It was a late and rather humid, summer’s evening when Miu met her very first, “wild one”.
The young blue-haired girl was walking home, Levi in her arms as usual.
All was silent except for the dull sound of street lamps flickering. Maybe, the odd television from houses with their windows open or the whistle of an air-conditioning unit whirring. Otherwise, it was quiet and peaceful. Even the hums of the cicada has dimmed and vanished.
“Levi hungwy. Same-same!” the little shark muttered.
Looking up at Miu with large, kind yellow eyes. Her long tail moving from left to right, gently as they walked.
“I know. We’re almost home. Then, I’ll make you that curry you really liked. Or fish? I think there was some left.” Miu said, in a low voice.
“Boff! Boff!” Levi said.
They had been together about a month now. Or rather, it had been about a month since that night at the aquarium where it all went very wrong but also very well. In a month, she had learned a lot about the creatures, known as Digimon. But, more importantly, how her own Digimon, currently in her In-Training form acted and in this case spoke.
Levi was quite a gluttonous Digimon. She wasn’t sure if this was normal. Technically, she wasn’t exactly sure what to feed them. But, she was still doing her best with it all. In this case, Levi wanted both of the food items that she had suggested.
Miu giggled. “You can’t have both. You’ll be as big as one of those houses.”
She pointed a finger at the nearby house. The air-conditioning unit whirring happily from the outside wall, pumping a supply of cold air into the house.
“Now, that. That is what we need,” Miu mused. “Maybe if I didn’t have to feed you so much. I’d be able to afford one.” Part joking but also part serious.
“L-Levi?”
The little shark had stiffened in her hands. The scaled body seemed to tighten and the wide yellow eyes grew, a slitted line of black.
“Levi. Levi smells not fren. Wild one.”
She was now sniffing the air as if trying to search for something.
“Danger.”
“What do you mean?”
Miu tilted her head, slightly confused.
“A wild one?”
Before Miu could stop her, Levi jumped down from Miu’s arm and darted down a side street, on all fours. Miu followed behind, in chase.
