Kaya Matsui has finally made it to the junior high grade. She had been anticipating this for months now, and she was excited to finally get her own junior high school uniform. Sure, the first day was a bit of a mess due to the situation at the Shibuya Subway Station, but that was in the past and now Kaya can get properly situated in her new school life.
Before walking into the school gate, Kaya discretely pulled her Digivice out from her school bag. "Alright, Hawkeye, I'll talk to you after class today, alright?"
"Right. Have a wonderful day, Kaya," said a pixel version of a Hawkmon from the screen of the Digivice Burst.
"I still think you should attend school as well, in your holosuit. Then we'd be together all day."
"Haha, not a chance."
Kaya sighed with a grin as she put her Digivice back into her book bag. She had arrived at the school early, so there was no one in her homeroom class besides a student or two who would also get there early. Feeling like she had plenty of time, she took out her brown leather journal and began to write in it.
The specific page she was writing on contained a couple of drawings, such as a human outline with a question mark inside of it, with the question "Who is Eizo?" underneath it. In another corner of the page would be an image of what appeared to be a beetle waving to the reader, a name for it to the side: "Electro Buggy Weeaboo". And yet another image in the center of the page, with a drawing of Kaya's face on the left, and the face of a bird with a headband and feather on the right, a big title underneath: "Best Friends!"

Even by the time she arrived at school, Nanami was already sick of it. She was tired from her morning routine, as well as recovering from the day before. Between being visited by these two weird creatures that called themselves "Digimon", and the... admittedly difficult to follow conversation they had. From what she understood, they were aliens from another planet that came here in order to get stronger by Digivolving... or something. They said the word, "Digi" a whole lot, so it got kind of confusing after a while.
Regardless, it was clear that they had no place to go, so she offered to let them stay in her room for a while. She wasn't sure how her mother or Eiichirou would react to a pair of fridge-raiding aliens so she told them to stay holed up in there until she got back home. She was worried about how much trouble they were going to cause, however. Cream, the more quiet green one seemed to behave itself well enough, but the brown one with three horns, Mocha... Judging at how often she proclaimed that she was bored during the course of their conversation... she was definitely going to be trouble.
Worse yet, she had cram school after this, so she'd likely be getting home after Eiichirou would. Nanami had a feeling they wouldn't allow her to have pets, especially not the... computer space alien thingies or whatever the Digimon claimed to be.
As she took a seat near the front, pulling out the weird Digivice that appeared the same time the egg carrying those two gumdrop cretins. It was hideous, with its awkward colors of brown, green, beige... and pink. It didn't seem to have any functions on it, and the screen was so tiny she had no idea what she could use it for. It was clear they wanted Nanami's help for something, but she couldn't for the life of her figure out what it was, and their explanations were crap.
She let out a deep, depressing sigh. She had a feeling today was gonna suck.

Kaya looked up briefly from her journal entries to see that the girl with the pink hair had walked into class, sitting in the desk next to hers. She was, to Kaya's knowledge, the only kid in their class that had colored hair, so while in an anime she would blend right in, possibly even be the main character, here she just kinda stood out. She seemed nice enough, but for whatever reason Kaya just never initiated a conversation.
Not that she didn't like this girl, but because... well, what would she say?
Kaya was about to go back to her journal before she saw the girl take out a device. At first she thought it was one of those tamagotchi thingies, but then she took another look at it. It was definitely a Digivice model that she had seen once or twice before.
Was... was this girl a Tamer?
Closing her journal, Kaya leaned over to her desk neighbor. "Hey, that's a neat tamagotchi today you have there," Kaya would say, just wondering what the girl's reaction would be like.

Tamagotchi! That was the name Nanami had been thinking about all this time! As Nanami was debating her nigh-existential crisis, some random blond girl she had barely noticed before leaned closer. She was terrible with names... Matsu...something. Matsuda? Matsudaira? Matsumori? Well, it probably wasn't very important. She was probably just some virtual pet nerd. Nanami leaned closer to whisper towards the girl.
"This is just some broken piece of junk my... new roommates pawned off on me," She tried to explain. She figured that maybe explaining the whole aliens thing wasn't a good thing to do in school. She already had it bad enough with her hair. How was she supposed to know that standing out made you unpopular?
"They said they wanted me to have it to play some kind of game or something, but figuring that one of them pooped in my sink this morning, I'd rather be involved with them as little as possible at the moment." She offered the Digivice to the girl. "I'm not a fan of this Digimon or Tamagotchi stuff, so if you can get it working, you can have it."

New roommates, huh? Kaya thought as she listened to the girl explain what this device was. I suppose Digimon could count as 'new roommates', but I better keep up the act just to be sure I'm not misreading this.
The girl continued to explain how these roommates wanted her to mess around with and play with the device, but claimed that she didn't want to be involved with it since, according to her, one of them had pooped in the sink this morning. "In the sink? Do they not know that toilets exist? ...they weren't drunk, were they?"
Hawkeye was overhearing this conversation from within the Digivice, and he felt appalled by an action like that. How disgusting...
The girl then offered Kaya the device, and told her that if she could get it working, she could have it. She mentioned the word 'Digimon' in that sentence. That's when she knew that this girl was definitely a Tamer. Kaya accepted the device, and smirked at her. "That isn't how it works. You've been chosen."
To prove her point further, making sure no one was looking, she pulled out her own Digivice from her school bag and showed it to the girl. A tiny bird sprite would be present on the screen, and looking very confused. "What the- Kaya, what are you doing!?"
"You're a Digimon Tamer... like I am."

"No, I wasn't sure, so I asked if she knew how to use the toilet, and I think that she just used the sink out of spite..." She began to explain, not sure if the girl would fully understand the context. All of a sudden, the girl took her Digivice with a smirk and then proclaimed Nanami to be "chosen". Then, the girl pulled out a similar - but not quite identical - device of her own. It had a sleeker, more consistent design to it. To be honest, Nanami felt a little slighted that her Digimon gave her such a clunky-looking one by comparison.
There was a weird bird-like sprite that spoke out from the device. Nanami instinctively jerked back when it spoke, and Matsudoki continued on, exclaiming that the two of them were both something called "Digimon Tamers"
Tamer? Like those guys who whip lions in the circus? Nanami didn't think she wanted to be part of something like that. Plus the whole "chosen" thing sounded really off-putting. She didn't think she wanted Cream and Mocha being near someone as creepy as this girl.
"Th-that's some really neat information!" Nanami stammered, quickly reaching over to take back her own Digivice, stuffing it back into her pocket.."And I'm glad that you're chosen by... whoever it is you worship, but I'm not really interested in religion right now so..."
She nervously twiddled her thumbs as she anxiously awaited for class to start. She really shouldn't have shown up so early to class, today...

Hawkeye took notice of the way that the strange girl jumped back when he spoke. Of course it was natural for her to do such a thing, what would you do if your tamagotchi suddenly became sentient and spoke to you? "Forgive me, human... Kaya, what are you doing?"
"She's a Tamer, just like I am," Kaya whispered to the digivice so that the... two other people in the back wouldn't overhear them.
"Really?"
The girl didn't exactly have the reaction that Kaya was anticipating. She quickly took her own Digivice back and said that she was not interested in joining a religion right now. Wait, what? Kaya thought as she sweatdropped. "I'm not asking you to join a religion. Religion has nothing to do with this. I'm assuming that roommate that pooped in your sink wasn't exactly human? If so, that means you and that Digimon are partners, bonded together by some... magic or whatever. I can help you understand it all at least a little bit better, if you'll let me."
It was at that point that more students would walk in, as well as the teacher. "Meet me on the rooftop during our morning break. Just please trust me on this. My name is Matsui Kaya, by the way. Yours?"

"...Hanabana Nanami" She relented as the class started. But after such a weird exchange right before, there was no way that Nanami was going to pay attention. As she absentmindedly took down notes that she probably wouldn't ever look at again in her life, Nanami couldn't help but think about what her seat neighbor told her.
The blond girl, Matsui, she supposed, attempted to clarify things further, but with that brief explanation, Nanami still didn't fully grasp the situation. During their discussion yesterday, Cream said something about Nanami and the twins being partners, but the little Digimon didn't really go into details about what that entailed.
And they were bound by some... magic? She thought that the Digimon were from another world! Were they some kind of space wizards, or something? Or did she get cursed by them? Was she gonna turn into one of those puffball things or end up some bird sprite in a little Digivice!?
Her mind wandered more and more until the break started. There, she wordlessly got out of her seat and headed to the restroom. She stood in front of the mirror for a second, taking the time to wash her face. In one of the stalls, she heard a mischievous snicker as she could hear the squeaking sound of a marker hitting the tiles. No doubt some aspiring prankster making her glorious debut in the art world. Out of the prankster's sight, she gave a quiet nod of recognition to the brave young fool, then finally made her way up to the roof.
Matsui said she would explain things further, so thinking about all the possibilities of a circumstance she knew nothing about was pointless. She figured she could get just a little bit more information, then she could panic.

Kaya could tell that Nanami was a bit unnerved by this whole thing. She didn't particularly say it out right, but Kaya could still tell. At least she agreed to meet Kaya on the roof for their morning break. So all they had to do was sit through this class and then they could finally talk, and hopefully Nanami can get more information so she could calm down.
Too bad the class seemed to go on and on and on and on and on. It seemed like a full week before the class bell rang, signalling the time for morning break. The blonde girl grabbed her bag and headed up for the roof. Once she was there, she pulled out her Digivice. "Hawkmon, realize," she said, allowing Hawkeye to be beamed right out of the Digivice and into the human world.
The Hawkmon in question had a serious look on his face... more serious than usual, at least. "I overheard the conversation you had with that girl. Are you positive that she is DigiDestined?"
"She did have a Digivice. Plus I at least wanna explain things to her; she looked frightened."
"And having me be the first thing she sees is definitely going to help with that," Hawkeye said in a sarcastic tone.
"Well you're cute, at least."
"No I am not..." Hawkeye protested with a light blush on his cheeks. Kaya laughed at Hawkeye's embarrassment. Around that time was when Nanami had come up to the roof. The first thing she sees would indeed be her and Hawkeye. Perhaps Kaya did not think this through... "Please do not be alarmed, Nanami."

As Nanami got to the roof to see Kaya and... another bird creature. Or... bird-like creature, at least. Kind of like a cartoon mascot, if anything. It looked... vaguely more mature than the other two Digimon she had met. Plus, it hadn't called her stupid within five seconds of seeing her, either.
"Ah... Nice to meet you... umm..." Nanami fumbled through her words. The bird Digimon told her not to freak out, so she was trying her best not to. But if there happened to be an exact choice of words to naturally move this conversation onwards, her next choice of words definitely weren't it. "Oh, I'm Nanami... b-but you already knew that... so..." She gave a polite bow, not exactly sure how Digimon greeted each other. She glanced over to Kaya, who looked comfortable enough around the strange bird. So she wasn't lying about being humans and Digimon being partners... probably. Nanami wasn't quite sure where to begin.
No... that wasn't quite the case. She had questions, but she wasn't sure which ones were questions proper and which ones would make her sound like a fool. But... she needed to shake it off. Truth be told, she was getting annoyed at herself because she wasn't getting anywhere just fumbling around like this! Sure this whole Digimon thing might have been a tad unexpected, but she's handled worse stuff before!
"S-sorry if my questions are a little... dumb, but..." She took in a deep breath. She just had be brave and let it all out. "Do all Digimon come from eggs? Does that mean that my Digimon are going to become adorable birds as well? Why are Digimon and humans partners in the first place? Are you able to poop while you're flying like birds in our world can? How can you become a bunch of pixels? Are your feathers soft? Can I feel them? Matsui, you said that we were chosen but who's the one that chose us?" She had to take a deep breath after letting out the questions as she stared back at Kaya and the bird Digimon, slightly embarrassed.

"Hawkeye," the bird Digimon would say, "my name is Hawkeye. I was the sprite in the Digivice you had seen before class. And yes, I do know that your name is Nanami," he added when the girl started introducing herself again. The Hawkmon bowed back to her out of politeness.
Nanami was clearly having a hard time taking all of this information in. Of course one would think that after getting Digimon for the first time, you'd get used to it after a while. Clearly Nanami's partners explained diddly doodly nothing to her about any of it, at least that's what Kaya thought.
Then Nanami began asking a ton of questions at four hundred miles per hour. The speed at which she asked them one by one was so fast that only a few of the questions were actually understood by Kaya and Hawkeye, who watched with semi concerned expressions as Nanami asked her questions.
"Ehem... well, I will try to explain the ones I understood... All Digimon do indeed come from eggs, but the forms they take later on differ, depending on many varying elements. And as far as anyone knows, no one is quite sure WHY humans and Digimon are partnered in the first place."
"But it's an amazing thing that they are, that means the two worlds are connected in a way. Imagine it; one day, the superior species of both these worlds talking and being friends with each other; it'd be paradise!"
"Paradise on the same level as a rookie winning against a Mega level, possibly," Hawkeye sarcastically commented.

"Oh... nice to meet you... Mr. Hawkeye..." She bowed her head again then listened intently to the bird Digimon. She still didn't fully understand it too well, but Digimon come in all forms of shapes and sizes... she guessed. And there still wasn't some reason she had a Digivice or Digimon partners, herself. She listened as Matsui made her remark, and Hawkeye's response.
"Right... right... paradise... Rookies, and Megas..." She muttered as if she knew what they were talking about. "Wait, but what are..."
"Digimon forms. Rookies are like Hawkmon," A voice came from behind some equipment left on the roof. A small green creature crawled into view. Her eyes looked sleepy, as if someone just disturbed her nap. "And Megas... Hawkmon, but bigger..."
"C-Cream!?" Nanami nearly jumped from one of her Digimon's sudden appearance. But something was off about the green Digimon. It looked nearly the same... but didn't she have a tail earlier? "You look a little different than this morning..." Cream twister her body in an attempt to get a better look at herself.
"Mmm... Ate breakfast... Digivolved while sleeping," She muttered in between a yawns. "Gummymon now... still Cream..." The horned In-Training Digimon gave Matsui and Hawkeye a nod as she crawled over to her human's side.
"Digivolved? Gummymon? How am I supposed to understand any of that!?" Nanami pleaded the tiny Digimon. "And how did you even get here in the first place!?"
"Rode a furry, four-legged human..." She replied, nearly dozing off once more, but she shook her head and the sleep that went away with it. "Ah. Another Digimon with a human... They can explain, then..." After a sigh of relief, the Gummymon looked over towards the pair expectantly and gave a polite bow. "Please take good care of her..."
"And why are you so eager to pass the buck? Am I really that much of a pain to explain stuff to!?"

Hawkeye blinked at the "Mr." suffix that Nanami had added onto his name, and he giggled a little bit. "Hehehehe... no no no, it is just Hawkeye. No 'Mr.' required."
Nanami seemed like she was about to ask what rookies and megas were, but then a sudden voice explained it for her... a very sleepy-sounding voice. The group looked over towards some equipment to find a small green Digimon with a single horn. Nanami blurted out the Digimon's supposed name after that. "That's your partner?!" Kaya asked. She pulled her Digivice out and used it to scan the little Digimon. This is what would appear on her screen...

Clearly this Digimon was just in the Baby stage earlier, and was now in the In-Training stage. Of course the sleepy Gummymon chose to only share the abridged version of all of that, stating she rode a furry four legged human to the school. Kaya blinked. "Do you mean a dog?" The Gummymon fully noticed Kaya and Hawkeye by this point, and chose to leave all the explaining to them. They were just as confused and upset as Nanami was. "Isn't it your job to be a good partner? Explain everything to her? Why are you passing it off to us?"
"Most likely just so she can have more time to sleep," Hawkeye said with a sigh. "No wonder you are confused about all of this, Nanami."

Nanami watched as Kaya pulled out her Digivice and began to scan Cream. She walked over next to Kaya to peer at her screen. "So these things can tell us stuff about... Digimon?" She instinctively pulled her own Digivice out, pointing it out towards Hawkeye, but stopped herself. She shook her head and put her Digivice back into her pocket. "That's... kind of... creepy. Like, I don't think I'd like it very much if someone could scan me that easily..." She rubbed her own shoulders, shivering at the thought.
Meanwhile, Cream was contemplating what Kaya just said. "Dog? Like in Dogmon?" Cream paused before then nodding to herself. "That makes sense. The human versions are definitely weirder, though..."
But Hawkeye's comment triggered an annoyance in the normally calm Gummymon. "I did explain, but she was too busy freaking out and trying to hide Mocha and I from some, 'mother' and 'aycheerou'."
"It's Eiichiro..." Nanami corrected in a weak tone of voice, but Cream seemed unconcerned.
"I wanted someone who could relate to her to explain things, since I don't know the first thing about this human world," Cream's normally low-key voice was growing a little more passionate with sentence. "So maybe I would have rather taken 'more time to sleep' than try to talk to the person who didn't even bother explaining anything to us about her own world, and instead just told us to hide away all day while she went out to abandon us!"
Nanami just stood there in stunned silence as she watched Cream finish her tirade. The Gummymon seemed physically exhausted just from her outburst, but she got back to normal after taking a couple deep breaths. "Cream... I didn't realize... I mean..."
"It's not like I'm mad or anything..." Cream interrupted in her normally calm voice, but didn't make eye contact with her human partner. "Ah, but you should watch out for Mocha. She's definitely mad at you."

"Well in a way, yes," Kaya said. "My Digivice has an improved scanner, which can tell you this stuff right here. Without it, all the information you'd get only a name, pretty much." Kaya raised an eyebrow when Nanami called it creepy. "It's just like the Pokedex they use in the Pokemon anime, I don't think it's that weird."
Kaya blinked at Cream. "There's a Dogmon?"
"Indeed. And in my opinion, you would not find it cute like you would any other Digimon."
Suddenly Cream started getting mad, saying she did try to explain things but Nanami kept trying to hide her and someone named Mocha. "How did you and Nanami meet? I just ended up in the Digital World so I didn't have to worry about hiding Hawkeye or anything."
Cream's outburst got more intense, claiming that Nanami just told her and this Mocha to hide away all day and abandoned them. Kaya looked up towards the seemingly distraught Nanami. "You didn't actually... try to abandon them, did you?" she asked.
"I apologize for what I said," Hawkeye told Cream, "but the way you seemed to ask us to help made it seem like you simply did not care about it at all. Clearly that is not the case now."
