Gar let out a sigh as he stretched out across the grass beneath him. "Ah okay, I should really get going now Rubes," he mused as he sat up, rubbing his cheek with a hand. The dog digimon in question, Ruby, lifted their head up and look towards Gar. "Already? Has that much time passed already?" Ruby questioned with a tilt of his head and flick of his ears. Gar lifted his digivice up in front of him, the little mint green alpaca charm he'd tied on to it bumping against the side of the device with many uses. Right now Gar was using it to check the time in the Digital World compared to the current time in his world. "Yeah sorry Ruby, but I have to pick up some fresh stuff from the market today. We're already running low on stuff in the fridge but I also just wanted to make something bigger and nicer for my mom tonight," Gar replied as he clipped the digivice back on it's usual spot at his hip, clipped through a belt loop. "Hmm, well there is no problem with that per say, I just wish you had told me sooner so we may have done something more fulfilling today." Ruby huffed as Gar patted the top of his head, bending his docked ears back a bit. "I know I know! I really am sorry about that," Gar replied before pulling his hand back and grabbing his bag nearby. "But I promise next time I come by we'll do something super fun!" He said with a wide grin. "Oh really like what." "Oh uhm, I haven't really gone to many of the villages that often except for those few times, maybe something like that?" Dobermon hummed, eyes closed in thought for a few moments. Before he stretched downward dog with a yawn before getting up fully. "I see no flaws with that. I have been rather, lackluster in my interactions with others, so it may do me some good." "Aha wow I thought you were gonna say no for a second don't scare me like that!" Gar replied with a laugh and a wave of his hand. Ruby huffed in response.
Gar properly stood up now, stretching out his back. "Alright alright alright I really should get going now, but I will be back soon! So don't get too lonely without me!" Gar teased with a laugh as he reached to un-clip his digivice after realizing he needed to use the digiport installed on it. "I don't get lonely! Just get a move on before all the shops close you problem child!" Ruby barked back which just fueled Gar's laughter.

Wasn't every day Gazimon encountered something interesting out here in the sticks.
Well, wasn't every day that Gazimon found himself trekking through the sticks. Admittedly, the odds of finding something of merit on the maybe one or two times he'd been out this far in the Server Woods was low. Maybe that made him feel lucky this time.
Truth told, this wasn't his usual scene. His usual territory was a little dangerous for him right now. He'd done that to himself. So here he was, skulking through the backwoods with his pack hauled over his shoulder like some kind of low-budget guerrilla with nary a cause. The calm stillness of nature was nearly enough to drive him mad. No ever-burbling stream of voices or familiar hum of power cables. So when he'd first heard the quiet, distant voices, he wondered, idly, if he had gone crazy. Then he wondered if he had been followed.
After a few moment's discretely approaching the source of the sound, though, the disquiet of those thoughts eased. Instead, it was two figures... One distinctly digimon, and one not. That piqued his interest just enough to bare the risk of being detected, and sidle quietly closer. Just quietly closer enough to conveniently overhear snatches of their discussion. Slowly, a grin overcame his features. What a dutiful boy. This was the first opportunity for, well, opportunity in... however many kilometers he'd marched in the quiet today.
Taking the laughter as his cue, he screwed up his face before breaking into an easy smile, just friendly enough to counteract the inherently untrustworthy caste of his face. With that, he simply walked on, moving into open view of the duo as easily as if he was simply passing by, hefting the heavy pack on his shoulders.
"Well, whaddya know! Another couple travel--" The Mammal digimon's voice was cut off as, mid-wave to the pair, his foot seemed to catch on nothing in particular, sending him stumbling up before them to land rather roughly on what should have been his face. Fortunately, well practised in such endearing pratfalls, he'd turned it away just in time. A few odds and ends from his pack were sent scattering about him, completing the scene: various scraps of junk metal, a heating element appropriate in size to a hairdryer, and a half stuck together notebook that looked like it had been fished out of a brackish pond.
Grumbling, he started to pick himself up, the mischievous glint in his vermilion eyes fortunately difficult for the pair to pick up. "Agh, I really oughta watch my step..."

Ruby was immediately on guard the minute the Gazimon came into view, his ears stuck straight up and his hackles raised in warning with barred, and very sharp teeth.
Gar, however was another story. He'd been surprised at the sudden arrival of a new voice, but after witnessing the digimon fall and their stuff gather everywhere, he was much more concerned. "Oh dear are you alright?" He asked as he jogged over and crouched down towards the Gazimon, much to Ruby's growling displeasure. "None of your scraps nicked you did they? You didn't twist anything either did you?"
"Gar don't just go up to a stranger digimon! They could be dangerous!" Ruby growled as they trotted over to nudge Garret away and put space between the stranger and Gar.
Gar just gave him a disapproving look accompanied by a pout. "Ruby don't be rude! They could be hurt!"
Ruby growled as, with their head, they pushed against Garret's chest and shoved him away from the Gazimon. "They could hurt you in return! It's a Gazimon! You never know what they could be planning, they're too mischievous of digimon!" At that quick explanation while Garret rubbed the shoulder he landed on Ruby turned to the digimon in question. "You. Do not take me for a fool, rookie. What do you want." They asked, well, more demanded, as their blood red eye leered down on them, sharp teeth glinting in the sun.

Just the reaction the Gazimon had been hoping for. He had to struggle not to seem too pleased as the human reacted with the near-immediate empathy only a truly kind heart could produce... Or a sucker, as they were more likely to name them down in the depths of Tenebrous. Instead, he shook his head, the grey and fuzzy stalks of his ears bobbing slightly with the motion as he pushed himself into a quadrupedal position and raised his head to get a better look at this 'Gar' and 'Ruby'. Sure enough, that was a digivice straddling the kid's hip, and the Dobermon's protective attitude affirmed just who the digimon it was bound to was.
"Haha, don't worry about it, was just a little slip," Gazimon assured Gar past the imposing form of the looming Ruby, and except for a few scuffs and patches of dirt marring his (already admittedly less than pristine) gray coat, he didn't look particularly worse for wear. He swallowed and avoided openly wincing at the tooth-and-hackle intimidation the doglike digimon was displaying. His own dark red eyes locked with that narrowed pair for only a moment before he glanced aside, a small shift in his position accompanying a hoarse little "Gah!" as he put more weight on one of his fore-limbs... Intentionally providing a small cut on the palm of the hand-like member by pressing it tight to the jut of one of the several rough-edged metal objects scattered about him.
Only then does he wince, standing into his bipedal position and lifting both of his hands in a gesture of disarmed mollification, the effect of which is slightly dampened by the fact that each limb shows a row of long, sharp claws. Nonetheless, the movement revealed the small but not completely unsubstantial cut that had been inflicted. "Say-say-say! Easy there, big guy! I ain't here to start trouble..." Really, he wasn't. Ideally he'd turn some quick gain on this situation /without/ trouble. Maybe something to help keep him going for his next run-in with civilization. He just had yet to formulate just what that might be. Maybe with a little more time and talk...
"... Alright, ya got me," He admitted with a sigh, large ears lowering perceptible. "I was passin' by and heard talk about the market, yeah? Just seems your friend there, he could save a few bits doing a little foraging in the forest here. Lots of good stuff, fruits, nuts, berries... Heh, even some mushrooms, you know where to look!" Slowly, very slowly, he raised his gaze again to the piercing crimson glare of the Dobermon. "I'm no fighter, so scavengin' that kind of thing alone, out here in the woods, it makes me real nervous! But with a strong champion like you, well, I guess I just thought we could all help each other out..." His eyes moved, carefully, between the digimon and his human partner, watching each of their reactions carefully.

"I said do not take me for a fool, whelp," Ruby immediately replied with a growl in his voice, raised hackles starting to look a lot more like spikes ready to puncture someone, or something. "You are not the only one who scavenges around h-" Ruby was aburptly cut off as Gar shoved them to the side and spoke.
"Ruby stop being intimidating! They've got a cut on their hand! Paw? Whatever. What if it gets infected!"
"Garret there are more dire things in the world than small cuts on the paw!"
"But it could get worse!"
Ruby growled again, this one much deeper in his chest than the previous ones. "Fine! Bandage up the stray then!" Ruby snarled before whipping his head back towards Gazimon, stabbing him with a sharp stare, his muzzle scrunched up with sharp fangs on full show. "Lay one filthy claw on my human and you can say good bye to that tail of yours. But I assure you, any particularly wretched business and I will take more than that tail."
"Geez and you wonder why other digimon avoid you," Gar huffed as he fished out some bandage wrap from inside his bag.
"Why would I wonder sich things when that's the point of intimidating them!"

"So then why's the whelp the one bringin' it up?" Gazimon asked, his brow raising fractionally in a display of near-genuine bafflement. Admittedly, he felt some relief as the human pushed his canine partner aside, at least reducing the proximity of those vicious fangs by a half-meter, give or take. It was almost enough to make him test his luck with another conceivably innocent jab... But the second show of those chompers convinced him not to pretty quickly.
"Sure, sure, no funny business," He promised as sincerely as he could muster.
Seeing the human already working to dig up some bandaging, Gazimon let his expression slowly transition back into something approximating a friendly smile, showing his own sharp teeth in an admittedly more amiable way as Gar reveals a strip of bandage. He offered out the lightly damaged limb in question, showing the thin slice drawing a few inches across the gray pelt... And he did so very slowly, lest Ruby get the wrong idea and decide to remove the problem by biting it off. "Hey, thanks kid! Don't be too hard on your pal though, he's just lookin' out for ya, really. We Gazimon do get a pretty bad rep." Never mind that he was normally only too happy to play into that reputation.
"Either way, nice to meet ya. Sorry for startling you guys. Guess it's not too normal to just bump into a friendly face out here in the middle of nowhere, huh? If I can ask, what brings you out this way, then, if you ain't scroungin' up food?"

Oh if Gazimon only expected a bandage his in for a stinging surprise. "Well we just don't normally bump into others outside of towns. The digital world is a pretty big place after all," Gar mused as he also pulled out some neosporin, also known as a wound disinfectant. "We mostly stay around here since Ruby likes the cover they get from the trees but also the possible alerts they could get from other walking on the underbrush." As he spoke, Gar took Gazimon's hand in one of his, careful of the cut, with the disinfectant in the other. Now, he didn't look it, but being a gymnast gives a VERY strong grip. "Now hold still, this will probably sting." And that was the only warning they got as Gar sprayed a generous amount for such a sized cut just to be safe.
Ruby was sat nearby by, pretty much glaring bullets in Gazimon. But if that glint in those gem red eyes was anything to go by, then they were about to enjoy this thoroughly.

"Sure sure, makes sense. Not exactly my first pick, but I could see it," The rookie said, turning his gaze to their surroundings as if considering it for the first time. It figured that the Dobermon preferred a spot where he could get the jump on anyone approaching. Gazimon didn't particularly want to think on what might have happened if it had only been the digimon without a human partner that he'd happened upon.
He blinked those sharp red eyes as an additional object came into view; wow, the kid was going all out, even using medicine. "I'm Gazimon, by the by--" His ears gave a discernible twitch to the offered warning before the sting in question is on. A small yelp of surprise punctuated the application of the disinfectant, his face scrunching into a rather animal snarl and his arm tugging at the natural urge to escape the bite of pain, only to find the human's grip unaccountably strong. A digimon accustomed to some of the longer-shadowed quarters of the digital world, he was no stranger to pain... Didn't mean he liked it, though, and it showed through clearly in his verbiage, "Jeesh! Easy, hey, easy with that stuff! Been bit by Kunamon with less sass!"
The initial pain of the sting quickly died away, but it left him looking grumpier than he had been before, and with that self-satisfied Dobermon looking on it felt like some small defeat.

"Ah sorry sorry, I probably should have given a better warning!" Gar apologized as he set the medicine to the side. He let the spray set into the wound for a moment before he grabbed the bandage wrap. "Though the fact that it stings like that means it's working and you probably did have some rust bacteria or something in there," He mused, winding the bandage around Gazimon's paw. "But it's nice to meet you, Gazimon! I'm Garret but please call me Gar." He motioned his head over towards Dobermon. From his positioning Gar couldn't see it, but Ruby was grinning, if also keeping himself from insulting the Gazimon from reacting to a little sting like that. "You probably now this already as well from my berations but the Dobermon over there is Ruby."
"I would say it's a pleasure to meet you but it really isn't."
"Ruby!"
"What? Haven't you said it's important to be honest?"
Gar huffed but accepted his verbal defeat. "Yeah yeah, can you grab the medical tape, I forgot to grab it," he replied instead.
Satisfied, Ruby did just that. He dug through the bag with his snout and not only grabbed some medical tape but also some scissors so that Gar could actually cut the gauze and the tape off their respective rolls. "Here you go. Having fun playing doctor?"
"Y'know I could always just stop bringing that lunch meat you like."
"Bold to assume such measly threats have an effect on me!" That's what Ruby said but he did tilt his ears down a little before returning to sitting nearby like a guard dog.
"Mhm, that's what I thought."
It didn't take him very long to cut the gauze and tape, securing it soon after so it wouldn't unwind after he'd made sure to keep it tight enough to actually being in contact with the wound, but loose enough that it wouldn't constrict blood flow to the paw. Or data flow? Actually maybe that didn't matter at all now that he thought about it- "Okay all done! Sorry again for the poor warning.."

Gazimon was about to go on to complain further when Gar instead carried forward the conversation, introducing himself and his partner, and causing Gazimon's glinting gaze to shift from one to the other. Garrote? The low-level virus digimon couldn't help but wonder if that was his given name or something he'd earned... And then go on to wonder which would be worse. Between that and the unexpected strength behind his grip, snug enough to match the name, he began to wonder... Had he misjudged this young human? His worried frown showed through for a long moment as he watched the boy go about bandaging him, careful as could be, and his gaze flickered from injured paw, to the human's face, and then back again.
... Naw, definitely a total softie.
"Gar, eh?" He managed to salvage an expression much more approaching the smile, which was quickly twisted on its side into a slight smirk as the digimon is introduced in turn. "Ruby," He repeated, before adding with appropriately weighted appreciation, so that it was difficult to determine just how genuine he is, "Pretty name."
His voice came in a raspy little chuckle at their back and forth. He could see in at least rough clarity how the boy kept the digimon cooperative, a thought that sees him offering a few additional looks towards the mysterious device pinned at the human's belt.
Gazimon was quick to tug his forelimb out of Gar's grip once the bandaging had reached it's inevitable completion. He gave a few testing flexes of the limb, moving his claws each in turn to test how the tape-job handled his movements. "... Hey hey, no worries, not bad! Thanks, Gar," Gazimon sounded practically genuine in that rough approach to praise, and offered the human a beaming, white-toothed smile--the most winning he could muster--and a wink. From there, he was quick to start moving again, beginning to gather up some of the assorted trashy artifacts that had spilled immediately around him. "You some sorta backstreet saviour goin' around out in the boondocks with that sorta stuff? Or all you humans got a clinic in your pocket?"

Ruby's hackles raised once again at Gazimon's obvious, or at least to him obvious, false pleasantries.
Garret was putting the supplies back when Gazimon asked but hummed to show he had heard him. "Well I'm not sure. I'm sure some of us do but I just like to be prepared and have a bad habit of tripping over my feet or knocking into others," he replied with a bit of a nervous laugh while he scratched the side of his cheek.
"Alright you've had your fix up now get moving. You've kept Gar from his responsibilities long enough tramp."
"Wait my responsibli- OH SHIT MY RESPONSIBILITIES!" Gar was now packing up much quicker. "I can't believe I forgot that quickly!"
"Really? I can believe it quite easily," Ruby replied with a head tilt.
"Oh geez I really hope the shops aren't closed already I should have left sooner!" Gar ignored Ruby's little quip as he unclipped his digivice from his hip, pressing one of the arrow buttons in search of the digi-port service he'd recently installed. "No not that, no, no, oh that one I should actually look into later, nop Ah there it is!" Holding the device out in front of him, Gar pressed a center button which started the process of opening up a portal to a little alcove in the city where he knew not many people passed. He still hadn't figured out how he would explain things to anyone who saw but it was still better than going through the river. It would take a little bit for the portal to load however, as it was new on the digivice and Gar still didn't know how to properly operate it yet.

"Heh, guess that follows! Maybe I oughta carry a heap of gauz and tape around, 'stead of this crap," Gazimon's laughter followed Garret's, a sound that was perhaps surprisingly warm. Friendly. Disarming. Of course, it was also his best defense against Ruby's hackly reaction, and he laughed a little louder still to make sure to drown out any oncoming snarls to follow.
"Easy, easy, I still gotta get all my stuff! And there's still that thing about rootin' up some stuff, right?" The smaller Mammal digimon pursed his lips in a display of distaste at the canine's continued needling, simply moving about and going about sluggishly gathering his things. The human's sudden exclamation caused him to drop one of the heavier pieces of junk on his foot, and it was only the boy's quick recovery of his digivice that stopped the rookie from swearing loudly in turn. He peered with some evident interest at the little electronic--a rarity that was practically unseen even on the ever-moving MalMarket of the night city. He sidled a bit closer. Those shifty red eyes shone with a light of greed and covetousness, but what was more, a genuine and far more innocent curiosity.
The drab gray of his ears picked up, subtly shifting like they were tuning, homing closer and closer to a frequency decoded by each sound produced with a press of one of those buttons, while Gar was simply looking through the functions. "Where... Did'ja get that, anyway? Humans... Most of 'em, anyway, they get those things when they come here, uh? There some lottery where they give 'em away on the other side, or they crash down in a shooting star or what?"

"Hm? Oh this? I uh, I don't actually know? See the thing is I didn't actually find it when I first came here, Ruby did as a Gabum-"
"Okay that's enough. Why are you so interested you little furry gremlin." Ruby had abruptly stood between the two, seemingly guarding both Gar and the digivice with a growl. "I see no reason why you should be so interested in powers far greater than yourself." Ruby had been pressing closer to Gazimon as they spoke, more teeth getting shown off as they went on. And they would have continued if not for the hand gentle whapping their muzzle, surprising him.
"Ruby that's enough. Considering how commonplace these things seem to be your attitude isn't needed. The guy is just curious as anyone would be so calm down a little will you?" Gar asked, his free hand set on his hip in mild disappointment towards Ruby.
Ruby's ears fell flat against their head at Gar's reprimands. He wasn't dense after all, he knew he was being scolded like a child. "Right, of course. Apologies." That was all he had to say before he trotted off to the side and laid down on the grass. He was still keeping an on things but he knew when it was best to step down for a moment.
With that Gar turned back to Gazimon, his previous disciplinary aura dissipating back into a host like friendliness. "I'm sorry about that, really. As a Dobermon he's a bit overly precautious. Y'know, the whole virus hunter data in his core and all?" Gar picked at one of his earrings for a moment as the digi-port application finished up putting out a portal and stabilizing it. "To properly answer your question, I don't know how most partners get their devices. Ruby gave it to me when we first met after I had woken up. Coming through Shibuya River wasn't the most pleasant experience in all honesty but oh well."

"Jeesh, just curious, don't mean nothin' by it," The Gazimon bit back a snarl of his own, deciding, instead, to lean a few extra inches away from the on-guard guard-dog. He gave a sniff, sounding just a bit put-out by Ruby's (admittedly to be expected) blow to his stature.
"Where I come from, these things ain't taken for granted--that's a mysterious and powerful piece'a tech there. Kinda thing you don't just go down town to buy," Those smouldering cinnibar orbs traveled away from Ruby's diminishing snarl to the inconspicuous little object under discussion. "... Yeah, yeah, don't sweat it, Ruby-cube. You're just getting the kid's back, I get it." Gazimon was, of course, aware in passing of Dobermon's nature; really, he had never gotten along with 'their sort', and that was as natural as eating or breathing or loading data as far as he was concerned. It still wrankled him a bit, though, being treated like the virus he was. It always would.
"... Don't suppose you'd be willing to tell me where you got it, eh pooch?" That little furry gremlin shot a look in the laying dog's direction, only to glance back to find the newly materialized portal floating innocuously before Gar. Gazimon abruptly dropped all of the junk he'd been gathering up on his feet with nary a whimper, gazing, transfixed, through that door: the distinct and measured lines of a city peered back through from the other side, a stark contrast to the greens and browns and organic rounds of the forest surrounding them. A city, but not a city he ever knew. The city of another world. "So, it, er, it can just do that?" He mumbled on, fascinated.

Surprisingly, Ruby didn't seem all that offended by the passing nickname. They really just huffed before actually answering. "I found it in the kid's water logged bag; I don't know how it got there or what it may have previously been." And as Ruby rested their head in the grass, it seemed that was all they would be sharing for that question.
Now it was Gar's turn to answer the small mammal digimon's question. "Well not at its base functions. From what I've seen base function only really go towards improving your partner. But I got wind of a little online upgrade shop and scrounged up enough to get this digi-port. It takes a bit to load still but it's better than getting wet every time I wanna visit," Gar replied happily. "Have you never seen the city before Gazimon?" Gar asked as he noticed the digimon's fascination.
"A lot of digimon may know about your world Gar but not that many have actually seen it. It takes a lot of resources and connections for such things," Ruby replied from his spot in the grass.
"Oh, well yeah I guess that does make sense," Gar muttered.
