Dorulumon groaned as he tried to find sleep outside a cave in the Eastern Timberlands. His general and Vemmon were sound asleep inside the cave. Sure he was claustrophobic but that was obviously not what was keeping him up. Rising to all four of his feet he began taking a walk. He knew Vemmon could keep Kazumi safe but, even then, he wasn't planning on going very far. He was just trying to wear himself out so he could hopefully sleep. Deciding to walk laps around the cave he listened to the sounds of the forest. Various small insects were chirping and buzzing so there was no reason to panic. If there was no sound, however, that would be a different story. That very fact seemed true in both the Human and Digital World alike. With the drill on his tail tipped upward he continued his walk. This had worked on many a restless night before he met Kazumi before so this would likely prove no different.
Meanwhile nature's call had forced Kazumi from her deep sleep as she rolled into a seated position. Rubbing her eyes she looked at Vemmon before not deciding to wake him. Rising to her feet she headed for the exit of the cave and when she stepped outside of it, she saw that Dorulumon was nowhere to be seen but she could see that the leaves had been disturbed so maybe he had to use the bathroom or, in this group's case, bushes as well. Figuring the wolf digimon wasn't very far she shuffled in the direction of some bushes that were roughly ten feet away give or take. As she made it to the bushes she quietly tended to her business before she turned to head back for the cave. When the insects grew eerily silent she froze and became uneasy. In the forest dead silence was a bad thing so she knew it was probably wise to get back to the cave. Turning back to the cave she began walking as fast as she could back to its relative safety.
Meanwhile Dorulumon had heard the insects go quiet but was hearing the movement of something fairly large moving through the forest so he headed back for the cave. Soon he caught Kazumi's scent and noticed she was swiftly heading for the cave but he didn't smell Vemmon near her. 'What is she doing out here alone? Even if she had decided to take a walk she should have brought Vemmon with her. No time to worry about that now, I have to get back to her before the other large lifeform catches her alone.' Dorulumon thought as he took of running in Kazumi's direction fortunately having no trouble catching up to his general and stopped in front of her.
"Dorulumon, what are you doing out here? Is it because of the insects?" Kazumi asked.
"I should be asking you the same thing but that's not important right now. There is something large headed this way and we need to get back to the cave before it catches up to us. There is no guarantee that it will be friendly." he said as he lay down and allowed his general to climb on his back.
After Kazumi swiftly climbed on Dorulumon's back the orange and white wolf like digimon sprinted in the direction of the cave. He was going so fast that in order to not fall off, Kazumi lay across his back and grabbed his fur while hanging on for dear life. This briefly made her wonder if Vemmon and Dorulumon could move like this when they were in the Digi Xros form of Vemmon X2a but that though vanished from her mind quickly since she had to focus on hanging on. She could always revisit that thought at another time.
Sooner than Kazumi expected Dorulumon had gotten the two of them to the cave entrance and she climbed carefully off him softly landing on her feet with only a slight wobble. "We should head into the cave so we can talk." Dorulumon said causing Kazumi to look at him funny since she was fully aware of his claustrophobia causing him to sigh before he then said "You can just recall me into the Xros Loader before entering the cave and I'll be fine." The Xros Loader seemed to never trigger his claustrophobia for some mysterious reason. Maybe it wasn't confining in their or something, who knew?
After recalling Dorulumon into the Xros Loader she headed back into the safety of the cave and sat down next to Vemmon. It seemed the little insect like digimon didn't even realize she had left but then again, under most circumstances, he slept like the dead. Good thing she could wake him if she needed to by tickling his ribs.
"Kazumi, why did you leave the cave without Vemmon? The Digital Word is dangerous at times. Surely you know that by now." Dorulumon lectured the twenty year old from within the Xros Loader.
Pinching the bridge of her nose with a sigh, Kazumi said "I know but I didn't want to bother him for something as small as a bathroom break. I'm not five." She looked at Vemmon briefly before continuing "Besides he looks so peaceful when he sleeps so I didn't have the heart to disturb him. He deserves what ever peace and happiness he can find in his life."
Dorulumon had to admit Kazumi had a point since she told him about Vemmon's father after he came with them to the Human World for the first time. Exiting lecture mode he then said "Sorry if I came off as a lecturing parent, Kazumi, I was just worried. What if neither I or Vemmon could've gotten to you if that digimon was aggressive."
"I know you were worried. Sometimes I keep forgetting we are supposed to be a team. Before I met you guys I was an ordinary human after all. To be fair digimon are still overwhelming and strange to me at times."
"I think Vemmon and I are in the same boat when trying to understand humans in general. At least you weren't hurt and I think I've burned up enough energy to sleep. Good night, Kazumi."
"Good night, Dorulumon." Kazumi said as she pocketed her Xros Loader before laying down. Looking at Vemmon one more time she said "Good night, Vemmon." She fell asleep a short time later.
