It had taken a little bit of time for shade to get used to the quiet again. Or rather the sort of quiet that wouldn’t be disturbed by others. This place of peace and tranquility was also one of learning and of… fun? There were activities that the others seemed interested in doing. Reading to be had and other games; some that he wasn’t entirely familiar with or were so complicated they made his head hurt.
But as of late he had stuck to trying to teach himself how to read better; which only came from sitting down and devoting his time to the books he was able to understand from the library. Some had words he didn’t recognize. Which led to other books telling him what those meant… and some of them telling him what those did. It was a convoluted pattern and sometimes he’d forget what he was reading in the first place; prompting him to have to start over.
Tonight was one such night, sitting against a tree, several dictionaries and thesaurus’ opened next to him. The primary book that he was reading into was one about the digital world. A close approximation of the history of some of the places. The various wars and struggles as lit by a more neutral party.
That was something that shade needed to understand; the sort of struggles people had with one another. The sort of places that he could go and be accepted; why places were how they were. Not in just the environment… but in their drives and such. Luminas was one such place he didn’t seem to understand; nor did he understand the money made mind of terminus.
The large wraithgururumon bit their lower lip; flicking a page and leaning in a bit to read at the words. His eyes didn’t seem to have a problem with the moonlit area; nor did they have a problem telling the ink from the paper.
”Much of this history is war… is that all our kind is good for?”
Silence answered his question and he’d just sigh; giving a small shake of his head. He had yet to find any mention of others of his kind as well. He knew of only a few and none of them were exactly prominent figures… so maybe just maybe his kind was forgotten in such a way that would make it difficult to recall them. Maybe he should try writing about his own experiences and own life?
That would be difficult and the wolf man would snort; slowly turning the page once more. Gifted with a picture of luminas, whitewater, rustport and terminus next to one another. It was a comparison of their sizes… about a hundred or so years prior. Something he wasn’t sure if he cared about… but the information was valuable. He’d click his tongue against the roof of his mouth. Setting the book in his lap before glancing up to the sky.
This place was also not in any of the books he had read. But he felt that the history here was so deep. What was he missing of the world if places like these existed but never were told of? It made him wonder just how truly big this place was…
And what his role may be in it. A dreamer perhaps? Or was it something more dark? He’d grit his teeth and shake his head…. Those sorts of thoughts were ones that could be had now that he was safe. Now that he didn’t hunger constantly.
It worried him.

"... If what you were looking for wasn't in the Terminus library, why would it be here?"
Shade wouldn't be the only one perusing these old tomes today - though the specter was probably the only one doing it for sentimental reasons. As the wolf-man would consider his own thoughts, he'd hear a conversation from the hall, an assertive voice questioning another. It took only a few moments longer for the two to come into the room: a Knightmon, quizzically looking down at his blonde, human tamer.
Denryu, with his hands half in his pockets, looked towards the bookshelves.
"That's exactly why. What's 'current' in the library only pertains to how things are today. As things get updated in whatever qualifies as a 'census' around here, old information is lost. Population data, figures of importance..."
"... And maps." The last was what was most important to Denryu at the moment. Denryu wasn't exactly sure where he'd find the information, but what was here looked promising. Old, worn down books, covered with the dust and honesty of a simpler age. The Knightmon, figuring what he was resigned to for the next few hours, simply shook his head.
He grabbed whatever book looked large enough to occupy his time for the next few hours, and sat a few seats down from the specter. No sense trying to talk his tamer out of this sort of mood, once he was in it.

Shade’s ears flicked as he heard someone speak; it was late and the wolf figured that most people would be in bed by now. He’d look up from his book to find two individuals. One human and one knightmon. Neither he recognized and neither of them he had any knowledge prior of. But it wasn’t hard to overhear what they were talking about.
They were looking for something no doubt and shade kept to himself, pulling the book slowly and closer to his muzzle. To avoid having to look at them; to avoid interaction for the moment. But then the human spoke of things that he was seeing in the book he was reading. There were counts, there were figures… and while they weren’t exactly up to date maps they still were maps of the various cities.
Shade bit his lip; he had gotten about halfway into this book and he was sure that more information here would be largely helpful to him. But at the same time he had merely grabbed it due to it’s simple title. With a sigh the wolf would set down the book; among the other books that he had… and would speak up.
”This book has several things of what the human seeks. Though the information is very… dated? Shade thinks the term is?”
Shade seemed a bit apprehensive of speaking up; his words slow and uncertain. There was a lot of information in this book even if it was fairly slender. Maybe that’s part of the reason it was often overlooked. Shade flicked his eyes to one of the dictionaries and grumbled; going to look up the word he had just used.
”...That is the term yes... Why must there be so many words that mean so many different things when only a few will do..? Tch…”
Shade grumbled a bit and leaned on his elbow, eyes dragging over to the knightmon and their partner. Was this a tamer pairing that just happened to be going library diving at an ungodly hour? Or were these just travelers of sorts that happened to work together? It was hard to know...

Had the two met before?
Well, no, but it wasn't as if the 'Moonstone Travelers' were a very big team, and news of someone like Shade joining the ranks - even if tentatively - spread quickly about the group. Unlike some, Denryu didn't even bat an eye at the odd-looking shade, giving him perhaps only a bare wave or a tiny nod upon entering the room. It also didn't take long for Denryu to pull out a few books, and set up on his own table off to the side.
"Hm?" Raider looked up from his own tome, as the shadow spoke up, reading the open page of the book upside-down. "General, what do you think?"
"Hm." Well, he hadn't really settle down to work yet - the General would step up, and flip through a few pages. "Informative, but off point. Unfortunately, what I'm looking for is a bit more extreme on the 'administrative' side of things. Trailmon maps, and travel records."
That said, the General did pick up a bit on what Shade was saying, the General returning a shrug. "I'm a math person. Often, the complicated words are needed for the person 'figuring out' the information, but when explaining it to anyone else, its worth keeping it simple. For example, 'the barometric pressure is abnormally high in Termninus, which is going to push a warm front out to the west' is what I need to know to tell you 'it will rain in Whitewater tomorrow.'"
Past that, Denryu would return to his work - and the Knightmon would speak up. "You're a charitable one, aren't you? Guess Toki draws in all sorts here. Name's 'Raider'. I take it you're 'Shade'?"

”....Maps are over there in the map section and travel records… are in records. Eh… over there?”
Shade gestured to the various areas; he had browsed through some of the sections so he had a general understanding of how this place was organized. The wraith would flick it’s ears a few times and stare at the general. Glancing between the two of them for a moment before giving a small shrug.
”Well if that is what human wants to know then that is he will find here. Probably.”
Shade blinked a few times more when the knightmon spoke up; he was charitable? Hardly so; he just simply had a bit of a craving to know more about the world now that he wasn’t focused on hunting all the time. He’d rub at the back of his head and slowly nod.
”Shade is shade. Toki found shade out in the forest trying to make another home; but now this is shade’s home. Nice to meet you Raider.”
In this sort of meeting it was custom to shake hands right? The wraith would extend their arm in such a way to do so; even if it looked stiff and awkward. Shade glanced at the general. Flicking his ears to sort of keep track of the both of them. He didn’t particularly understand why they really were here. Other than the fact they wanted information and… maps and… records.
”Are… you two part of the travelers? Shade has only met toki so far but he is sure that there are more than just… well toki and shade. And makoto shade guesses. Though Shade doesn’t know if they decided to join or not.”
To be honest there was a lot that the wraith didn’t know; and the social intricacies of this team were one of them. He didn’t know who all was in it yet but he was going to fix that eventually… maybe once he became a bit more learned and less prone to outbursts of hunger.
”Does raider raid things? What does the human do? Is he your tamer? A friend?”

"Hm."
Denryu gave a nod, taking Shade's advice into consideration, and moved towards that part of the library to continue his search. Perhaps Shade would notice that Denryu didn't have the reaction that some humans - or even Digimon - would have upon meeting a wight. There were no recoils of horror, nor second glances, nor even a tangible notion of fear from the mathematician. Depending on Shade's view, it might have been irrelevant, comforting, interesting, or even discomforting to not have any sort of reaction from the General.
Raider himself wasn't too much of a talkative Digimon himself. Flipping through the pages of his borrowed book, the Knightmon would return a nod - and a moment later, after looking up, would return that handshake. "Same. It looks like we're going to be working together in the future." This led right into the answer for the next question: "Officially, yes. Both the General and I are members of the Moonstone Travellers."
As for the last question?
"'Raider' has been known to raid things on occasion, but the circumstances have hardly allowed me to do that as of late. The 'human' there is my General - a type of tamer with multiple Digimon partners. However, my connection to him is by choice. The direct partner tied to him is a Renamon."
As the two spoke, Denryu had made his way to a separate table, laying out a large sheet of paper on the table. It didn't take long for several different records to be open and spread across both that table and the next one over - and for Denryu to start scratching away at it. He started by getting a sketch down of Dragon Valley's current geographical structure, using a ruler and a drawing compass to make sure that everything was spaced properly.
"He's also not the type to sit still. Even when we're not on a mission, the General's doing things like this. Looking for where the next 'step' is, on whatever project or case he's working on. Though I have to say, I wonder what exactly he's trying to find today..."

Shade managed to flash a small but somewhat toothy smile to Denryu before they moved towards the part of the library he had pointed out. The wraith like wolf tilted his head to one side as the knightmon looked through the book that shade had been reading through. It was a smattering of older information. Probably far too old to be of any real use to current day affairs. The wraith looked pleased that the handshake went well; giving a firm motion once or twice before retracting his hand.
”Shade is not sure what he would be working on with Raider or general.”
Shade admitted he didn’t know what he was going to do in general; he was unsure. With his home being taken by the red and the rest of the world seemingly against him… It was difficult for him to really plan ahead. Day by day seemed the best and even then it was… less stressful than his last environment. But hearing that these two were a part of the moonstone travellers? It made the mon smile slightly.
”A general. Shade has never heard of that before. It is… odd to hear that he has multiple different partners. Is this renamon different than Makoto?”
He’d tilt his head to one side; staring up at the armored knight; unsure of the answer. He had only met one renamon and that was her. The others always fled and were too fast for him to deal with even as a champion level back in the day. Seeing the general come back shade leaned a bit to see what he was doing.
”Shade knows the feeling. Had to do the same thing when he was living in the wilds. Well… why not ask the general what he is doing and what the ‘project’ is this time around?”
Shade would stand up, moving over to look at what the general was doing. His face was a light with curiosity and he’d shift so that he wasn’t blocking any light from the general’s work. For being such a wild mon he was awfully considerate of those around him…
”What is general doing?”
