Getting Back to Work [AEGIS]

"Well since you put it like that, then we'll fit in this band of misfits perfectly." Justice responded, putting his hands over his head. When first coming here, he thought that everyone here would be super serious since this is an agency that deals in the affairs of human-digimon. But seeing how everyone hear were chilled, even a little goofy to put it, he had nothing to worry about. He probably didn't even had to go above and beyond with the dress clothing him, Vee and Gummy were wearing since Colin and Johan were wearing their causal clothing; he'll remember that next time.
Gummy looked to Dokamon as they were walking, narrowing his brows in a frown as he clarified it wasn't his intentions to embarrass him. He sighed, he had no reason to be mad at him...not yet anyway. "It's whatever, dude." Gummy said. "Just try not to state the damn obvious next time. You're like a robot." Already he had someone to watch out for, as this Digimon was difficult to get a read on. He couldn't tell anything past his poker face.
Vee on the other hand gave an exciting gasp when Psych read his mind. "Wow, you're amazing!" he chirped. "And don't worry, I had chicken and waffles for breakfast. Miso-flavored ramen is my favorite food, so I was thinking of making some for my brother and Justice when we get back home."
Coming into the office room, the trio watched when Stacy tripped and nearly faceplanted into the floor trying to race with Speed, making Justice and Vee winced while Gummy giggled. It would only be a few minutes until they heard the front entrance chimed. Justice got up from his seat and stood up at attention; an elderly Japanese woman entered-- Colin and Sophie's grandmother, Emiko.
Justice darted his eyes to the floor when the elder greeted Colin and Sophie, not wanting to see the pleasantries. It made him feel a little bit angsty just watching other families get along so well. After the others introduced themselves to the chief financier, he glanced up to Emiko, realizing that it was their turn.
"How you doing, ma'am? My name is Justice Tibbs. These are my Digimon partners Vee and Gummy, and this is pretty much our first day on the job."
"Hey there!"
"Sup."

Sophie was grateful to those that helped tidy up things around the ground level. Indeed, she was fascinated by Psych's telekinetic powers in how they could help with tasks like this.
All flinched a little at Stacy's fall, but she recovered from it fairly well, it seemed. Once it was done, Emiko entered, and she regarded all others present.
First she would look at Johan. He introduced himself, and said that he was 16 years old - a year younger than Colin. And also it seemed he had quite the team under him - his partner Dokamon, and two strong looking mercenaries named Speed and Psych. She trembled a little at first as she heard Psych's telepathy first-hand, but didn't mind.
"That's alright, thank you for warning me." she said in reply. "I've heard that you're quite nifty with computers, Johan, so, glad to have you with us. And your partner and mercenaries seem like they'll be quite useful for AEGIS's capabilities."
Emiko then turned to Stacy. What she said gathered her interest. "Is that so? You're only a few years younger than my son Nathan - that's the father of these two." she indicated Sophie and Colin, who blushed. "Nonetheless, it's good to have a spirit wielder in AEGIS, from as much as I know about them anyway."
Then she turned to Justice and his partners, and her smile didn't cease. "Ah, another twin tamer, like my grandson. And your first day on the job? Well, from the report I read of your exploits in the Terminus City central station, glad to have you on board."
With introductions settled, Emiko would proceed the meeting. She moved toward the head of the conference table, but as she did so, several catering staff also entered, making sure that a tray of cookies was within reach of everyone by the time she was seated.
"I think, now with AEGIS properly staffed and stabilized, we should discuss our current situation as it is with the conflict with DATS." she said, looking serious. "Sophie my dear, could you please brief us all up to speed?"
"Yes of course, grandma." Sophie replied, and would prepare the computer linked to the projector that would be the visualization of what she was saying. "So far with the agreement between AEGIS and DATS after the Battle of Scramble Crossing on new year's day, 2019, we have agreed to not interfere with any DATS operation involving digimon. Furthermore, we have conceded any enforcement operations against digimon if they would impede that of a DATS agent's investigation. Therefore, pretty much, we have been limited in our operations to simply assist new tamers and their partners as they appear, as well as neutralize low level digimon threats."
Emiko gave a nod for her to continue, pleased with what she heard so far.
"On paper this would have seriously crippled us in terms of our objective. After all, DATS have legally muscled in on our jurisdiction. However, the fact that there are so many new tamers and so many new digimon showing up in Shibuya, that shows that we still have purpose here. And, that purpose is damage reduction."
"Correct, Sophie." Emiko said to her granddaughter. "And thank you very much for that briefing. Admittedly I have been questioned to quite an annoying degree as to why I continue to fund AEGIS so lavishly, but, as Sophie has described, even though DATS may be running the town legally, I'm still relying on you all to operate behind the scenes."
Emiko dramatically drew a small paper fan from her kimono and wafted it gently under her chin. "I need you all to operate as follows: your first objective - defend the peace. If you cannot achieve an objective without violence, abandon it. I will not have Tokyo reduced to a digimon battlefield. If violence is inevitable, I will be very disappointed to see any of you remaining at the scene to have the blame placed upon you - and it will be placed on you if that's the case."
Sophie and Colin exchanged worried expressions here. It seemed that their grandmother was expecting something of an escalation of the current crisis.
"Second, stay away from DATS. I don't want any of you tangled up with them. If they show up on the battlefield, leave at once. However, if you can find it within yourselves to cooperate with them, do so, but make sure that they take full responsibility for whatever happens." Emiko continued. "And thirdly, keep our operations out of the digital world unless it directly threatens us. The old DATS fell apart because they interfered too deeply with the digital world. I will not have that same fate fall on AEGIS. Now then, are there any questions, agents?"
With that said, Emiko looked around at the others for reactions or queries.

Johan cringed when Stacy fell face first onto the floor. Dokamon and Psych did not show anything of the sort, but that doesn't mean they didn't feel the hurt of the fall. Perhaps you shouldn't have run like that, Psych said to her. Nonetheless, are you alright? You are not hurt too badly, are you?
At least Gummy didn't seem to have any bad feelings towards Dokamon. He simply told the blue cyborg Digimon to not state the obvious all the time, calling Dokamon a robot. "A robot... that is how both Johan and Speed have described me in the past. I have looked into the a human's definition of the term, and I have concluded that every Digimon could potentially be a robot."
Psych blushed slightly when Vee had called his ability amazing. It is certainly helpful in certain situations. But there are limits and downsides to what I can do.
When Emiko arrived, she spoke to Johan directly, saying she heard that he was good with computers. "That's right, ma'am. Anything technological is my specialty, so I will be glad to help out in any way I can in those fields."
After Emiko had spoken with the agents, Sophie recalled the state of the AEGIS and DATS conflict. Basically DATS' jurisdiction could have left AEGIS crippled, but with so many new Tamers and Digimon showing up, that shows that AEGIS still has a place. Emiko reinforced that she wanted AEGIS to keep the peace, and to abandon an objective if it cannot be solved without violence, which made sense. "So no fighting at all, huh? I can live with that, as long as I can keep running."
As long as you don't run right into trouble, Speed.
Next, she made a demand that AEGIS members were to stay away from DATS, to leave the area as soon as they arrive. Seemed simple enough. The third and final request was to keep AEGIS business out of the Digital World, since that was how the original DATS fell in the first place. "Understood." No further questions would be asked from any of them.

In response to Psyche's telepathic question she said "I'm fine. I was never very graceful even as a child."
When Emiko mentioned her being a few years younger than the father of her grandchildren she said "Shame I never had any kids of my own."
Stacy listened intently to everything Sophie and Emiko said about DATS before she said "Don't worry I don't go out of my way to find trouble. I outgrew that bad habit years ago. As for digimon running rampant in Tokyo, at least I may be fast enough as a digimon to lure aggressive ones out of the city to avoid unnecessary damage and lives lost. Though I would rather try the diplomatic approach first when it comes to digimon. As for avoiding DATS, judging by what you said about them, I can agree with avoiding them if possible."
When asked if there were questions she said "I understand everything. No questions from me."

With introductions done, Justice took a seat at one of the chairs around the conference table, with Vee and Gummy standing up on the seats since they weren't big enough to see over the table. When the catering staff came in with a tray of cookies, the twins happily took some for themselves and began eating.
Sophie then began to bring them up to speed, explaining that DATS and AEGIS conform into an agreement after a skirmish last year, an agreement that prevents the agency to not operate within DATS's jurisdiction. This resulted in AEGIS being severely restricted in terms of operations to helping out new tamers and damage reduction. Emiko insisted that all agents' objective was to maintain peace and to avoid objectives that would resort to violence and to stay away from DATS entirely.
When Emiko asked if their were any questions, Justice found it surprising that the others had little to say about all of that, agreeing with all of the requirements. Unlike them, he had more to say on the matter.
"So basically, if any aggressive Digimon were to suddenly show up in the city, just leave it to DATS unless it's too much for them to handle?" Justice asked, resting his arms on the table. "So say in a hypothetical scenario, a Digimon that doesn't want to be reasoned with is about to wreck havoc and DATS is too late to respond. Do you want us to just delay their advances until any agents from DATS shows up, then book it? No mean to disrespect, ma'am, but if lives are stake, both here and in the Digital World, we gotta do something regardless if violence were to happen. We can't just sit back and do nothing."
Vee and Gummy gave an exchange of looks, knowing where this is going.
"I went into their headquarters since my Digimon and I were apart of the Golden Week incident, even confronted the leader of DATS himself. Frankly, it just sickens me that a man like him is bent on trying to segregate Digimon from our world and make it seem like a good thing. And this is not to say any of the agents working for him is bad, but it just makes you wonder why they work for a person like that." Justice paused, looking at his D-Watch for a moment. "But overall, I understand your reasoning to not get too involve, even if it doesn't sit well with me just yet."

Emiko gave a half-smile at Johan's reply. "That's wonderful. Sadly I was raised in a time before such things were about, this ubiquitous computer technology, but I've come to the conclusion that it's better to rely on young ones that have had a proper enrichment in these sorts of things."
After Emiko made her briefing, she first turned to Speed. "Correct. You can dash about Tokyo as much as you want in order to gather information, but I will not allow you to clash against the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, the Japanses Self-Defense Force, or DATS. If that situation happens, your orders are to escape as quickly as possible. But, if the event occurs that you are arrested and captured, then be as docile as possible, while doing your best to avoid answering questions. I would like to make it clear - any AEGIS agent that gets arrested, just do your best to hold out, and I'll do my best to help you. Don't incriminate yourself, don't bring on additional charges, and I'll do my best for you. However, I'm not above the law, so if you do actually commit crimes, I can't help you."
Sophie and Colin somewhat stiffened at hearing this, knowing that they were this dodgy with the already strict laws of living in Tokyo... while Emiko was mostly speaking to the others, she side-glanced them in a way that told them that they were not exempt from this.
Emiko then turned to Stacy. "Do what you can, just keep trouble to a minimum. As I said, I won't be able to protect you if DATS mark you down as a troublesome entity and decide it would be better if you weren't here."
Following that, the James family's attention turned to Justice for his questions. And they were particularly good ones. Emiko smiled in response.
"Absolutely. The first objective of AEGIS is to save lives. If you see a life in danger, protect it. I'm prepared to launch the mother of all legal firebombs against DATS if they try and shut us down over protecting lives, and they know it, so that is well within your perogative." she said.
With that said, she calmed down somewhat to explain the intricacies of the agreement. "However, if you simply see wild digimon doing nonviolent things, I'm afraid that that's where our agreement would end. Our orders for that are to simply report such sightings to DATS. It's for the greater good. While I don't agree with it, better to let them shoulder the responsibility of their own failure than us."
Emiko then listened as Justice elaborated further that he had been taken into DATS HQ after the events of Golden Week. And she knew exactly who he was talking about in his further rant.
"Hrm. Director Suzuki. Yes, I'm familiar with that bastard." Emiko said, frowning. "I'm very sorry to hear that you have met him long enough to know what he's like. However, that's a major reason why I'm urging caution here. He has the power to shut down AEGIS if we interfere too soon... however, if we act in ways that diminish his power over us in this situation... that's our way to ultimate victory over him."
"...Grandma, are you making this personal?" Sophie asked, hesitantly.
"I am." Emiko replied, a look of steely determination on her face. "I want AEGIS to win... to knock that bastard down and watch him look up in defeat. But to do so, we'll have to play carefully. For our first move, I think we should try to pry their current active agents from their allegiance. I've been hearing interesting things about them from various sources. These three agents - Tiger, Machine and Maria. They're DATS's main workhorses. Get on their good side, that may be our path to victory here."
Whew, that was a lot to take in here. Neither Colin, Sophie or their partners had much to add here. Emiko looked to the rest of the group to see if they had any other questions here.

"I imagine it was quite a shock for you to discover Digimon then, Emiko," Johan commented."I'm the only one in my family who's properly into technology, so for my family to first meet my partner... it did not go well." For his partner's sake, he left out the part about Dokamon being afraid of forks due to that incident.
Of course Speed and Psych both knew fairly well about the robotic Digimon's amusing fear.
Emiko then turned towards Speed and told him that he could run as much as he want as long as he didn't get in trouble with the various government forces such as the police, the Self-Defense Force, and of course DATS, and to be docile and avoid answering questions if he did get caught. Speed did understand the severity of everything Emiko was saying, but he just placed his hands behind his back and acted in his usual attitude. "Doin' crimes isn't my style, and I'd love to see something catch ME, but I fully understand what you're saying."
The only person that spoke out when Emiko explained the agents' objective was the newcomer, Justice. He didn't want to stand back and let DATS do everything when he feels like they could help prevent human casualties, which Emiko did actually agree with. He even claimed that he confronted the director of DATS himself, and according to Justice he was not a good person.
"I can understand protecting humans from evil Digimon," Johan said in response, "but segregation? That isn't going to help anyone."
"There are also the Digimon that do not intend to do humans any harm that wish to visit this world. Upsetting them would just provide even more reason for the segregation."
Here's where things get interesting. Emiko actually seemed to know the DATS director, and because of him she wants to take this whole thing personally. She suggested making the current DATS agents trust in AEGIS more for the time being, especially the three main ones: Tiger, Machine and Maria. Hm... so you're saying if they trust us more than DATS, they'd be more willing in our mission against DATS.
"That may work... I can ask some friends of mine if they know anything about any of the DATS agents, anything that could help us win their trust."

"Segregation of humans and digimon sounds makes him sound like he hasn't learned anything about the mistakes of the past either. When this happened with African Americans things got pretty ugly at times. If not for some peaceful protesting, a war may of started in America. Sounds like we are dealing with little more than a bigot with power and that is dangerous in its self." Stacy growled out. She then took a deep breathe before she said "I agree that we should try to get more trust from these agents but we should be cautious of DATS in general judging by what you say, Emiko."
She had never thought she would face something like racism but with digimon but she should of suspected it was a possibility. She had seen lots of it in her thirty eight years of life whether in person or on the news and the senselessness of the subject always upset her.

Justice was glad to hear that they could save people even in DATS's jurisdiction. He'll be dammed if he gets in trouble with them for operating in their territory if he had no choice. They have the same goal, which is to protect the peace, so it seems really stupid for them to get legally reprimanded by them...not that he'll let that happen anyway.
With Director Suzuki on the other hand, he became surprised that Emiko shared the same feelings he has with that douche. A smirk appeared on his face for a second before vanishing. He was glad that he wasn't alone on this. "So in order for the king to fall, we have to turn his own trusted allies against him...I like that. Though I'd preferred tossing him into a dumpster, stripped of everything except his underwear, but that works too."
Wanting to dodge the racism topic (since he's an African American), hearing the three main DATS agents, Justice knew who they could try and pry from their allegiance. "Well we could start with Maria," he suggested. "She's the only agent of DATS that we've met and she was rather nice, along with her twin Digimon, Sistermon Blanc and Sistermon Noir."
Vee nodded his head to vouch. "Heck, Gummy over here even challenged Noir to a friendly sparring match because of how impressive she was when we teamed up and faced a bad Digimon."
"To which I am still waiting on to this day." Gummy replied, crossing his arms and munching on another cookie with a frown on his face.
Justice continued. "If we could convince those three to join us, I'd reckoned it would be a serious blow to DATS. And yeah Mrs. Emiko, I'm taking this personal too since he made it personal. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to knock that crusty-looking, geriatric fuck down a peg, even if it means playing the long game."
Wit that said, Justice leaned back on his chair, not regretting his unprofessional tone. Sure you don't come to your first day on the job swearing, but just talking about that man was enough to make something within him click.

Emiko gave a small smile at Johan at his statement. "Indeed it was something of a shock. The first digimon I met was Lantis. Fortunately he's fairly pleasant on the eyes, so my shock turned to curiosity rather easily."
Lantis blushed a little and averted his gaze. It hadn't been helpful to learn that Emiko's husband Richard James, Sophie's grandfather had almost been as tall and muscular as him when Emiko had first met him. But thankfully they established a professional relationship rather quickly.
When Speed seemed to scoff about being caught, however, Lantis thought that was something that he'd rather like to attempt, but, held his tongue. That kind of talk could wait for later.
Emiko approved of the conversation that followed. What Stacy said was fair enough. Then Justice spoke. And Emiko felt the need to reply.
"While he does deserve that, we need to strip him of his power first." the elderly woman clarified. "Once we have achieved that - manage to make him resign in disgrace, you're free to do anything you like to him. That's a good suggestion by the way, if it comes to that, please record it so we can see too?"
"Yikes, Colin, your grandma really hates this guy doesn't she?" Bellamy whispered to his partner. Colin agreed, rather surprised to hear his normally elegant grandmother seemingly get so much glee at the thought of the downfall of Director Suzuki.
Emiko was glad to hear that Justice had already gained something of a rapport with Agent Maria and her partners. "Excellent. That's a foothold in which we can build upon. Continue to gain her trust, Justice, and that will help us out immensely."
Both Colin and Sophie flinched a little when Justice swore in front of Emiko. When they were growing up, that was established as a big mistake. However, Emiko would let it slide for now.
"Well then. With that established, I believe that's enough for this meeting for now." she said instead, standing up. "It has been wonderful meeting you all. Sophie my dear, I believe I would like to conduct my inspection now. Could you please accompany me?"
"Yes of course, grandmother." Sophie said, and would accompany the elderly lady from the room. "Everyone, this meeting is concluded." and with that, she and her grandma would walk about the headquarters to see how everything was going.
"Huh... that was... honestly kinda surprising." Luke remarked. "I didn't know she hated the DATS Director so much."
"Yeah... bet there's a story behind that." Bellamy added. "Anyway, is that all we gotta do today, Colin?"
"Nope, we've gotta get our new agents on the system." Colin said, turning to Justice and Stacy. "Actually, Johan, could you help us out here? You're better with the systems than I am."
With that, all they needed to do was to create accounts on the AEGIS private network for Justice, Vee, Gummy and Stacy. After that was settled, well, they were free to do what they wanted.
Colin thought rather a lot on his grandmother's words though. While he was glad that she had a plan against DATS, well, he hoped that her personal hatred of its director wouldn't hurt them in return.

Johan and Speed both smirked and chuckled a little bit when Emiko pointed out that meeting Lantis was less of a shock due to how pleasant he was to look at. Johan didn't think she was wrong at all of course, who wouldn't want to have the body stature of a Leomon? Of course he kept it professional and didn't make any additional comments about that.
Speed noticed Lantis blushing and looking away from Emiko. The Flamedramon variant scooted up to Lantis and nudged him a little with his elbow. "Can't take a compliment without going full-on crimson, can ya?" Speed would whisper, intending it as a friendly jab more than anything.
Back on the topic of Director Suzuki, Emiko mentioned that they'd need to strip him of his title and power before Justice could get his revenge on the guy. Emiko even requested that Justice would record whatever he decided to do to the guy. "We're agreed that you probably shouldn't kill him however, right?" Johan asked. "I mean, I don't doubt that you have restraint but anger and grief can make someone lose all common sense."
After all was said and done, the meeting was concluded, with Sophie accompanying Emiko for her inspection. Luke and Bellamy were discussing how surprising it was that Emiko disliked Suzuki that much. "Simply judging from reactions alone, whatever happened to Emiko must be similar to what Suzuki did to Justice. I can deduce that he is definitely not a good human and not fit to run an organization such as DATS."
Before heading off to add the new agents into the system, Colin asked for Johan to come and help him with that. "Yeah, I can help out. Come on, Dokamon." And with that, Johan and his Digimon companions had dispersed from the meeting area... with Speed not-so-subtly following Lantis to wherever he would go. There were definitely some sparks flying in between those two...

When Sophie mentioned that she thought Lantis was easy on the eyes Stacy looked at the Leomon and thought 'I see what she means by that. For a digimon, he is attractive.' The thirty eight year old's eyes widened in surprise at her thoughts as they continued 'Here we go again. Staring at the first attractive male and now my brain is trying to drift to improper places. Bad brain! Gotta behave yourself.'
Fortunately Stacy came back to reality shortly to learn how much Emiko disliked the head of DATS so she decided to keep an eye out just incase this guy became troublesome. Maybe working with everyone in AEGIS would prove interesting in the future considering the group seemed to be an interesting one. That and the humans and digimon alike seemed nice enough. Though she had a habit of being a lone wolf at times, she still enjoyed being around others.
When it appeared things were wrapping up and people were leaving, Stacy decided to make her exit as well.

Justice nodded to Emiko. Even though he was the newcomer, it seems he was already Emiko’s right-hand man when it comes to things involving DATS—more specifically, Director Suzuki. He was even caught off-guard when she gave him permission to record him when the time came to publicly humiliate him.
“Damn, you’re kind of hardcore, grandma,” Gummy commented. A sly grin appearing on his face “Heh, remind me to never cross you.”
That said, Johan’s comment, while relatively minor to anyone else struck a sensitive nerve with Justice. “No, of course not.” He clarified, “What do I look like to you, a killer? I just have a score to settle with that sonova bitch. Nothing more. I understand that you’re my superior and all, but don’t rationalize me as an unhinged maniac.”
He turned back to Emiko. “Regardless, I hear ya loud and clear, Granny Emiko. We’ll continue to keep gaining Agent Maria’s trust.”
With that, the meeting was adjourned, with Sophie departing with Emiko for the inspection that they mentioned earlier. Now all that was left to do was create accounts for the trio and Stacy into AEGIS’s system. After that, they were free to do whatever they wanted.
Justice, Vee, and Gummy followed Colin and Johan to get that done. Vee spotted Speed idly following Lantis. He could tell that the Flamedramon had a thing for Sophie’s partner, much like how Gummy is to Bezil. He couldn’t help but chuckle. “It’s our first day here and love’s already in the air~” he said.
“I blame Specs for calling that dude ‘Buff Simba.’” Gummy remarked, sticking his tongue out.”Yuk! Those two should learn to keep it in their pants.”
“Heh. Better take that advice the next time you see Bezil then.” Vee added in a teasing manner. Gummy opened and closed his mouth, trying to come up with a good comeback to no avail.
“Ooooh, ten points goes to Vee.” Justice said, giving Vee a high-five. Gummy crossed his arms, grumbling in response. So far, Justice liked everyone at AEGIS; they’re a colorful cast of people and digimon, so they know they would make a regular boring day at work an eventful one to say the least.
Heck, if things go well, he’ll probably recommend Palicae to join as well. They’ll probably make the dynamic couple.
