Hasenya was particularly antsy that day. No amount of reading could hold her attention and tide over her restless boredom for very long, and she was starting to become impatient. Her very first mission for KIZNA was still a ways off, and the deafening silence of Ys was starting to grate on her. They didn't want to leave though, or else they would have by a now. A good long walk might have helped out immensely, but it could be any moment now that her time to shine would come.
She was really itching to do something, anything that could be considered productive. But it was a quiet day and not that many people around, and what people were around were busy with their own thing and couldn't spare a moment to entertain the pink gremlin. Hasenya wasn't upset about this fact or anything, though she was a little frustrated at the timing of it all. At some points she thought about doing a little more research just to kill some time, but she would be doing plenty of that soon enough. No need to burn herself out on reading before it's her job to do so.
Closer to the outskirts of Ys, near to the normal KIZNA meeting place the pink Renamon just sort of flopped down face first in the snow and groaned from intense boredom. They wanted something interesting to happen. But little did they know they would most likely soon regret that wish.

There was a special kind of dread that the Keramon felt upon the client for this mission approaching her. It was a Neemon with a particularly ear-grating speech impediment. He had wanted a 'swowd.' What was a 'swowd?' Mae didn't know, but in all honesty she really just wanted this particular Neemon to shut up. She had been certain it was a sword he wanted. To get that swowd, two people had to go up Terabyte Mountain and find it.
Talk about vague and really shady, but in all honesty, Mae did need a good excuse to drag herself up Terabyte Mountain...So, the Keramon had been lingering at the outskirts of Ys while the Neemon went to find themselves a second person willing to scale a mountain in search of a swowd.
The Neemon peered around the outskirts, seeming to size the city up before he saw a really pink...thing in the snow. Like a giant pile of bubblegum. Procuring a stick...The Neemon crept towards the pink Renamon, before poking her in the side with said stick. "HEY, WANNA GO ON A FUN ADVENTUWE WITH A SWOWD IN IT?"
Please, end the author. Please.

The Renamon's ears twitched hearing the snow quietly crunch. And then there was something poking her. She wasn't particularly pleased about it, but it wasn't really as that big of a deal as her sour mood tried to convince her it was. Before she could be poked again, she reached up and grabbed the stick while sitting up on her knees before looking at the Neemon. "What the heck are you on about? Adventuwe? Swowd?" Her tongue felt really weird trying to replicate the Neemon's speech impediment, and she was almost disappointed in how easily she did so.
"If you want me to do something could you like.. put it in writing or something?" Hasenya let go of the stick, before she could have a chance to accidentally set it on fire. She was mostly joking about the writing thing though, even if it would make it easier for her to understand what was being requested. "Where's this adventure gonna be? What sword are you even looking for?"
Her contrary and bratty attitude betrayed it, but she really was interested in this mission. She was just being a little jerk today.

"Yes! An adventuwe for a swowd on TEWWABYTE MOUNTAIN!" The Neemon made several vague and probably unhelpful gestures with every accursed sentence coming out of his pestilent little yellow mouth. God, what an atrocity this creature was. Someone should take it out back. Please. That being said, the Keramon had heard the conversation on account of how disgustingly loud the Neemon had been. "I dunno WHAT SWOWD it could be but I wanna find a SWOWD!"
It was then and there that the Keramon decided to intervene before this became a shouting match. "...Um...I'm sorry if he's being annoying. He posted a mission to find that sword on the bulletin board and literally nobody else decided to take it up. ...Plus I think finding that sword'll shut him up..." She muttered that last part. It seemed as though the Neemon had been ignoring her, expectant of some kind of answer from Hasenya. Would she join in or not?
"Awso, Neemon can't wwite."
Fuck.

Not much could have brightened Hasenya's day more than "TEWWABYTE." The Renamon had to stop herself, closing a hand over her own mouth and muffling the intruding fit of laughter, reducing it to a sort of squeak. She was going to lose it. Oh god, was she going to lose it. It shouldn't even have been as funny as it was, but something about it just kind of tickled Hasenya in a way that was almost funnier than papa Hikaru missing a chancla shot.
Fortunately for her, Mae was around to distract her from the hilarity of this abominable creatures speech impediment. She was very thankful for the rescue, there. "It's.. kind of obvious why no one has." She pointed out, though didn't make any attempt to muffle herself for sake of politeness- mostly because she just didn't know any better. "I'll do it though. It's not every day I get an actual good excuse to leave Ys." Hasenya finally gave her affirmative answer before the Neemon could explode into an uwu-infested tangent about SWOWDS.
"You say 'that sword' but he doesn't specify anything. I guess we know when we get up there and look around though." The pink Renamon shrugged and shook her head. "You're okay with me going with you, Mae? Don't think you'll get dragged down or anything?" She asked half-joking, though she was all too aware how problematic her abilities could be.

It took a few moments, but Mae slowly realized who she had been speaking towards in a vain defense of this disgusting abomination that we need to call Neemon because the other name in mind was a bit too insulting to put here. Somehow, by some twist of fate, Neemon had sought out Hasenya. Why was she out here? If Mae had to guess, the shark-toothed Renamon was bored.
Something she could relate towards, but this did not stop Mae's demeanor from changing a little bit. "I-I think he just means a sword. It could likely be anything, which is a bit...irritating to say the least..." See, while Hasenya had been trying to avoid an uwu-infested tangent around swords, Neemon seized any single opportunity his rotten monkey brain could to extrapolate.
"Any swowd! Just as wong as it's a swowd from Tewwabyte Mountain! And don't waugh!"
Someone got a bit defensive, yikes. Something Mae had not anticipated, however, was Hasenya actually asking if the Keramon herself had been fine with her attendance. Why wouldn't she be? It's not like she had slighted her or anything... She started to shake her head, before she caught herself and nodded instead.
"Yes! I don't think there's a lot to set on fire--plus your abilities would actually be quite beneficial. Every. Single. Future I have seen regarding Terabyte Mountain is incredibly cold, so you'd be great to have along...Plus you're not even that heavy, so I don't think you'd drag anyone down..."
That and she'd rather have company up the mountain that wasn't the goddamn Neemon.

"We got it, okay? We'll get your swowd." Hasenya just kind of shook her head at Neemon. This thing really needed to quit talking before she up and punted it into the hell hole it crawled out of. Jeez, and here she thought of herself as an obnoxious runt. On the upside, this guy's presence was a weird sort of ego-boost.
...Did she hear that right? Her abilities were useful? For a mission? It was almost difficult to contain the sudden happiness she felt hearing that. It wasn't like super heavy praise or anything obviously, the Renamon simply wasn't at all confident in her abilities. She would often sooner call them a "curse" rather than anything useful like an ability should be.
Even though she had pretty much been told she was useful as a space heater, she was more than okay with that. If she needed any more convincing to come along before then, she definitely didn't now. "I-I meant metaphorically with the dragging down thing but... okay." She responded sort of sheepishly while nodding her head. It was a subtle movement, but her tail did wag from side to side. It might not seem like it but she did have to try hard to keep from going into full-blown "excited puppy" status with it.
She was just so happy to know she wasn't just tagging along for the ride and or being a nuisance to everyone else. "We can leave right away then! It shouldn't take super long- I wager we'll be home before dinner time." Hasenya stated confidently, feeling a whole lot more sure of herself now.

Even Mae wanted to get away from the utter filth that was this Neemon. His mere existence triggered urges to kill that Mae had actually thought to be long-suppressed. Never mind the yellow waste of space, though. It seemed as though Mae offering Hasenya a compliment regarding her...erherm, status as a living fire hazard was well received. Or was it? The Keramon couldn't quite tell with people sometimes.
She'd be really happy if it were, though. That much was for certain. "Whether metaphorically or literally, you won't. I know this for certain." Wait, was the Renamon's tail waggling...? Holy crap, Mae couldn't help but smile at that. But, she had to keep herself focused on the task and not on the pink fox. "Yeah. Let's get going right now, then!"
"Can I co--" Neemon began, before Mae quickly cut him off with a "No."
"Bu-" "If I have to listen to you for any longer I think I'm going to have an aneurysm."
Yeah, they should probably get moving by now.

They were just enjoying basking in the praise when that creature just kept on talking. She wouldn't even call it a voice, it was just obnoxious noise that went in one ear and out the other. It wasn't every day they were told that their abilities actually had a use, and this Neemon was sort of killing off her mood. The Renamon glared at them, fighting the impulse to just up and hit them. Hopefully shutting them up.
Yeah, no. Hasenya wasn't having anymore of this Neemon's pestilent little voice making her poor ears melt. Before there could be anymore insisting on them coming along, Hasenya brought her foot back and swung it as hard as she could, punting the Neemon like a football off into the distance dunking them into some snow. "That little runt was killing my good mood. Let's go now." Hasenya started to sort of speed walk away before the Neemon could recover and potentially start yelling after them. She couldn't really wait for a response- but Mae could get onto her for making a client into a projectile a little bit later.
Leaving Ys probably wasn't gonna be all that eventful- Terabyte Mountain was where the fun was probably gonna be, and on the way up there the two could talk more without that Neemon being around to force nasty violent urges onto either of them. Hasenya was prepared for the frigid cold that waited for them just with her existence. The Renamon was pretty much a natural space heater, and she could get even hotter if she so wanted. There was no way for her or Mae to suffer from the cold- assuming the Keramon stuck close enough to benefit from her abilities, which was the original idea anyway.

You know, it was incredibly relatable to have the mood be killed by some hideous creature with the single most grating voice in this world and the next. Which meant that Mae could totally understand exactly why Hasenya went and punted the Neemon away. However, said Neemon gave them a mission! You don't just do that! Then they'll just go and withdraw any rewards, and that was terrible. Mae didn't WANT Hasenya to get denied some nice and easy cash, c'mon!
The Neemon sailed majestically through the air like a pathetic football that had just been taken out of it's misery by being punted into a resaca before he landed facefirst in some snow. "YOU. MOTHEWFUCKEW." That was muffled, but it was still very audible as the girls began to leave him to his snowbound hell. Of course...
Departing Ys was rather uneventful. The city was bustling as ever, true, Terabyte Mountain was indeed where the meat of this tale lay. Mae knew the cold that awaited them well, and as such kept close to the pink Renamon as in due time, the looming specter of Terabyte Mountain came into view. Of course, being this close to someone, even for this purpose, was...uh. Weird for Mae. "This isn't too close, right...?" The Keramon inquired before she stopped, staring up at the foot of the mountain.
They had a long walk up, didn't they? "Plus, where do we start to look for a sword...?"

It was a pretty good question. If in any other situation then yeah, sure. "If I have to choose between you freezing to death and my personal space, the question is really a no-brainer. Besides, this is one of the few uses I have and it's not like you're gonna creep on me." The Renamon answered pretty confidently, though honestly she was just trying to not give any mind to it. It was better that way, and they didn't need to both be awkward messes over something that honestly wasn't a huge deal when given the context of the situation. Though honestly it was sort of too late for the awkward bit.
"Plus you can like.. Back off a bit if it really bothers you. Just make sure to scoot back over if the cold starts to get to you, yeah?" Plenty of times before had she been used as a source of warmth in these cold northern parts of the digital world, and while all of those times were with family she knew she could trust this was.. a bit different. Still, if the others in KIZNA could trust Mae, then so could she. All that mattered was that she did her two jobs: Find a sword and be a space heater.
"Well.. As much as it would suck, probably up on the peak is where we're probably gonna find one without having to dig into the snow too much." Hasenya shrugged. Thinking about it now, she had never seen swords just.. laying around. They couldn't just go and make one either, since it would just fade away after awhile. She really didn't want to hear that Neemon whine about it either. "Unless you've got an idea, we're pretty much going for the top."

This girl was quite peculiar. Willing to sacrifice personal space for her sake? Well, that was something she didn't expect, but...If she were within Hasenya's shoes? She'd likely do the same thing with the skillset she had been allotted. Of course, even with their attempt at not being a pair of awkward messes? Mae still felt painfully awkward towards this subject.
But for some peculiar reason, she did not back off. "This form doesn't have fur and I want to conserve as much as I can, so...Here is where I s-stay." She decided. In contrast to people in KIZNA being able to trust Mae, Mae herself had a hard time putting trust in others. Well, that's not entirely true. She had a difficult time putting her COMPLETE faith in other people. Then again, she wanted to get this stuff done as much as Hasenya did.
It did make sense that the first place to search for a sword would in fact be at the peak of the mountain. "I do have one idea, but...Um. Are you afraid of heights? Or flying? It's not a great idea, I'll admit..."

"You keep stuttering. Should I turn up the heat?" Hasenya asked, clearly concerned. It wasn't too much to ask of her to make things a little warmer. It didn't cost her any additional energy up to a certain point. In fact, it took more to keep it all suppressed. They thought maybe Mae was trying to hide how cold they were to avoid having to get closer, which was fair, but Hasenya wouldn't be having any of that. It was her job and half the reason she was here, Mae was gonna have to let her do it.
"Dunno, never flown before." The Renamon shrugged in response to her last question. They weren't particularly anxious over the idea, but they did want a little more information about this supposed bad idea. "Heights don't bother me. Tell me more?" Hasenya had a good guess as to what the plan was but she was more wondering about the how of it. Wasn't Mae trying to conserve as much energy as she could?

"N-No, i-i-it's fine!" She was okay, really! Plus, any closer would introduce the risk of Mae actually making physical contact with Hasenya. Would that actually light her on fire? Well, that was anyone's guess. Even the readers of this post could take a crack at it! The Keramon managed the arduous task of getting over her nerves quite swiftly, however. She needed to in order to accurately explain the plan she had.
While Hasenya had never flown, heights did not bother her. A development that played well into what the Keramon was about to suggest. "Well, I can digivolve to Mega, pick you up, and fly us both to the top of the mountain. I don't know how long this will take, but it's a lot less unpredictable than scaling it with our own four feet, right?"
She would have to move quickly to conserve as much energy as she could, but it could likely work...

No, Hasenya wouldn't have set her on fire with just a bit of physical contact. She would have appreciated the concern for her personal space, though.. She didn't like thinking she was a fire hazard. Yes it was true, but it wasn't something she could be proud of. They just didn't want reminders- that's all. Fortunately for them both, this whole fear over being set on fire wasn't put into actual words so Hasenya didn't have to take a blow to her ego.
"That's not a bad idea, but you know it's gonna be colder if we go higher. I doubt I could get near hot enough to burn you if you go all the way to Mega, but... eh. Forget it, I'm worrying too much." Hasenya shrugged and shook her head. The plan was fine. They were fine. They hadn't seen Mae's Mega form before though, what could it be that it was able to fly? It was true though that there wouldn't be any worry over burning Mae, though. As it is, she could barely get hot enough to rapidly melt the snow under and around her feet. Not without concentration anyway.
