To be honest, Angel wasn't looking for an answer to that question. She was doting her precious Zubamon, a smile on her face as she looked on the egg. Cas' words came as a surprise to her, enough that her ear gave a flick like cat's, Angel calmly listening to each word that was said.
That Cloak and Dagger might have saved the structure of the Digital World as a whole. That the lives they saved might have been countless... and that Terminus might have been next. Slowly, the Renamon stood up, giving a sigh at Cassandra's hopefulness.
"The amount of work you've all put into this has been incredible. Denryu in locating the statue, Emma in coding the red card, and your own efforts in protecting this world... but look where its gotten us." The fox gave a shaky smile, shaking her head. "Oliver throws himself into everything headfirst and his bounty skyrockets. Emma hasn't been able to properly fight since enduring Azulongmon's Soukai. Cloak and Dagger reduced themselves to near nothing... and you..."
The fox grit her teeth, that smile coming to an almost contented peak, before she simply tossed herself at the Baalmon. Arms flung around the demon, as she buried her crying head into her shoulder. Angel had a strong, brash front, a foul mouth, and an unpleasant demeanor, but beneath all that?
Well, even she had her limits. "God fucking dammit..."

She froze. Truth be told Cas had expect Angel to hit her. She wouldn't have begrudged the Renamon that. She wasn't human anymore. Wasn't entirely a Digimon either, but she figured she could probably take a punch and if that was what she needed Cas was willing to give it to her. She hadn't expected to find her arms full of crying fox as the Digimon's tears soaked into the ragged cloth of her robes stirring the shocked Baalmon into action as finally Cas brought her hands up to return the hug. Carefully rocking back and forth on her heels as she made a low soft shushing noise she could distantly remember her own mother making once upon a time. She couldn't remember the face of her mother. It had been long before the Reaper had birthed whatever hellspawn she was and even before then the memory had been hazy. Just the distant sensation of safety within someones arms and the distant memory of the scent of spearmint and antiseptic.
The strains of a gospel song, old when her home had been new rose as a humm in the Doctor's throat. The soft refrains of "Swing Low Sweet Chariot," rising to her lips all the words, but the chorus lost to time within her mind as Cas ran a comforting hand down Angel's back. She wished then she'd gone to church more. Not because it was where she had belonged, but because the old Reverend had always known what to say when her mother cried. She knew how to comfort gunshot and disaster victims. Knew what to say to ease the dead and dying. She knew how to lie, to absolve last regrets and sins of those who wouldn't live to see the after-effects of their own demise.
She didn't know how to comfort the living....but she wasn't such a coward not to try.
"Well if either of us knows about being god damned I think it's me. Not many people living or dead can say they've been fucked over by three sovereigns in a row." Cas joked voice rough with emotion as she chuckled dryly.

Angel hated this.
She hated feeling like this. She hated how the world always seemed stacked against them, the pain that everyone around her had gone through. This fox had devoted everything to Denryu's cause - if she could see how her General was good for the world, why couldn't the world go along with him? Why did their progress have to be marred with schemes, tricks, and blood?
Those frustrations and losses built up over time, until they finally overflowed, the flood of her emotions breaking through the dam as she openly cried into Cassandra's shoulder. It took the Baalmon a minute, but that shattered embrace was returned with a calmer one, her choking tears starting to calm down as the doctor tried to comfort her. A gentle hum, a wordless lullaby, a careful hand reminding her that she wasn't alone in this...
... And those words. Words that were admittedly off-point, but so far off point that it actually managed to bring a chuckle to Angel's teeth. "... Holy fuck, you suck at this, Doctor." Pulling back, the tears coming to a stop, the fox instead sat down, wrapping her arms around her knees as she shook her head.
"... This isn't even going to be the end of it, is it."

"To be fair my patients are usually out cold by the count of ten so I usually only have to pretend to be competent at comforting people until the anesthesia kicks in." Cas quipped giving Angel's back a comforting pat as a rueful if slightly pained grin stole it's way across the Doctor's face. At least as awful as it was she'd been able to crack the Renamon up though she couldn't deny the fox's words.
"Denryu and I...we're not built for peace Angel," She spoke with a soft tired sigh as she strained to figure out how best to explain it.
"We want peace and happiness for those we care about. Better lives for our friends and people, but some of us are just bred for war. Our battlefields may vary, but our purpose is the same. Some of us cannot go quietly into that good night." The Baalmon admitted her voice gentle, but sincere. The truth clear in her words however painful.
"Perhaps one day we can enjoy the peace we earn, but til then there will always be another threat. Another dragon to slay." Cas explained lapsing into silence as she glanced away from Angel her eyes downcast in shame.
"I'm sorry."

"Well, I guess its better to have a good hand with the tools than the words..." Angel sighed, the positive emotion at the start of that sentence near drained by the end of it.
Of course, none of this was going to be easy. Angel already knew the answer, and the Doctor's words only strengthened what she already knew: Denryu was dedicated and in it for the long haul. No matter how much progress they made, there was always going to be another fight, or at least another 'something' that this group could do - and so long as they could do something, Denryu wasn't going to sit still.
Honestly, that was inspirational to her. The General's headstrong and blunt nature was a unique one to behold. Both as an 'Agent' and as a Digimon, he didn't bat an eye at Cassandra's appearance, only viewing it as objectively as possible. Heck, even more than that:
"There's just no 'can't' or 'what-if' with that man. If there's a way, he'll seek it out - and he's not afraid to put his money where his mouth is. I know we've lost a lot - and where we're going, we're definitely at the risk to lose more. But..."
She let a moment of silence hang in the air. "... if its with him, I can see it through to the end."

"It's one of the many reasons I love your General. Others would tell me to quit. That I've done enough, but he understands that so long as I am able to help I'll never be content to stand on the sidelines," Cas spoke her voice soft with emotion as she smiled at the Renamon with a rare almost goofy grin. Her expression tired, but warm; too exhausted for the perpetual sorrow that she had worn for so long about her like a shroud.
"He understands because he's just as bad," She chuckled with a shake of her head, "But you're right. It seems where both along for this strange mad ride and I wouldn't really have it any other way." The Doctor quipped giving the Renamon's shoulder a gentle squeeze.
"Do you want a moment alone with..." Cas trailed off nodding towards the golden egg that was one of her twin partners.
"If not I was thinking about breaking open a bottle of the good stuff and see if Denryu can still do math drunk."

"You two are either the best or the worst for each-other. Trust me, there's no middle ground." Rolling her eyes and chuckling a bit at Cassandra's rare silliness, the Renamon returned her gesture with a pat on the ultimate's shoulder.
As for the eggs? The fox looked over her shoulder, and shook her head. "The camera's online for this room, so we should be able to keep an eye on them. Unfortunately, eggs are eggs." And eggs were boring, generally. As for that bit about the scotch, the fox actually gave a grin.
"Shit, I'll join you for that. Fair warning, D's a bit of a lightweight - but one or two shots in he might actually do math better. I've no idea, really."

"I'd suggest drunken strip poker but I think I'd win on the merit of wearing more layers then most of you combined," The Doctor quipped with a chuckle inclining her head in agreement in regards to the eggs. While leaving them here made the Baalmon's heart constrict unpleasantly at the thought of not having them within line of sight, that was indeed what camera's were for. Also motion sensors.
"Come on. I stashed the good stuff when my tastebuds started to go. It's high time I introduced Denryu to smoky mountain moonshine and we'll see how well he does after a couple of mixed drinks with that in it." Cas spoke with a grin stalking out of the room and down the corridor towards one of the closets that at a glance looked to be just filled with old papers and cardboard boxes until she dug under the leafs of parchment and started pulling out bottle after bottle.
"I hid it around the time Holly started visiting on the off chance she got a taste for the stuff like Tawna or Mikemon," She explained balancing one of the empty cardboard boxes on her hip as she filled it with her stash pausing for a moment in thought with a long necked bottle of fireball whiskey held loosely in her grip as she tilted her head in consideration.
"I wonder if Breach or Demon can hold their liquor."

"Heh. You'd think so, but its a close race between you and the General in his full masked outfit. Breathable fabric stops being a benefit when there's more than two layers of it." The Renamon, with only two gloves to her name in most forms, could at least share a chuckle with the Baalmon when it came to this sort of thing.
Still, drunk math sounded far more agreeable. Following along behind Cassandra, the fox blinked as the doctor poked through what looked like an unused room... to reveal a surprising amount of moonshine! She hid it from the Meicoomon? "Good call, but I'm surprised Demon or Cloak didn't find this stash on their own - oh, yes, Demon actually takes quite a bit before he starts to feel anything. Part of its body weight, but most of it is honestly Demon being Demon." Considering a bottle of rum for a second, Angel simply scratched her nose and put it away, soon following the Baalmon back to the main room, where Denryu was talking to Volt:
"Alright, so we'll update the biometric locks, and it looks like we're going to have to register a new keycard and the like..."
"Just organize it with the next password reset, bump that up a day or two. No point doubling it all up." Denryu gave a shrug, looking over his shoulder as Cassandra returned to the main room. "Hm... how long you been hiding that around here? Surprised Angel hadn't already sniffed it out."
"Oh, piss off." She gave a sarcastic roll of her eyes.

"Cloak's poison of choice is cigars. He likes the smell and taste of the smoke. Psycho always said it reminded him of what the air during a battle tasted like and while I adore my partners I'm pretty sure he could huff the smell of cannonfire and attack charged ozone like an alcoholic housewife guzzles fine champagne." Cas drawled out the slight hint of her southern accent hinting at her exhaustion, but her bright crimson eyes looked more awake and alert then they had in a long time. They both knew she hadn't really been hiding the booze from Holly, but she appreciated the Renamon not bringing up such a touchy topic.
Instead balancing a box full of booze on her hip the Baalmon saunted back the way they came only pausing at the doorway a smile twitching across her lips at Denryu's comment. "As a fellow delinquent I would think you of all people Denryu would have an appreciation for the creativity developed in my erstwhile childhood in regards to hiding alcohol." Cassandra teased as she moved to set the box down on the table.
"I've decided that I'm going to get you drunk in the name of science and get myself drunk in the name of temporarily forgetting why I'm literally blue and seeing how much booze it takes to get me said drunk now that I can actually get drunk." The Doctor declared as she straightened only to pause as a brief look of horror flashed across her face.
"Oh god I really hope I can get drunk and that I'm not like Tawna and have to drink fucking Drain-O."

"Say what you want, the guy likes his liquor."
She knew all about that night with Dr. Cat, after all! The fox managed a chuckle as she followed Cassandra back to the common area, already finding Denryu amused with this concept. Volt, however, simply returned a sigh: "Oh, fine. You 'organics' have fun with your poorly-optimized-fuel drink, while I keep up with the wiring..."
"... What's up with him?" Looking over her shoulder as the Kokuwamon made his exit, Denryu gave a small shrug. "Probably a bit of overwork - he's on his 'admin day' to keep this place up and running, so we'll make it up to him later. Anyway..."
It didn't take them long to set up: three simple glasses and a bottle-and-a-half of whiskey between them. Angel started it off, recoiling a bit at the scent before downing what was about a shot of the stuff. "Gah... you humans know how to stuff these things full of alcohol, don't you."
"Take it from Angel - shouldn't really be any different than before." Leaning back, Denryu took a sip of his own. "Been a long time since I've done something like this."
"Yeah, when's the last time we've had down time anyway? Sheesh!"

"I'll help him with security soon as the security isn't likely to kill me," Cas murmured softly taking pity on Volt as she eyed his retreat, "Well except Breach. Breach is always likely to kill anyone, but eh I adore him anyway." She added with a chuckle downing her own shot of whisky with a soft humm at the smoky burn. Slowly relaxing back into the couch as she listened to the idle banter around her and swung her legs up to rest across Denryu's lap. Something like contentment slowly unfurling within her chest like a lounging cat.
"Downtime..." Cas murmured low under her breath rolling the word across her tongue as if she could taste it even as she poured herself another glass of whiskey, "I don't think till now any of us knew the meaning of the word." She added with a chuckle before eyeing the smokey liquid in her glass thoughtfully.
"Do we have any cokes? There's a bottle of jack in that box and I could go for a little pop with that weasel." Cas quipped chuckling softly at her own terrible pun.

"Hmph... I'll agree with you there, Denryu's not really the type to know how to take a break." Angel sighed, taking another swig - but really, what else could the Renamon say about his tamer who kept on working while he had a medical Digimon tend to his broken hand off to the side? Thankfully Dr. Cross put a stop to that kind of behavior real quick.
As for the soda, it didn't take long for the fox to stand up and check the fridge, finding a fresh 2 liter of Pepsi, setting it right on the table. "Honestly, never even had the stuff myself - this was all Emma's gig."
"Well, have at it if you want to. Personally I can't do anything like that without a load of ice." Taking another swig, the three settled right on in. And Angel couldn't help but crack a chuckle in Denryu's direction.
"Oh, what?"
"C'mon, never took you as the type for something like this. When's the last time you've actually had a drink?"
"Definitely been a few months - think I did manage to sneak something when we finally got the red card sorted out, I guess?" Yup, definitely not much of a drinker here. "But its the same for you?"
"Oh, please, its because you don't keep the stuff around..." Well, that, and Dagger didn't seem too much of the type. "Anyway, Jack-and-Coke... is that just half and half?"

"Well it's pepsi so it's an inferior product to coke so more like seventy five percent soda and twenty-five percent jack," Cas quipped motioning for Angel to grab the soda as she carefully mixed a few drinks with a practiced hand. A pleasant sort of numbness settling over her as she passed out the cups.
"Truthfully I never used to drink much before the stuff stopped effecting me, but I was familiar with alcohol mostly because believe it or not it's a fairly decent way to treat shock. Which when growing up where the nearest hospital was an hours drive away shock was more likely to kill you then whatever injury would." She murmured recalling the distant misty mountains of her childhood.
"Still we've all been wound tighter then springs for so long now," Cas mused eyeing Denryu with a rueful smile, "You're of course as bad as I am. Bottling it up and slinking off to deal with it when no ones looking." She teased nudging him gently in the stomach with her knee, reveling in the simpleness of the casual contact.

"It's all the same stuff to me, really..." Angel gave a shrug, taking one of the mixed drinks in hand as she leaned back in her chair. Denryu, however, gave a rare roll of his eyes. "No, trust me, Pepsi's only barely acceptable as a back-up. Emma's the only one I know who actually prefers the stuff."
"Here's the exercise nut pretending he has an opinion about soda." A bit of alcohol was all it took to bring up Angel's snark, it seemed! Stifling a laugh as Denryu shot her a small, joking glare, the fox leaned back as Denryu picked up the conversation.
"Shock, huh? Out here in the Digital World, sometimes its the safest option to drink. I won't trust a single water tap in the Dark Area, but a bottle usually won't lie to you. Granted, that's never really been a problem with the portals, but..." Eh, something to keep in the back of the mind, anyway?
Admittedly, Cassandra hit on a pretty sour spot with that last bit. Denryu stifled a cough, letting it largely go without comment, as something finally clicked in Angel's head. "Oh, right - the doc wanted to see you try and work through a few of these while you're buzzed..." Pulling a textbook off a corner table and setting it in the middle, Denryu gave a blink.
Then looked right over to Angel.
"... Would you even be able to know if I was doing Trig right or wrong if you were sober?"
"Um... that's..."
Yup, silly idea. One that earned Denryu putting the open textbook right on top of the fox's head like a hat.
