Passing Down Generations (Syre)

To some extent, Syre saw what Cion meant. Truly, it would be a benefit to permanently maintain a higher form, and in the event her control failed - that she ran out of energy, that she pushed herself too far, or that simply ascending to Super Mega took too much energy - she could be left completely vulnerable, in the face of the enemy. The Sistermon grit her teeth as she considered it.
"... You have a point, of course." Syre's goal wasn't to maintain this form truly indefinitely, as Cion did, but rather to be able to use the forms comfortably. Even though it crossed a wire in her head that made it 'sound' wrong, didn't that also mean that she would have to alter her way of thinking? But, it also meant that this training would be completely counter to everything that she learned from the Knights of the Rose.
This next step would be monstrously difficult. Cion put it well: Syre did not know what it was to fight serenely. "Holly's always been prone to massive bursts of energy over short amounts of time. She's sweet, but her temper often takes control of her actions while she fights, and... honestly, I worry for her, every time she comes home drained or wounded from a mission. If anything, I don't want you to have to worry about the same thing."
With that? The Sistermon would take a deep breath, and would once more center her core - in the same relaxed state that she was in before. Syre wasn't sure how her weapons would react to her in this state, but what she did know is that it didn't feel entirely natural to fight like this.
"We can spar, or I can try staying as a Sistermon for an extended period of time. I'd say... the most I've managed to clock in this form before is about 14 hours. I'm used to it, but the form does - well, did burn more energy than it was able to retain. And if I had to guess, simply 'reaching' this relaxed state is a whole different story than 'keeping' it?"

Although they originated from well-nigh diametrically opposed pasts and paths, it was nonetheless easy for them to see from the same point of view and recognize the occasional wisdom in their words. Both teacher and pupil were in the end eternal students, willing to behold and cherish the innumerable facets that live contained. Combat and ascension were no an exception, even if it was difficult to internalize and perform antithetical teachings. It was a perfectly understandable challenge, but since they lacked any real pressure of time, why not face it with poise and a confident smile?
Attentively listening to Syre's explications, Cion was happy to receive a fair amount of additional insight into Holly. As someone who unhesitatingly dismissed stereotypes and prejudices, outside of jests that was, she had not felt the tiniest spark of unease in the presence of the Meicoomon. Given how chummy the patterned feline was, she saw no reason why. However, the so-called bursts of energy were a cause for minor concern, especially with an often detrimental temper. More than that though, the benign sentiment that was shared made the silver fennec slowly approach her dearly beloved.
"Hey, I don't worry... much. I know of your seldom seen prowess, and I respect that you wish to use it to better lives. To me, it's further proof that your outer beauty equals your inner..." She spoke softly as her body lifted slightly off the ground. Hovering in front of the Sistermon, her dovelike touch would rest on her dear's cheek, which she gently caressed. Humanoid or mammalian, and regardless of the way her darling perceived herself, her love for her was not affected in the slightest. She simply wanted her partner to be without unfulfilled wishes and desires. "... and I will support you, no matter what you need from me. And maybe, once you master yourself, you can likewise help your sister."
It was a pleasant notion, was it not? To pass skills and experiences down generations. What mentor was not satisfied by a student surpassing them someday? With the knight who was her protégé, Cion believed that the day was quite close - relatively speaking of course. Nevertheless, she wondered what this would mean for her? Was she bound to be obsolete, or had she not proven to be feckless already? Huh... it probably was a question to be concerned later. And as weird as it sounded, perhaps training Syre was her final destination.
Mentally shaking her head, the vulpine sentinel knew that these thoughts were of no importance at the moment, hence she did as before and cast them into the depths of her subconscious. With refreshed focus, she was admittedly somewhat surprised that her lovey seemed indecisive about the next step she wished to undertake. Naturally, the restrained Arniomon was not hesitant to provide her own input. "The concept is the same - a calm core and innermost clarity. But as with fighting serenely, living in a state of unwavering placidity is foreign to mind and soul alike."
Had she been able to do so perpetually? No. Even with her dearest by her side, she had frequently found herself lost in dark figments and ideas. A strong sense of self was not a positive force in its entirety. Yet without it, would she have encountered the daughter of the doctor and the paladin in the first place - the radiant beacon which had saved her? Likely not. "You should exist in this form until you no longer feel strained by it. Let's dine and amuse ourselves as we usually do, but add a rigid exercise routine to train your whole system. Is this agreeable for you?"

Could Holly learn something like this?
Honestly, the thought hadn't crossed her mind until Cion put the words in front of her. Reaching forward to rest a hand on Cion's cheek, the Sistermon found herself mulling over the thought - and lightly blushing at the fennec's comments from moments prior. "Maybe... but it'd be a matter of me mastering this to begin with." And, otherwise, a matter of if the 'Meicoomon' species was even capable of such a feat, as they often had chaotic cores of her own.
That thought didn't cross Syre's head, though. And, soon enough, her thoughts returned to her own training, nodding as Cion spoke. "Mhm... and there's probably quite the difference in focus between 'existing' in this calmer state and 'living' with it. I fear I might lose focus at least a few times when my darling here decides to flirt with me." She gave a chuckle, reaching up to give the Arniomon a small scratch under her chin. Their strategy was decided: Syre would try and exist in this form as long as she could, even taking the time to press herself with training, and would continue to do so until it felt 'natural' to her. By doing so, she could set her default one rung higher, and then move right onto the next...
Right? That's how Syre saw it, at least. "Well, its agreeable to me." The Sistermon gave a nod - and looked down to her hands. "Though its a bit unfortunate that this is the form for it. Sistermon, the clay golem." She chuckled a bit at the thought, shaking her head. "Well. Every form I have above champion's not even a cat. Gatomon evolution lines... they tend to bounce around a lot."
Whether it was from cat to angel to dragon, or cat to golem to fox, or whatever other variation... yes, Gatomon lines were strange!

Displaying her appreciation of the various caresses she received with a pleased murr, a beaming grin manifested itself on her muzzle. Syre was perhaps not a master of herself yet, but if there was something that nobody could beat her in then it was her affectionateness, which Cion savored each and every time. Nonetheless listening to her darling's tongue-in-cheek concerns, she was unable to help herself and chuckled heartily. "So me flirting with you is your weak point, hmm? Criminy... whatever should we do about that?" She asked rhetorically, her voice flaring up with teasing jest as her fingers began to tap the onyx feline's chest.
But maybe this was a question for later. Suspiring, the silver fennec recognized anew the passion and dedication her dearly beloved displayed. It was almost literally burning in her amber eyes, and it was this radiant gleam, among others merits, that were so... appealing. Releasing her grasp, she naturally paid attention to the sentiments that her sweetheart shared with her. Eventually, she shook her head calmly and provided ample reassurance to the Sistermon. "Curious, for whenever I look at thee, the lands' most fair belle beckons me over." She commented with an overly dramatic tone and intentionally old-fashioned vocabulary.
Oh how much she cherished the bond they had forged. It was a well-nigh perfect duality of sincerity and shenanigans, all wrapped up in a perpetual serenity of intimate togetherness. Was it frolicking or striving towards a better tomorrow, their paths deviated seldomly. Hence, as both had their future in mind, they did as intended - simply living their lives.
And they did so successfully for a few days. While initially strenuous, at least to the unassuming fox it seemed that her love had become accustomed to her current state of being. If not, then she was rather apt in remaining stoic and pretending otherwise. Unfortunately, the nearly inevitable occurred. The aspects of this exact moment during their training were difficult to limn, but what had transpired was clear as day. Her partner's system had shut down, not unlike an overdriven machine that was bound to suffer wear and tear.
A mere blink of an eye had passed and there she was, incandescence shattering like shards of glass, leaving behind the familiar form of a beautiful felidae. Yet it was not fully as it appeared to be. The ring around her tail was gone, implying that she had regressed into a Rookie. Approaching her cautiously, Cion immediately embraced the Gatomon's black paw with her own, seeking to sense the health and rhythm of her core. "How do you feel, Syre? Are you hurt? Do you need anything?" She inquired, calm sometimes yielding to concern.

Honestly, that Syre had even stuck it out for this long was quite impressive. What was it, three, four days that she managed to stay in her ultimate form, 'above' her default?
Although her first full day as a Sistermon was shaky, Syre managed to push through and keep at it. She still had to manually 'refocus' her core several times to try and keep a state of calm, but other than that? She was helping around the apartment, cracking jokes, going through her reports and paperwork with the Knights - very much being 'Syre', even if she was much taller.
Despite that, it was probably clear that her control was imperfect. Perhaps Sistermon was simply too 'different' than the mammalian champion, or perhaps this was the limit of her first attempts. Either way, the Sistermon's form broke as she was simply sitting on the couch, leaving the rookie level BlackGatomon to fall against the back cushion, and bring a paw right up to her forehead. "Ugh..." Her ear flicked as she felt Cion's hands curl around her own, and felt those eyes look deep into her core. What Cion saw was nothing of grave concern - her data was simply fatigued, looking as a 'normal' one might after a pretty strenuous fight, or perhaps in a state of overwork.
Was it uncomfortable? Absolutely, but it would be something that Syre could bounce back from. "Ugh... I think I'm fine. More like I'm tired than anything else... how's it look from your end?" With Mikemon as her father, Syre knew better than to write anything off blindly. She flicked her tail, seeing the lack of a ring, giving a sigh. "Been a while since I've been down to rookie - I'd gotten used to that ring being there. As for what I need..."
What sounded good right now?
"... A sports drink, I think." Syre always had a few in the fridge, as they helped level her out after her 'normal' training. "Well, how'd I do for my first time tryin' this?"

Admittedly, the two lovebirds could consider themselves lucky that the sudden regression had occurred within the spacious confines of their own four worlds, and not the unpredictable circumstances of outside. And though the destabilization left a tension headache on her dearly beloved felidae, no real harm had afflicted her. Even as Cion entwined her fingers around the BlackGatomon's to perceive the rhythm of her core, no anomaly was ultimately sensed by her. In fact, the cadence was noticeably calm, as if the training routine had already yielded its first fruits.
"Just fatigue from prolonged overstress - as to be expected. Still, it was fortunate that this transpired in a cushioned environment." The silver fennec responded with a relieved sigh, hoping that this explication would ease her darling's spirits, too. Her temporary state as a Rookie was enough of a drop of bitterness that further burdens for the mind were simply not needed. Hence, as per her offer, the unassuming fox rapidly dashed into the kitchen to retrieve the requested beverage and returned with it at once. And although she considered such supplementary drinks inadequate digital nutrition, especially compared to a wholesome meal, she gladly handed it over with a plastic straw to simplify consumption. "There you go!"
With that little favor out of the way, she decided that emotional support and sincere encouragement were the best approach to this new experience. Therefore, to emphasize that her affection and help was unconditional, she sat down next to the onyx feline. Before long, her arm found itself wound around her waist, enabling the aspiring knight to gently lean into her for repose and comfort, not unlike a pillow. "Truth be told... better than I. Of course I did not possess a personal trainer back then, but still... you can be as proud as I am about your feat." Cion kindly voiced her slightly tongue-in-cheek feedback with a rapt, toothy grin. A bit of levity seemed appropriate to relieve potential tension.
That and the petite kiss on the cheek of her sweetheart - a well-deserved reward.

"Yeah, that's what I figured. And I definitely don't think I'd use this 'state' for anything practical - not until I got a handle on it, at least."
If anything, Syre sounded just a touch frustrated that she had reached her limit. She had done so well to stay as a Sistermon for the better part of a week, so much so that she thought she had it! But, unfortunately, she was left as a mere rookie, and needed a pick-me-up to level herself back out. She took the offered sports drink, giving a nod of thanks before taking a nice, long sip through the straw.
"Mm... much better." She found herself already starting to cheer up, leaning lightly against her beloved as that arm wrapped around her back. "Heh... guess it makes sense that you weren't a natural at this, either. Figuring most of this out blind must have been quite the ordeal." She grinned at that peck, and returned a kiss to the fennec's cheek in the next moment. "That said, I think I'm going to take a break from that 'state' for the rest of the day, to relax and to compare how the two different ones feel. Honestly..."
Syre mulled it over. "Though its definitely something I could 'keep on', maybe its best I just consider it an 'option' or a 'tool'. Certainly, there are a lot of accomplished Digimon who've never reached that sort of... 'calmness', I guess is a good word for it?" The feline gave a shrug. "Even if its only something I use for mega and super mega, it'll be worth it."
Though, maybe Syre still wasn't getting quite the right idea on this, if she was still thinking of it as a choice? Or, maybe Syre did have the right of it - honestly, the cat was probably thinking just a few steps too far ahead. Taking another drink, she gave a nod to the TV. "But for now, I say we just kick back and chill. Nothing better to do until I can get my ring back."
