"I'll have to disagree with you on that point then Harmony. Because standing up for the greater good even when no one else can or will is the exist definition of a "hero type". You don't need to let things get as out of hand as my dad does in order to be honest when you say that you're a good person. Doing the best you can is good enough." Marigold said, evidently getting a bit of wisdom beyond her years on that subject from her father. it only made sense since the two of them would obviously have these sort of thoughts in mind more often than most other people. That was the catch with vigilantes, the only person that could keep the two of them from crossing the line was each other.
Marigold bolted out of her seat watching her father crumple, something flashing past the gaze of her eyes a mix of familial fear and concern that both siblings would probably know very well from one another. Zack was quick to put her fears to rest however.
"I'm fine, I'm fine. Don't start planning my funeral just yet." he said like an elderly family member rankling at the constant smother concern of the people around him. "Scar's just a little tender that's all, Blackjack. No harm done, none at all. See?" he said, demonstrating his fine condition by doing a series of backflip handstands that cascaded into one another. "I'm still in fighting shape."

"I keep forgetting heros come in all kinds even if they don't consider themselves as such." Harmony said with a slight smile before she continued "Even Blackjack and I, I suppose. Yet since we are just kids with a knack for playing cards we have been using that talent to get money to live off of. We haven't exactly spent time going out of our way to help others but have met four separate heroes since we began living on our own."
When Marigold bolted up Harmony floated after her reaching brother who was obviously freaked out. Blackjack only calmed down when Zack showed how fine he was by executing a series of backflip handstands. "I'm glad that I didn't really hurt you but I guess it will be some time before that tenderness fades, huh?" Blackjack said the card over his head still drooping a bit as he looked sorry for what he did still.

"Who knows, if you guys are really that good at being card sharks you might have a future of the Robin Hood type. Robbing from the rich and giving to the poor, you know? I mean there's a reason that smoky gambling dens are associated with all kinds of nasty crime. You guys could go in, clean house, ruin a criminal enterprise and give anything extra to those in need before lunch. Just a thought." Marigold said, shrugging as she tossed the idea out to Harmony. Every skill can be used to make the world a better place, even if it was just a hand of cards.
"Oh don't pout over me Blackjack, you're just gonna make me feel bad for overreacting." he said, patting and ruffling the head of the card carrying digimon, giving him a smile that would hopefully show that he really was alright. No permanent harm done. "We all get stung sometimes, I just got a real big one."

Harmony looked as if she was giving Marigold's words some thought her card softly twitching as she did so before she then said "Hmm, robbing from the rich and giving to the poor as a method to ruin criminals. I like it and since Blackjack is a better gambler than me this could work out when we are a bit stronger. Not all criminal organizations are made up only of rookies after all. This Robin Hood guy must of been from a human story. Might have to look into some human media as well so human things are a bit less confusing for us."
Blackjack smiled as Zack rubbed his head and then said "Yeah but you didn't just get stung you got impaled. That is something that doesn't happen to everyone and sometimes not even digimon survive impalement." Blackjack shuddered faintly at some of the stories he had heard while he and his sister were hiding waiting for stronger digimon to move on. At least now the siblings weren't fairly helpless any more.

"Oh are we talking about Robin Hood?" Zack said, eyes instantly lighting up as the passion in his soul was put to the source of it's crackling fires. Marigold simply rolled her eyes and gestured to her father as he sat down and went into a condescend version of the story. Robin of Loxley, his time in the crusades, coming home to his destroyed manor, the evil Sherriff of Nottingham and the usurper Prince John, his Merry Men, the lovely Maid Marian and of course his mission to rob from the rich and give to the poor.
"My dad knows all the best stories." Marigold said, leaning forward with her chin propped up against her front legs. Even as she grew older she couldn't help but get at least a little bit enchanted by the way her father told the stories of the heroic legends, the bravado, the romance, the adventure, the danger. They were both passionate if nothing else.

The twins floated where they were fascinated by the condensed tale of Robin Hood taking in every word. They seemed just as enchanted as Marigold. "Wow this sheriff was dreadful by overtaxing his people when he should of been protecting them. Glad he got what was coming to him for his greed." Blackjack said when Zack finished speaking and both twins were amazed humans came up with such a tale of heroism making the pair more curious of human media then before.
"It is indeed a good story and this Robin of Loxley sure was clever as well as brave to be able to pull all those feats off." Harmony said the look of enchantment had still not left her or her brother's eyes. "This story sounds too amazing to have been exclusively word of mouth. It had to have been written down somewhere like in a book or something."

"Actually no, well, at least not for a long, long time after it was made." Zack said, defaulting back to his English literature education taking on the air of a kindly teacher leading his pupils along as he told them the story OF the story and how it was made the way it is. "Most people in the human world, of the longest time, weren't educated enough to read or write. Folk stories, like the story of Robin Hood and his Merry Men, had to be passed down from one person to the next in a neverending chain of oral performance." he said, folding his hands over one another again and again in order to show visually sort of what he meant. "There's hundreds of versions of it written down now, surely, the version I just told you is one I got from a book, absoulutley. But for the majority of the time the story has existed it was carried on exactly how I carried it to you. Telling it over food and drink."

"So a long time ago in the Human World most didn't read or write. How odd." Blackjack said looking confused at that revelation.
"Perhaps during those years other things were going on that higher education wasn't as practical as it is for them now. Though judging by their creativity with the Robin Hood story, humans were still pretty smart. Makes me wonder if digimon still spent time with them even back then." Harmony said trying to picture the humans in those old times.
"If digimon did interact with humans back then, Harmony, it was likely that they wouldn't understand the concept of digital life and likely had different names for digimon depending on culture. So it was likely there was little interaction between the two worlds back then." Blackjack said with wisdom that even surprised him.
"Why Blackjack, who knew you had such wisdom hidden away."
"I guess I picked up a little from you in the months since we hatched, huh big sister?" Blackjack said with a roguish grin returning.

"Food doesn't just grow on trees in the human world...well, it does, obviously but not enough of it and not readily available enough to feed entire towns and cities or even just communities. People had to spend most of their time farming, raising animals, collecting milk or honey or eggs. For the majority of the history humans know about, Ninety-Nine percent of all people had to spend most of their time doing the things we have machines for now, by hand. Planting seeds, plowing fields, driving cattle, shearing sheep." he said, getting into something of a history lesson. he hoped he wasn't lecturing but it was something that it might be good for the Digimon to know. In many ways the digital world was crueler and more dangerous than the human world, surely. but in other ways it was much kinder and more generous too. "So, when the work for the day was done, and the sun had set, they'd do the only things they could do. They'd sing songs, they'd dance, they'd tell stories that their fathers and their fathers' fathers had told them. That's the beauty of life isn't it? People find a way to go on."

"Sounds like that humans were not only creative even back then but were very adaptive too if they were able to supplement their potentially limited food supply by farming and raising animals so they didn't have to go as far to hunt. Some digimon farm but learn fairly young how to hunt and forage if they don't become farmers. So I guess it makes sense why it isn't uncommon for digimon not to stay in one place for long unlike humans." Blackjack said after he and Harmony had been listening to Zack explain human history for awhile.
"Judging by what you said, Zack, it sounds like humans used to be hunters and gatherers but took up farming so they didn't have to travel as far. Sounds like another way humans and digimon are similar even though digimon still tend to forage for food when they don't live in towns. Then there is the concept of trading and selling their products that the humans also likely did to spread their products to further locations. That's how humans around the world seem to have certain fruits not native to certain lands based on what little Blackjack and I know." Harmony said.

"Everything is connected, no matter what. For all the faults of settling down to farm and blow the last, and trust me, we could get into the debate of agriculture versus hunter gather societies for years because GOD knows that human academics have..." he said, shaking his head and waving his hands to ward off the dry and academic mudslinging he had heard coming from every side of the argument, not to mention the whole "anarcho-primitivist" semi-meme that floated around on the internet. "In the end it's the only reason that enough people had enough time to become something other than hunters and foragers. A world without musicians, artists, builders, bakers, those supported by the excess food grown and harvested by farmers and producers. I don't know that I would want to live in that world. Even if it was happier in a primitive, animal sort of way. You never see an ape slaving away at a desk job but you also never see an ape painting works of true art. Not yet anyway." He said.
Marigold's mind wandered, taking sort of the wrong image from his speech as she imagined an ape in a suit and tie, typing away at his little beige desk computer. Complaining about banana stocks and fruit based company files. She giggled to herself at it.

"Being able to stay in one place has some advantages as they always have a regular source of food." Harmony said watching as Zack was trying to wave off something that seemed to be in his mind. Since she and Blackjack weren't mind readers it would be a mystery for the twins though neither were bothered by it one bit.
"Yeah but one disadvantage I can see is not being willing to explore out of the safety of an area one knows to be fairly safe. I myself enjoy the concept of adventure and exploration despite not always knowing where and when my next meal would be." Blackjack said as it was obvious since they were barely hatched that staying in one place for extended times wasn't for him or his sister.
Harmony glanced over at Marigold who seemed to be giggling to herself from the concept of an ape in the Human World having a desk job before she said "I keep forgetting that in the Human World apes, though still smart, do not work in offices or do many other jobs humans do. While in the Digital World digimon like Apemon and Gorillamon may occasionally be seen running shops or having various other jobs."

The sheer fact of the words. "Apes do not work in offices or do many other jobs humans do." Only made the idea in Marigold's head all the stronger, imagining gorillas and chimps and spider monkeys in little button downs and suit coats. She wasn't able to hold it back any more, throwing her head back and laughing hysterically.
"Stop! Stop! Make it...*wheeze* STOP!" She said, pounding the table in front of her as the images flashed behind her eyes and she cackled herself right down off of her seat and into the sand below.
"...You know I would worry about where she got such a terrible sense of humor from if I didn't already know that the only possible person to blame for ALL of her weird personality issues is me." he said, rolling his eyes to the twins as his only daughter cackled herself breathless at the immature and absurd sight gag she had imagined for herself.
"Ok...*pant pant* O-K...I'm..hehe...I think I'm good..." She said, sinking the claws at the front of her legs into the table and physically pulling herself back into her seat, wiping away tears from the underside of her massive, sparkling eyes, shoulders still shaking slightly.

Harmony's words 'Apes, though still smart, do not work in offices or do many other jobs humans do.' made Blackjack snort in amusement as he tried to picture Human World apes with only what little reference he and his sister had from passing humans. Yet when Marigold burst out laughing it seemed that Blackjack was a lost cause as he tumbled to the ground in laughter as if Marigold's amusement was contagious somehow. Harmony shook her head at the street smart gambler that was her brother as she always thought he was incorrigible and even odd at times. This was only more proof of that as a concept.
"Boy do I understand that concept. Only in my case, I worry that I'd pick up some of Blackjack's worst traits. A strange sense of humor is not that bad by comparison, Zack." Harmony said looking at her laughing brother than at Marigold. It seemed both of them had recovered from their giggles.
When Harmony glanced back at her brother he was looking up at her with a roguish grin before he said "Aww, come on Harmony. I may be incorrigible, as you put it, but I'm not that bad." The roguish grin made Harmony sigh in exasperation.

Zack couldn't help but smile at Marigold as she lifted herself back into her seat. He reached down, running his hand over the top of her head, leaning down and placing a kiss on it. She grumbled at that, still the child who thought her parent's affections would somehow lose her credibility with her peers. He did it anyway, embarrassing her was part of the fun.
"I suppose it's better that we've given them the chance to laugh at all, hmm?" He said, speaking in response to Harmony. He meant more than one thing by that but most of all he meant that he was proud of himself for giving Marigold the kind of life and security where she could laugh at the silly, the impractical and the ridiculous. "It can be such a hard world sometimes. Why shouldn't they laugh, why shouldn't we all? Maybe it's the only way any of us can cope. Well, other than going as crazy as the world seemingly requires. You can laugh against the world, sometimes you laugh just to keep from crying." He let out a smaller, warmer smile at that. He would never be used to situations like Blackjack and Harmony, two young digimon he wanted nothing more than hold close and protect. Just out and about in this world of harshness and monsters.
