The human world.
A place that he despised for multiple reasons but unfortunately for him it was a place he needed to maintain a presence in now that some unfortunate information had made its way to some of his peers. He needed to keep a good face and that was hard when you spent most of your time in a digital world surrounded by digital monsters solving problems that they had or helping people that 'didn't exist' by normal standards.
It wasn't the same shop that he had before, no that two story house had been sold to some company and now it was some messy shop that he wanted nothing to do with. He lucked out in terms here and managed to get himself a nicer place. One that he was able to encroach on four floors and a two door garage rather than just the one. Sure it was some home beforehand for some wealthy individual but after a month of coming and going he was able to make it into a proper shop.
His hyper professionalism paid off as he was able to get most of it solved in short order too. So the only thing that made this place stand out was the fact it had a security wall while most places did it. The shop sign out front by the entry into the 'yard' seeming odd and jarring in such a place. But it was the only thing he could do.
The inside of it? Well it was damn well pristine. No customers had come in as of yet but then again he had only been open for about a week at this point. Not really huge in terms of sales but once people heard he was back he'd get a regular flow of customers again. The absolute behemoth of a man was well known in society hill for being very good at his job.
And on top of all of that the 'now hiring' sign that was next to his open one would be an ugly reminder of the times. With a larger shop he'd need a helper. Considering that the storage was the second floor and his actual home started on the third to end off on the fourth... Well. This place would need someone other than gretal who was only really good with phone talk considering her malfunctioning holosuit.
"Nothing today either it seems."
The man mumbled to himself and shook his head. Leaning back in his chair. The front end of the store, or what he liked to call the looking glass was still set up like how he wanted it. A clean view to the entire store, camera's in place at the corners that he could watch from behind a desk...
And the shatter proof glass where the more expensive stuff was kept under lock and key. To some the apparent wealth that kan had in his pocket would be staggering but it was all favor induced from his time with more shadier aspects. He'd just have to pay them back sometime, probably with either fixing something or let someone sleep upstairs.
He didn't care which.
"Something the matter?"
The voice of his compaion came down from the second floor and kan snorted lightly before making a gesture the other couldn't see.
"didn't expect it to be so slow honestly. But lets just hope we can actually get someone to work here. I hired you as a bodyguard. Not a receptionist."
"Damn straight. I'm going to the third floor to get the bedrooms set up... lemme know if you need me."
"Will do."
The man rolled his eyes and set down a laptop that he had been tinkering with. A last order from the digital world that he felt like mucking around with here. It was a lot more advanced than most things he messed with in the human world and would take a lot more time with the equipment here...

Days of job searching while hopping between the digital world and this one and juggling her responsibilities within both might finally pay off for Arakan. Funny enough she had never considered looking for some kind of work closer to her neighborhood. One wouldn't expect a girl like her to live in the wealthier parts of town, but her dad made good money and her stepmother was... kind of a spoiled rich brat. She had more words for that vile woman than just those three, but now wasn't the time.
The size of the building was a bit intimidating to her though. Normally she left home and went right for the train station to hit up the busier more commercial part of Shibuya for job applications, sometimes she even asked Charles for rides to more out of the way places. But since she had combed through that, today she went in a different direction at some point and then wound up where she was now, staring at a 'now hiring' sign and trying to figure out if a random high-school student qualified to work there. The only way to know would to be to go in and ask, so there was no sense in dragging her feet.
Arakan stepped into the store, leaving her bag near the door more out of courtesy than much else. She knew how some places could get about teenagers with backpacks, and looking around it was obvious she had nothing worth stealing compared to what was in the shop. Nervous as she was, she did her best to contain it while she stepped up to the front of the store and looked at the man who seemed pretty comfortable for someone who had probably been watching cameras all day. She could barely imagine having to sit still for that long with only one task to do- but heck, that's probably not even the position they were hiring for.
"Excuse me. Could I have an application?"
She asked in pretty much whatever way she thought Charles would tell her to, avoiding any sort of stuttering and even giving a short bow. Proper etiquette wasn't her strong suit, but she put up a pretty good attempt.

Kan's eyes slid to a bit of movement that caught his attention from his current 'task'. The man raised his head to spot a younger looking girl approaching his store. There was little reason to come to his shop unless you wanted a job or had something for him to fix. Considering how they left their bag near the entry of the store he had to presume that they were here for a job. Kan stood up, dusting off his hands as they had a little bit of it from the computer and gave the young woman a nod.
"Just a minute, spose there's one thing I forgot to print off today after putting that sign up..."
A small shake of the head and kan would step over to his computer that was by the few tv screens of the cameras. Honestly it was such a simple set up, but a few clicks and a loud printer later Arakan would have her paper application. He'd give a small bow in return to the young woman after passing it off with a pen.
"Here's a pen, there's a chair right over there behind the counter if you need some time to fill it out. Once you're done filling it out we can just move onto the interview."
The man gave a shrug and took a seat, starting to work on his 'last task' again. He was a patient sort and honestly looked to not be in a rush in any form what so ever. The calm and collected manner he had must of put him to a management position... or at least a worker bee that knew the in's and outs of the job he was given.

Arakan blinked, a bit surprised by that last statement. Briefly she wondered why she should even have to bother filling out the application if she would just get the interview right away, though she supposed it was a test of her integrity and how much she actually wanted the job. Or if one ere to look at it from more pessimistic viewpoints; a test of how willing she was to do work that didn't have much if any point to it because 'someone told her to'. Whichever way she wanted to look at it, it didn't phase her. It was just a little paper application, at most it would take like... five minutes.
"Thank you, sir." Arakan responded gratefully. Maybe she had a bit of manners after all? She took the application and the pen and then took a seat in the aforementioned chair, getting more comfortably setup to jot down all that standard information job applications asked for: name, birth date, method(s) of contact... The real usual stuff. Arakan kinda preferred this manager over the last few she had talked to, most seemed really stressed out and just kind of sick of everything. This was a refreshing change.
With the application filled out and a good bit of her nervous tension eased, she returned to the front to place the filled-out application back on the counter. "I'm done." She stated simply

Kan wasn't really the sort to beat around the bush, this was the first person to show up and ask for an application. They were well dressed, young enough to where they could move on and learn new things if needed... And he wouldn't be hurt too badly if they decided that this sort of job wasn't for them. The shopkeep manage a small smile and gave the youth a small nod.
"Of course."
Kan decided to busy himself in the back end of the store, mostly going over the equipment and tools he already knew the positions of a thousand times over. He seemed rather bored in fact considering that no one would of moved them and they all had the proper labels in case they did. He'd turn his head when she claimed to be done. The spirit user trotted over to where she had placed it.
"Thank you... Ms...Ah. Himura? Hmm. Haven't seen that name before. My name is Kan. You can call me Uric, Mr. Kan or whatever floats your boat. I don't much care."
There were after all certain names that were more common, her first name was also one that he hadn't seen before either but that wasn't too much of a shocker. Considering he used to hang out with someone named Hunter who was best friends with a fish. The man shook his head to ease out the thought and took a seat, gesturing for her to bring the chair over.
"I'll cut straight to it then. Hours are pretty flexible, I'm here all the time and all you'd be doing is organizing the front while dealing with customers as they come in. Giving me more time to do well. This."
The man would gesture to the computer that was sitting in the back, practically in pieces. He was an engineer, mechanic, fixer sort of guy, not the sort of person that dealt with customers.
"You'll occasionally work with Gretal who will be a sort of quasi supervisor. When she's not here you have the run of the place. Third and fourth floor as well as the basement are purely off-limits. Second floor is storage. If you see a red button anywhere in the store that isn't the silent alarm under the desk here, don't push it either. I'm still fuffing about with the wiring in this place as I just bought it."
The man was counting on his fingers as he was explaining what the other would be doing here and he'd at the end point at the young woman. He seemed pretty relaxed still and wasn't really getting worked up like a lot of managers.
"Most of my questions that I would of asked have been answered by the application itself. Oh. Yeah. Right. Uh. Starting wage."
The man would scratch at his head, trying to think of a wage that he could start this young woman on. He didn't really think too hard as he just picked a flat number and went with it.
"Tell you what. I know how it is when you're young and saving can be a bitch in this community. So I'll start you off at 2000 yen an hour and we can go from there if you need more. If you need more though I'll have to start teaching you more things about how things work around here outside of that area itself. Kapiche?"

Well if she weren't tech savvy before, it looked like she was going to be getting better acquainted with all kinds of hardware- at least while working here. "Right Mr. Kan." The formality probably wouldn't stick for too long as she grew to be more comfortable being around here. Though for now it was all about the manners and maintaining a professional appearance.
And of course she would bring her chair over, sitting and listening carefully to what Kan was saying. They felt a bit paranoid after hearing about random red buttons around the shop they weren't meant to hit. If nothing else it would just motivate her to listen and not touch the darn things. The last thing she wanted was to be responsible for the whole building exploding, especially not with her inside it.
When she heard how much she would be making she just about fell out of her seat. She hadn't heard wrong, had she? "That's... Quite a lot. More than I would be making anywhere else at my age." Arakan would think she were dreaming if they didn't know any better. Still though, what kind of nonsense luck was that to be making more than double what she would be by working at some cash register somewhere?
The spirit user nodded her head, maybe a touch too eagerly. "Kapiche! Though uh.. When would I be starting? I can work pretty much anytime." Of course she intentionally wasn't going to mention school. It wasn't going to make her independent from her current household any faster and.. she wasn't all that great at making friends.

Kan shifted in his chair, looking a touch usnure for a moment at being called 'Mr'. He really hoped that that would fall off at some point, after all he wasn't a Mr. Just Kan would do for him. The man shrugged his shoulders and leaned back mulling over everything he had shared with the young woman.
He hoped gretal would get her suit fixed soon so she could interact with the now hire-e here. As it'd be difficult for the weregarurumon to do anything with them if they were a eight foot tall beast woman thing. So far Arakan seemed to get the jist of everything he was saying but... Then came the comment that it was quite a lot. The man furrowed his brow and bit the inside of his cheek.
"More cause there's also stuff you'll be dealin with that may be dangerous. Never know when something might blow up in your face. We'll get your insurance and stuff sorted out when you've worked here for at least two months."
He'd hold up his arms, pulling down a sleeve to show the swath of burn scars that ran along the entire appendage. He had been in his fair share of fires... Not to mention fights that gave him that very nasty scar on his face. He'd grit his teeth and consider for a moment.
"Actually a month would probably be enough... I don't want to take any chances."
Then came the age old question of when she would be starting. Kan paused and considered the question. Reasonably she could start as early as tomorrow but... He did have some business he needed to take care of today. Business with men in suits and shiny briefcases. He'd bite the inside of his cheek again and hum softly.
"You could start right now if you want; I've got some time sheets in the back. How long you willing to work for? Four hours? Six hours? Eight?"
Then there was a pause and he'd consider again, the shop would be closed for at least three hours if she picked the last one which she could use to familiarize herself with the shop. Explore around and what not and he was very willing to pay for that.
"Also until we have deposits set up, I'll be paying you at the end of each working day; and if I'm not here Gretal will be to do so. And if you want to keep it that way that's fine too. Saves me the hassle."
The man paused as something in his pocket started buzzing and he'd hold up a finger. Digging out a phone to check a message or two, but unknown to the man another item fell out of his pocket. Bouncing off of the floor a few times and sliding directly into the line of sight of his new hire.
A pure white D-1.

The way Kan talked made it sound like something exploding in her face wasn't very unlikely. Still seemed like one would have to be not paying attention for that to happen though, so she didn't worry about it too much. Thinking about it, she could guess Kan was just worried due to her age and lack of experience working in a shop like this.
"A month sounds good. Er.. I'll probably need parental consent for that kind of thing, I imagine." Arakan could probably get her dad to do it, under the nose of her step-mom of course. It wouldn't be the first time she did something like that and all it took was the right tone of voice and making her dad think she had nothing but good intentions.
"Depends on the day. I can work as long as you need on weekends, though I should probably cut it a little shorter on school days." Arakan personally wouldn't have minded dropping school entirely in favor of just working, though she knew what kind of hot water that choice could land her in so she had to be a little more responsible. And not to mention sneaky.
She shrugged at the last bit. How she was paid didn't really matter to her, so long as she got paid to begin with. The chances of either of her parents getting into her bank account were a lot smaller if she just.. Didn't have one to begin with! "Either's fine."
Arakan felt pretty at ease after all that, though it might not have shown. Looking for a job on foot and keeping up with her other obligations was really taking it out of her when put on top of her home situation, though now that she had finally gotten something- and something that pays well, she could relax just a bit for once.
At least all the way up until that D-1 hit the floor, causing the teenager's eyes to widen in a way she didn't previously think possible. She could feel Plotmon start to freak out, which is exactly what she was trying not to do herself. "You uh.. You dropped something." Arakan pointed out, obviously a bit shaken by the sight of the object. Though whether or not she would say why remained to be seen.
On the one hand, finding more people who knew about Digimon was sort of a godsend. On the other, should she really be getting closer associated with the Digital World? She had already settled on not abandoning the real world for it, and that her efforts should be focused where she came from. Though at times she wondered if that had been the right decision. Plotmon certainly wasn't happy about it, but hey, it was her body. Little guy would just have to deal and take what she had already promised 'em.

Kan shifted in his seat; he didn't want to scare the only person to apply away from this place but he had to be honest with them. The spirit user knew that some people would be skittish around injury but... With the promise of insurance and the level of pay? Well the youth seemed okay with it at least.
"You'd be correct. It'll need to be signed or whatever. I can print something off for you to take home then."
The man shifted back in his seat; the object creaking lightly as the leather seemed to be well worn. In comparison to the rest of the place it was most certainly the oldest thing here. He'd rub his chin thoughtfully as the other told him about her working schedule options.
"Hmm. School nights... 5-9 sound all right? We could extend our hours a lil bit to make it so people can stop by after work. On weekends I'd pretty much be wanting you the whole 'working' day. Paid lunch breaks and breaks if you work that long. Don't worry though, if you need to have a more solid hourly bit we can work it out."
The man nodded his head and turned to his computer, though once she spoke again telling him that he dropped something he'd glance between the D-1 and then her. The reaction lined up with what he'd expect a newbie to have when seeing a digivice. There was a bit of hesitation in his movements but he'd snatch it off of the floor.
"Pretty sure I was wearing it around my neck a little bit ago... Tch."
The fact that she was shaken, or at least sounded shaken meant that she knew. She knew what these were or at least had an understanding. He'd grit his teeth and pin the bridge of his nose as he thought about what to say.
"In that vein. If you need advice or the sort about stuff related to... Well these devices and things that come from them just ask. I've been dealing with these things for twelve years. And my Ex-wife is one so she can give you a bit of advice too."
The man shook his head a bit and then wagged his finger at the youth. He didn't seem too bothered by the fact that she probably knew.
"Just if you have one as a partner or something don't let them into the fridge unless you ask first. Lord knows I've had to re-supply more than enough times when 'rookies' came around."
He was being purposefully vague for some reason, was it because they could have a customer come in? Or something more sinister? Regardless there was a small clicking sound as he put it back on his necklace.
"And don't bring politics from there here. It... never goes well."

Twelve years? The idea that this whole spirit user thing had been spreading to seemingly random people over the course of more than a decade shook Arakan even more. Where initially she thought that she and Charles might've been among the first if not the very first was proven completely wrong, if Kan were telling the truth. Not she doubted him or had any kind of reason to, it just made things feel even more fantasy-like. It just couldn't be real.
That really wasn't what she was here for though. So in an attempt to regain her composure she shook her head and took a good deep breath. Today wasn't a "Digital World day", today was supposed to be for the real world. Still though, it was really nice to have another responsible adult she could go to ask questions of. This whole Digimon thing might be a lot rougher without 'em. "4-9 could work. I can come straight here from school and either change somewhere on the way or when I'm here, depending. And I can definitely work entire weekends." It'd let her skip a stop at home and that'd be pretty optimal.
"Thanks boss, I appreciate the offer. I'll try not to let the digital stuff interfere with work if I can really help it." She did wonder for just how long she could keep the two worlds separate, and if such a thing would even be worth it. There were just a lot of things she would have to figure out that she couldn't just wing it out on. Made things just a little more stressful, though she could still handle much worse.
"...They have politics?!" Okay, that question she really couldn't help. The idea of a bunch of colorful little video game monsters talking about things like free healthcare and how stupid another politician is was just hilarious. Literally a political cartoon.

Kan knew that a lot of the younger generation couldn't wrap their heads around stuff like this; at least not right away. The sheer idea that he had been doing this when she was likely in gradeschool probably reflected poorly on this society... He gritted his teeth as he could remember quite a few kids that had been partnered or spirits. Barely old enough to write cursive or learn how money worked in some cases. But thankfully arakan had the presence of mind to continue on with the information that he needed.
He'd hum softly and pull a sheet of paper from his printer, spinning it about to write down the upcoming schedule. It was a simple fare, he even put her on today if she wanted to and would pass the sheet to her. There was a good list of days on there and he'd stare at her for a moment before speaking; A pen being placed on the sheet of paper as he went on...
"Circle the days you want. If you circle today we'd be starting pretty much right away. Just some simple stuff to get you into the groove."
The man crossed his arms, rubbing at his chin. He knew how it was, if things did get crossed he'd have to keep things moving. He'd have to help. He'd point at his device with a thumb and consider for a moment once more.
"If you need advice on stuff, partner or otherwise just ask me off shift and I can help you. I've had multiple partners both spirit and not. It can be very overwhelming at first and lord knows that I could of used it when starting out."
Kan turned his head; he had helped out a lot of different people on way or the other. He never bothered trying to keep them separate, only dealing with the things as they came. Preparing for the worst while moving forward like it was the best. Then her question made him chuckle; another piece of paper coming out on the table. Small circles in each place with their leading letter being which was which. With Tenborus being directly under Terminus he just labeled it with two T's.
"So here we have terminus. Then there's luminas. Whitewater. Rustport and new cities have been cropping up. Like Rosewood, Tenborus and some place out in the Dark area. They have communities and beliefs just like we do. And like anything with humans it's rife with politics and such. It's easy to find where you fall when you go there. Some cities are better for humans though. That and digi-racism. It's kinda wierd. Virus' don't like vaccines, vaccines don't like virus'. Data don't too much care and well... the others are so minor they're rare to run into."
He'd shift again and tap at the counter with a finger, rolling his thoughts through his head as he tried to consider what exactly else to say.
"If digital world stuff does cross into the work place we'll handle it when it comes up. I don't expect it to but... Such is life."

Arakan took the schedule and a bit of time to read it over. She had her own pen, so there was no need for her to ask. She circled just about every day, leaving out friday evenings and saturday mornings specifically. That would be the appointed digital world time from then on, and hopefully that would appease her spirit. She knew time flowed differently there, differently enough that she was being very generous with the amount of time she would be giving herself to let Plotmon play and to discover more things about them. Hopefully she wasn't being too strict or accidentally wearing her schedule down to the wire and leaving no real time to herself. Not that goofing off in a digital playground wasn't fun, but she could imagine that her drawing skills were starting to become really rusty.
She did end up circling today as one she would be available for. It would keep her out of the house longer, hopefully long enough that she could go home and straight to bed without interception by that vile woman she had to call a stepmom. Once she handed the schedule back to him, she thought it would be an okay time to ask: "So.. They're called partners?" Arakan had a whole lot of questions, but that felt like a good place to start. The relationship between her and her spirit was.. a bit odd, to say the least. One notable difference from the norm was her spirit's lack of independence. She could barely consider the spirit her partner, though they were definitely bonded together in someway that made them literally inseparable.
"Yeah- I've been to Rosewood and Terminus at least once. That's the only way I know of to get back to our world from the digital one." Arakan nodded her head in understanding. She didn't much like the idea of picking a side, and the whole digital racism thing was just silly. Much like it's real world equivalent, but still. "I did notice that no one in those two cities I named didn't really bat an eye at me. I guess I should have taken that as a sign there were more humans stuck with spirits."
Some of those city names sounded weirdly familiar, though at this point she knew that was Plotmon's own memory and not her own. Rosewood and Terminus she had already been to though it was obvious her spirit had some association with those two places, so that left Luminas as the one to stand out. Maybe she would have to visit there and try to learn more, see if any more memories get dug up for her to work off of. A name would be nice for sure, instead of having to always use "Plotmon" to fill in.

Kan hummed a little bit and once the schedule was back in his possession he'd scan over what she had circled. It was pretty standard stuff and he'd eye her after a moment. He knew how it could be when it came to juggling the digital world and the real. He'd tap the schedule thoughtfully and consider what he was going to say next....
"If you need time to yourself or this proves to be too much we can talk about your hours and schedule. I know how hard it is to juggle both and trust me, even I have problems now. So don't be afraid to talk to me."
He'd turn to make a copy of the schedule, print it out in a more 'proper' fashion and hand it to Arakan before pinning up the one that he had 'drawn' out for her. He kept to how it was for a two week period that way that she would know when to come in and when not to...
"Well I suppose it depends on you relationship with your spirits or with your mon. For some people they're tools, some consider them lovers, others are... less than that. The people that go to the digital world are as varied as those that reside in it. Just find where you stand on the whole matter someday and you'll find friends rather quick. I wish I did that sooner than a few months ago hah."
The man chuckled and shook his head, he considered his spirits his friends. His family. He would given the chance fight for them and help them as he could. He'd rub at his neck as she spoke; so she had been to rosewood and terminus. Both were vastly different and rub at his chin.
"Stuck, partnered to, using, you'd be... I want to say around the twentieth or so that I've met and talked to? Seen on the other hand...?"
He'd shrug a bit and then clap his hands together before giving arakan a paper. It was basically a form that stated that she had a job lined up and that he needed parental consent before she could start working.
"Just get a parent to sign off on this or someone that can be considered your guardian and we can get you to work. Change into something you don't mind getting dirty in. If you can't find something I'll just have gretal cut you up a pair of coveralls. We can talk more about what you'll be doing on shift or more digital world stuff. Considering today is one of my more... 'lax' days it's good for a starter."
A rather deep but otherwise friendly voice chimed in from the staircase, a large wolf head leaning into view. A pair of equally as large claws coming out to give a small wave to the younger woman.
"Yeah, just bring some measurements or something if you don't have anything to wear. Or I'll have to take some. Nice to meetcha Arakan."
A big toothy grin and then the last thing arakan would see was gretal's tail as she turned about. The large wolfen digimon was rather relaxed and she kept primarily to herself so... Next to no trouble from dats thankfully!
