[Part 1/3]
The blizzard was almost unbearable to walk through at this point, even with the large coat Takahiro acquired back in Snowflake village. The snowstorm was so dense that he couldn’t see anything more than a meter away from him. In fact, the only things he could see were the snow-covered ground beneath his feet and his digimon partner Ryu, who was walking right beside him with his head close to the ground to avoid getting snow and ice swept in his eyes all the time. Takahiro smirked, this wasn’t the first time one of his reckless ideas had turned out horribly wrong.
“We’ve been walking for hours, and all I’ve seen is snow, snow and more snow. I don’t even know if we are still walking in the right direction,” Ryu suddenly said, sounding quite agitated. His human partner turned his head towards him and asked for an explanation: “What do you mean?" Ryu shook his head, disappointed that he had to explain something simple to his normally quite intelligent tamer. "Ever heard of going off-course? These frigid winds alone could have diverted our path, there’s even a chance we’re headed back to the village,” he answered in the same agitated tone as earlier.
Takahiro let himself fall to his knees into the snow, not wanting to move any further. He could feel the snowflakes melting on his coat and dripping through onto his skin. “So you’re saying we’re lost? Why didn’t you say so when we still had a chance of returning to the village? You know full well that we can’t survive out here for very long…” Ryu was shocked by his partner’s words. “What’s wrong with you? We should find a place we can use for shelter sooner or later no matter in which direction we go. Please just get up and continue walking! ” The dragon digimon had seen Takahiro easily give up before, but never in a situation that could mean the difference between life or death. Was the cold getting the better of his human partner or was there something else going on?
Takahiro looked at Ryu again, having to use his hands to shelter his eyes from the snow. “What’s the use? My legs are tired and I can’t go on much further. The best thing that could happen is…” He stopped mid-sentence. “Is what?” Ryu inquired before his tamer put one of his hands over the digimon’s mouth. “Be quiet, are you seeing what I’m seeing?” Takahiro pointed towards something in the distance, something that wasn't suppoed to be there, Ryu looked closely, barely making out a mysterious silhouette in the snowstorm. “Curious, I’m not sensing anything. The snowstorm must be interfering with my sense of smell. We should probably talk to whoever that is though, maybe they know which way to go.”
It didn’t take long at all for Takahiro to stand up again, much to Ryu’s surprise. His tamer was quite an odd person, quite prone to sudden mood changes. However, he decided to take advantage of the situation and started running in the direction of the mysterious silhouette they saw earlier, confident that his human partner wouldn’t be too far behind him. He caught a glimpse of the silhouette again, much closer this time. The digimon looked behind him, wanting to say something to Takahiro, but his tamer was nowhere to be found. When Ryu turned back around to continue his pursuit, there was another digimon standing right in front of him. Before he could ask who this stranger was, the new arrival hit Ryu on the head with a log, knocking the Ryudamon unconscious.
“Ryu, where the hell are you?” Takahiro shouted, hoping to locate Ryu. He was already lost in the middle of the tundra with a snowstorm going on, and he didn't know if he could take being separated from his loyal companion as well. He started moving in the direction Ryu had run off to moments ago. Just as he wanted to just sit down and give up his search, the rough shape of a silhouette appeared at the edge of his vision range again. There was something odd about it though; it seemed different than the one he had seen before before, as if it was carrying something that it wasn't carrying before...
Takahiro ran as fast as he could, trying to catch up with the mysterious digimon that he could only see as a silhouette in the thick blizzard. His efforts were in vain though, as the silhouette had disappeared again by the time Takahiro lifted his head up to take another look. Still, he decided to keep walking in what he believed to be the direction his partner had run off to. What would make his digimon run away from him? Ryu was usually very serious about the dangers of traveling and would never knowingly leave his tamer behind. Sure, the two of them had their fair share of arguments in the past, but the Ryudamon had always been loyal to Takahiro no matter what.
Just as Takahiro was about to start shouting his partner’s name again, he heard an odd beeping noise. He took his D-Terminal out of his back pocket, which happened to be the device making the noise. Its screen showed a grid and a red dot not far from the center. He turned around, only to have the red dot change position on the screen. “So if that dot isn’t me, who or what is it?” he said to himself as he started to walk in the direction of the red dot. Having trudged through the snow for minutes, he started doubting his current course of action; at least until a flickering light in the distance interrupted his thought process. Takahiro was standing in a slightly hilly area, the light was coming from what appeared to be a cave leading inside one of the hills. The blizzard made it difficult to see clearly though, so he decided to go in for a closer look.
