A large, grandiose stage had been set up in the middle of Rosewood Town. The self-proclaimed Demon King of the Digital World had spared no expenses this time in the production of what he claimed to be his magnum opus - a theatrical adaptation of the classic human-world fairy tale, Snow White. In Japan, Snow White was known as Shirayukihime, so that was the name they had put in the title, so as to avoid being sued for copyright infringement by a certain mouse.
The curtains soon opened to the applause of many In-Training and Rookie level Digimon that had come to watch the spectacle, as the play began proper with the narrator’s voice introducing the titular character to the audience. “Once upon a time, there was a lovely young princess who had skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood and hair as black as ebony. Her name was Shirayukihime, and she was sad, for her father had recently passed away.”
“Too soon!” Said Yuko, who was on stage in an elegant, blue and yellow dress with puffy sleeves, and had her hair dyed jet black for the role. “Uuh… I mean, oh no, I’m sad. How sad. Sob. Sob.” She added in a deadpan tone.
“Shirayukihime lived with her stepmother, the Evil Queen. She was very evil, and she hated Shirayukihime who was very good. The Evil Queen was jealous of Shirayukihime’s beauty, so she forced her to work as a scullery maid. However, the Evil Queen needed further affirmation, so she asked her Magic Mirror daily who was the most beautiful woman in the whole kingdom. The Magic Mirror usually answered that she was, until one day…”
Jokermon entered the stage, brimming with confidence. He was wearing a purple dress, a flowing, black cape and a crown. Despite being cast as the wrong gender, he looked like he had waited his entire life to play this role. “Mirror, mirror on the wall, all-knowing magical artifact that sees all, answer this purely subjective question at my call! Who is the fairest of them all? Verily it has to be me, ye all!” He rhymed, chewing the scenery with his Vaudevillian overacting and exaggerated movements.
The ‘Magic Mirror’ was actually just MarineDevimon’s giant head coming out of a circular hole in the wall. The aquatic devil chuckled at the Queen’s query. “You? Hah, no way! You’re more like the ugliest of them all!”
“That wasn’t in the script…” The clown in drag whispered, making a ‘cut it out’ gesture with his hand.
“You’re so ugly, you make all non-magical mirrors break! You’re so ugly, cosmetic surgeons gave up on your case long ago! You’re so ugly, a police investigator once saw your face and asked what was the cause of death!”
“You’re pushing it, MarineDevimon!”
“Actually, what the Magic Mirror meant to say was that Shirayukihime was the fairest in the land.” The narrator’s nervous voice interrupted them.
“Oh no! That makes me feel so insecure!” Queen Jokermon put his arm over his head, as if he was about to faint from hearing the news. “Verily there is but one logical solution to this very petty problem… Murder!”
“The envious Evil Queen ordered her loyal Huntsman to take Shirayukihime into the forest, kill her, and bring back her heart in a jeweled box as proof of the deed. However, once they reached the woods, the Huntsman could not bring himself to kill Shirayukihime.”
“I cannot bring myself. To kill you, Shirayukihime.” The part of the Huntsman was played by IceDevimon, wearing what looked like an old hunting outfit from medieval Europe. “Cutting a little girl’s heart. Out of her chest. Is messed up. What is even my name?”
“Oh no. I can’t believe the Evil Queen is evil and wants my death.” Yuko half-heartedly replied, by that point clearly wanting no part in this production.
“Flee into the woods. And don’t look back.” IceDevimon urged her. “You will find seven little creatures there. I think they’re dwarfs.”
“Dude, spoilers!”
