K sat there staring at the bottle, she remembered her life as an innkeeper quite well as it had been how she spent the vast majority of it. She'd rub at her head softly, feeling that strange long stretch of familiar loneliness open underneath her like a vast chasm. She was going to die and there was very little that she could do, not many she could talk to about it and get the support she felt like she could use. The support she was getting from her husband and from her children was wonderful yes but... She was leaving them behind, she was going to pass and there was very little that she felt justified that. Her own goals had come before the very thing that she desired more than anything else in the world.
Upon hearing the padding feet of her husband she'd turn her head, she'd manage a small smile and lean into the mikemon as he chuckled at her. Where did she have the time to pick up something like this? Well the renamon bit her lower lip and exhaled softly.
"It's from my inn, when I was there... and you found me it was the one bottle that hadn't shattered or broken apart. It had been in my desk and was saved from the heat mostly. I've been keeping it in my infinity storage for a long time and... well to make sure it didn't get damaged during travels once the library was around I uh... well. I hid it underneath our floorboards under the bed. So it wasn't so much me finding it as just.. having it this entire time. Just seemed like a good time to well. Break it out so to speak."
She sighed softly and pushed her head against the mikemon's, she seemed out of sorts and her eyes stayed on the wine bottle for the next few minutes as she was obviously trying to think of something... The renamon closed her eyes and eventually let out a long exasperated breath.
"What do you think mikemon? Should we break it open?"

"Oh..."
At that realization, Mikemon's chuckle died down, replaced with a soft smile as he closed his eyes, giving a short nod as he remembered. Coming back to that town to help with the fungal issue, only to have found it burnt to the ground. Where did K manage to stow the bottle away on her person? Maybe she had just clutched onto it for dear life.
But here it was, at the end, a momento from her peaceful time in the forest. She clearly took care of it, not wanting it found, broken, or used on accident. And as she asked that question, Mikemon's ear gave a flick.
Should they break it open?
The cat didn't answer, not immediately. He'd excuse himself to the neighboring kitchen for a second, reaching into a drawer, finding a simple cork screw and two small glasses. He'd set the latter down on the table, and with that bottle opener, set it right into K's hand, giving a small nod.

"Y-yeah... seems like a lifetime ago even if it was only... what? Two years?"
K mused lightly and sighed, it was really so long ago that it felt like she was a different person. Someone that didn't make mountains move or was even capable of a digivolution past rookie. She remembered the smooth texture of the bottle when she first got it, from a trader that was passing through trying to get the gazimon family to buy all sorts of things... An individual that she hadn't seen in a long time and presumed dead.
The renamon blinked a bit when the other stood up, going off to the kitchen leaving the fox to her thoughts. She'd simply stare at the bottle, wringing her hands lightly after a few moments. It didn't take long for the mikemon to return, two wine glasses and a cork screw. She'd accept the bottle opener and give her husband a small smile. It'd take her a few tries to actually open the bottle and with a soft pop the wine would let the room know of it's somewhat fruity scent.
"Heh... looks like it's still good."
The renamon would gingerly pour herself and the mikemon a healthy portion of it before moving to stop the bottle back up. Though she fumbled and ended up dropping the cork onto the floor, with a huff she'd look at the mikemon and just shake her head; a smile forming on her lips.
"I think that means we should keep it open..."

"Not even that, I think."
A year and a half? Maybe a little longer than that? It both felt like an eternity and yet barely any time at all, now that they were here and together. K had gone from a simple innkeeper to a knight, a hero, and a mother, her life on a never-ending roller coaster up to this point. And the cat was there to witness it all, to be there and support her every step along the way.
That bottle served as the last memento from her life as an innkeeper, and as it was finally opened, that vague fruity scent would fill the room, a full-hearted wine opened for the two of them. He took his glass, and blinked as that cork fell and broke against the floor.
He blinked - and stifled his own chuckle.
"Well. Splitting a bottle should be fine." He'd raise his glass to K, before giving a small sip to start off. "After all these years, this bottle's finally being used for what its meant for."

"Hard to really tell when what started..."
K mulled lightly and rubbed at her own muzzle, syre had been born quite some time ago it felt like. They were really blessed, she had been a knight, she had been a hero of sort to some and a mother to only a handful. It was a roller coaster she enjoyed living and she wouldn't of traded it away for anything.
K swirled the dark liquid in her glass and smiled lightly as the mikemon spoke. Splitting the bottle on such a night would be fine? K leaned back and sipped at it lightly, letting out a smooth sigh as the taste slammed into her. She'd exhale slowly and close her eyes. It was certainly worth the wait...
"I had gotten it with the intent of sharing it with someone... I'm glad that I can say that I'm sharing it with you."
She'd reach out to gingerly rub between the mikemon's ears and then chuckle lightly. Honestly when it came down to it... What else would she of done with this bottle? Who else would she of shared it with. The renamon leaned slightly and found that the glass went quicker than expected, she'd blink owlishly when noting that it was finished...
"...Four days huh..."
K mumbled softly and started to pour herself a healthier glass of the wine, if the mikemon needed a refill she'd do the same for him. Gripping at the glass she'd muse lightly, swirling the liquid around and around and around...
"Normally when people learn that sort of stuff... they panic but we're different aren't we? We've always been. Do you think that's why we ended up together? Well. Asides from the love and kids of course. Do you think we were destined somewhere to meet and fall for one another? Because we're... different? Do you think the next.. me will be different too? Like. Different like we are....?"
Whatever the answer one thing was certain. She'd close her eyes and let out a long breath. It was full of stress and the exhaustion from today.
"...I'm afraid mikemon."

"Well. I'm glad to be the one you can share it with."
He gave a short smile, giving a longer pull from his glass to get a better feel for the wine, before lightly leaning against the fox. Indeed, it didn't take them long to get through their first glass, Mikemon holding up his for a fill as his wife topped off her own. But the reality of the situation fell right back with two simple words.
'Four days'.
That was all K had left, and they both knew it very well. Setting his own glass down for the moment, the cat calmly listened to the Renamon's questions, her words. Why did fate find it necessary for the two of them to find each-other? Was it 'destiny', was it because they were different? Mikemon considered those words, before he shook his head.
"I don't want to think that our relationship came from something like that. We're two Digimon, in control of our own lives, who desperately fought against what the world set out for us. Myself as a Demon Lord, and you as a vassal of the Knights' cores. Perhaps it was the means that brought us together - but we both fought to make this world a place for us, individually. To me, what we are, are two strong Digimon who wanted to make this world a better place."
That was what sat right with him, but he couldn't know the answer to that question for sure. As to that next point, the cat gave a nod.
"... I'm scared too, K." He gave a sigh. "I'm holding up as best I can... but when I put Holly to bed and stepped out into the hall, I was left by myself for a moment. A world without you, well..."
"It'll be a lonely one."

"Heh..."
K let out a firm chuckle and leaned back in her seat, somewhat amused in the prospect of sharing a drink even though considering everything she was an absolute lightweight. Tomorrow morning was definitely going to be interesting.
With the seriousness of the situation left on their shoulders the renamon's eyes wandered to her husband. She watched him quietly and listened to what he had to say. It didn't take her very long before she was hugging him against her. Two strong digimon that wanted to make the world a better place and beyond everything that they had been born of... Well. They had fought against that too for their own happiness.
Hearing that he felt alone, that he would be in a lonely world without her. She bit her lip and leaned down, pressing her head against his in an effort to at the very least comfort her husband somewhat.
"I won't even be able to help you when I'm gone and that's the thing that makes me worry the most. You'll still have the kids but.. but.. I..."
K stammered a little bit and look down at her hands, she felt her core pulse for a moment and the renamon let out a soft surprised gasp. Her hand coming to her head afterwards as she mumbled out something, it was a mix of the tone that silence often used and was of her own volition in some capacity.
"I will find you. No matter how long it takes."
K looked somewhat dazed and after a few moments reached for her glass again. In a few awkward moments she drained the glass and let out an small somewhat irritated huff.
"The kids are going to be there for you, they'll do everything they can. Everything. Holly will push herself, syre will probably do work to get past the pain but they'll need you. The world will still need you and even if I'm gone... tch. I'll- I'll do something I don't know. Maybe I can- Tch!"
The strength in her offhand was far greater than she anticipated and there was the soft sound of the glass breaking in her grip. She'd look at her hand in disgust and her expression darkened considerably.
"Damn him..."

It would be lonely.
At this point, Mikemon felt that he resigned himself to that fact. That it would be difficult, that he might never feel the same way again. But he would hold and endure, to make K's last days on this planet as best for her as he possibly could, even if it meant holding this grieving feeling in his heart to next week and the years that would follow.
Plucked up into K's arms, Mikemon returned that hug, grasping his arms around K's shoulders. The Renamon tried to comfort him, but seemed to be struggling for the words. Yes, he'd be alone.
But once more, with absolute conviction, she made that promise. That she would find him, no matter the cost, no matter how many years it would take. Mikemon would blink, knowing full-well that it wasn't a promise that the fox could guarantee to keep.
Thirty percent of the time, a new Digimon had no memories of their past life - and even if they did, they were never the same Digimon. Watching K down that glass, Mikemon gave a blink. "H-hey! Calm down, you don't need to take it that fast-"
Not like he could get a word in! K was internally distraught, talking about the kids, how he'd still have them there for him, and that he still needed to be strong for the world. K seemed to realize now that she might not be able to keep her own promise.
And with a crack, that glass broke in half, the shrapnel falling against the end table. K swore, and silence filled the room once again. Mikemon grit his teeth - and reached forward, tightly hugging around the fox, burying his head against her.
"K. K, that's enough." The cat looked up to her, eyes watering, but a determined tone to his expression. "You've done so much. For me, for the world. Right now, of all times, you don't need to be putting more on your shoulders. Somehow... some way, we'll find a way to support each-other. And... K?"
He gave a short nod.
"Even if you can't make it back. Just... just know that, for the short time I've had you, this year is the happiest I've ever been."

K was frustrated beyond belief, she wanted to be there for her husband, wanted to do everything in her power. But all she could do was make a promise about it, push forward that she would come find him and the frustration had boiled into taking a large healthy portion of her wine into her. At the mikemon's blinking and claim that she needed to show some restraint she wanted to scoff. But she felt it almost immediately and woozily shifted, a hand brought up to her head.
She'd gently cradle the mikemon against her and bit her lower lip rather hard. Not enough to draw blood but there was a pained hiss. Who cared what she did for the world, heroes came and went. People came and went, but the ones that stuck around and kept serving it, kept on fighting for it. Those were the ones that you could never replace. She was just going to be some legend in the years to come...
But of all things he told her that she didn't need to put more on her shoulders, her expression softened and she felt the tears rolling down her cheeks... She'd lean into him and gingerly press his head against her chest. He'd be able to hear her beating core as it struggled to overcome the corruption still.
"...You... fricken... Sovereigns damn it... I've never been happier. Not at the inn, not during the time I was traveling... you and the kids made me so bloody happy. I'm... so thankful for all of this I can't even put it into words..."
Though maybe she didn't need to, it wouldn't even be that long before the mikemon felt the pressure of her hug ease and the renamon's body softly pressed against his own. She had fallen asleep in such a way where she was leaning up against him. Much like her daughter she was exhausted and well...
She sorely needed the rest.

Of course she hadn't been happier. Of course this was sad! Of course neither of them wanted to lose the other!
Damn it, why did it have to be like this at all! Mikemon's words were meant for her, but really, the cat was on wits end himself. To lose her, the one who meant everything to him? The very fact that he was able to keep himself composed right now was nothing short of a miracle. He hugged right back around her, gritting his own teeth as he heard that cursed core beat against his ear.
"You don't need to put it into words. I'm the same right now. Happy... happy and terrified. So please..."
Hm? He felt that grip loosen - and with a blink, he looked up into her eyes. K... wow, she fell right on asleep. With a sigh, the cat shook his head, and carefully laid the fox down on the couch, before cuddling right up in front of her. His own eyes felt heavy, and, somehow, he'd manage to curl up and drift off to his own sleep.
One more day with the kids. Then three more for them, as the wanted. Barely any time at all...

K didn't hear what the mikemon had to say, there was the exhaustion that had set in and claimed her mixed with the drink... Well she was never really a heavy weight to begin with. The renamon curled slightly to accompany the mikemon as he curled next to her.
What came next wasn't something that she expected. She didn't dream very often. But when she did it usually meantsomething...
Three figures around a bonefire.
A hackmon, a, a renamon and a irritated looking terriermon. They seemed to be waiting for something. The hackmon reminded her of the jesmon, the renamon with it's blood red fur reminded her of examon and... the terriermon seemed to remind her of the gracenovamon.
She'd approach them, their heads would turn. Jesmon would motion to one of the empty logs surrounding the fire. She'd take a seat, feeling heavy. Feeling tired.
"Was it worth it?"
She'd blink and look up, that heavy muted feeling reaching into her throat and made it hard to respond. She wanted to say something but the sensation of a gauntlet on her shoulder brought her attention over. She'd look up, the visage of omegashutmon greeting her. Silence of all things. She'd speak, so that K didn't have to.
"We made a difference in the world, just like each of you. Of course it was worth it. We won. Against an evil that would do the world a great harm."
The terriermon was the next to speak, frustration in their tone and a soft trailing voice after the fact. They'd cross their arms, looking up at the omegashutmon in a mix of fear and curiousity.
"You think he was really evil? He was doing what he thought was right just like you did. All that happened was you won and he didn't."
The blood red renamon snorted and shook her head leaning forward to tend to the fire. It burned brighter and somewhere distant K could feel her own resonate with it.
"The difference being that the world was cheering for her. Not him, so many came together to fight that fiend and here he is trying to get the last laugh."
The hackmon shifted and took a more comfortable stance on his log before turning his head to look at K. Then up to silence and then back down to her.
"Your story is ending just like ours, we tend to the bonfire now. Waiting for the word to move on. But Silence isn't ready to move on yet, so we wait."
The gauntleted hand slowly pulled back from the renamon's shoulder and just as abruptly did the dream end...
..as the flaming sensation and burning in her chest started. She felt her core seize and the renamon let out a shrill cry before falling off of the couch. Grasping at her chest as the burning threatened to overtake her. She'd grit her teeth and could feel the pounding of her core as it struggled against it's outer corrupt shell.
Somewhere deep though there was a resonating pure signal that washed over the area like ice. In the other room holly let out a surprised yelp as that signal washed over her too. The sheer pressure of it was astounding and the frustration that could be felt from K wasn't anything like the pain she was feeling at this moment!

Mikemon woke with a start!
As K rolled off the couch in pain, she managed to take the cuddling cat right with her, the doctor briefly sprawled on the floor as he was flung upon it. He scrambled back up, though, treated with the horrific sight of a writhing, pained K, grasping at her chest, her core. Mikemon looked on in terror, his eyes narrowing as he approached her.
With the strength of a champion, he'd at least get her to lie back against the ground, Mikemon pressing his paws right up against her chest. His eyes tensed in focus. Thankfully, the core's corruption hadn't progressed beyond the doctor's expectation, but what he didn't expect was K's immune system to try and go at it so forcefully! "Tch..." He'd keep one hand at her core, an emerald glow pulsing on over it as the other checked her forehead, just as he heard Holly yelp in the next room.
"Holly!" Mikemon's voice belted out! "Mom needs ice! Fill a bucket and bring it on in here!"

Just what was with that data signal?
Holly rubbed at her face and slowly sat up from the spot she found herself on the floor, the sheer intensity of it was rolling in waves from the-
From the living room. The same living room that her ma was in, that her da was in. Her eyes widened and she was halfway to the door, already meicrackmon and reaching for the knob when she heard her da call out. Her ma needed ice and her da wanted her to get a bucket?
Well there was a loud crack of displaced air, and now the meicrackmon was in the kitchen, scrambling around for that bucket. Once found she'd dump a bag of ice into it rather unceremoniously; still kicking off the cob web of sleep.
K on the other hand struggled and let out a small pained gasp as the energy from mikemon helped but also didn't help as much as it should of as her immune system kicked into higher gear. Her internal temperature was making it seem like her inner fire was actually coming back, as the renamon was usually nice and cold most of the time.
Holly would come over with the bucket, looking between her ma and her da. There was sort of an awkward one two count before the ice was placed around her mother in a way that would cool her off. The renamon's hands gripping tightly at her husbands hand as she could just feel the burning.
"L-like a bon...fire...!"

Oh thank Sovereign for his efficient daughter! A 'pop', a bit of rattling, the sound of ice clattering against itself. The sound fell to the background as the cat kept her focus on the fox in front of him, looking at her data, ensuring her stability.
It wasn't that the corruption was advancing - no, actually, it was the opposite. This was a heavy immune response from K's body, and like a body fighting off a disease, it started to overheat in an effort to fight it off. K's head was almost scalding to the touch, a definite heat radiating off of her body to hopelessly fight against the Wisemon's infection. Left unchecked, her immune system might end up damaging her own body.
Hence the effort to try and reduce K's temperature directly! The ice was placed right against her head, front and back, the cat pressing a chilled towel right against the top of her chest. He bit his lip as that grip grasped around his wrist, as he shook his head.
"Calm down, K. Just let me know you're here. Count backwards from ten, then back up again. C'mon..."

Holly was if anything efficient.
She'd rapidly put out the ice as she could, trying her best to comfort her ailing mother and noting that the ice itself was actually melting slightly from the heat that the renamon's body was putting out. She'd spritely go to the kitchen to get another bucket along with more ice for the one that she had already, the clanging and clattering of her trying to find it was made apperant and after a moment there was the sound of multiple meicrackmon's sifting through the kitchen.
Maybe a minute passed before the meicrackmon came back with two full buckets of ice with a look of irritation on her face. More so at the fact that it took so bloody long!
K panted as she could feel the heat of her body start to decline ever so slightly, she was still radiating heat far greater than she should. She'd screw her eyes shut and proceeded to try to count, staggering through the numbers and eventually mumble trailing them off.
"T-tch... Mikemon please..."
The meicrackmon nervously fidgeted as she looked between her parents, biting her lower lip lightly as she didn't know what to do; the buckets were where they needed to be and thankfully she had her clones looking through the kitchen for more buckets still, one of the clones stuck it's head out a single cookie in it's mouth which only got the dirtiest look from the actual holly. The clone winced a bit and promptly threw the cookie away before going back to trying to find more stuff to help the ailing mother...
"T-the d-dream... A... A bonfire... T-tch..."
