"Right," Cas winced, remembering not for the first time why she cherished the fact their relationship was built less on emotional discussion and more on plotting and planning. Mostly because when it came to touchy feely stuff while the Doctor tried...she was just bad at it. Years of study and lack of 'friendly' contact leaving her social skills outside of hostage negotiation rusty. She was however, trying. Though it was for this reason and many others why she usually drank alone.
"Though you're forgetting that they list the answers to the practice problems in the back of the book." She joked her smile only a little strained.
"Though if anyone could do trig drunk it's probably you."

"Wait, they are?!"
Shoot, that changed a few things! Plucking the book off the top of her head, the Renamon flipped right through to the back of the book - and stared blankly at the different versions of 'sin', 'cos', and 'tan' written across several pages, with frankly indecipherable graphs from her perspective. "These aren't even numbers..."
"Oh please, math stopped being numbers ages ago." Denryu chuckled. And yes, while he could do the Trig in front of him in his sleep, the General had a different and more 'inclusive' idea: pulling a drawer open, he drew a deck of fresh cards, cracking open the fresh plastic. "Another idea, I could show you how bad Angel is at Poker?"
"... Tch. I'm not that bad."

Recognition flashed through the Doctor like a wildfire as she sat up from her lounging position nearly spilling her drink as her eyes alighted with excitement. Her wry grin returning to her face at the sight of the cards. "Well since you've raided Emma's card collection it's not as if I really can hold a candle to you with our usual card battles. Though I think pokers a fair enough playing field." She joked finding herself curious about what sort of hand the General favored.
"Angel and I had been joking about strip poker, but given she only has gloves we figured that gave the rest of us a leg up," Cas teased flashing the fox a grin.
"Don't worry you've never seen me attempt to play pictionary. Needless to say my artistic talents don't include drawing."

"One of her card collections. She's still got every trading-card-game in the books holed up in her apartment."
"Apparently, Magic the Gathering trades favorably with Digimon cards in some markets if you look hard enough. Either way..." Denryu shrugged, chuckling a bit as he naturally dealt out for Texas Hold'em, splitting an even amount of chips between the three parties.
"Yeah, and my hands don't allow for drawing either." Angel gave a call, as Denryu checked without checking his hand. "Let's see, drawing... well, I got a bit of it out of the projections I've had to draw so I can sketch, at least..."
It didn't take long: over just a few hands, Angel found herself already running low on chips, whereas the General proved to be quite an efficient bluff, able to at least squeak even with the Baalmon without seeing too many hands go to the pot. Which, of course, frustrated the fox to no end: "C'mon, ya'll call this playing the game? What's the fun if you don't even play the hands out?"
"And this is why that Impmon keeps inviting you out for these games, Angel..."

"I'd like to be surprised that there's a card game trading economy, but I really can't find it in myself to feel such," Cas mused eyeing her hand, the General, and the Renamon respectively as they played out the game. The General was good. His style conservative like she'd at first predicted though it was a toss up on which of the favored the long game more. The fact most of the hands she'd lost had been mostly feeling out his style had cost her, but she'd managed to slowly recover her stance with a few well played rounds.
"Really? She must have gotten bored of beating or illustrious Mayor Wolf or he's gotten smart about not playing with her," She quipped a fond smile coloring her lips in regards to the Mayor of Tenebrous and their Head of Security. Truthfully neither were enviable positions and more then a few mons had initially pushed for Cas herself to take over, but while the city was her heart and soul the Doctor didn't have time to mind the minutia of running the entire place. More importantly Wolf loved his people and genuinely cared about the City even if one might not realize it from his gruff manner. Time and mutually shared bloodshed had made Cas rather fond of the Strabimon.

"Well, you need more than two to get a good game of Poker, really."
Smirking at that, Denryu pressed right into the next hand, calling Angel's pitiful amount that she let ride with an 'all-in'. The fox smirked, flipping pocket aces to the general's three and five of clubs - only to watch her own hopes get wiped away with a flush in the first three cards.
"... Okay, really?"
"Not like I have anything to lose when you're betting five chips, Angel." Denryu chuckled, taking his slight lead as the Renamon slumped back in her chair, taking a long drink from her own glass. "Right, let me just sit here and watch the two of you have fun..."
"Should be entertaining with the two least lucky people in the world here, fox." Dealing out another hand, Denryu took a small glance at his cards before promptly folding. Yeah, no point pretending on a Jack-2. "Case in point."

"To be fair I mostly win by bluffing," Cas admitted laying down her own hand after Denryu folded with a shrug as they dealt out the next round of cards. "Truthfully I win most things either by bluffing, being too spiteful to die, or making sure the other option is mutually ensured destruction," The Doctor mused thinking back on her various fights and encounters before playfully flicking a discarded card from the stack at Angel's nose with a wry grin.
"Though that's not to say tactics weren't involved," She added finishing her drink and pouring herself a third as she finally began to feel the beginnings of a pleasant buzz.
"And besides we're not unlucky. We're just karmedically challenged."

"Or any combination of the three. I've been in all of those shoes before."
"Fucking hell, you two are just a coupla peas-in-a-pod, aren't you."
Without having pretense to really feel invested in the game anymore, Angel gave a laugh, flopped back in the chair, and gave another long swig of her drink before pouring herself a fresh one. She was easily halfway through her third, just as Denryu was winding down on his second. The fox gave a blink, batting away a card that was thrown at her face as a new hand was dealt.
"If Karma's supposed to balance out, we should be investing in the lottery about now... hm." With a small glance at his cards, Denryu considered a check - before simply rolling up to bet about four times the blind. "That oughta do."
"Hah - now you decide to play the game?"
"Well, sure. She actually knows what she's doing, here."
"... I'llshowyouwhoknowswhatshe'sdoing..." The fox grumbled.

"The only time Karma seems to work for me is in terms of me surviving all the bullshit that gets constantly dropped in my lap and sometimes not even that," The Baalmon quipped with a soft chuckle eyeing Denryu's bet for a long moment before matching it.
"If Karma actually balanced out I'm pretty sure we'd all be billionaires and retired given the countless thousands of lives we've likely saved through our actions that the world will never know about," Cas mused out as she leaned back a bit in her seat a thoughtful look on her face.
"Honestly even Denryu's attack on Ceresmon would have probably saved countless lives as it's not like the public, the sick, or the downtrodden, the ones who actually need it, could actually get her fruit. Only the stupidly wealthy that could hire adventurers to track her down or had friends in the right places could have managed it. At least if you'd managed to get some of the fruit and figure out how to grow another tree or marketed it at a reasonable price you likely would have saved more lives then it ever will just flying around." She pointed out with a loose shrug.
"Unfortunately it was too easy to paint you as a big bad so the adventurers came screaming in itching to pick a fight with a 'villain." Cas added with a sigh and a roll of her eyes before laying down her hand, four of a kind, "Though you do cut a dashing ne'er-do-well."

"Call this a counter for being able to maintain a base like Paradise for so long, and it might make more sense..."
Eh, maybe not. It was probably just the alcohol making Denryu hang on that point on karma for a bit too long. As Cassandra mulled about the Ceresmon, the rest of the hand played out in the background with relative ease, the General and Cross easily passing checks as each card fell onto the flop. "I can tell you I wasn't the only one trying to steal, though admittedly I was after the whole tree and not just the fruit. Apparently our favorite feline doctor's got a stash of preserves that he keeps off the inventory... though I don't know if that's true or bias against the 'Greed' issue."
"Given how the Lords of this day and age turned out to be exaggerated comic book villains, I'd say D here still gives them a run for their money. But we always got what we needed to - holy shit four threes."
"..." Yup, a pair with an ace kicker didn't beat that! Giving a small whistle, Denryu shook his head as he pulled the cards back for another hand. "Welp I just threw my chips to the wind. Don't think I have quite enough to pull an Impy to get outta it..."

"Oh no he most certainly has some of the stuff. It's what he's used to keep me on a lifeline more then once," She quipped her mind carefully skirting over that painful memory like a small child darting past an open door in the dark of the night. "I should honestly see about stealing him some more here soon to restock as a thank you," Cas mused raking in the pot with a wry smile.
"Still I think it was more skill then karma that let you maintain Paradise. Those who triumph merely by luck will never keep that which others gain through skill," Cas explained tossing in her own two cents on the matter her countenancegrowing stormy as she remembered the terror she'd felt when she realized the base had been attacked.
"If I would have regretted setting Luminas up to burn their actions then ensured that I harbored no such feelings." She muttered under her breath as she poured herself a new drink.
"Speaking of Demon Lords, rumor has it we may have one in our backyard."

"Part of me thinks that 'steal' is 'have it good with the Witchmon who can get you on its back'. Granted, Denryu and I have fucked that up beyond all repair, but is that big bird really gonna miss a fruit or two every couple of months or so?"
Angel gave a sigh, rubbing the back of her glove against her nose as the game carried on. True, Denryu and Cassandra were quite stubborn in their approach - which didn't matter much with cards, the game soon cascading into Cassandra's favor.
"Angels do as they're ordered. Its a matter of picking through the 'heads' if you want - well, wanted any real movement against them."
"Humor's not lost on me that the Lords perked up right when Luminas got shaken up - hm? Wait, here in Tenebrous? Is that why Breach has been acting up?"
"Could be." Giving a check on pocket 7s, Denryu gave a nod to the Baalmon. "Anything interesting come out of it?"
