for everyone, that Rasielmon is currently stewing in her own mistakes somewhere in hell." Naoko stated, with an air of finality to that story. As for that city... "...I've not heard too much about that. But it seems there is? I'd...need to actually go there when I head back into that place."
As for Alice's question...Naoko just gave a nod. "I remember that day pretty clearly. After all, the only reason I'm still wearing sleeves so obsessively is because that asshole left me with a scar on my arm. I remember you throwing spells at K. A lot. The fact they were doing something noticeable, too...I didn't see the conclusion of the fight. I was trying to keep the Library from catching fire with Stingmon and Carlos. I could send Titania a message...But, if you're asking me for my thoughts? Yeah, I'd agree. Something that actively sickens you and that you yourself describe as safe...It sounds insane."
Then again, Naoko had done some stuff of her own. With that out of the way? She went to fetch herself some pizza. Notably, Naoko didn't seem fazed at Haru and Tawna's reaction to the question earlier about why the former felt more like a digimon than usual. Hmmmm.

"Mmhmm... I heard its a pretty new addition though. I guess its nice to see that there are people who want to make it a better place." Haru mused, though soon enough was given a glance at the Digimental Alice and Dorothy found down there... Which just based on the sketch alone, seemed pretty messed up looking. "I... don't think those things are supposed to have eyes?"
"Theres a lot of things in the Digital World that have eyes in places that they don't belong at. You just get used to it." Tawna ended up idly commenting. The Digital World operated on very different rules than the human world, so it was fair to believe that... She herself believed everything was data there, which for Digimon like her could mean bad things. "No doubts there honestly. To the right individual, anything is food. Theres a damn good reason why people get panicky when viral Digimon get rowdy or wild... A Mega could potentially ravage an entire plot of land in a matter of hours." Her attention was especially drawn though to the mention of Alice being able to emulate that same kind of magic that Dorothy was able to use... which to say the least WAS bizarre.
"Wait... Like how does that even work? I mean, you aren't a Digimon... Nor are you a Spirit Wielder, but even they have to actually evolve to use their abilities..."[/b] Haru mumbled, caught offguard by such a revelation... if just cause it was so related to her own condition. There was no doubt in her mind that back there at the desert, she was loaded like any other Digimon... and it took basically finaggling at the Hunter's own data to get her to be reborn. Regardless, she agreed with Naoko that it was just a bad idea to use such a power. "Pl-Please don't then! I don't want you or Dorothy getting hurt..."
Tawna on the other hand was more... supportive of perhaps allowing for such an ability to be tested on. She had never heard of such a relationship between partner and tamer before, but was that reason to just discard it? "On the contrary, I think thats a sign that she has to use it more. I don't mean like all at once without warning like with K, but in a controlled environment so that they could both learn to use it properly... Its up to us to figure out if it is safe or not." the Meicoomon ended up speaking... before gazing at Haru in the eye. "I think its important for us as a group to understand how humans and Digimon are capable of interacting with eachother, even down to the level of mere bytes. Humans weren't partnered up with Digimon for no reason."
Haru felt her stomach twist into knots. ... There really was no point to hiding things now, was there? Sitting her plate down, Haru sighed slightly as she scratched the back of her head. "Honestly, I think without a doubt in my mind humans are data in the Digital World. And like you said Alice, that data could be transfigured with the right circumstances... potentially irreversibly."

"...That's what I was thinking, yes. It's easy to be converted into data, but it's a bit more difficult to get converted back, if not impossible. And we all have some sort of... I'm not sure what to call it. Digital Contamination? We are strangers in the Digital World, after all. No offense intended to anyone." It's only now that Alice realizes what Haru's implied and said, the green haired woman quickly finishing her slice and setting the plate aside on the table. "Are you saying... No, I have other questions first, that can wait."
The green haired woman shakes her head, directing her concerns to Naoko. "No. It's not safe. In fact, I'm pretty certain it's harming me. But at the same time, it's something I have to explore more. It feels... Incredible despite it being unpleasant, but it has to be studied. And seeing that I'm the only person we know who has this, I might as well willingly offer myself to science. There's still so little we know about the Digital World... But that's what the Field Club is for, right?" She chuckles to herself, looking to Dorothy, who ends up chiming in.
"Yeah. You 'n your nerd stuff...." The Mienumon seems uncomfortable talking about this, glaring at Alice while she tries to change the subject, bringing up what Haru mentioned to the forefront. "What do ya mean by irreversibly, Haru? Ya seem a lil, uhh... Uncomfortable. Like there's somethin' you really wanna say, but..." She leans back, staring at the ceiling, and sighs. "I don't think Alice is gonna judge ya for anythin' weird. I mean, can't be that much freakier than what she did."
"I won't. I've already done the impossible once, won't be surprising to hear about others doing other impossible things." Running her hand through her hair, Alice's eyes meet Haru's, and she tries to smile despite the slight tension about the subject. "You can trust me."

"...I think that's a digimon." Naoko noted at Haru's comment of the sketch. "I'm pretty sure that's some kind of Digimon. I don't know what it is, but I don't like it." Regardless, it was time to put that matter to rest. "We change enough in the Digital World to be capable of fusing with Digimon. The bleed that results can have certain effects on people. For me, it ended up turning me into...Uh. This. I'd like to say I got lucky. Haru got Meicoomon eyes at first."
She wasn't going to go into detail about the other thing unless her sister was going to start that. "...Quite honestly, I don't think I've got any tales of doing the impossible, myself. Just...being an idiot and somehow getting out okay."

"I'm gonna say outright that I don't like it. I'm sorry, but it just makes me uncomfortable seeing anyone hurt themselves. I know the Field Club wants to learn about the Digital World, but that doesn't mean we should throw our own morals away or hurt ourselves to do it." Haru added on to the conversation of Alice's power with Dorothy. She liked the idea of Alice wanting to help further the Field Club's knowledge of the Digital World, but not at their own expense! "Just please... don't overuse it, okay Alice? We're here to help you both..."
Frankly, neither subject was a bed of roses for Haru. She was very uncomfortable with this, enough to be actually sweating. Still... the words of comfort from everyone helped. Gathering her courage, Haru took a deep breath as she slowly began to recount the events. "So uh... a lil' while ago, I called in that I was sick? Well, that wasn't really exactly true..." she began to speak, glancing at Naoko awkwardly as she twiddled her thumbs. "Naoko and I were just checking up on a distress signal at the Folder Desert... and uh long story short, I kinda got... eaten?"
"Loaded. Your data was loaded." Tawna butted in, though their eyes were closed in a pained expression. Bitter memories, but fortunately just memories. "Dr. Cross fortunately was quick to attend the scene, and well.. she did what she could with what she had on-hand... your data and the killer's."
Haru nodded somewhat sadly. God, what a bizarre feeling... Telling someone that you died and were more or less frankenstein'd back to life? Not exactly something she thought she'd ever have to do. With one last breath, the girl deactivated her holo-suit... and sitting in her place was a tiny dog-like Digimon with gray fur and blue-eyes. "... I... I'm sorry for lying to you both." the viral Salamon spoke with a pitiful look in her eyes, tilting their face down.

"It has to be a Digimon." Alice looks to Naoko, having mentioning the drawing of the many-eyed shadow creature. "Just... One that didn't act like an ordinary Digimon. Most are either sapient or feral, but these... Were organized but incapable of communication. They... Turned Dorothy against me for a bit, messing with her head somehow and showing us..." The green haired woman briefly looks down, closing her eyes as she remembers things she doesn't want to. "Traumatic events, let's leave it at that. And we only got out because we found Dorothy's Digimental." Taking out her notebook again, she shares the image of it, a large, egg shaped object which appears to be in a frilly dress.
"Yeah, yeah. I get that we're all worried about Alice, but I don't think tellin' her to stop is gonna... Stop her when it comes to tryin' stuff out. She's stubborn, y'know?" Dorothy then comments on the whole situation about her own Tamer, standing up and grumbling. "But yeah, I'll tell her to stop bein' so reckless with it..."
And then the bombshell that Haru and Tawna drop is stated.
The green haired woman just stands there in stunned, solemn silence for a moment, having stood up to approach what Haru actually is, but she can't bring herself to. The thought of someone dying in the Digital World was horrible and strange enough, and now there is a living example of ideas both existentially terrifying, miraculous and downright wrong all at once. She takes a few steps forwards, and crouches down. The first words that come out of her mouth aren't those of shock or acceptance or even a "what", but something a bit more personal. "...I'm sorry you had to go through all that. I'm just glad... You're still here. Somehow." For a moment, Alice blames herself for not being there to help, to prevent the worst from happening... But soon, she calms down, offering her arms awkwardly as if she wants to hug the small creature that is Haru's true form. "Listen. No matter what happened or how you are now... You're still my friend. I don't know where I'd be if I didn't meet you when I did."
Dorothy, on the other hand, is completely and utterly silent, having almost dropped her plate on the floor. To her, this makes even less sense than Alice being some kind of power leech. And in a sense, it is even less natural, but it doesn't make her angry. The Mienumon tries to make words come out of her mouth, but every time, she just fails for an entire minute before deciding not to speak, an uncomfortable, nervous expression on her face.

"Have you tried looking for information in the library about it...?" If that thing really was a Digimon then information about it needed to exist. That was something Naoko knew to be true, at the very least. "...Cute egg, though."
Of course, with the revelation that Haru had died and been brought back as a Digimon through what could basically be called mad science, Naoko fell silent. There was an expression on her face that bore nothing but discomfort. Bad memories. "...I...Haru, you've heard everything I have to say here. I'm...not gonna repeat those things."
It was better she didn't. After all, Naoko didn't want to end up tearing into herself over something that was barely her fault...

Post by Haru Toriya and Tawna on Jan 26, 2019 21:47:17 GMT
At this point, Haru wouldn't have been surprised at most things in the Digital World. Digimon were inherently very alien creatures, and she found it difficult to sometimes grasp all the varying differences between potentially even two members of the same species. Any sense of real-world evolution or biology was futile in the Digital World... It ran on its own very loose sense of logic.
How else was such a reincarnation like her own possible?
It hurt seeing Alice's reaction... It really did. The Salamon could see just the emerald-haired woman's brain going into overdrive, Haru merely sighing as her ears drooped. "... I am sorry that we've hid it for this long. I just... We weren't sure what would happen, or how people will react. I didn't even know if I was really... well, me for a while." the Rookie level apologized profusely, reminded that this was weird for even Naoko. Hell, Naoko had to experience that her own sister kicked the bucket in a brutal and cruel manner... and it took one hell of an explanation to even get them to believe her on Tamernet! "I'm still a little mad that no one told you especially what was going on... I mean, we're still sisters... Right?"
Tawna was not exactly enjoying the situation either. Whether she liked it or not, she and Naoko had something very much in common... They had both lost someone very dear to them. Her own anger and irritableness was born primarily out of worry, the Meicoomon actually snarling slightly. "Hey! I was busy taking care of your egg and you as a Fresh level; and Naoko huddled herself back in the human world! If I could have said something, I would have!" she hissed, though fairly quickly quieted down. "... Sorry, I'm still a little on-the-edge. I just... never sorta thought we'd be put into this kinda situation."
Haru merely sadly nodded at her former partner, though managed a weak smile as she allowed herself to be embraced by Alice... just as if she were an actual dog actually. Well... she kinda was one now, wasn't she? And later a cat, but that was a very different deal in general... "Eat your pizza and chillax Tawna... You earned it." she quipped somewhat mellowly, trying to fight back tears at the kind words Alice offered. "I've been just... scared I suppose. I don't want to cause anymore trouble, but god... How do you tell people that you died?"
There was no time to cry. The bad times were over for now... It was time to look at the future positively. "... Well, on the bright side... think of the breakthroughs this could lead for the club! This kinda shows that there might not be as much difference between humans and Digimon! I mean, something has to enable all this weird digital contamination stuff, or things like Spirit Wielders or Biomerges can exist?" the former human spoke, seemingly cheering up slightly before blushing awkwardly. "... I dunno. Just me being stupid."

Alice finally regains her composure, and stands upright. She shouldn't be making too much of a big deal of this if it makes Naoko uncomfortable to even be reminded of it, but at the same time, Haru is right. This is important to talk about. "Okay, first off, I haven't visited the Library ever since the attack... I feel guilty about it, honestly. Bringing Calumon there put all of us at risk. I felt guilty enough to flee to Rosewood, let that sink in..." Shaking her head, the tall, older Tamer isn't exactly in a good mood upon having to confess this. "I get it, we all have moments of weakness, but... Me and Dorothy ran so we could have some time to think about things alone."
"Yeah, you were freakin' out more than me." Dorothy's comment is said with a slight glare coming from her, the blue imp Digimon still uncertain as to what to say about Haru's situation. Either way, she has to address it. "Haru...I ain't sure how to say this, but... I'm kinda glad you're not, like... Actually dead 'n, uhh... Dunno how to say this." It takes a moment for her to compose her thoughts, and when she does speak, she's quiet. "It's kinda... Amazin' somethin' like this could ever happen. A lil' scary, to be honest. I heard a lotta stories about weird stuff before I met Alice, but none of 'em were quite like this." She's at a loss for words, and it shows, mostly remaining quiet after this comment.
"It must have been painful to find this all out yourself... Either way, I understand why you say this isn't easy to accept. But I've seen and done enough to know that the Digital World or Digimon don't obey our logic. Death..." Alice decides to move on from the subject, sitting on the couch next to Dorothy. "What matters is that we're all here now, and we've learned from our experiences. Perhaps we are being stupid, but perhaps there's more to this. Once I get back to research, I'll make it my goal to figure out more of this... And I promise to keep this a secret if you don't want to reveal it. If you do.. I'll be standing with you every step of the way."

"It's amazing indeed what's possible with the right amount of knowledge. I...will admit that I wasn't expecting much information if any. I isolated myself. Shut myself in my room for a while. I think mom was actually...starting to get worried about me."
Naoko didn't have much else to say. She wasn't even sure what ELSE she could say about this. How do you tell anyone you died? She finally sighed. "It doesn't need to be stated that I'll support either of you every step of the way. Whether or not this should be revealed is...up to Haru in the end. We can all take...something from this at the very least, too."
