Why won't you share anything with me? (Solo)

It was around noon in the Digital World. It was a particularly warm day, especially in the area that Kaya and her partner Hawkeye had chosen to visit. The two of them were just relaxing after a nice training session, Kaya with her hand in the river and Hawkeye sitting against a big tree on top of a small hill in the forest. "This was a really good place to train, Hawkeye," Kaya told the bird Digimon.
"I am glad you agree," Hawkeye said with a content sigh. "You know, Kaya, this area of the Server Woods is very important to me."
"It is? In what way?! Come on, you gotta tell me!"
"I don't know..."
"Do it! Do it! Do it!" Kaya chanted in an attempt to get Hawkeye to spill the beans.
"My answer is no, Kaya. I should not have even brought it up."
Kaya sighed. "Why do you do this? You never tell me about before we met, whenever you're about to you back out of it, and you're always hiding stuff from me. Am I just untrustworthy? Is that it?"
"Kaya, please calm down."
"No, I won't calm down!" Kaya shouted as she got up onto her feet, glaring right at the bird. "I love you, Hawkeye, but I know nothing about you other than what anyone can clearly see. I WANT to know more! I share stuff with you all the time, why won't you share anything with me?!"
"Fresh meeeeeat..."
With a sudden new voice on the scene, Kaya and Hawkeye both jolt up, Kaya grabbing her Digivice and Hawkeye grabbing his bow. The two stand side by side, unsure where the voice came from. The two kept their guard up until suddenly...
"ROAST OF THE PIG!"
Both partners looked upwards to see a flaming humanoid Digimon about to fall right on top of them. In a moment of panic, Hawkeye pushed Kaya right out of the Digimon's way, thankfully keeping the both of them save from the sudden intrusion. Hawkeye pulled an arrow out of his quiver and aimed it at the Digimon, which looked like a human girl in a pig's outfit, wielding a giant hammer.
"ChoHakkaimon..." Hawkeye gasped. "An Ultimate level... even as Angemon this one would be hard to take down!"
"No use in not trying, at least," Kaya said. She attempted to trigger the DNA Charge, but due to her spat with Hawkeye earlier she was having a lot of trouble. "Uh oh..."
"What do you mean 'uh-oh'?"
"Fresh meat..." The ChoHakkaimon growled after getting up, looking at the partners with a look of crazy in her eyes. "So hungry... haven't eaten... you tasty looking!"
"Looks like we have a cannibal on our wings," Hawkeye said. "Kaya, I want you to stay back." The crazed ChoHakkaimon lifted her hammer, the crazy look in her eyes directed right towards Kaya.
"I think I'll start with YOU FIRST!" she screamed as she raised her hammer above her head and charged right at the human girl. Kaya whimpered in fear as her hand shook while she tried to extend the hardlight baton out of her digivice. ChoHakkaimon then began to swing her hammer right at the girl.
WHACK!
Kaya flinched, preparing for the impact. Strangely, she felt nothing. She opened her eyes to find Hawkeye laying right in front of her, unconscious, before he de-evolved back into a Poromon. He had jumped in front of the attack to protect her.
Hawkeye, no...!
Kaya looked up at the attacker with a look of both fear and anger, the ChoHakkaimon was loving every second of this. "I just LOVE playing with my meals first!" she cried as she raised her hammer once again. This time Kaya didn't do nothing. She grabbed Hawkeye and held him tight as she summoned a Digiport underneath her feet, allowing her to fall through right before she was to be squashed like a whack-a-mole. The Digiport had vanished before ChoHakkaimon even realized what was happening. "Whuh... ARGH! YOU CAN RUN, BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE FROM MEEEE!!!!" Back in Kaya's bedroom, a Digiport appeared on the floor, allowing Kaya and Hawkeye to launch out of it, landing right on the floor as it disappeared. It was not a graceful landing. "Augh, my head..." she groaned as she rubbed the side of her head. She would then crawl over to the unconscious Poromon. "Oh, please be okay..." she would whisper as she pet the little bird Digimon.
Just like that, Hawkeye began to open his eyes. He looked pretty drowsy, and not all quite awake yet. He groaned a little, his voice sounding more high pitched, like a six year old's.
"Shhhshhh... it's okay, Hawkeye, we're safe now, thanks to you."
"Thank you..." the Poromon said in a tired voice before fully opening his eyes and looking right at Kaya. "Just a couple questions... who are you? And who's Hawkeye?"
"Whuh...?"

Kaya simply blinked at the little Poromon. Surely he was joking, right? "Um, I'm sorry?"
"Hm? I must not be good at this... Hello! My name is Poromon! What's your name???" The in-training asked in a very energetic tone.
Kaya blinked even more. "Okay, this isn't funny anymore Hawkeye, you're starting to make me worry."
"Why do you keep calling me that, miss?"
"Because that's your name. Why else would I call you that?"
"What kinda Digimon name is that? It doesn't even end with "-mon", silly! My name is Poromon! Do you have a name?"
"Uh... yeah. It's Kaya. Kaya Matsui."
"Well, howdy! It's great to meet you Kayamon!"
Kayamon?
Kaya laughed. "No no no, not Kayamon. Just Kaya."
"JustKayamon! Is that your champion form? Ooohhh, I can't wait to be a big and strong champion!!!"
The human girl took a moment to step outside of the bedroom, sliding down against the door into a sitting position, her knees up to her chin. She was trying to comprehend just what the heck was happening. Did Hawkeye not remember who she was? Who HE even was? It was like he was deleted and sent back to the Village of Beginnings... but if Hawkeye was deleted, he'd be gone forever thanks to his corrupted data. And he definitely didn't explode into data after being hit by ChoHakkaimon's hammer. Does this mean that... that he had amnesia?
"KAYAMOOOON! My tummy's hungry!" Kaya heard Poromon say from the other side of the door, breaking her away from her own thoughts. She sighed and stood back up, opening the door for Poromon.
"Well, why don't we get you some food?"
"HURRAY! FOOD FOOD FOOD FOOD FOOOOOD!" Poromon sang as he hopped up and down. Kaya couldn't help but giggle slightly at this behavior. The Hawkeye she knew was more subtle when he was hungry. She picked up the Poromon and carried him gently down the stairs. Once she reached the kitchen, she would place him on top of the dining table.
"Dad's at work and Mom just went out grocery shopping, but there might be something in here," Kaya said as she rummaged through the pantry. "Let's see, we have potato chips... cupped ramen..."
"I don't care what it is, I just want it to taste good!"
"Wait a minute..." Kaya muttered. She closed the pantry and rushed to the fridge, hoping that there were some left in there. And to her delight, there was a nice, unopened package of strawberries. "Ah yes... try some of these, Poromon. I think you'll like them," she said as she placed the package on the counter and opened it up, taking a single strawberry out for Poromon.
The tiny bird looked curiously at the red fruit before nibbling at it. Then his eyes widened as he gobbled up the rest of the fruit in one bite. "Mm-mm-MMMM! So tasty! Can I have the rest of them pleeeeeease?"
"Mhm! I got them for you, after all," Kaya replied. Well, at least SOME things haven't changed... I knew he'd still love strawberries.
Then Poromon started gobbling up all the strawberries in the package, without much grace or dignity at all. Or maybe they DO change a lot, Kaya thought as she sweatdropped. Hawkeye never ate like this, and he's acting... happy! This isn't like him, I have to call someone... Not knowing what else to do, Kaya got out her phone and called up a friend...
"...Hello?"
"Adrian? Is that you?"
"Kaya! We haven't talked in like a month! How've you and Mari been?"
"Oh, we've been good, all good... hey listen, I have a problem and I don't exactly know what to do."
"Oh, go ahead and shoot. What's up?"
"Well, my friend... uh, he took a really bad hit to the head. Now he's acting completely different, he doesn't know who I am, and he doesn't even know his own name. What should I do?"
"Your friend was THAT hurt?! Kaya, this is serious, you gotta take him to the hospital!"
"...he's afraid of the hospital," Kaya lied. He couldn't just tell Adrian that her friend was a Digimon, could she?
"Ugh... well it sounds like your friend has amnesia. If they still refuse to go to the hospital, maybe take them to places they recognize? Have them talk to close friends and family? And if that doesn't work, DRAG them to the hospital if you have to."
"Hm... that might work! Thanks, Adri!"
"But Kaya, I still think you should take him to-" Kaya never got to hear the rest of that as she hung up on him. She put her phone in her pocket and faced Poromon, who had just finished the last of the strawberries.
"Oh Pooooromon, I have a special idea," she said with her hands behind her back, "you know what the Digital World is, right? Well why don't we go to a very special place in that world? Just you and me?"
"A special place?! Ooh, I wanna go to a special place! Yeahhhh!!"
"Well then what are we waiting for?" Kaya asked as she picked up her partner. She pulled out her Digivice and created a DigiPort in front of them, waiting to take them to the Server Woods.
I'm gonna help you get your memories back, Hawkeye... but I'm also going to find out what made you who I know you as.

A DigiPort opened up somewhere in the Server Woods, allowing Kaya to step out while holding her partner Poromon. She was determined to get his memories back after a rather serious hit to the head. But the way he was acting now... well, it was completely different than how he used to act. It made Kaya wonder if that was how he was in the past.
After arriving in the Digital World, Kaya set Hawkeye down on the ground before getting onto her knees. "This is the woods where we met. Do you remember anything?"
"Hmmm... I think I do, but I don't know if I really do or not... didn't we meet in your house though?"
Kaya laughed. "No silly, we met in your old village... speaking of, I wonder where it is..." Kaya got back up onto her feet and began to search around. When I first arrived, I arrived right in the village. I never had to make my own way back to it before... ugh, this would be so much easier with Hawkeye.
Kaya and Poromon searched and searched, with Kaya even beginning to lose hope of ever finding the village. Why is it so darn easy to get lost in this forest...? She thought bitterly as her feet were now starting to hurt from all the walking. Eventually she heard a faint sound of activity coming from the direction she was walking towards. She picked up the pace and finally, FINALLY, she had arrived at a village.
Yes, the very same village that she had found herself in when she first came to the Digital World... where she had first met Hawkeye...
"Well, Poromon, this is it; this is your home, the place where I met you. You told me you used to defend this village."
"I... used to defend something? Usually it's me who has to be defended."
"What are you talking about? I've seen you fight, you're a really competent fighter and archer, Hawkeye."
"What's an archer?"
That question was what made Kaya realize that she had to fix this, and fast. Responding by taking a deep breath and ignoring the question, the human began to step into the village. She was immediately spotted by the other villagers, who almost instantly went on the offensive. After the multiple robberies and deaths they had all endured, it's no wonder that they'd not care for outsiders. Kaya hugged Poromon close to her and started to back away before a voice boomed within the crowd:
"Wait! Stop! Do not hurt them, they are allies!"
The crowd stopped its fighting and rioting as they all seemed to look behind them, their eyes locking onto a Jijimon that was walking right up to the newcomers. He seemed to recognize both of them. "Ah, it has been a while since I've seen your faces here. I see you're back to your in-training form now, Hawkeye."
"Even you're calling me Hawkeye now?! I'm so confused..."
"Pardon?" Jijimon asked, completely stunned by the Poromon's behavior. "I could have sworn you were Hawkeye... is my vision failing me?"
"No, this is definitely Hawkeye, sir," Kaya confirmed. "We ran into a problem and now he just can't remember anything. Not only that, but this is definitely not the Digimon I got to know. Did he ever act like this back then?"
"I cannot say that he has," Jijimon admitted. "Although it is possible that this is who he was before he came to our village."
"You mean back at the Village of Beginnings?"
"Possibly, although he did not come straight here from the Village. When we found him, he was not in good condition, both physically and mentally."
"I'm sorry, what did you say?" Kaya asking, perking up at that statement. This was the first time she had ever heard of this. Was this something else Hawkeye hid from her?
"Did he not tell you? I suppose it must've been hard on him... he was discovered just outside the village in a very critical condition. We took him in, fed him and took care of his wounds, but after that he refused to explain what happened to him. He seemed to have no one to go back to, so I vowed that I would look after him as his adoptive father. His mental state got worse after the invasion, however."
"Invasion?!"
Jijimon nodded. "It is the reason we are not so welcoming to outsiders. A few days after Hawkeye was brought to the village, a large group of bandit Digimon arrived to steal our precious crops. Many of us were slain, sent back to the Village of Beginnings or just absorbed. Hawkeye changed after that, he digivolved into Hawkmon and began to train into the Hawkeye you first met. But this Hawkeye... he's far more energetic than I ever expected him to be."
Kaya did not know how to process this information. Why didn't Hawkeye tell her this?! Why didn't he tell her ANYTHING, about this horrible stuff that happened to him?! Did he not trust her? Was she untrustworthy? Or did he just not want to upset Kaya? Ugh, it was so much for a twelve year old to process... "Did he say anything at all when you first took him in?"
"He only repeated one word multiple times: Eizo."
Poromon's ears perked up at that name. "E-Eizo...?"
"Poromon! Does that bring up anything?"
Poromon smile grew for a second... before a frown completely took over, tears starting to run down his face. He growled and wrestled his way out of Kaya's arms, hopping away into the forest while crying.
"Poromon, wait!" Kaya yelled before the young Digimon disappeared into the woods. She said her thanks and goodbyes to the villagers before running off to chase after her partner.
Before Kaya realized it, she had found the little Poromon sitting by the river at that spot they were in earlier that day. The spot that Hawkeye had mentioned being a very special place to him. Was this place the key to getting his memories back?
Kaya quietly walked up to Poromon and sat down next to him with her legs crossed. She leaned forward to get a better look at his face, which was now covered in tears. "Do you remember this place, Hawkeye?"
"...yes. I do."
"Can you tell me who Eizo is?"
"..."
"Come on, you can't keep hiding this from me. I need you to be able to trust me."
"Heh... trust you? If I lay all my faith in someone, the world just takes them away from me. Just like Eizo."
"What happened to him? I promise that I'm not going to leave you. I could never do that. I even helped you Digivolve, something you thought would never be possible."
She did have a point. Poromon hesitated slightly, but he didn't exactly have a reason to keep her in the dark anymore. "Eizo was my first human partner. Although technically he wasn't chosen, he still found his way into the Digital World. Right in this very spot, in fact.
"Back in the Village of Beginnings, I was teased, bullied and beat up by the other Digimon because of my corrupted data, meaning at the time it was believed that I would never digivolve. I came to this spot to hide from them all when suddenly, Eizo arrived. A human male with blonde hair, a lot like yours, Kaya.
"We were naturally scared of each other at first, but as time went on we became close friends, best friends even. He would always be at this very spot when I came to hide from the other Digimon, and we would laugh and play and sing, and I could forget about the abuse I went through back at the village. He was the one who gave me my nickname, actually.
"We felt like we could share anything with each other. He shared with me that his home life was almost exactly like mine, only it was his sisters that would abuse him. It felt nice to know that my best friend knew what I was going through. Those were some of the best times of my life."
"And what made those times stop?"
Poromon paused. "One day, Eizo and I were playing in this very spot, before a Digimon showed up. It was a Mega level Digimon, a dragon man with red scales and golden armor. It hovered over us before taking one look at Eizo... and slamming him right into the tree." Kaya gasped after hearing that, putting her hands over her mouth. "I tried to protect him, stand in between Eizo and the Digimon, but I was easily kicked away. Eizo ran up and grabbed me, running away for his life. I heard many trees fall down as that Digimon chased us.
"In the end, we were cornered. There was no way to escape, and it was clear that the Digimon very much wanted to kill us. Before his attack collided... Eizo threw me out of the way. I still can't unsee the sight of that Digimon thrusting his fist right through him..." Waterfall tears were pouring from Hawkeye's eyes as he retraces that horrible memory. "When the Digimon left, I ran back up to Eizo. He had a hole in his chest, and he was making horrible breathing sounds. I couldn't... I couldn't accept it! I couldn't lose the only friend I had!
"I still remember the last words he said to me, right before he died: 'I love you, Hawkeye'... and then all the life was drained from his eyes... I... I..."
It finally happened. After years of repressing his feelings, he finally let it all out. Poromon was bawling, his eyes practically covered in tears. He had never properly mourned this loss until now, and it finally got to the point where he couldn't hold it in anymore. Kaya hugged the Poromon close to her, tears coming down her face as well. "No one should have to go through that, Hawkeye... I'm so sorry...!" The Poromon only replied with even more crying. Kaya hugged the bird tight as he finally got the chance to let it all out...
A couple hours later, Hawkeye awoke from his crying-induced nap, now back in his Hawkmon form. Kaya had been with him the entire time, petting him and making sure that he was okay in his time of need. Hawkeye lifted his head from Kaya's lap and got onto his feet. "Thank you... Kaya..."
"It's no problem... I guess I'm just glad I got to know more about you. But I had no idea..."
"That's the reason I did not tell you, Kaya. I did not want to remember those times myself. But... it felt good, reliving all the memories I had with Eizo. He was a fantastic friend, and he would've loved to know you."
"And I wish I got to know him. And Hawkeye... promise you'll tell me things now?"
"*sigh*... I suppose I have no choice now, do I? You already know my past. Fine, I promise. As long as you promise me something."
"Huh? What is it?"
"I do not plan to let Eizo's death be in vain. I want to find the Digimon that did this to him, and I want to delete him. Can you promise that you will help me achieve this?"
"Deleting sounds like going too far in my opinion, but for you... I'll do anything. I promise that I'll help you."
Hawkeye smirked at his partner. "Then it looks like we have ourselves a deal then."
