Pickle took a seat with a sigh, perched on one of very few free spots on a bench as she watched the swarms of people move by. It was getting close to evening, school was out for the day, her parents weren't home, and she felt no need to rush for something to eat. Instead she elected to pull from her pocket the strange device she had stumbled across only a short while ago. Quite literally stumbled in fact, her foot had caught on the object and she'd nearly faceplanted onto the pavement only a short way from the shopping centre. Ordinarily she would have immediately gone searching for whoever may have dropped it but something told her that whatever this was, it was hers. It felt like it fit her grip perfectly.
Now to Pickle, all it looked like was a strange gaming device, the small screen and buttons embedded in clear-ish plastic reminding her of old school handheld gaming. She began pressing buttons experimentally, and after about 2 minutes of that causing nothing to happen, she sighed again before tucking it away and pulling out her change purse. If nothing else, she could decorate it before figuring out how to charge it or turn it on somehow. Moving over to a nearby bank of gachapon, she began pulling a charm or two from every machine that held one. Once she had collected a fair amount, she sat back down on her miraculously still free bench seat to get to work.
Charms were looped onto every available spot, their fingers deft and precise from frequent practice, the collection of charms and keychains dangling from their bag a testament to how much of Pickle's time and money they put into gathering any and all things dangling and cute. It took hardly any time at all before roughly a dozen of their new charms had been attached to their strange new acquisition. Once that part of the process was done, they pulled out a roll of stickers and began meticulously inspecting the semi-transparent casing of the odd handheld game, placing stickers from time to time with the concentration of a chess grand master. Clearly there was a bigger picture, a vision they was trying to bring to life.
Should anyone pass by, they would clearly see them frowning in deep concentration at the object in their hands as the crowds passed by almost entirely unnoticed.

It was a quiet day for Desmond and his partner Demi, the DemiMeramon. The Digimon was in his holosuit of a youngster with a large pair of glasses in front of an also large pair of blue eyes while his tamer was just looking at his cellphone while walking one in front of the other. The blond tamer wasn't really the kind of guy to go shopping but Demi really wanted to find more bowties to add to his collection so the Frenchman agreed to take him to the mall. The little Digimon in disguise was moving his head in all directions admiring all the pretty colors of the many clothing stores. Desmond would put his cellphone away to make sure that Demi was not trying to hug everyone in the mall as he did once the previous week. The Digimon stopped in front of a young lady in a green dress and he just stopped moving just to look at her with his mouth slightly open. "Woah!"
The lady also stopped moving upon hearing the kid that was now pointing at her. "Desmond, Desmond!" He said as he turned his head the other way to look at his tamer. "Demi, don't point at people." He quickly said while making his way toward the lady as well. "Sorry, he gets excited easily." He apologized. "But she is very pretty!" The kind lady laughed a bit and waved them goodbye as she went back into walking. Demi would turn around and wave goodbye for a very long moment even when she wasn't looking at him anymore. The Frenchman sighed before crouching down next to his partner. "Demi, pointing at people is rude." He said in a fatherly tone. "Even if they are pretty, you do not need to point at them." Demi quickly nodded a few times before smiling. "But she was very pretty!"
Desmond sighed again and stood up. "Yes, she was." And upon hearing that, Demi went back to walking and looking at everywhere but in front of him. The blond tamer sighed again but also smiled. He knew that the Digimon didn't mean to be rude, he was just not used to seeing that many people around him. Taking a quick look at his cellphone to check what time it was, the blond man would quickly start moving so that Demi wouldn't be too far away just in case he gets into trouble.
After a bit of walking, the Digimon in disguise stopped moving completely. Desmond made his way to him and saw that Demi was now pointing at someone again. "Demi, I told you that..." The DemiMeramon did not let him finish his sentence as he started moving his finger in a circle. "She has a Digivice!" That word made Desmond turn his head swiftly and squinted to try to see if that girl had a Digivice on her. And from where they were, it kind of looked like one. "Can we go say hi?" Demi asked with puppy eyes. "Please, please, please?"
"That might be rude, she looks busy..." Desmond answered still being not so sure that it was indeed a Digivice seeing that these things come in all kinds of shapes and colors. "Can we go say hi?" Demi repeated his question while inching closer to the taller human. "Fine, but be nice okay?" And with that, Demi dashed toward the girl and would only stop until being very close to her hands to look at what he thought was a Digivice. "Ooooh!" He then lifted his head up to see if she was now looking at him being all excited. "Hai there! I'm Demi! I'm a Digimon!"

A lot has changed since the last time Ravenna had been to this mall. For starters, her favorite anime merch store had closed down, leaving only the hollow empty shell of the space where it used to be. Ravenna couldn't help but feel sad seeing the vacant room, the empty racks hanging on the wall a reminder of the cuddly toys once there that brought joy to many. Fortunately, there were still plenty of places where Ravenna could spend her hard earned money.
Strolling down the walkway, Ravenna keeps up a decent pace. Her violet hair peaks out from under a black beanie. It wasn't what she was used to wearing, but it has been particularly cold lately, and it didn't take much effort to style in the morning. She is wearing a black jacket unzipped with a grey shirt underneath, black and white basketball shorts with black stockings, and studded leather boots that are exceptionally shiny. Her makeup matches her outfit, too much black eyeliner and black fingernails. At least it is Halloween season.
Ravenna's attitude has changed a lot since she first received her D-Tector. A crow had stolen her cell phone one day, only to return with the strange device. The former track star has fallen on hard times, struggling to pass her classes. She had hoped that a trip to the mall would cheer her up, but her sorrow would not be abandoned so easily.
How do you cure depression on a cold fall day? Coffee. While on her way towards a coffee stand, Ravenna notices a young girl clearly focused on something. Raye couldn't help but take a closer look. She appears to be putting stickers on something, something that looks all too familiar.
(Thinking) "That actually looks a lot like, no..."
Ravenna couldn't help but suspect that this girl has a D-Tector. Unlike hers, it is part transparent and a lot more glittery, but there was no mistaking that recognizable shape. Raye tries to ignore it and continue on, but if it was in fact such a device, it wasn't wise to have it out in public. She had to be sure. Ravenna stops walking and pauses for a moment, before awkwardly pivoting and turning back around to face the girl. She takes a few steps closer, and upon closer inspection, it does appear to be a D-tector. Ravenna speaks up to get the girl's attention.
"Excuse me, miss, but what is that you are holding?"

Pickle had made good progress in customizing the strange device, the entire back already coated in meticulously placed stickers arranged to lead the eye in a sort of zigzag pattern. They were just thinking that they really should have stopped by home to change out of their uniform when they found themself being interrupted by not one, not two, but three people coming up to them. The first, a pair comprised of a little kid and someone who was maybe his older brother? Either that or someone who had become a parent very young. As the kid ran up and introduced himself, Pickle found themself confused as he introduced himself as something called...
"A Digimon? What's that?" She turned to the older man in hopes of getting some clarification, only for the third person to walk up and speak to her. The first thing Pickle noticed was the fact that whoever this girl was, she was distressingly pretty. Then she processed the words that the older girl had said and held up the object in her hand. "Uhm, honestly I don't know? I just kinda found it and it felt like it was for me?"
A thought struck, that they might have been wrong after all. "Oh gosh is it actually yours? I'm so sorry I don't know what I was thinking! Here, you can have it back, I'll pull everything off it right now!" They directed their attention back down to the item in question and began to tug at the charms they had looped onto it.
"Oh hey, that's right. Uhm, Demi was it? I'm Pickle, I like your glasses! What's a Digimon? Is that like a game thing?" The corner of her mouth tilted upwards a bit as she spoke, a confused tic she can't seem to shake as her eyes flicked back up towards the older man, then to the pretty girl, and finally down to the kid again.

Desmond tried his best to get to the girl without looking like he was, in fact, chasing after his partner. There were still plenty of people around and he did not like having too much attention to them. As he got closer, Demi stopped smiling and tilted his head on one side. He stayed silent for a moment before pointing at her D-Tector. It was then that the blond tamer managed to put a hand on the kid's small shoulder and gently pull him a few inches away. "Sorry, he's..." He swiftly began speaking but then stopped when he saw that it indeed looked like some kind of Digivice. Not like one of his shapes and sizes but he definitively saw this one before. However, he wasn't so sure about what real difference they had besides the shape.
"She doesn't know what a Digimon is?" Demi then asked his tamer with a confused look. "But she has a..." And another person came to them prompting the two to look. It seemed that this lady too noticed that Digivice. As they all looked like they never met each other before, there was a bit of awkward silence. "Uh..." Desmond would look at the younger-looking girl and Demi would do the same before realizing something. "Oh! She doesn't know!" He said out loud making the Frenchman facepalm. "Demi, stop shouting." He tried to sound like he was in control. "Please, Demi, calm down." He said while looking around to make sure that no one was looking at them. He would wait for a second before feeling Demi poking his leg and whisper. "But she has a Digivice..."
"I know she has one." He whispered back. He then turned his attention to her and began speaking in a calm voice. "No, it is definitively yours..." But then he looked at the lady in black and went to scratch his head. "Unless it is yours?" That also could be a possibility. In any case, that meant that at least one of them is linked to this device. The one standing did look like she has seen it before just by looking at calm she looked compared to Pickle.
"Hi, Pickle!" Demi then placed himself between his tamer and the girl named Pickle before opened his arms wide open. "Can I have a hug?" He asked with a broad smile. In his book, everyone that likes his glasses must be a good person thus, a hug was the only proper way of introduction. "This is Desmond! He is not a Digimon!" The blond tamer sighed again but just let his partner give the hug he wanted to give before trying to understand the situation.
"What you have here is a Digivice." He started explaining slowly. "And if you just found it, then it is indeed yours. Unless it means that it is hers but that you just happen to have found it..." He then stopped knowing that he basically explained nothing at all. Instead, he sighed and took out his own Digivice which was not a D-Tector like the one Pickle had decorated. "This is also a Digivice." He said as he presented it. "In most case, in by that, I mean in like every one of them, people doesn't just find them randomly. It kind of chooses you..." And he knew that he was back to saying things that might sound more than stupid. "You know what, let's start over."
"Hi, Pickle. I'm Desmond, Desmond Edmund." He said after clearing his voice. "This is Demi, he's my..." He was going to say little brother but now that Demi said that he was a Digimon, that wouldn't make any sense. "Partner." After a bit of silence, the human turned his attention to the other girl. "And you are?" He slowly asked hoping that she would say her name before he could finish his question.

While the girl was alone on the bench when Ravenna walked by, when she turned around, a young man with a child was talking to the girl. Raye awkwardly interrupted before feeling embarrassed. This girl Pickle has apparently come across the device, and didn't understand what it could do. Has Ravenna encountered a new spirit user? She thinks back to when she first discovered the truth about Digimon, and how Kiyoko mentored her and was there to explain things. Did Ravenna find herself in that role now? She smiles at Pickle and bows.
"Nice to meet you, Pickle. Uh, no, that isn't mine or anything!" Fortunately, it became clear that the blonde man is a Digimon Tamer.
(Thinking) "That's a relief! I don't have to explain to Pickle on my own." The man introduced himself as Desmond, and says that the child Demi is his partner. Ravenna understood what he was referring to, but it still sounded funny.
"Hey, Desmond. My name is Ravenna. I noticed that device and knew something was going on." Ravenna places her hands above her knees and leans down, looking at Demi. "You sure have a lot of pep! So cute! But you really shouldn't be flinging the "D" word around like that." Ravenna stands up straight again and looks at Desmond. "It appears you have your hands full." *giggles*
Desmond explains to Pickle about digivices. He takes out his model, one for Tamers. Ravenna looks around to check if there's anyone walking nearby, but the coast is clear. She reaches into her jacket pocket and reveals a purple and black D-Tector.
"This is a D-tector, like the one you have. It's what Spirit Users have that allows them to become Digimon. There's Tamers, and a whole Digital World, and it's a lot to take in, so please, bare with us. We. Are not. Crazy people. Long story short, monsters are real, kid. And your body is going to be put through hell."
Maybe Ravenna should have sugarcoated it. It was a lot to try explaining to a complete stranger. Having two Digi wise humans there had to help. Ravenna can't imagine a girl as young as Pickle becoming a Spirit User. There were all kinds of horrible monsters and dangers that await people who receive a Digivice. It isn't an easy life. Ravenna looks down at her D-tector and traces her finger down the edge.
(Thinking) "Are they a gift, or a curse?"
Ravenna puts the device away and adjusts her collar. Thinking about a new Digi-destined made Ravenna feel anxious. She doesn't know Pickle well, so who is she to judge if Pickle would make a good Spirit User or not? Though, there were not too many digivices tricked out with stickers on the scene. Ravenna feels obligated to help Pickle out. Not to mention that the duo of Desmond and Devi seem interesting. What tales of past adventures could they tell?
"Us meeting here like this, it could be fate, or maybe just really good fortune. I don't expect you to understand the scale of all this, Pickle, but it is very important. There is much to learn."

So apparently it really did belong to them. Well that was a relief, at least. Unfortunately whatever this man was saying aside from that really wasn't making a lot of sense to Pickle, as evidenced by her blank stare as she fished around in her mind to try and figure out if she was forgetting something that might cause his words to make sense. His kid sure was cute though. As Desmond and Ravenna introduced themselves to each other, Pickle found herself quickly occupied by Demi. Not that that was a bad thing of course.
"You can absolutely have a hug!" Pickle grinned and reached down to pull the kiddo in, giving him a tight squeeze and resting her chin on his head before turning him around and continuing to hug him while he faces the others so they can both contribute to the conversation. What could she say? Little kids were adorable and huggable and she didn't get to hug anyone often enough in her books. "So you're a Digimon and he isn't? Now I'm even more lost, what are Digimon? I have no idea what you're saying."
And then Ravenna leaned down an told Demi not to say exactly the word Pickle had just said not once but twice. "Oh. Uhm. Sorry. Won't say it again."
Starting over. Right, They could do that! one hundred percent they could do that! Time for manners and politeness and all that! They let go of Demi and stood, placing one hand over their heart. "My name is Piscesius Aluraun Heath, but that's a really long and irritating mouthful so you can just call me Pickle. Or whatever other nickname you think of really. It's great to meet you all! I'm not sure what you mean by Demi being your partner, but I guess I'll find out eventually."
Proper introductions finally out of the way, they turned their full attention to studying the.... Digivices? Digivices that the older two had produced for her to look at. Desmond's clearly was not like hers, but they looked similar enough to both be called Digivices of some kind. Ravenna's looked almost exactly like theirs aside from the colours which was very interesting.
The concept of their body going through hell didn't really phase Pickle overly much, they'd already figured that would happen one way or another if they wanted to be serious about giving their all to help people. Monsters being real though, that was new and potentially terrifying and awesome at the same time. Both of those bits of information were blown away however by what Ravenna said these devices could let people do. Pickle moved without even thinking as soon as they processed her words.
"Hold up." Pickle leaned perhaps a bit too into Ravenna's space as she grabbed the older girl by the arms. One could swear they could see literal sparkling stars in her eyes as she stared up at her with a huge, gleeful smile. "Are you saying this thing will let me do magical girl transformations into monsters? Are you saying this is some sentai herosuit thing? Can I be a superhero and help people with this?"

Demi was very happy that Pickle took him her arms and give him a big hug. The little kid giggled a bit when she turned him around so that he could be part of the conversation. He would bob his head for side to side with a huge smile on his face. Seeing his partner being so joyful made Desmond smile as well. As Ravenna told them her name and told Demi to not say Digimon too much, the blond tamer nodded and began looking around them as well. So far, no one seemed to be paying attention to them so it was perfect that way. "Nice to meet you, Ravenna." The Frenchman would say before looking at her Digivice which was very similar to the one Pickle had decorated.
Upon hearing Pickle's full name, Demi looked up at her and tried to say it. "Pi..." By then he already forgot the rest of her name. His mouth dropped a bit while trying to remember at least the first part of her name but he just couldn't and began feeling bad about it. Desmond would notice that because it happened in the past that Demi would have tried to remember names without much success. "It's okay, Demi." He simply said. The Digimon looked down feeling sad for a second or two before lifting his head up suddenly. Demi reached out to his tamer. "Desmond! Show her what's behind your Digivice!"
The blond tamer would flip his Digivice around revealing a small drawn sun with a smile on it. The Digimon waited for Desmond to give him the little device and he began pointing at the sun. "This is me!" He said without knowing that it wouldn't make much sense to her. After hearing what Ravenna had to say about monsters being real and all that, he couldn't help but feel that maybe they shouldn't be that direct. Sure, with the lady in black and himself having a Digivice, it did mean that they should be telling her that Digimon are real and all that but Pickle did told them that she just found it so maybe they should give her some time to learn.
Both Desmond and Demi carefully listened to the Spirit User while nodding here and there. Demi was a bit confused about the term Spirit Users but he saw his tamer was nodding so he felt that he should be doing the same. And then, Pickle grabbed Ravenna and asked her if she could become a magical girl. The Frenchman was about to say something but decided to just let her have what looks like a great sense of excitement. He would stay silent for a bit longer before taking his Digivice back and putting it in his pocket. "We might want to talk about it somewhere else..." He then proposed. While they weren't really anyone that was looking at them, he felt that they should at least all be around a table rather than standing.
"Let's go get something to eat, shall we?" Upon hearing the word "eat," Demi open opened and he jumped to hug his tamer's leg. "Yes! Please!" There was a very large food court and tables around to sit so Desmond just pointed at a random one and wait for any of them to answer if they wanted to sit down and continue their talk. It would just be more comfortable. "Desmond!" The little kid said out loud while tugging his pants. "Can I have ice cream?" He asked with sparkles in his eyes. The Frenchman nodded and gave a gentle pat on the Digimon's head. "Yes, you can. But you need to stop shouting, okay?" Demi nodded rapidly and went toward Pickle and grab her hand. "Do you want Ice cream too?" He asked very quickly.
"How about you, Ravenna?" Desmond then asked as he turned his attention to her. "Hungry?"

Ravenna smiles as she watches Pickle and Demi hug. This kuwaii moment brightened Ravenna's dark day. Pickle reveals her full name, but it really is a mouthful. "Pisces-us??? I guess that explains why you're called Pickle. It's kind of a charming name."
Demi tells the Frenchman to show her behind his digivice. The child points to a drawing of a sun with a smile on it, and says it is him. A digivice with stickers, and one with a cool logo? "That looks nice. You two are making me jealous now. My digivice isn't that unique."
Then something caught Ravenna off guard. Pickle leans in close to Ravenna and grabs onto her arms. The girl asks Raye if the digivice will make her a magical girl, or like a sentai herosuit. Ravenna nervously looks down at Pickle, who gazes up with such hope in her eyes. "Um, when you put it that way, I guess so. Now that you mention it, that means I'm a magical girl. Great."
(Thinking) "Looks like this is going to be easier than I thought. She's into that sort of thing. Maybe she will make a great hero."
Ravenna did not expect Pickle's enthusiasm. Since she moved for college, the former track athlete hasn't been around youngsters much. Did this new friendship put her into the role of a big sister? Ravenna didn't know how to act like a positive influence. She was going to have to learn. Desmond mentions they should talk about it elsewhere, and suggests getting something to eat. Demi is excited to get some ice cream. The blonde man asks Ravenna if she is hungry.
"Yes, I'd love to get something to eat. There's a lot of great- BWAHRK!" Ravenna covers her mouth with her hand in embarrassment. She had just cawed like a bird in front of them. "I'm sorry! It just happens, sometimes."
There were some downsides to using the power of Digimon spirits. Ravenna wonders what Pickle would look like as a Digimon. Hopefully, Pickle would not have to wear as much leather as Ravenna when transformed. There are plenty of nice places to eat at the mall. The smells of different food fills the food court like a fog. "So many choices. Should I get sushi, or teriyaki? Maybe some ice cream for dessert. What sounds good?"

They pull back from Ravenna with a dramatic huff. "Pisces-eee-us. It's a family name I think? I prefer nicknames though because they're much more fun." She reached down to ruffle Demi's hair, grinning at him. Her default expression seeming to be a big goofy grin at this point. "I still don't quite get what you mean by partners and stuff but that's a very good drawing, incredibly cute. You can always decorate your digivice as well Ravenna. Here!" She quickly pulls a small, light blue star charm off of her bag and passes it to the older girl. "You can start with this! It should go well with the colours on yours."
"But back to the magical girl thingy..." Their attention whipped back around to Ravenna, Pickle seeming to nearly be vibrating in place with glee. "That is so cool. You're like an awesome ally of justice!" They quickly strike a silly, heroic pose like what you'd see in a cartoon. "Fighting bad guys with you're rad super powers, defending the weak and innocent! Magical girl Ravenna!" They then turn to Desmond and Demi again, gesturing between the two. "I assume that because you have something similar you can also do something like that, so you're probably really cool too. The amazing, heroic duo Desmond and Demi!" They strike another pose for a second before relaxing with a giggle.
As Demi grabs her hand, Pickle takes a moment to think. "I love ice cream! Cinnamon is my favourite, it tastes almost like a cinnabun. You know I hadn't really noticed until you said that Des, can I call you that? If not that's cool. I'm starving." Swinging her arm with Demi's hand in hers, she leads the way to a free table that has enough of a buffer around it to provide a bit of privacy for whatever secrets were about to be spilled. "Before we talk and you guys tell me what's going on and why I have this thing now, I'm definitely getting some udon if I can find it. I need something filling and warm. Ice cream for dessert sounds wonderful though so I have to make sure I save room for that..." Pickle takes a seat at the table. "I'll hold the spot if you guys want to get your food and stuff first?" She digs out her purse and starts going through it, figuring out a budget for tonight's supper. "I gotta figure this out anyway. Don't wanna blow the bank, you know?"

When Pickle took a heroic pose, Demi quickly went next to her and do the same pose. "Desmond! Come!" He said joyfully with a very broad smile. Desmond sighed and then shook his head. They seemed to have become good friends already which was good. "Desmond!" The Digimon said his name once more while still trying to look all heroic. The blond tamer sighed once more. He would wait for another second before slowly making his way toward them and then mimic the two with less enthusiasm though. He wasn't smiling for sure but Demi certainly was. "Ravenna! You should come too!" He said with sparkles in his bright blue eyes. With them striking that superhero pose made few people look at them while laughing.
But that didn't bother Demi at all. Desmond, on the other hand, would go back to a normal position and wait for them to do the same. The blond tamer liked that Pickle was very, very enthusiastic about being a magical girl. It wasn't exactly that in the Digital World, but he didn't want to break her bubble right away. Besides, she looked quite young compared to him. Ravenna also looked younger than him but Pickle was certainly the youngest unless we include Demi. He would let them have fun for now. They were safe in this world so they can just mess around and not worry about going to the Digital World. However, they would have to tell Pickle that the world where Demi came from was much more dangerous than this one. But now, they should find something to eat.
As they all agreed on getting some food, Demi would follow Pickle and hop on the chair next to hers. "I will wait with Pickle!" He said while looking at Desmond. "What kind of ice cream you want?" He asked him knowing that he would most likely tell him to put as much chocolate he could. "Chocolate!" The older man then heard that the young girl was trying to see how much she could spend here. "Don't worry, I'll pay for you." He kindly said. "One more meal won't ruin me." He then paused and smiled. "So you said udon noodles?" He asked to be sure.
After hearing if Pickle would accept his proposition, Desmond would go get Ice cream first. He had to look around but eventually, find a place. "I'll take erm, that in a big bowl. And with extra chocolate. and erm, four spoons too" He said before paying. "Thank you." the Frenchman would then go back to the table and set the bowl in front of Demi who looked at it like it was the greatest thing he ever saw. "Now, don't eat too fast. And share with Pickle and Ravenna, okay?" The Digimon in disguise looked at Pickle and then Desmond. "Thank you!" He said maybe a bit too loud.
"I'll go get you udon noodles. Want anything to drink?" He then asked while scanning around to see if Ravenna was around. He wanted to ask her a few questions. He would slowly go get Pickle's meal and then go back to the table, sit down and then stood up again. "Forgot to buy something for me. I'll be back."
Desmond would then go toward Ravenna either she would be ordering sushi or teriyaki. "Hey, Ravenna." He softly said a she got closer. "Doesn't she look too young to be an erm... Digidestined?" He wasn't sure if that was the right term, he just heard it once and that was pretty much the only word he had in mind. "I mean, I don't know how we get chosen by those Digivices, but I don't want her to feel like she has to go the do Digital World..."

Ravenna was feeling left out of the fun when it came to Digivices. Pickle corrects Ravenna's pronunciation of her name, and gives her a light blue star charm for her Digivice. Ravenna smiles warmly and accepts Pickle's gift. "It looks cute. How nice, thank you, Pickle."
Ravenna attaches the charm to her D-tector. Pickle was right about the color. The light blue pops off of the much darker purple and black. Pickle surely is an enthusiastic girl. She talks about how cool the three of them are, and strikes a pose. Demi joins in, and coaxes Desmond to reluctantly join in. Then the child asks Ravenna to join them. Ravenna blushes and looks surprised.
"Oh. Well, I guess I can." Ravenna nervously strike a pose similar to Pickle, looking at the wall to avoid making eye contact with anyone. The group then goes to the table picked out. Pickle starts counting up her funds, but Desmond offers to pay for her meal. Ravenna has plenty of spending money saved up for this trip to the mall, so she doesn't have to worry about ordering more than usual.
"I can chip in, too. I hope you are not just going to eat ice cream, Pickle." They had only just met, and already Ravenna is giving out dietary advice. Desmond gets a big bowl of ice cream for them to share. Then Desmond calls Ravenna over to get sodas, where they have a chance to talk about Pickle receiving a Digivice in private. Desmond asks Raye if Pickle looks too young to be chosen. He doesn't want her to feel like she has to go to the Digital World.
"Well, she seems happy to start. I just don't want her getting into trouble. It can be dangerous, and if she's so eager to fight, maybe she will bite off more than she can chew." Ravenna carefully looks down at her D-tector without revealing it, looking at the charm Pickle gave her. "She's much younger than me when I got my device, Desmond. Not just young in age. I think she acts younger than some girls her age."
Ravenna smiles at Desmond. "Still, with us to help her, she's off to a good start." Ravenna picks up her teriyaki and they return with drinks. She also orders a small tray of cinnabuns. "You put cinnabuns in my head, Pickle. I hope I have room to enjoy all this food."

Pickle's attention rapidly diverted from her counting at Desmond's offer, her smile once again spreading wide across her face. "Really? Thank you! And I'm not just gonna eat ice cream, I know better than that. You need to eat healthy to be healthy after all." This was right, she thought, people helping people was always right. As Desmond and Ravenna walked away to get the food, Pickle turned to face Demi. "So Demi, what do you and Desmond usually do? He doesn't look like he's from around here, what's his job? I'm curious about what you do too, since I assume you can't be with him all the time." Shortly after, Desmond returned with a heaping bowl of ice cream that made Pickle's eyes go wide. "Thank you!" And when he stepped away she again turned to look at Demi. "Oh my god, that's a lot. I hope we can eat all of it. Do you think we can Demi?"
They picked away at the veritable mound of ice cream with Demi as they waited, staring around the food court to watch people go about their early evening plans. "Hey Demi, do you think... Hmmm. Do you think I'll be good at whatever it is that people like me do? Why do you think I found this?" They pulled her D-tector out and flashed it under the table before tucking it away, mindful of Ravenna's caution over showing it off in public. "Because I'm totally in the dark about all of this. All I know is that it led me to meeting you guys, which is awesome you're all very nice, and that apparently there's danger involved." They stick a spoonful of ice cream into their mouth as they lean forward, elbows on the table as they watch Desmond making his way back with a bowl in hand. "It's kinda weird, is all."
Desmond dropped off the udon bowl to a resounding "Thank you very much!" As he walked away Pickle immediately scooped up her chopsticks with a much quieter "Thank you very much for the meal." before getting to the business of chowing down. They idly watched Ravenna and Desmond as they walked around through the courtyard between mouthfuls, grinning a little at they see Ravenna coming back with cinnabuns.
"If you don't have the room for it all, I'm sure the rest of us can help out! I've got lots of room since I didn't have a big lunch." She chewed her way through a couple more mouthfuls of food before sitting back and looking over the others, waiting for them to finish with their current bites of food before speaking up.
"So I've got a lot of questions, but I think we should start off with you guys telling me a bit about what Digimon are and what me having a Digivice means. That'll probably answer a lot of them anyway." She was still smiling, but it was much smaller than any of the others that they would have seen so far, and the look of concentration that she'd had before while decorating her D-tector was back, her focus on the three of them unwavering as she prepared to listen. "Clearly I have a lot to learn."

Demi would wait for Pickle to have food in front of her before taking a spoonful of ice cream. Food was always something interesting for the Digimon. He likes everything sugary but is willing to try pretty much everything that Desmond gives him. The blond tamer doesn't cook often enough though, he much prefers ordering food and buying instant meals. He does try to vary things and keep a healthy balance of food, more or less. But healthy wasn't a concern for the DemiMeramon. Looking at the girl next to him with a spoon in his mouth, Demi tilted his head on one side upon hearing her question.
To be honest, he wasn't entirely sure what they usually do in the Digital World. He just looked at her without saying anything for a second. "Oh!" He then said out loud with ice cream still in his mouth. "We follow his Digivice!" Well, that was part of it. "His Digivice sometimes does that beeping noise and Desmond says that there's an arrow on it and we just follow it around." The Digivice was a strange device. The duo never knows where it led them but it often ends up meeting another tamer or spirit user. Demi never questioned why they keep following it though. He just goes along Desmond because he is pretty much like his big brother.
"He's from Pearish..." He hesitated upon saying that. "Maybe Pooris?" The word he was looking for was Paris actually. "He's from far away!" He knew that for sure. "He fixed things! People come and leave him stuff and he fixed them!" He wasn't a hundred percent sure of how he does that but it is Desmond's job to repair small devices and stuff. "He sometimes uses a thing that makes metals stick to each other!" That was his way to say that his tamer was a welder. "He is very good at it too!" And he paused to take another spoonful of the very tasty dessert. "I stay at home when he is fixing stuff! We live just above his shop!" Desmond was lucky to have his own home and shop upon coming to Japan. It was one of his father's friend that sold it for him a few years ago now. Demi doesn't know how much it cost as Desmond never mentioned it. In fact, the Digimon still isn't sure on how money works.
And then, she asked him if she would be a good spirit user and Demi tilted his head on one side once more. He had no real clue on what it was considered to be good at being well, a Digimon but also a human in his world. He looked down at her Digivice and giggled a bit. He really liked all the stickers she put on it. "I don't know!" He then answered a bit too loud. "You should come with us and see!" The child did enjoy going back to his world every now and then. While looking like a human is fun, being in his true form was also fun. A bit more dangerous maybe but he wasn't aware of that as Desmond never told him that it was more dangerous there than in his world.
Desmond would come back only a few seconds later with a plate of sushi in hand. Demi was too busy eating by now to pay attention to Ravenna and his tamer comming back. "Don't eat it all by yourself, Demi." The human would say as he sat down. He listened to Pickle asking them what are Digimon. "Digimon are... Beings from the Digital world..." He knew that he was very vague. "They can be of all sort of form. Some of them are like animals. Some of them sentient objects. Demi isn't actually in his real form. He looks like a small fireball with a face on it." He looked at his partner who nodded upon hearing that. "It's me on his Digivice!"
"It's hard to explain, really." The Frenchman wished that he had pictures of the various Digimon but alas, he did not. "Also, we are not alone. There are many other humans that have those devices and the ability to go to the Digital World." He paused to take a piece of sushi and chew for a bit. "The only real common thing would be that we are all from Shibuya. Why? I have no idea." He said after swallowing. "How about you, Ravenna? Have you seen anything particular about us?" By us, he meant the DigiDestined. "Also, Ravenna and I never met before." He wanted to clarify that in case Pickle thought that they all knew each other.
"I guess that the best way would be to get you to the Digital World..." He didn't want to have her be there right away but it was pretty much the best way for her to understand what Digimon are. Turning his head to look at the girl in black and then Demi to see if they would react to him saying that, Desmond stayed silent for a short moment. "What do you think, Ravenna?"

Pickle and Demi chow down on ice cream while the young adults order more food. Ravenna returns with Desmond and looks at all the food on the table. "I don't know if we can finish it all, but I'm looking forward to trying."
Good thing Pickle isn't just eating ice cream. Ravenna didn't know that Desmond would rather order food than cook, but she is in the same boat. Less cooking at home meant less cleaning. Ravenna picks up her spoon and scoops some ice cream, making sure to get chocolate syrup. She raises the spoon to her mouth and takes a bite, savoring the cold treat. "Mmm, that is so good. Hello, calories."
Ravenna didn't mind eating from the same bowl if the others didn't. She just had to make sure to get some before Demi ate it all. One by one, Ravenna tries some of the food. She picks up a cinnabun and her fingers sink right into the doughy goodie, before she tears off a piece of that frosting-coated goodness with her teeth. After wiping the frosting off her fingers, she then starts eating at a faster pace. While she tried to remain polite in public, her table manners were lacking since she became a Spirit User. Birds are not known for being tidy eaters.
While they are eating, Pickle asks them questions about Digimon. Desmond does a good job covering the descriptions of different types of Digimon, and how the only people who receive Digivices all come from Shibuya. Also, not all Tamers know each other.
"That's true. It's kind of anonymous. The only way to tell who has a Digivice is by meeting them in person in the city or the Digital World. It isn't always this easy to recognize a Tamer. Desmond and I got lucky with you, Pickle. If it wasn't for you, we would have probably continued on our ways without ever realizing. I couldn't tell Demi is a Digimon while his holosuit is active."
Desmond asks Ravenna if she notices anything particular about the ones chosen. "Not really. We all live in Shibuya, mostly teenagers, or not far from it. At least, I haven't met any middle aged Tamers." Ravenna pauses to think. Her eyes appear to be more focused.
"Other than that, it seems random. I do not know who is delivering these Digivices, or how they chose who becomes a Digi-destined, or whatever humans in the know are called. There's Tamers who raise a Digimon or twin Digimon, Spirit Users like us that take the form of them, and I know there's another, but I haven't met one yet. Wild Digimon have been known to cross over into our world on their own."
It is amazing Ravenna can talk so much while shoveling food into her mouth. Hopefully she's swallowing before she speaks. What's also amazing is that Ravenna ate all of her teriyaki, a cinnabun, and lots of ice cream all in one sitting. Usually, she only eats this much after a battle. Raye takes a sip from her drink, leaving only a little left. Desmond suggests that the best way for Pickle to learn is to go to the Digital World, and asks Ravenna what she thinks.
"Well, I guess that's what people do when they get a Digivice. The Digital World can be a very dangerous place." Ravenna sits there in a moment of silence, resting her wrists on the table. Her arms noticeably tighten up and her hands are balled into fists. Finally, Ravenna relaxes, and her expression changes from serious to delightful.
"Not every place is dangerous. Why don't we all go together sometime? This meal is delicious. Does anyone still have some shopping to do? I'm free for the rest of the day. Might go out dancing tonight, but if you are down, I'm totally ready to start Pickle's training."
The young woman is noticeably more peppy than before. It's easy to see that something is bothering her. Ravenna is just dead focused on helping Pickle become a successful Spirit User. She aims to prepare her for the dangers that await, while shielding her from greater threats until she is ready. Maybe the crow girl is worrying over nothing. Pickle has three new friends to help.
