As part of their attempts to resolve her condition, the twins had suggested Talia visit the seaside, claiming that characters in mediums did it when they wanted a break from stress. So after packing lunches, sunscreen and other necessities, the three of them had headed out for the day on Dorugreymon’s back towards the coast.
So much for relaxing! There were a lot of people here, as in as many humans as there were digimon. It was a bit of an error on the twins' part, as they’d sort of neglected to consider how popular seasides tended to be. No matter though, Talia would simply sit under their umbrella with the latest edition of whatever manga she was into. “Come and have fun with us Talia!” Simba loudly attempted to encourage some form of participation towards his human but was quickly shushed by his sister. “Don’t push, she’ll come when she’s ready. The more you force it, the slower it’ll happen.” They just had to wait for her like a shy cat who was getting used to its new home by hiding under a bed.
It wasn’t that she didn’t like other humans, she just didn’t really comfortable being uber close or talking to any that weren’t Sasha or Amelie, hence the sudden reserved attitude. Declining the twins’ repeated offers to swim with them, she delved herself into the latest version of Kaguya-sama, occasionally glancing at the duo padding in the sea as a mother would watch her children do fun pool tricks. Speaking of, Tohru had another idea for how to cheer her up. She swam to the bottom of the water and dug in the sand with the claw-like mechanisms on the ends of her ear, digging for a trinket, be it a shell, a gemstone, anything unique.
Something shiny in the sand eventually caught her eye. It was a piece of sea glass, an emerald green oblong shaped piece. This would be the perfect thing to share!
“What’s that?” Simba asked when his sister finally came up for air, noting the thing in her ear claw, which she pulled away from him. “You’ll see in a minute.” She didn’t need him to go accidentally breaking it on her or setting it on fire, though that was kind of difficult for him to do in the water for some reason. “Let me touch it!” The dragon did not like things to be kept from him, especially when he felt it was in the context of him being treated like a child.
He followed his sister out of the water, watching as she flashed the shiny gem at Talia, whose typically over glazed eyes suddenly lit up. He suddenly felt a bit jealous that he hadn’t thought of such a thing, mentally kicking himself before going over to nuzzle the girl, who proceeded to pat his head and scoop him under his front legs, holding him as one would hold a baby. She gave him a lit up smile as if to tell him that she wanted badly to be able to say how much she appreciated him. She did a similar gesture with Tohru after, kissing her on top of the forehead in a motherly way, placing the gift in her small side bag.
“Free juice boxes! Just as a special deal for today! All drinks, on the house, that’s right, just today!”
Their moments of affection were interrupted by a burly voice which they looked over to see belonged to a Ganemon behind a stand. The coin shaped digimon was not wearing his usual tophat but a pair of sunglasses as if to blend with the beach crowd. Joining him was a Gizamon holding up an advertisement for the shop, where the moustached coin was waving around some drinks from the cooler. The whole thing smelled of bait and switch but the three were too hot and thirsty to take that into consideration right now.
“Want some juice Talia?” The human nodded and the twins bounded off to the stand. “Three juiceboxes please!” The coin creature's smile was huge as he said, “coming right up!” and handed them over, only for said smile to turn into a smirk once their backs were turned. He motioned to the Gizamon, who quickly dropped his sign and jumped in front of the twins with a snarl. “HEY, you have to PAY for those!” Having fought much worse than this meager rookie, neither twin seemed intimidated by the marine digimon’s teeth. “Put a sock in it, Charlie Tuna. These were advertised as free.” “Yeah! You’re not getting a digidollar out of us...that we don’t have - oops.” Oh how Tohru could strangle him right now.
“Well, about that.”
They turned around to the voice of the Ganemon again, whose attire had changed to that of his usual top hat. “Unfortunately, the free promotion ended right when you got to the stand, so therefore, little bunny, your stuff wasn’t free. Now pay up!” She scoffed. “Or what?” The digimon leaped from behind the counter, cornering them with the Gizamon. “You’ll both pay in other ways of course, like with a good beating of course to teach you the value of a dollar - hm?”
The Ganemon had felt a...deep presence next to him and immediately regretted with every fiber of his medal greedy being looking up at said existence.
Talia's scowl at him was so intense that it seemed to burn into the very depths of the Ganemon's greedy evil soul like a fresh container of Comet eat away at soap scum on a dirty bathtub. Those sharp shiny purple eyes burned with a fury that seemed to reflect every crime back at him, a rewind of every scam he had pulled, every poor digimon who had fallen victim to his tricks. Assuming the digimon had made this human attempt to some kind of curse on him, the Ganemon simply squeaked and ran away, leaving his minion very confused running after him. "Boss!"
The twins cheered and helped themselves to the juiceboxes the scumbag had left. Talia had observed the whole thing from the beginning, having had a bad feeling about that salesman but of course unable to verbally express it to the twins. Upon seeing his behavior, she knew she had to find a way to teach him a lesson about messing with those she cared about. She had figured if she couldn't yell at him she could just...scowl at him to death? That always seemed to work for big sister Sasha and Emil when she wanted him to do something!
While the twins enjoyed their snack, Talia noticed another shopkeeper on the beach, this one with a much different vibe than that coin digimon. For some reason, the human was inclined to offer them a juicebox. Perhaps she was just curious, perhaps she somehow...reminded her of someone.
