"I'm glad that you decided to come!" Who was Amelie talking to? Of course, it was none other than Syre. Her little niece had grown up so much in the relatively small period of time they've been apart. It was almost surprising, but the otherwise young and innocent BlackTailmon had bloomed into a full-fledged lady. And that was something that moved the brunette to the point of almost-tears.
"I swear, they group so fast..." Luckily, almost-tears were almost-tears! The pair was currently strolling calmly through Whitewater; the sun was making way to the night, and most of the fancy lighting the city had was beginning to show. "So, how have you been? I know I ask these questions every time we get to meet, but... is everything in the Library going alright? How are your parents doing? Have you been maintaining a healthy diet and been exercising frequently? Hope that getting grounded for that last escapade wasn't too bad."
Even if they didn't get to be together all that often, Amelie's affection for her niece was very genuine. Whether she had any claim to it or not was dubious, but she wasn't going to accept that as a valid reason, and that was to say the least.

"Well of course! I'm always glad to see you!" Syre beamed, a wide grin on her face as the two made their way down Whitewater. And indeed, Syre's early youth was something of a 'blink and you'll miss it' story, but that's just how it went with Digimon. Heck, Syre had to see the same when Holly sprung up right before her eyes.
"Oh, its not all bad..." the BlackGatomon gave a small chuckle back. The barrage of questions made her ears flicker, the cat trying to just keep up with all of it. How was she doing, how were her parents, was she exercising, and she wanted to know about the grounding? "Hey, give me a sec here!" She said that with a smile, racking through the questions back in her head: "Things are going fine in the Library, though its really only 'dad' doing the research stuff with the rest of 'em. Mom's got her own deal with the Knights, my sister's doing her own thing, and I'm still figurin' out what I want to do. Um... oh, mom and dad are fine!" She gave a nod, trying to think of something to add:
"Actually, this came at a good time. My parents are out in Snowpoint for a bit of a small vacation, and Holly's doing a project in Terminus." As for her exercise: "Mm! Mom does some pretty good cooking, and I keep up on my runs so I don't slow down for those missions, and... yeah, I've got a bit more 'freedom' to do what I want now that I'm able to do 'harder' missions." She had a good long talk about that with Mikemon, and really, that was what bothered her most about the Dark Area 'error': being punished for doing the right thing, albeit unsafely.
But one good question - or several - deserved one in return! "How about you? You gave us all a scare when we heard that you were in that desert mess... oh, and dad mentioned that you're trying to build a settlement in the Dark Area? Because he said that he'd message you tomorrow if he can find that 'researcher' you're looking for..."
Other questions aside, her attention was soon drawn to the city itself. "So what's the plan for today?" Amy might have mentioned that it was to be a 'fun night out', but Syre didn't really know what that meant!

Of course, Amelie was positive on the fact that she had drowned her niece in potential questions, but that was only because she cared, right? Yeah, that was the obvious reason! All things considered, it made her happy to know that Syre was doing very well. The BlackTailmon seemed to be very healthy, and, at least on the surface-level, happy. Those were all good things.
"I'm glad that everything ended more or less well, honestly! It makes me happy to know that you've won your independence, and that Mikemon is mellowing out a bit. I know he really tries his best but... I guess parents do make mistakes sometimes. At least from my perspective!"
In any case, it wasn't like Syre would just let herself be the victim of so many questions without no input of her own in return! Her questions showed a fair bit of care as well, something that warmed the brunette's heart. "I've been doing fairly well, myself! What happened back in the desert wasn't that bad, if you ask me; others had a way rougher time than me, but that's mostly a non-issue! What matters is that I made it back safe and sound, right?" After a small pause, she nodded. "Yeah, it's been pretty smooth thus far, thankfully! I'm still missing one detail or two, but thus far things are working as intended."
The fact that she referred to 'details' was a pretty big understatement, but that wasn't here nor there. Talking about work was on a free day was boring, anyway! On the other way... regarding what they would do? That was way more interesting! The teenager knew that answering a question with another was unbecoming, but... "As much as it pains me to say it, Syre, the days where I could just cup my hands and scoop you up are long gone. Even if that doesn't necessarily mean that things have changed between us, it means that you're now a lady, through and through. Do you know what does that mean? Have your parents talked to you about it?"
Yup, the famous 'talk'. No offense meant to either K nor Mikemon; they could be very good people, but also pretty dense of times. Had they not explained the nuances of growing up to Syre, Amelie would take it as her duty.

"Heh... well, dad was worried, and maybe trying to do what I did as a rookie wasn't the best idea, but I don't think he'd get on my case if I tried to do something like that again." She already had the head for it - it just took a while for her data to catch up.
And, of course, Amelie and Mikemon didn't need to agree on everything! Syre listened as Amelie responded to her own questions. The desert, apparently, wasn't that bad (for her, at least), and the base was going well! "Mm, that's good to hear! I might have to visit soon..." As soon as things were ready, anyway.
Pleasantries aside, Syre definitely wondered what a 'fun day' meant from Amelie, and the first thing she said made Syre tilt her head. True, the BlackGatomon had outgrown such things (mostly, though K begged to disagree at times), but that second part confused her. What did it mean to be a 'lady'? The blank expression that was on Syre's face for several seconds was probably exactly what Amelie expected.
"Um... well, I mean... I've been doing more studying and training, been more active with the mission's guild..."
Yeah, even Syre knew that wasn't was Amelie was looking for. Eventually, the cat shook her head. "Auntie, my mom's spent most of her life as a single innkeeper and my dad's a science-nut." Plus, Syre was pretty much their first kid! "And... I don't think either of them really had parents of their own?"

There was a point there. Syre's intentions were all good, even if she still wasn't experienced enough to tackle the last issue the duo had. An overall risky endeavor, but that had ultimately paid off, as far as the brunette was concerned. Yet, that seemed so far in that past, that the brunette would deem it as unimportant, at least in the face of their current predicament!
Before they could tackle it, though, Amy's expression shifted from a bit nonchalant to a calm smile. Had she been unwittingly secretive? Maybe she could elaborate on her replies. "I mean~! I'd love for you to pay a visit! You know, my home's your home. Sides, your input would be greatly appreciated! It's been an extenuating process thus far, but I think we're getting there. By the end of the year, the place should be habitable. At least, that's the goal!"
Mikemon's and K's parenting skills, though? Those needed some real work. Hadn't she been busy with building a city from the group up, Amy could very well write a guide for aspiring parents! Something like leaving their daughter to their own when they were supposed to provide for guidance wasn't she was a fan of, all things considered. Despite Syre's reason, neglecting a kid on such vital matters was inexcusable.
By now, the duo had reached the beachside. Lest to say, the gentle caress of waves on the moonlit shore was a very pretty image. Taking the lead, the girl sat in the soft sand, taking a moment to gaze at the stars that shone skyward before her aptly lowered in Syre's direction.
"As a preamble, you might feel awkward during this conversation. I might feel awkward as well; I thought that my first time doing this would be at least eight or so years in the future. Anyhow." After a small pause to concentrate, she resumed. "How do you feel about your growth? I know it's kinda weird with digimons, but I've always thought that their bodies were always three-or-so steps ahead of their minds, no offense intended. It usually gets time to get used to the increased perception, and maturity. How do you feel about it?"
Change could be scary, and digimons weren't an exception to that rule. "Valentine's wasn't long ago. I guess I don't have to say it, but there's not that much of a gap between that day and your birthday. How do you feel about the holiday? Have you given it any thought?"
After all, growing up could mean something like that as well, couldn't it? It would be good to know if the Gatomon could bring herself to care about it just yet or if she was oblivious to the whole deal.

"Heh, it sounds like you have your work cut out for you, auntie!" 'Habitable' by the end of the year? Granted, Syre knew little about how building in the Dark Area would work, but it definitely sounded like a lofty goal. Though, if anyone could handle it, it was Amy!
As the two would make their way to the beach, and as Amelie sat, Syre found herself blinking up at that starry sky, sitting just a couple of feet away from Amelie. Her attention was only drawn as Amy spoke, her ear flicking in recognition of what she was saying. 'Awkward'? 'Something she wasn't planning to do for eight or so years'? The cat's expression looked confused, tilting her head as she asked about her growth. "Um... I don't know, actually. For a long while I thought I'd just be a 'cat with a ring', but now I've been ultimate a couple of times and that form's just... 'weird unless I'm in it', if that makes sense?"
It probably wasn't what Amelie was talking about - the second question would land closer to home. Valentines? "Mm... its definitely a day that make mom and dad happy. Its one of the few times I've seen mom bake a cake, and dad mentioned it was during a Valentines day that he really got to know mom for the first time. But, I can't say I've given it much thought myself?" She curled her legs closer, wrapping her hands around her legs. "Honestly, I was just surprised that Terminus could produce that much pink!"

Indeed. But all means and purposes, Amelie had her work cut out for her. From the beginning, she had very present that the endeavor she had undertaken was nothing short of massive, but that was fine. After all, what worthwhile change didn't take a fair share of sweat?
Not like that was important at the moment, the conversation had begun, and while Amelie didn't see herself as somebody fitting to impart that kind of speech, the alternatives weren't very... qualified, to say the least. Being a parent while not actually being one was hard.
But it was something she would bear for Syre's sake, at least. "Yeah, it does make sense. As somebody who can evolve, I can relate to that feeling. Sometimes, each form can feel so different from each other it's unreal, yet kinda natural at the same time. Can't say I've wrapped my mind around the whole deal."
It was surely quite the experience, even though in Syre's case, the brunette thought the reasons were different. "Not that much thought, huh? Well, I guess that makes sense. Personally, I think having this much pink around is a good thing. It's a cute color." A surface-level response, while probably honest on its own, probably wasn't the whole deal. Not by a stretch. "Ever thought about celebrating it, on your own?"
Bomb dropped. The answer would determine the way this conversation would go. Was that something good, or something bad?

Ah, yes, the 'conversation'. Syre didn't know exactly what Amelie was getting at in the start, at least, though the question about Valentines Day was somewhat telling. Though Mikemon and K hadn't talked about it before, Syre wasn't blind: mom and dad prettied themselves up for some kind of date, while Dio fussed over about the appearance of his scarf before heading out on his own. It was definitely a big event in the Library, and yet Syre and Holly largely just stood on the sidelines.
When Amelie dropped the question directly, though, Syre felt her face briefly flash that aforementioned pink. That was definitely a forward thing to ask, but the cat still took a moment to consider her answer. "Honestly, I was too caught up in everything else to even give it much of a thought this year. Um... I don't know..." she rambled. "The whole 'blind date' thing the Library was on about sorta sounded interesting, but the whole day just kinda snuck up on me and slipped by! Besides that, I've not really had a chance to meet anyone 'like that'?" Syre was definitely a social cat - sort of a necessity growing up in the Library as she did - but she never really thought of anything in that sense.
"But, I mean, I guess? Maybe?" Sheesh, she felt like she was floundering, here!

Maybe that had been too direct of a question? Syre seemed a bit embarrassed at it, but it was too late to lament something like that right now.
"That's the beautiful thing about growing, isn't it?" She commented, a bit of nostalgia in her tone. "It happens so quickly that you find yourself on the other side and then ponder how so many things happened in such a short span of time. Or not; sometimes, things seem to be moving so fast that there's not even an idle second to reflect on everything that's happening. That's kinda why I'm talking to you at the moment. Somebody has to make sure you're growing up properly and in every sense of the word, you know?"
The meaning of those words was nebulous at best, even though the intent was as pure as it could be. "That's okay. I'm glad you've thought about it. I'm not rushing you or anything of the sort; don't get me wrong. I just want for you to... be aware of the chances that naturally come alongside growing. It's okay to feel what you feel, such as it's okay to decide not doing anything if that strikes your fancy. For one, I'm sure that Mikemon doesn't want to be a grandparent just yet."
An innocent giggle ensued after that comment. Of course, that was a joke. "Just have it in mind for the future, and you know you can talk to me if anything arises. That's the reason why I'm here, after all!"
Easier than what she had thought, at least. From one moment to the next, the brunette stood up and made sure to wipe all the sand from her skirt. "With that said, and since you evolved to your next level, we should celebrate! At the rhythm you're going, it wouldn't surprise me if you ended up surpassing me or something!"
Time to make it back to the city proper. Amy's steps were calm and remained even. She made sure to adapt to her niece's pace. "I don't know if I have said it before, but. I'm proud of you, you know? You're a really mature digimon; it makes me think that you're not your parents' daughter."
Another bout of laughter from the teenager confirmed that a mere joke. There was at least one more place she wanted to show Syre before engaging in more relaxing activities. Was it too soon? Probably, but better now than never.

"I don't know about fast, but things have definitely been busy lately." Holly with her job? K with the Knights? Mikemon with his upteenth medical appointment for the desert and forest incidents? So much was going on that there was barely any time to think about stuff like Valentines - and yet mom and dad still managed to slip some time in for it!
She was glad to have this time to relax with auntie, of course. The cat gave an idle nod to Amelie's comment about being 'aware' - though what really drove the point home was that comment about Mikemon being a grandparent. Syre blinked, and stammered at Amelie's chuckle, a completely embarrassed and flushed expression crossing her face! "A-auntie!" It took her a moment to get back to it, nervously joining Amelie's chuckle a moment later.
Sheesh - Syre was definitely still awkward about this sort of thing. Once she leveled back out, she gave a nod as Amelie seemingly changed topic - a celebration, to her Ultimate form! Syre gave a nod and a smile, stretching onto all fours, allowing herself to easily follow alongside Amy. And as they would make their way to the city, Amelie and Syre would look much like any other Tamer-and-Digimon pair. Definitely handy, that!
Amelie's last comment made her ear twitch, Syre giving a sigh. "Trust me, I know. I mean, they mean well, but mom's so out of it in cities and dad's... winging it, I guess?" That was a good word for it. "So where are we going?"

Fast, busy. For Amelie, those two words might've been synonyms. Time just had the ability to fly when you were having fun, after all. And for a relatively young digimon like Syre, that was double the case. Her growth had been so fast that the brunette thought it was just a matter of time before the Tailmon surpassed her. It seemed like the natural course of things, and that was honestly fine!
No matter the form, the teenager would just help her niece in any way she could. That was the job of not-quite-parental figures, right?
She couldn't avoid smiling at the cat's embarrassment. That was a cute reaction in its own way, and a good method to ensure she had gotten her point across. As awkward as that was, she was sure both Syre and Mikemon would thank her in the future.
"I kid, I kid. I trust on you being the responsible one; I'd like to think that's something you took out of me, rather than out of your parents!" Of course, she was joking again. Time to engage in a small walk.
Which, all things considered, was a relaxing experience. Amy couldn't quite place why, but walking alongside a digimon was a pleasant experience. Almost both species were meant to walk together, or something like that.
Why did she feel philosophical today? No idea. Anyway; eventually, the duo stumbled at the entrance of a moderately fancy place. "Well, we're having dinner to celebrate, of course! Back when I lived with my family, we went to a fancy place for dinner every time I aced an exam or did something that made them proud. So! Here we are."
The process of getting seated was fairly straightforward, and eventually, the two found themselves staring at the menús. "So! Do you have any favorite food?"

"Hey, they're trying, at least..." Syre didn't exactly think of Mikemon or K as irresponsible in the slightest, but she could tell at least a bit of what Amelie was talking about. But, heck, they were learning very fast what it meant to be parents, and what it meant to see their kids grow up!
Admittedly, Amelie was handling that latter bit much better than K, but that was neither here nor there. Syre's ear flicked as they walked along, perking up at the mention of a celebration. "Heh, really? That sounds like fun!" Perhaps a bit energetic, but Syre got to go out and eat at a place with auntie - though she was a bit surprised to see that it was a sit-down place.
Only a bit, of course. Following along, sitting across from Amelie (on a higher stool), Syre considered the question. "Mm... 'turkey', I guess?" Syre didn't sound certain, herself! "Mom knows how to cook a lot of things and I don't even think she's hit the bottom of it yet. So many years in that inn, I wonder how she keeps it all in there..."
Syre perused the menu. Just what kind of place was this, anyway? "How about you, Amy?" Might as well shoot the breeze as they settled in!

"I know, I know. I was just joking, you know? I shouldn't even say this, but both K and Mike are highly capable individuals, and among the most trustworthy digimon I've ever known. I'm sure that there's not much of a stretch from that to become fine parents as well. Anyway! That outing's not about them, is it? We should get going."
Despite the apparent seriousness of those words, their tone was as lighthearted as mostly everything Amy had said that night. Well, mostly! For now, the brunette thought she had filled her quota of seriousness for a while. The need to have another talk, for now, seemed like something unneeded.
Right now, the duo was sitting, discussing the potential dishes their dinner would have. "Turkey, huh? That's a good option! K's life and as innkeeper sure must mean that dinnertime is great when she's around. That's good to hear." After a quick pause, and contemplating about her own food, the teenager gestured at a waiter and ordered.
Once that was done, Amelie gazed back at her niece. "Heard that the spaghetti from this place is pretty good. And noodles in Japan are just... different from the kind I'm used to. So it'd be a nice break from those, I think! Also, I've prepared a small surprise, since we're celebrating! Until it arrives; mind telling me about your current plans for the future? You're an adult now, and that means that you eventually... have to trace a path on your own! Have you traced any goals thus far?"
Eventually, an uncorked dark bottle arrived at the table. Amy began to pour its reddish contents into their glasses, measuring if Syre would react in any way to them. "So! Let's have a toast!" Once she was done, the glass was raised. "For us, right? At least from my side, it seems like the future is bright and promising."

True, the outing wasn't about the parents, it was about the here and now! Syre beamed a smile and nodded in reply, any awkward tone quickly swept under the bridge. Seriousness aside, it was time for the two to eat...
... Though with how little Syre had been in proper restaurants, she found herself a bit overwhelmed by the options! Thankfully, this place wasn't too fancy, having decent-looking 'normal' options and pictures with generous portion sizes (well, this place had to serve all sizes of monsters, after all!). She managed to narrow down to a few options, settling on a nice-looking chicken dish, giving her order as well.
With their orders made, Syre folded the menu, ears flicking as Amelie spoke. "Oh, right, 'Japan'! I haven't had the chance to see it at all, though apparently dad's made the trip a coupla times?" Amelie would know that Mikemon was Haru's roommate for a while, at least. The conversation soon spun back around to her - what were her goals, what did she want to be? "I'm, um, still trying to figure that out. I still think I want to be a 'Field Ranger' - you know, someone who goes and responds to things that 'happen' out there, sort of like when we helped that spirit? I'm trying to take a few missions to get a good resume for that."
So, she had a bit of an idea! Syre gave a blink as a bottle was left at the table - wine? The cat tilted her head and gave a nod, raising her own glass. "For us, sure! And, I hope it is - things have been looking much brighter recently, at least!" She gave a grin, and a small sip, just to get a taste of what was in the bottle.

Japan was an interesting topic, wasn't it? Just now, Amelie had discovered that Syre had never gone there. "Well, if you ever wanna pay me a visit, you're more than welcome; you can stay a couple of days at my house if you want, as well. Did you know that K was there for a day or so? I think that we had fun together, even though she was forced to remain in her In-Training form because she didn't have a holosuit. Probably something you should buy if you're planning on visiting!"
Spending a day in the Human World with Syre sounded like a good plan. It'd be a learning experience for her, and the two would have a lot of fun! The brunette made sure to not get too distracted with that, however. Syre's plans for the future? They seemed to be quite solid! In fact, Amy was a bit surprised at the conviction that she used to speak. Definitely a good thing!
"A first responder kinda thing, huh? That is a very noble thing to aim for." Considering that information, the implications were fairly obvious. "Take you're planning to join K on the knights, then? It seems like their goals and yours align almost perfectly. I would be surprised if you haven't considered that as an option."
Would that prove to be a good idea? Or maybe the Tailmon was the type that 'didn't want to live under her mother's shadow'? Amelie couldn't quite tell, even though she would get a response soon, anyway.
She was right on one thing, though! The bottle's contents were, effectively, wine. A rather velvety variety with a fruity flavor and an overall soft taste to it. It was obvious that the brunette just meant it as a way to accentuate the celebration, rather than a method to get the two drunk.
"Hope you don't mind that I've taken some freedoms with the drink of choice. Since you're now an adult, this should be fine, right?"
