Valuable Lessons [Alice and Dorothy]

"...Ugh, so I guess I hafta explain 'cause she's busy in there..." Dorothy rolls her eyes as she explains the situation to Toki, not exactly being able to find the proper words for it. "When I'm Wisemon, that notebook of hers turns into that book they always have 'round them... And she gets to run 'round using the powers I got now while I have the abilities of a Wisemon... I, uhh... D-Don't think that's normal." Hopping off her broom and letting out a long, drawn out grumble, her expression seems both angry, and yet full of worry, a tense downward curl to her lips both anxious and enraged.
"It started when she, uhh, wanted to protect me. The Library, the Field club's base was under attack, 'n despite bein' woefully unprepared, I fought anyways... And while her determination 'n desire to protect me and everyone else made me Digivolve to Ultimate for the first time... I don't think it worked properly. Felt weird. Can't describe it any other way, just... Weird." She explains this to Toki slowly, finding it hard to speak about, but ultimately feeling that she needs to. Silent for a solid few minutes, Dorothy pushes up her hat, and looks directly into Toki's eyes with her own, her frown not nearly as large now, but the look of worry still apparent. "Not like she's bad, but like she might... Worry 'bout me way too much. She, uhh... Gets pretty worried whenever I get banged up out there."
"As for what I said 'bout her gettin' sick, she doesn't act like it, but..." Before Dorothy can continue further, the door to the school opens up and Alice slowly comes out with mild frustration evident even from a distance, that difficult to read but inherently negative expression of hers quickly turning into a mostly fake smile as she returns to the pair.
"Some of my notes are missing. Odd." Ignoring Dorothy's comment on purpose, the Tamer who fancies herself as a teacher puts the note she did find into her bag, "That said, are you two getting along? Is something on your mind?" her blue eyes dart to Toki's direction, a slight frown forming on her face. " It's not a big deal, either way, I have them copied down in my notebook. I don't know who would be interested in notes on Digimon behavior aside from me, though."
Alice seems mostly unaware of the previous subject being discussed. Perhaps that's for the better, Dorothy thinks to herself. The two turn their glances to each other, slightly tense, before Alice looks to Toki once more, holding her notes close by. "Thinking about it, Spirit Warriors aren't really that strange at all. It's like a symbiotic relationship."

Toki listened as Dorothy spoke. He hung on every word, trying his best to think about what to say in regards to this situation. It must have been so difficult for the both of them, not really understanding what's going on with Dorothy's Wisemon digivolution. He wasn't even aware some kind of...hybrid effect could even happen between a tamer and the Digimon. It was kind of like spirit evolution but...also not? Again, he'd heard of Biomerging before but this was definitely a different situation altogether.
He wanted to say something. Anything. Judging from Dorothy's expression alone this must have been so hard for her to reveal and talk about in such detail. However, Alice came back before he had a chance to give his own thoughts. He quirked an eyebrow slightly at her words "That is strange. I'd offer to help but I wouldn't have the an idea where to start looking...hm." he pondered for a moment before Alice said it wasn't a big deal "Still...they couldn't have just vanished. I can't imagine anyone else coming here specifically for those notes...much less take them."
He looked between Alice and Dorothy, noting the atmosphere of the conversation and deciding not to directly press the issue for the time being "We're getting along pretty well! I'd like to think so, at any rate." he said with a genuine smile to the both of them "We were just talking a bit more about how things around Rosewood are still a little tense after that attack, but things seem to be picking back up again. The Digimon here are an admirable bunch." He hoped this was sufficient since Dorothy really seemed like she didn't want Alice to know what she was talking about with him.
"Symbiotic relationship...yeah I guess you could put it like that. I like to see it as something a bit more...well, spiritual. There's a certain mysticism about it that really can't be explained in a logical sort of way. Maybe that's just me being overly emotional and poetic about things, but who knows?" he said with a shrug.
After a moment, he sighed and wanted to at least ask "How has everything been for you two? I'm here to listen if either of you want to talk, you know."

With Alice back, the pair seem to be less interested in talking about their unusual problem, given the fact it seems to be a sore spot for both of them. For now, at least. The emerald haired woman nods a little at the fact her notes are missing, the disappointment in her voice clear for both Toki and Dorothy to hear. "It does worry me... Who would even want to sneak into a small school? As much as I hate to say it, there would be infinitely more profitable locations here to raid... Which only worries me more given you said there have been attacks on Rosewood."
"C'mon, with people like us here, it'll probably be fiiine!" Dorothy gives Alice a nudge, laughing a little under her breath. "If somethin' happens, me 'n Alice will be on the case, given how we almost have a second home in Rosewood." She suddenly makes a more serious expression, almost glaring at her own Tamer. "And if somethin' happens to you, I'd rather not have ya throw yourself in the way of danger."
Alice responds to this with a slow nod, seemingly getting the message. For now, at least. "...That is understandable. Just as long as this place is safe." She takes a few steps away from her partner and closer to Toki, "You're right. It doesn't feel like studying Digimon or what they do is a... Science yet. Even when just studying Dorothy things aren't always consistent or precise."
"I ain't letting you poke at me with weird things, ya big dork!" The Witchmon laughs in response, positioning herself behind Alice with the floating broom. "I'm sure if ya contacted the rest of your friends 'bout stuff it'd make more sense."
"I'll contact the Field Club about it later." Alice chuckles back faintly, turning her attention back to Toki once again, the spirit warrior still deeply interesting to her. "Anyways, you're always welcome here, be it for research, helping us out... Anything, really. You seem like the sort of person can depend on." Holding out her hand, she seems to expect him to shake it. "For now, though, I think it's best if we got going soon. It's been a while since I've been back home... Any last questions? Maybe a promise to meet up later?"

Toki looked back at the building and sighed a bit "It is pretty worrying, yeah...though stealing some research is pretty small scale compared to the attacks...but it really depends on what they stole and what they want out of it. I'll try to keep an eye out for anything suspicious, alright?" he said, hoping it would reassure the two at least a little.
He smiled at Dorothy's declaration of looking after the place as well "Rosewood's lucky to have people like you." However, Dorothy was also fiercely defensive of Alice and didn't want her to throw herself headlong into unnecessary danger, which he respected "I'm sure the two of you will figure something out together. If you ever need anything just let me know. I'll try to help out however I can."
He chuckled slightly at Alice's assessment "Well, the very existence of the Digital World just shatters a lot of what conventional science and belief is even remotely aware of. Who knows what will happen when the world learns more about it...or if portals start appearing in other places of the world. The human and the digital world will need people like us to explain it...shoving it under the rug isn't going to help matters at all."
It seemed as if Dorothy and Alice had a plan in mind for how to figure this out, so that was good. "Hopefully you and your friends are able to figure out what happened here." he said. Toki blushed slightly at her praise and calling him dependable "A-ah, well I'm glad. I try my best. Yeah, I'll let you know if there's anything I need from here, or I'll point out this place to others who need some information." he said as he shook her hand. "It's about that time, isn't it? I don't really have any questions right now, but I'd love to meet up later for a chat or if you need something."

"And we'll call for you whenever we need your help. And you're most certainly right that eventually, the two worlds will have to integrate more." Alice slowly gets back onto Dorothy's broom, a faint smile on her face. She seems to be a bit more cheerful than when the meeting began, perhaps feeling like she's learned a few things. "It helps that Dorothy here's almost as excited about the Human World as I am about this one."
"Gyahaha, mostly 'cause it's fun there!" Dorothy laughs, the Witchmon back to her usual mood as she watches Alice fiddle with her Digivice. Dorothy almost seems legitimately happy to have let a little of what's weighing her mind down finally be spoken, even if there isn't exactly a solution yet. "But yeah, You sound a lil' homesick, Greeny."
Alice's response comes with a slight nod, as if she wasn't expecting Dorothy to say that. "You're right, actually. I've been so busy doing things here that... I kind of forget about things elsewhere." The emerald haired woman opens up a portal with her Digivice's Digi-Port function, the shimmering gate enough for the two to head through, and she hops off Dorothy's broom once it's there, with Dorothy herself standing up soon after. "It's been great talking with you, Toki. I'd love to chat when you get back from your journey. For now, though, It's probably best if I take a break from things."
With a slight glance to the Spirit Warrior, Dorothy speaks up as well. "And I'll keep her from buryin' her face in books all the time. Don't worry 'bout either of us, okay? Just me 'n Dork Queen doin' as we always do. See ya!"
And with that, the two head through the portal, which quickly closes, leaving Toki alone with nothing but the sound of gently rustling leaves for company, the area around Alice's workplace being relatively quiet.

Toki smiled brightly at the two of them, glad they seemed to be doing a little better now. "See? The two of you got a mutual passion for something. Teach each other and see what comes from it. Who knows, you might learn something you never thought you'd know about your home worlds."
"You two take care and get some rest. I hope you can figure out what's going on regarding the research here, but I'll let some of the village guards know that things have gone missing." he promised as he waved to them. "It's been great talking to you too! Next time we meet, I think I'll have some pretty interesting stories to share."
He gave a thumbs up to Dorothy "Sounds good. You and Alice have a good day!" he watched as the two of them left through the portal, the quiet of the area settling in as he took a deep breath. The idea of someone taking research for their own gain unsettled him, but there wasn't much he could immediately do about that.
For the moment, Toki took in the quiet atmosphere and mentally prepared himself for his own adventures. He'd have to go meet Aylin at Whitewater soon. After that, it was the moment of truth for him. How it would all end was unclear, but Toki wasn't going to be deterred. He took one last look at the school before he began to walk away, the soft crunch of leafs underfoot echoing in the silence.
