The ride back to his condo was relatively short, or at the very least it felt that way to Colin as he was deeply lost in thought, having put in his headphones and started listening to one of his playlists, Music to question reality to. He was thoroughly shaken by the events of the night. Even if he took it all at face value, what were the implications? If digital creatures could exist and be fully sentient, did they have souls? What were they made of? Could there theoretically be a Digimon constructed out of his internet search history as a teenage? Oh, gods he hoped not.
In what felt like a much shorter time then usual he was deposited at the front of his building, after paying and tipping generously he entered his building, pausing only to check his mail before making his way to his apartment on the 7th floor. Quickly he made his way inside as it was getting quite late now. He kicked off his shoes and shuffled inside with a large yawn. Dragging his feet he lurched into his bedroom, dropping his bag of goodies on a chair and gently laying his digiegg onto one of the pillows of his bed.
Colin was halfway through getting changed into his silk pajamas when there was a strange clicking noise. Colin turned and saw a large crack making its way across the egg. Colin panicked for a moment thinking he had done something wrong, but then he remembered how eggs work. Wearing only the silk bottoms he leapt toward the bed and gingerly crouched down getting his face close to the egg.
The cracks spread and grew as Colin looked on in wonder. Eventually the egg seemed to burst into light particles that spread around the room like a sparkler before fading out leaving only a small black blob with cute pointy ears and moist shiny yellow eyes staring up at Colin. The new tamer and partner stared at each other with a certain air of uncertainty at first, but before too long Colin moved his hand forward and slowly held it out for the Digimon to interact with. Almost immediately the Digimon began rubbing its temple against the hand and Colin picked it up slowly pulling it in against his chest where it nuzzled happily making soft cooing noises. “Hey there, boyo.” Said the man as he started to stroke the Digimon happily a calmness coming over him now.
After a few minutes of calming reassurances and bonding Colin sat on the edge of his bed and picked up his D3 from the bedside table. He pressed a few buttons experimentally and quickly a soft white scanner of some kind went over the newly born Digimon who blinked and shuddered shying away from the bright light. The words ‘Botamon, it’s smoll’ came up on screen and Colin blinked, “Guess you’re a Botamon, Boyo.” Said Colin leaning in to give the Digimon a kiss on the forehead which seemed to calm it down.
Colin turned off the lights and crawled under the covers of his bed, with the Botamon resting against his chest. It didn’t take long for the pair to fall asleep, Colin and Botamon breathing deeply, a soft pink bubble on the Botamon’s mouth slowly expanding and contracting as it slept.
“Woo! Pops is up pops is up!” it chanted as it bounced on top of the man’s head. Colin took a few seconds for himself to adjust to this latest shift in reality before mumbling, “Good morning, Boyo.” The Digimon laughed giddily and jumped off Colin and began rolling around the room again once more sending cans crashing everywhere. “I digivolved into Pagumon!” exclaimed Boyo as he stuck his tongue out and closed his eyes. “So you did, very excellent, how does it feel?” Asked Colin sitting up and looking at the hyperactive ball of fluff. The digmon bounced high up then slowly fell back down while spinning. “Like my brain is going whoooosh!” Colin looked at the empty cans of energy drink then back at the Digimon “I don’t think that’s entirely due to you digivolving, Boyo,” he suggested but was only met with a mad cackle.
Colin went to grab his digivice but noticed something else sitting next to it, a gray electronic device that kind of reminded him of the PlayStation 1. He picked it up and flipped the screen open, it was a computer device of some kind. He closed it and put it to the side, he’d deal with that later. “I need to send some emails but then we’re gonna get ready for our trip to the digiworld, okay boyo?” Colin was answered by a gleeful battlecry without words. He decided that was probably a positive response. He chuckled to himself and got up to get his laptop to make his excuses at work.

Earlier then Colin would necessarily have liked he was woken up by a loud ruckus of crashing and the spontaneous eruption of loud music. He opened his eyes and felt for Botamon but there was nothing there. This was quickly explained by a larger gray furry ball with large puffy ears rolling around his room tossing around empty energy drink cans and generally dancing to the music that was playing from Colin’s bedside radio. Colin slammed his hand down on the radio and lowered the music and the mischievous Digimon floated up onto the bed and started bouncing in a completely uncalled for hyperactive manner.
“Woo! Pops is up pops is up!” it chanted as it bounced on top of the man’s head.
