New School Friend (Leith)

Lucky for everyone involved, Chenjin tried to evade but not make a scene in public, which gave the Tamer less reason to just go ahead and deploy digimon in the middle of Shibuya. Then again, what's really the worst that could happen from a low-level digimon fight in Shibuya? I can run to the other side whenever I want. As Leith's digimon as well as his own occasional line of sight guided him to Chenjin, though, it turned out he could run even quicker than he figured; Chenjin was going to the trains.
Skye, who pursued him closer, was able to get there first, but she lost him in the crowds. "Chenjin!" she called over the noise, "I'm sorry! My brother's a little sick, but he's harmless!"
"False and false," Leith growled to Skye as he joined Skye's side just then. "We'll talk about that sick comment later. Guys, where is he?" Shoutmon pointed Chenjin out from within the digivice. Apparently whatever train he wanted to get on wasn't there yet. Leith wanted to keep this from breaking out into a scene, though, so he tried to approach Chenjin stealthily and speak low. "Listen. We could talk this out here, or we could go somewhere more private. Either way, the holosuit is coming off. What's it gonna be?"
Veemon started to think he was going too far once Leith grabbed at the back of the boy's shirt. "Leith, I know you're protective of your sister, but he's not hurting anybody."
"He's not the one I'm worried about," Leith retorted. "But you remember her. She knew who I was, and she must know who my family is. If you want to tell me there's something you won't do to keep them safe, now is the time to get the hell out of my digivice and walk away." Leith's words were harsh, but hopefully they were also a display of his real good intentions. Of course, he and his duo knew the real chance of walking away over this was zero, but that was the point. "Which means you and me, Chenjin - if that's really your name - need to have a talk."

Phew... I lost them... Chenjin sighed as he was lost in the sea of seemingly endless humans. It always amazed him how many humans gathered around the train station, it was super easy to just blend in and hide in plain sight in these areas. He barely heard Skye's voice amongst all the individual chatter, which made him go deeper into the human sea. Now he all had to do was wait for his train to arrive.
And just as Chenjin's luck would have it, Leith ended up catching up to him anyways. He didn't turn around at all, just staring ahead at the empty train track as Leith spoke. He heard him speak about how he wanted to keep his family safe from someone, and Chenjin was apparently getting in the way of it. Thus, Chenjin decided to appeal to him.
"Alright, I give. I can show you who I really am, Leith. I can prove to you that I'm not out to hurt anyone. But only on one condition: you cannot tell Skye any of this. She's the first human friend I've had that didn't just treat me as another Digimon, and... and it felt nice. But if you disagree, then I am going to deny all of your claims until you do."
Usually Chenjin wouldn't be this serious, but Leith... Leith scared him. A lot.

Lying to Skye? About a digimon? That just really, really rubbed Leith the wrong way. He sure knew he would have wanted to know if someone he knew as a secret digimon. Heck, how many people had he met that he didn't even know were digimon? How many were standing right there in that crowd? For the first time since ever receiving the digivice, Leith lay one hand over it, subconsciously attempting to cover it from view. "You're asking me to lie to the last family I've got left so you can impersonate a human like some kind of body-snatcher thing."
Leith glared hard at this boy, even if he wasn't turning around to face him. In fact that just fueled his fire. It wasn't often he was in charge, he was the one with the power, he was the dominant one over danger, not the other way around. Any time I want, I just have to say the word. Magnadramon and Examon will wipe you from the face of the planet! He almost wanted to, too. Finally, he could drop a threat before it tried to hurt someone he cared about. One word, one command was all it would have taken...
Skye's right. I am sick.
Leith let the boy go. Some of the edge came out of his voice right after he sniffed. "Let's go underground to the Trailmon station. People like us won't make a fuss there." Hopefully Chenjin followed Leith into that corridor just past the elevator, where he set free his two partners again. "That's Veemon and Shoutmon, my partners."
"I'm very sorry about this," Veemon apologized with the usual deep bow that came with it purely out of habit.
Shoutmon just shrugged.
Leith crossed his arms and leaned back against a wall. "And you are...?"

Please let go of me soon... Chenjin thought as Leith kept holding onto his shirt. It was making him feel more uncomfortable and scared, especially since he could feel Leith glaring right at him. Thankfully Leith did eventually let his shirt go and headed right towards the Trailmon station, with Chenjin following close behind.
Once they were all out of sight, two beams of light came out of Leith's digivice which revealed his two partners: a Veemon like the one Justice had, and a red Digimon he had never seen before in his life. Apparently it was something called a "Shoutmon." He couldn't wait to search for information on him!
Now they were expecting Chenjin to unveil his true form. Chenjin nodded towards Leith and deactivated his holosuit, revealing something... less than threatening: a white mammalian creature with a red helmet, and metallic claws, with a yellow magnifying-glass logo on his abdomen. And this is where they saw the true Chenjin...
"Hi there! My name is Sir Chenjin, and I come from Whitewater! I've been studying you humans for quite some time and it was only recently where I've been given the chance to live among you all! It truly is exciting... most of the time!"
A lot of things about this probably caught them all off guard, especially when Chenjin pulled his magnifying glass over his eye and looked right at Shoutmon. "Deep Search!" Chenjin yelled, using his power to scan Shoutmon and learning a bunch of different things about his species. "Ooh, your species resembles a dragon-musician! Very interesting! But... you're not metallic. Why is that, I wonder?"

Shoutmon shrugged a second time. "Hell if I know," was his best answer to Chenjin's question about his composition. "But believe this, kid: there's plenty of metal in me!"
"Not literally," Veemon clarified, though he couldn't help chuckling a little at the very need to do so. This was good. The tension in Leith's expression still hadn't gone away much, but Chenjin himself seemed much calmer and even happy once the disguise was drop. Confusing as that was, Veemon accepted it as good.
Meanwhile, at the same time Chenjin shared the results of his search, Leith used his D-Terminal to do some research of his own. He read out loud, "Gatchmon, rookie level. Deep Search technique lets you search the internet for information. Not sure how that's any better than Google, but I guess it must be somehow." Leith shrugged, and with one thought he made his Terminal disappear back into his digivice. "OK, so you fancy yourself an... anthrobiologist? Anthrosociologist? I don't know what the word is, but I guess it's like when sociologists pretend to be homeless to study the homeless." Leith pursed his lips. Somehow, he wasn't happy that Chenjin had such a valid reason for pretending to be human. Still, at least he knew one piece of kind-of pleasant conversation to seize on. "I've been to Whitewater a few times. Even met my boyfriend there. So you said your name really is Chenjin?"
"Actually he said it was 'Sir Chenjin,'" Shoutmon reminded him with a snicker. Leith didn't get it right away, but it when he put it together he had to cover his mouth to keep his own laugh inside.
"Is that a joke? That's your real name?"

Shoutmon's words didn't exactly have the effect on Chenjin that he wanted it to have. It anything, it just confused him. "Isn't it a bad idea to eat metal?" Chenjin asked, looking at Shoutmon's middle. "Wouldn't it give you a bellyache?" The confusion was put to rest when Veemon clarified that Shoutmon didn't mean it literally.
Leith had scanned Chenjin as the latter was doing his Deep Search ability, so he managed to get some information on the new Digimon. He then proceeded to ask Chenjin if he was... well, he was struggling with the word. "Well... in a way, yes. I live among humans to help me learn more about them and this world. Maybe someday I could do something that can benefit them!"
Chenjin tilted his head at what Leith and Shoutmon said next. First Leith claimed to have a boyfriend... which would make Leith a girl? But he was a boy... Chenjin was extremely confused by this. And second, they started making fun of his name, to the point where Leith didn't even believe that it was real. "Well, yeah it is my name. What's so funny about it? And also, did you mean to say you met your girlfriend in Whitewater? I'm confused."
After all was said and done, Chenjin put his holosuit back on, turning back into the red-headed teen. "Remember: Skye isn't going to know about any of this yet. I want to tell her... on my own terms. She's going to be safe, I promise."

Shoutmon and Leith had the same thought when Chenjin asked about metal in Shoutmon in the literal sense: Is this guy for real? But despite the fact that this Gatchmon was definitely not the sharpest bulb in the taco, he didn't seem like the malicious type either. On the contrary, he saw himself a researcher of sorts and not even just for digimons' sake. That, Leith thought, was an impressive sort of altruism. However, the young digimon was either ignorant... or homophobic.
Leith narrowed his eyes and insisted, "No girlfriend. I mean that I met my boyfriend in Whitewater."
"Leith, we gotta do somethin' about the hair thing. This is the third time someone's thought you were a girl."
"Did I ask you?" Leith crossed his arms and sighed. "Alright, listen, 'Sir Chenjin.' Let's get back out there. We need to talk to Skye."
Leith's digimon were in his V-Pet by the time he emerged from the digimon-only section of the station, hopefully with Chenjin in tow. Just as the doors slammed shut was when Skye noticed and ran toward them. "Leith, what the hell?"
"I called it wrong." Leith sighed again, but this time it was a bit more exaggerated, accentuated with one hand on his forehead. "I think I've been gone too long. I'm, uh... seeing things. Thinking things I shouldn't be." Unfortunately, that wasn't all a lie. "Look, I gotta go back. Things kinda went off the rails. But, uh... Chenjin, sorry for everything." The pat on the boy's shoulder was real as Leith turned and walked away but not too far away. His way to the digital world was still in Skye's sight, after all, plus he was curious about how this would end. He tried to be undetected, though.
"God, he's such a moron!" Skye hissed, "Those were our cousins, by the way, in the dragon costumes. Did he do something stupid?"
