A HONEY TRAP ENCOUNTER [PRIVATE: FAUSTEIN, MANDRAKE] (DONE)

Mandrake's Badda Boom hardly singed Waspmon even though he wasn't holding back. While he didn't want to kill Waspmon to escape, he hardly wanted to meet his end either. If only he was a little stronger than they would have an easier time with the bee digimon. When Stein's partners gathered near him they delivered a message about a telepathic link. Opening his mind he telepathically linked to Stein, Taser, and Lego and telepathically said "This is an exercise in futility. What if he summons help? Like I said out loud, we can't fight off the entire hive."
Mandrake was concerned that he wouldn't be listened too again considering Stein had ignored much of his advice so far but he couldn't just flee and abandon the reckless general either. In this tough situation he really missed his friend Lothar and his physical strength but now was not the time to have those thoughts. The angry Waspmon's yell worried him and he wondered how he would handle things if things spiraled further out of control. Then he felt a rush of power flow through him as he began to glow. 'Could this be? Is it possible I'm digivolving?' he thought as the glowing intensified. "Impmon digivolve to Wizardmon!" What was a small imp moments ago was now a short humanoid digimon dressed as a wizard. The only thing one would recognize was what was tied to the end of the unfamiliar digimon's blond hair and forming a short pony tail was Mandrake's scarf from when he was Impmon.

Faustein considered Mandrake's advice again and realized that indeed it was a losing battle or would be potentially turning into one very soon.
Fair enough. Alright then. we'll follow your advice and make a tactical retreat then.
He motioned to Taser and Lego, directing them to his side after which he had them create a smokescreen to try to further throw off the Waspmon's sensors by destroying the section of wall opposite the hole made by the Waspmon. Then, under cover of the smoke, he, Taser and Lego rushed toward the impromptu exit created by the Waspmon's attack from earlier and prepared to jump out. He looked at the Impon turned Wizardmon and asked telepathically
Well? Let's take our leave, shall we?
With that said, Faustein fell silent and then, with the assistance of his two digimon, he leaped out of the Hive and onto the ground. Then, he waited for Mandrake to come and join the party as well so that the group as a whole could make their way out of the forest to a safer location.

Though he had digivolved to Wizardmon, Mandrake was glad Stein took his advice this time as he made his way out of the hole made in the hive as well. Catching up was no trouble considering Stein was easy to spot with his distinctive appearance. As he caught up his body began to glow and he reverted to Impmon. Looking at himself, he said "Apparently I'm not ready to fully control the power of my champion form. Maybe the stress of being in danger triggered my digivolution. To digimon such a thing is not completely unheard of." He then looked at Stein while crossing his arms before he said "Now no more beating around the bush, Stein. Why were you in the hive? If you won't answer I could ask Taser and Lego since I really don't want to resort to forcefully entering your mind for the answer."
It was true that Mandrake could use his telepathy to read Stein's mind but he would rather wait to see if Stein would give him a straight answer.

"How intriguing...I see, so then it's similar to the fight or flight response that is an instinct of every animal in the human world. That bears further investigation, methinks..."
However, his soliloquy was interrupted by Mandrake the Impmon interrogating him about the reason for his presence in the Hive. He sighed as he realized he could not bluff his way out of the situation, so he told the truth
"The royal honey, of course. I encountered it a while ago, and grew enamored of its unparalleled taste and aroma which are nothing short of ambrosial..."
He paused to collect his thoughts and then went on, choosing his words very carefully since he was aware of the little imp's telepathy
"After doing adequate research, I learned that it was produced only in the bowels of a mysterious structure known only as the "Royal Hive". So, I ventured to this forest in search of this elusive secret base of the Beemon. Sure enough, inside I found a giant pool of raw, freshly made honey. I took a jar full of it since I figured they had plenty still left for their own stores. That's about it, you know the rest, I presume."
He finished and fell silent, trying to keep his face impassive and inscrutable and his mind almost completely free of thoughts. He waited to see what Mandrake would do and/or say in response.

"Possibly but living things in the Human World don't digivolve when threatened unless they are digimon trying to protect their partners. The process of digivolution is rather complex and can take many years for most digimon to reach their highest stage." Mandrake said as he thought of the fight with Waspmon from earlier.
Then when Stein explained the reason for his reckless and potentially life threatening venture into the hive, Mandrake stared at the general in disbelief before he glared "So this whole thing was an elaborate heist that backfired and now I'm responsible for freeing a thief. No wonder the bee digimon wouldn't listen to what I had to say. They probably thought I was your accomplice."
Mandrake took some deep breaths as he gathered himself before speaking again. "Did you realize that the bee digimon would soon be selling the honey. You could have acquired it legally and didn't have to endanger yourself on this stupid stunt. If you asked Taser and Lego they may have been able to tell you when they honey would be sold."

"Then, I suppose that form of yours which you digivolved into earlier is not your highest?"
He asked inquisitively and was about to continue when Mandrake chastised him for his pernicious actions and grumbled that it was caught up in Faustein's antics and imprisoned because of him
"Yes, that's the sort of risk anyone runs when they happen to be in the presence of a mad physician-scientist extraordinaire such as myself. You have to admit though, it did provide you with the boost you may have required to finally achieve your recently unlocked stage, right?I Surely you must have enjoyed the feeling of experience that adrenaline rush that occurred when your body finally realized it was in mortal danger."
Then, Mandrake had proposed that he would have been better off acquiring the honey legally like everyone else, but there was a problem with that
"Fair point, but you see...the honey which these Beemon sell..."
He looked about just to be on the safe side and then bent low to whisper in a conspiratorial manner
"...pales in comparison to what i found in th Hive...its basically bland and unaromatic in comparison...so much so that it is rather pitiful."
Then, he stood up again and continued
"Do you really think I would be satisfied with this inferior version of the product in question? Besides, all of the most exquisite pleasures in life can never be obtained with taking some degree of risk, wouldn't you say?"

"Hardly. After the champion level comes the ultimate, mega, and super mega levels. Each of these levels take great discipline and strength to master. Since I haven't mastered the champion level yet, I still have quite a way to go."
Mandrake let out an exasperated sigh as he listened to Stein talk before he said "While what you say is true, I would rather my adventures didn't land me in prison. Such a thing makes finding a friend of mine needlessly difficult."
When Stein leaned closer to him and explained about the honey from the hive, Mandrake said "You might have still found legal ways to get this kind of honey, like bartering or even helping others. One thing you shouldn't do is approach a hive during honey gathering season." Mandrake smirked before he continued "You experience with our hosts was a good example of why. Besides I like the regular honey just fine."

""Fascinating, I wonder whether Taser and Lego will be capable of the same someday...regardless, will be quite entertaining to behold, I presume."
He said while leading the group away from the Hive to minimize chances of getting caught, and paused a moment to collect his thoughts before continuing
"Oh? a compatriot, eh? So, is that why you were in the forest?"
He asked as his curiosity was aroused by the thought of what could potentially be a missing person search, and was about to continue, but then the topic turned to honey, so he refocused his mind on that
"So these Beemon are actually so reasonable that if I simply ask nicely and have a peace offering of equivalent value, they would willingly give up the best of their unadulterated royal honey stores to me?"
He remarked with disbelief on his face at Mandrake's suggestion and was about to continue the argument, but then he heard loud buzzing noises again which were followed by the sounds of a warning
"ALERT!!, ALERT!! INTRUDERS DETECTED!! UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ARE TO LEAVE THESE PREMISES IMMEDIATELY BY ORDER OF THE QUEEN'S GUARD!!"
Curses, seems like we triggered some sensor network...oh well, time to make a quick exit, I suppose
He mused as he withdrew Taser and Lego into his digivice for added protection and then turned to Mandrake
"What say we make mad dash till we are out of this forest? Then we can resume this conversation at our leisure."

"Since I have very little knowledge about Xros Generals, I can't say." Mandrake said wondering if he should mention that twins were usually capable DNA digivolving with one another. Knowing Stein he would figure out that detail on his own.
When Stein asked about him being in the forest he said "Partially, I was traveling through the forest to reach the next town and if I found my friend along the way it would have been a benefit. Then when I sensed you and your partners with my telepathy curiousity got me involved in the trouble you managed to stir up. As for the Beemon, some of the hives are actually very reasonable."
As angry buzzing and shouting was heard, Stein suggested they pick up the pace. "I agree. It is quite clear we are no longer welcome around here."
The two of them continued until reaching a road the sound of buzzing only faintly hearable.

"Ah well, I suppose the truth will reveal itself to me in due time."
Faustein said, shrugging and listened intently to Mandrake talk about its friend which it was apparently searching for
"Well, I think it would be safe to say that we stepped into quite the hornet's nest, then. Then again, nothing which is worth great value can be obtained without some degree of risk, right? Principle of Equivalent Exchange, I am sure you are familiar with it."
Finally, it was time to head back to his regular journey, so he bade goodbye to Mandrake before starting to walk away with Taser and Lego
"Alright, so it has finally come time to bid you adieu. So, fare thee well and may the Norns watch over us till next we meet."
Only future could know whether or not they would ever meet again, but Faustein was sure that whatever the circumstances, he would derive great amusement from it.

"I suppose your right. I just hope that my search will work itself out soon." Mandrake said with a sigh.
Indeed Mandrake was familiar with the concept of equivalent exchange but sometimes things were to much to risk ones life for. 'Hopefully Stein will learn to be a bit more cautious in time. I'd hate to be caught up with him involved in another heist.' he thought with a shake of his head. Stein bid him farewell and made his way to Sovereigns know where.
"What a strange human this Stein is. I have a feeling trouble will end up following that man where ever he goes. At least he as Taser and Lego to keep him out of too much trouble." Mandrake said as he began walking down the road heading toward the next village. He not only had a friend to find but also had to master his newly accessed champion form.
