That statement just remained there, Amy's smile not wavering at the face of Iko's joke, unless it was at Luke's following statement. "I mean, they were blatantly hostile to us even before we decided this was a good place to set up, so I guess that the whole deal was just highly convenient. But yeah, I can say it's been working pretty well thus far! I like to think that I couldn't have gotten a better place."
The truthfulness of that was dubious, but there wasn't much that could be done if that were the case! Knights seemed like a far more interesting topic, anyway. "At least I can say that it's a nice initiative; taking the defense of the Digital World seriously and making an organized attempt at it rather than just leaving all the work to the ragtag group that's usually there when the disaster strikes. Sure; the latter works sometimes, but it seems a bit crude for the first line of defense, in my opinion."
A more organized stand against those perils would be a big boon, both at preventing the potential loss of lives and the destruction of assets. There wasn't anything not positive about the organization, as far as she could see.
Wonky gravity, on the other hand? It could be both beneficial and harmful. Knowledge of how to harness those strange properties would determine that outcome. Speaking of which! At the moment, the brunette was trying to wrap her mind around the concept Luke was trying to introduce. In all honesty, it sounded neat!
"Basically, what you want to do is to set an... 'anchor', or maybe a 'pincushion' of sorts? From what I've seen, if it's the biggest object in the room, pretty much anything would naturally be attracted to that. And if we could move the anchor around, that'd be an easy way to transport anything attracted to it elsewhere, right?"
Logically, she wasn't very sure of her words, but it seemed like a nice idea, theoretically. With any luck, that'd work.

"In my experience, 'blatantly hostile' is more than sufficient enough to describe them." But sheesh, the fact that they were able to clear out one of those nests was impressive enough. And heck, if it worked it worked! Luke shared a nod with Amelie's comment in regards to the Knights, but it did beg to wonder - why was there so often a rag-tag group in the vicinity to deal with these problems?
Blah, that hurt too much to think about. Clearly abnormal gravity and theoretical math was a better use of brainpower!
"Yeah, some sort of central 'pivot' in the middle of the room. I don't think anything we build will have significantly more pull than the walls here, so if the platforms are low enough, you can just think of 'down' as 'pointed outwards' and 'up' as 'towards the anchor'. Though it if applies to everything in here then maybe a building or two would skew the path?"
Interesting to think about. "Definitely worth experimenting, anyway. Better now while there's nothing in the way!"
"Either way, flying should be a nightmare in here, right? Then why were the DexDorumon here at all?"
"Hm... maybe they were used to it - or maybe this is just what a DexDorumon nest does, or something?"

The conversation had surely taken an interesting turn. An alien environment required creative minds, and Luke was definitely rising up to the task. To say that his idea had a fair degree of ingenuity was an understatement. "Y'know, if you weren't in the knights already, I'd probably get you in this place on the spot. Won't compete with K, but if you ever get bored of the chivalrous stuff, just give me a call, kay? I wouldn't mind getting a chief engineer; who knows how weird this place is gotta get."
A half-smirk was the obvious continuation of that half joke. Most importantly, the boy's words made the gears in the brunette's head turn. "Buildings may become an issue if you're right, but if that's the case, we can just build them gradually, or leave the biggest for the last; that way, any materials would naturally drift where we need them to be, anyway. I think I'll see to implement that system as soon as possible; in fact..."
Making sure to not accidentally 'fall', Amy sat on the floor before bringing out her Infini-Store; resolving the puzzle with practiced swiftness, she was quick to bring out a sketchbook, a mechanical pencil, and an eraser. A bit crudely, she began to draw the city's outline, respecting the relative scale of the landscape. Below that, she began to trace varying ovoid shapes of different sizes. Then, she gestured at Luke to come closer. "What do you think would be the best shape and size for an anchor? I feel like a sphere would have the highest pull, but it'd be a bit more unwieldy compared to an oval. Fastening either to this place is going to be a challenge as well..."
If that had been Luke's initial goal, he had accomplished it! By now, Amelie was pretty much in thinking mode regarding what was the best way to apply this idea.
Nevermind the fact that she didn't know why the DexDorugamons were here in the first place. Now that she thought about it... "I honestly have no idea why they were here, but at least I can tell you that this place began to display these properties after we began constructing. I think that maybe we triggered something... but I can't be sure of that."

"Heh, I'll keep that in mind - but keep in touch anyway, if you need a hand!" When it all came down to it, Luke figured, it was easy to tell that both teams were on the up-and-up, and there wasn't a reason they couldn't work together. Well, other than his obligations to the guild on the flying island, of course.
And even if he wouldn't be the engineer building it, he could definitely help design it. After almost stumbling, he sat next to Amelie, mulling over the design. "Hm... a sphere wouldn't work. What you'd want to do is take the rough shape of the room - or, at least the building-habitable area - and create something of an ellipsoid shape in that exact same shape. But as far as I'm thinking, you don't need to put too much material in the center..."
If Amelie would allow Luke to borrow a pen, he'd sketch his idea out: metal joists, affixed to the edges of the room, were drawn up towards the center - where he'd sketch a rough, jagged 'football' shape of metal, the cross-bars holding spools of cable or rope to be brought back down towards the surface. The infrastructure itself looked a bit like a convoluted jungle gym...
"... And you might be thinking that this would cramp down on the space, but you could double-up on the vertical girders by establishing your building structure around them. For taller buildings, and especially with this room's physics, you'll have to support them around their central point anyway..."
As Luke and Amelie theorized away, Amelie brought up a new point. Wait, these properties were... new?
"Then aren't you two jumping the gun a bit?" Iko sighed, as Luke looked over his shoulder. "What if this place's physics change back like next week or something?"
"Um..." Huh. Interesting point. "... I wonder if spellcasters or something can do appraisals on that..."

It wasn't like that wouldn't happen, anyway. Amelie's obvious response was to nod at Luke. "Don't worry about that. Considering that this place may prove to be a major headache, I might as well use all the help I can get."
Not doing so would be kinda foolish, after all; right now, the city was in the stage where work was the most intense. Who would have thought that Amy would spend her afternoon sitting upside-down, sharing ideas with somebody over something that while not an urgent matter, could very well improve the construction speed by a fair bit.
"An ellipsoid, huh? That would work." The pencil promptly handed, as the brunette looked at her friend's drawings, nodding slightly at the final design. "I see. Might try to do something like that soon before the work picks up in this area. And even if it sounds like a nice theory, I wonder how that will work on practice."
A pensive expression was a natural follow-up. What was the best way to go on around this? Probably not something that mattered at the moment, since she was confident about finding the best way to implement the system if given enough time to think about it.
There was no denying of how promising this sounded, even if... Iko's words made a very good job at bringing her back to Earth. Well, kinda. "They may, that's true. Now that you mention it... do you know anybody who deals with this kind of stuff? I haven't thought about it, but considering that this kind of phenomena is so strange, I doubted there would be anybody capable of giving me precise answers."
Nothing lost by asking, right?

So much theory, but such a rocky foundation! Only now did either Amelie or Luke think of the longevity of the field. At least in this case, Iko was a touch more helpful. "Hm... there might be a 'mon or two who could take a look at it. If its magic its just a means of supplying the source, and if its actually a new distortion, it... probably won't revert."
"Either way, I don't think either of us have anyone specific in mind. Hm..." Well, maybe this makeshift blueprint would have to be put on hold a bit, but at least they had a baseline! "Considering the progress of the construction here already, it might be better to ask one of them. I mean, with all the 'floating islands' and underwater cities, it might not even be the strangest thing they've ever been asked about."
"Maybe. I mean, I'm not a construction nut myself. Maybe one could be found in Terminus or Luminas? I mean, floating islands and all..."
Sheesh. Luke shook his head, looking to the place as a whole. "Anyway - underground is great and all, but it might be kind of limiting if this idea takes off. What do you have planned when the word of this place starts to spread?"

Funny how Iko, of all the beings currently present, was the one who about the possibility of somebody helping them with this problem. What would those even be called? 'Weirdologists' didn't sound all that respectful to anybody willing to engage in this, in all honesty!
"I guess I'll begin looking for somebody, then. They don't seem like the type that would randomly hang out at a bar in Terminus or something, but I guess I eventually will be able to get in touch with somebody that's not just trying to get some easy bits. It'd be interesting to find out."
A nod was given right away. Despite the ingenuity of their idea, the fact that it would be completely useless if this was just a temporary phenomenon was a very valid reason to postpone it until the truth was found out. However...
"I'd rather not deal with folks from Luminas, if able." Amelie's usually calm expression showed the signs of a slight frown at the remark. "You know how's the deal over here. I doubt anything good would come out of it this early."
Terminus was a good choice, though! Not to say that it probably was a better place to gather information regarding strange phenomena around the Digital World. In any case... "Not even finished with the construction, and you're already thinking about expanding? That's quite ambitious, I gotta say." A small giggle couldn't be avoided. "We'll eventually take this place to the surface, but the when and how aren't on the table just yet. Why are you asking? Do you think we'll get overwhelmed as soon as this place opens its doors? I think that may not be... very likely, to be honest."
The nature of the Dark Area made everyone approach anything new with a lot of doubts. It'd take a good while for anyone to warm up to Deeplane.

"If only it were so easily to walk into laboratories and find a scientist that randomly knows what you're talking about." Iko jested, of course - the security of those places existed for a reason. But it did spur an idea out of Luke's head, at least:
"Well, obviously not a lab, but maybe a... school or university? I don't know how any of that's structured in the Digital World, but certainly they have to learn from someone else." Maybe Mikemon would have a better lead on something like that. As an Aato, Iko was unfortunately no help on that front, simply giving an unassuming shrug.
"Hm, fair enough. Especially with all this 'Spire and D-Reaper' stuff going on, I wouldn't want to stir up the tense nest Luminas is very much right now."
But yes, Luke was already talking about expanding, and for good reason! "It might not even that you get overpopulated, but its certainly possible that some might not want this place to succeed. Some thrive in the chaos, and I'm sure there's a few milking Fragment Village that would just love to try and get their hands in using a place like this."
"Just something to keep your eyes open for, of course," Iko gave a nod. "There will come a time when this place is a bit too much for just one person to handle. Eventually, you'll reach a point where you're governing it instead of overseeing every little thing!"

Iko was right; that much was out of the discussion. Finding somebody both capable and willing would prove to be quite challenging. Overall, it wasn't something that the brunette would devote that much time to, considering there were way more urgent matters at hand regarding this small project.
But if happened, it was something she would definitely be grateful about. "A scholar, huh? Well, depending on how the situation is approached, I guess that could work. It also narrows down the places where we have to search to just Terminus, so we either are lucky, or we aren't."
At least she was glad that her position regarding Luminas was something understandable. While Amelie was sure that there were good digimons living in that city, she was also aware that just as Luminas had a negative outlook on the Dark Area, the opposite was true as well. Contempt could only breed more contempt.
Their concerns? Those were fair as well. And had their measure of truth. "I'll do this the right way. I won't allow any kind of shady business over here; if anyone wants to work honestly and contribute to the city's growth, they will be more than welcome, but if they want to use it for personal gain, the most likely outcome is that they will be kicked out on the spot." Her posture regarding that was clear. "And I'm aware of that; I won't be the only person running the city once it's finished. I'm pretty good at delegating responsibility, believe it or not! Slowly, I've been picking people who have my full trust as aides. I have no doubts about their ability, or in this place running smoothly once finished. Maybe you even met some of them already!"
Most of them were young promises, even if some not so many. Still, it was a group the brunette was proud of. They were all amazing people on their way. "The project's still in its infancy, though. I have more than enough time to fix any issues that may arise. As long as I can see it coming, I think the city will be fine."

"Terminus... and maybe Whitewater, but that's more a market town."
That aside, Iko was glad to hear Amelie's conviction on this. No shady business, weed out the bad eggs, and run a nice, tight ship - they could get on board with all of that. And heck, she was already thinking to make a group out of it! "Ah, nice!" He gave a nod, appreciating that Amelie was going in the right direction on this.
Whether she stuck it through to the end or not, well, Iko had faith in her. But, indeed, this was still a young project, already built on a potentially unstable cavern. "Mhm. I'm in with the Knights, of course, but if you need help with any of this, you can shoot me a call. Between the 'Rose' and this place, I don't think we're going to be doing too much that conflicts."
"Trying to get our foot in the Dark Area nice and early there, Luke?" The Ankomon openly jested, butting his elbow against the tamer's ribs, as Luke pushed right back. "Well, that can't hurt, but its hardly why."
"Oh, I get it." Iko grinned: "Third time you're sticking your neck out for her in two months, right?"
... Oof.

A nod was swiftly given. While it was true that Whitewater was a legitimate city, most of the civilized world saw it as a place to unwind and arrange trade deals, not to pursue academic researching. In any case, the course of action was set; whether productive or not, that remained to be seen.
Similarly, it provided her with a measure of relief to know that the duo approved of their plans. Amelie herself didn't need anyone's validation for this project, but that didn't mean she didn't appreciate more voices supporting it! Deep down, it was somewhat reassuring! “It's not like I'm in the position of refusing good-intentioned help, anyway! Feel free to come whenever you want; the doors are open for you and Iko.”
Trustworthy friends are rare to come by, and more precious than water, at least in the brunette's mind; both Luke and Iko were good people, and their help always proved to be… well, helpful! And that wasn't to say that their antics were quite fun. Their exchange managed to make her snicker a bit; guess that Iko was too good at pushing his buttons?
Probably harmless, anyway.
“As far as I'm concerned, Luke's a great friend! And… I guess you're right. If I can pay you back in some way for those timely saves, just let me know! I'm more than happy to help in any knightly business if needed.”

The Knights were open to the council, and in turn it seemed like the Council was nice and open to the Knights as well! Luke returned a nod, before giving a small chuckle at Iko's teasing. Yes, the teasing was rather harmless...
... But it might have hit close to home? Letting a brief spot of red pass his cheek, he gave a smile to Amelie. "I'll keep that in mind." Though they hadn't seen the spirit user fight, she did have her hands much deeper into that mess than Luke or Iko did - so she had to be a capable fighter, at least in some respect! "Ah, but don't think you have to repay me for anything like that, of course!"
"Don't think she said that at all." Iko gave a whistle, as Luke rolled his eyes. "If you got any more projects you want me to look at, just let me know."

If anything, this seemed like the beginning of some kind of partnership between the Council and the Knights. Their goals didn't necessarily align, but that wasn't a problem, all things considered. Not getting on the other's way, and being able to help each other to thrive in the hostile environment that the Digital World could be for young enterprises seemed like more than good enough.
Amelie was definitely digressing at the moment, however. And quite honestly? She was a bit tired of the main chamber's weird phenomena, even though that didn't mean she wasn't thankful with both Luke and Iko. Slowly, she began to stand up, almost as if unsure on whether her footing would return to normal or not at that gesture.
Moments later, the brunette was smiling at the group. "Y'all know you can count in me. It's the least I can do for a friend." For some reason, however, she had her doubts about that offer being taken seriously. "I don't have to, but I want to. Reciprocity is the foundation of any healthy relationship, as far as I'm aware!"
And, quite honestly, she wasn't a fan of owing favors, or perceiving she did, for that matter! For now, Amy thought they were done, however. "Sides that, there's not a lot going on my side. The others might be engaging in their projects, but I'd rather not interfere unless asked. Everyone enjoys a measure of privacy, I feel."
The teenager took a moment to gaze at her project, before letting out a small sigh. "So, at least on that side, I think your shift is over." Of course she was smirking at that statement. It was impossible not to. "Unless you want to visit somewhere in particular, I think this small trip is over. Hope you enjoyed yourselves!"

"Heh. I'll keep that in mind if I need an extra hand with something." Trading favors back and forth seemed like a pretty good deal as it was, and as Amelie joked about the shift being over, Luke took one more look into the cavern.
"Hm, I guess-" Whatever Luke was about to say was interrupted by a small vibration in his pocket. Checking the D-Terminal at a glance, Luke gave a sigh. "And that's the Knights. Alright, I guess I will be off. Catch you later!"
Luke had to hurry that up just a bit, unfortunately, as he soon picked up to take that call, Iko following a short distance behind. Over the last few minutes, Iko had that same grin on his face, just entertained about the silent pins and needles that his tamer seemed to tread on. "Well, good luck in Terminus. It'd help if you already had some kinda 'sciency' person to help you from scratch?"
Just a thought. He would follow Luke on out, and the two would be on their way to handle their own business.
Late next morning, though, Amelie would see a text, just two words:
Coffee, Thursday?

Amelie quickly nodded to Luke. Despite how helpful the guy could be, sometimes he took his job way too seriously. He really didn't know when to stop! Or maybe it was because he was having fun? In any case, and even if he didn't mean to, the boy would be relieved from his duties.
Just to partake into the knightly variant of them. Sometimes, one's job never ended! "Have fun! And say hi to K on my stead!"
Must've been important business, or maybe it wasn't. In any case, Amy would bid goodbye to the duo. "I mean, I could ask Mikemon, see what's his opinion on the matter? He probably knows other intellectuals and that stuff. Who knows, it might work!"
Like that, the duo was off to their duties. For some reason, the brunette had the impression she would see them again pretty soon. Sure thing. You pick the place.
