MPC Name: The Mysterious Magical Artifact MPC Number: 96AReward Requested: Bits The Great Moving Library. A large mobile base with various means to facilitate research. The place attracts various intellectual minds gathered for the pursuit of knowledge. Wandering the halls today was a pair of young rookie digimon. One was a scarless Gumdramon with amber eyes named Kshin and the other was his traveling companion and friend Grace who was a Gammamon. Grace was, as always peppy and brimming with energy but knew she had to be quiet so as not to disturb others doing research in the various rooms. Turning the corner the duo made their way into a room filled with various books on the subject of magic from humble stage magic to things like tomes that spoke of magical artifacts. Walking along looking at the many shelves Kshin felt something among the books. Following the feeling he spotted a book with a red cover with ornate gold highlights and the book itself looked very ancient. Placing one of his paws on the spine of the book there was no mistaking what this felt like. The book itself was brimming with magical energies. Though he had no magic himself, his experience being around Mandrake and his adoptive grandfather Theron gave him the ability to sense magic even if he couldn't use it in any other form but his armor form of Sorcerimon. "What is it, Kshin?" Grace quietly asked noticing her friend had seemed to zone out when he spotted the book he was touching. Snapping out of his trance Kshin took the book off the shelf and showed it to Grace before he said "I found this old book and it seems to be some kind of ancient magic book."
"Are you certain, Kshin?" Grace asked as she took in the book's appearance before gently touching it. "I'm sure. I can feel the magic energies." Kshin said letting Grace take hold of the book to give it a better look. "I guess having an adoptive father like Mandrake and an adoptive grandfather like Theron has allowed you some advantages on the subject of magic."
"It also doesn't hurt that I was trained to sense magic somewhat the last time I was around Grandpa Theron. Though I'm still can't read magic in those with weak magic but this book is just rolling in it. Anyone with much better magic training would be drawn to this book like a magnet theoretically." Kshin said as Grace looked over the book some more. Grace then casually opened the mysterious book and looked at the pages with a confused look on her face. "Uh, Kshin."
"What is it, Grace?" "If this book is magic then how come it is blank?"
"Wait, what?" Kshin asked as he looked at the open book in Grace's paws and sure enough the pages were blank. "The book is magic so maybe there is some secret to using it. Perhaps we should check this book out to look into it some more."
After going to the librarian, who was a Greymon, they showed the book and the Greymon found out such a book had never belonged to the library so the reason for the book being there was unknown. Both friends left the library with the book. As they began walking through the Network Plains, Kshin was holding the book in his arms wondering what their next move should be. Word Count: 564/1000

"Why don't we go to see Theron about the book? He might be able to figure out how it works." Grace said after the two walked in silence for awhile.
Kshin looked up from the book and faced Grace before he said "That's a great idea! It will take about a week by Trailmon to get to Grandpa Theron but it will be worth it to figure this book out." Both young digimon now had some pep in their step as they began walking towards the nearest Trailmon station and at the pace they were going the Gumdramon and Gammamon would be getting there in no more than a couple hours at most.
A couple hours later the two friends made it to the station and felt excited to see a Trailmon Mole parked in the station and after learning where it was going they realized the Trailmon was eventually heading to The Village of Magic in which was a mostly unknown village inhabited by magicians in the Eastern Timberlands. Kshin tightened his grip on the mysterious magical book he and Grace found mere hours ago as the two of them boarded Trailmon waiting for the digimon to take off.
Eventually Trailmon Mole closed its doors and began rolling down the tracks heading onward. Sure it would take Kshin and Grace a week to arrive at their destination but the excitement from the pair did not fade for hours. Long after it became night both young reptile digimon finally wore themselves out and began laying across the seats using each other for pillows. If someone was there it would of looked cute to see the two of them sound asleep. However, Kshin did not release his grip on the book hugging it in his arms tightly to his chest. This meant to pry it from the rookie digimon's paws it would definitely wake the youngster from his deep sleep.
Early the next morning Kshin felt the magic within the book rising and his amber eyes slid open. He then jerked himself up the sudden motion waking Grace causing the Gammamon to rub her eyes tiredly before she, in a caveman like grunt, mumbled "What's the deal, Kshin? Why are we up this early?"
Looking at his groggy friend but not put off by her mumbling, said "It's the book. The magic feels stronger."
These words seemed to have snapped the Gammamon to life as she rose to a fully alert state and with a surprised tone, said "Really? Maybe something will happen if you open it."
Kshin noticed how Grace's eyes were no longer sleepy but twinkling with excitement. Figuring there would be no harm the young Gumdramon opened the magical book and on the pages was the image of a small town. Both Kshin and Grace gaped in shock while Kshin gently ran one of his paws over the book as if the image would fade. When it didn't it was proof enough that the two of them weren't seeing things but what did the image mean?

Grace then lifted her head looking out of the window with her mouth agape before she began gently elbowing Kshin. "Kshin, look outside. There is a town that looks just like the one shown in the book."
Kshin looked up and sure enough there was a town the Trailmon was approaching that looked exactly like the one that was in the book. Confused Kshin looked down at the book and the image started to fade from sight until the page was blank once again. "Hey, Grace. The pages are all blank again." Kshin said as he began leafing through the pages as Grace watched and sure enough they were completely blank.
"Could the book be wanting us to go to this town for some reason?" Grace said with her face scrunched in confusion.
"I don't know. So do you want to check the town out before we catch the next Trailmon to Grandpa Theron's?" Kshin asked receiving an excited nod so no words had to be further said. Was the book guiding them here for some reason? Though they two friends were unsure the curiosity was pulling at them. As Trailmon(Mole) came to a stop and the doors opened Kshin, with a tight grip on the closed book, and Grace got up disembarking from the Trailmon heading away from the station.
As the young ones looked around they noticed the townspeople seemed nervous and wary of the two of them but this seemed beyond just being cautious of strangers which made the pair concerned. Most of the digimon in town were of the rookie level with the few champion digimon seeming to be covered in various injuries. What had been happening here?
Somehow the two friends found an inn that was quite welcoming but were warned not to leave the hotel at night for their own safety. Why was this anyway? As night fell on the town Kshin was sitting on one of the two beds with the book opened as if hoping an answer would reveal itself while Grace was in the bathroom. As Grace came out the book seemed to shimmer before the image of a boney club and a shadow with three horns poking out of it was seen. At Kshin's confused face Grace bounded over and leaned over her Gumdramon friend's shoulder and asked "Hey, Kshin. What's up?"
Hoping the image wouldn't fade he held the book up to Grace as he said "An image just appeared on the pages that I don't understand. Look."
Grace did so taking in the image and said "The club could mean an Ogremon or another digimon like it. As for the horned shadow thing, I don't know. I see why you're confused."
Setting the book back on his lap Kshin leafed through the pages but nothing else appeared to make things clearer. It was as if the book was only giving some guidance but to what purpose was as if yet unclear to the young dragon. Maybe it had to do with this town and the earlier warning not to go out at night.

A sudden loud thud caused both Kshin and Grace to jump in surprise with Kshin closing the book and setting it on the bed before hopping to his feet. Grace, meanwhile, grabbed the camera she wore around her neck before setting on the bed next to the book. This was followed by more crashing and terrified screaming. So this is why they were warned to not go out at night. Not wanting to stand by and do nothing the two left their room heading out of the hotel not noticing the one running the front desk was tucked behind it shivering in fear from the noise.
Kshin and Grace made their way outside following the screams and crashing sounds seeing a frightened Tentomon zip by regretting slipping outside. Soon the cause of the crashing noise revealed itself to Kshin and Grace in the form of an Ogremon that was bashing things simply destroying things for the sake of it. Running to meet the champion digimon as it swung its boney club knocking over a trash can. "Hey! Knock it off!" Kshin snarled causing the Ogremon to whip around staring into the amber eyes of the unscarred Gumdramon before also seeing a Gammamon ready for battle. The stare lasted mere seconds before Ogremon began clutching its gut laughing apparently finding the sight of two rookies challenging it.
"Seriously. Two kids are challenging me? I thought the digimon of this town had no spine." Ogremon said with a voice filled with amusement not at all threatened by Kshin and Grace.
"We are not from this town but we won't stand by and do nothing while you terrorize its citizens either." Kshin growled narrowing his eyes.
Ogremon laughed before it said "Oh really. What are you going to do beg and cry for me to go away."
"Far from it." Kshin growled before he said "Digi Armor Energize!" Kshin began glowing with an icy blue light as he said "Gumdramon armor digivolve to...Sorcerimon!"
Ogremon blinked at the sight of a small dragon armor digivolving into a barely bigger humanoid wizard staring the ogre down with his amber eyes and tightening the grip on his staff. "Let's see if brain really beats brawn." Kshin said in a taunting tone as Ogremon growled leaping at him intending to smash Kshin's head in. Yet Kshin proved to be ready as he swung his staff blocking the flurry of the Ogremon's blows. This less than jolly green giant was stronger than Kshin thought as parrying the blows were difficult at best and one of the Ogremon's wild swings knocked the staff out of Kshin's hands. Alright Kshin was ready for plan B so he could have time to retrieve his staff. Taking a karate fighting stance he stood bracing himself.
Ogremon began laughing again before it said "Ooh a karate Sorcerimon. I have to admit that's new. Let's see how tough you really are kid." Ogremon than charged.
Grace was no longer willing to stand there and watched and lowered her head pointing her horns at Ogremon. Her horns began growing dark before she leapt at Ogremon as she said "Horn Attack!"
Ogremon heard Grace and spun around surprisingly gracefully before clocking Grace in the head with his boney club sending the Gammamon a good ten feet away from Kshin and Ogremon and appeared to be dazed from the blow. Kshin by this point had retrieved his staff and aimed it at Ogremon. "Crystal Barrage!" Kshin said as icy shards formed around him before flying out at Ogremon.
"Hah! Nice try kid! Pummel Whack!" Ogremon's fists began glowing as the power flowed into his club before it smashed away the shards with reflexes that shocked Kshin.
Then Ogremon charged again causing Kshin to spin his staff as he said "Thunder Break!" While his staff twirled lightning came from the sky and his staff transformed into a shield to absorb the force of Ogremon's blow. Then Ogremon charged power into his fist bringing it down once again upon Kshin's shield the second attack shattering the shield and the energy transformed back into Kshin's staff. Before Kshin could so much as counter he felt the force of Ogremon's fist connect with his cheek sending him flying backwards stunned.
As Ogremon closed in on Kshin to finish him off a growl was heard causing both the Ogremon and Sorcerimon to look in the direction Grace was laying and they saw a shadowy flame enveloping her and gaped in shock. Kshin noticed this was like in the book but before he could say anything the flames enveloping Grace increased before she said "Gammamon digivolve to....." As her form changed the flames began to become less frightful red and orangish hues as she then said "BetelGammamon!"
Grace glared at Ogremon staring the green digimon down and said "I've had enough of you. You can either leave or I'll drag you out. Doesn't matter to me." Dark energy was channeled into her hands before it formed into a pair of twin swords. "Let's see how you do with even odds. Midnight Blades!" She then leapt at Ogremon and Ogremon leapt to meet her head on. Big mistake it seemed as the ogre clumsily swung his club only for Grace to parry with one of her swords and slice up the club into pieces with the other before springing off of Ogremon with a jumping kick as an intense ball of red energy formed over her head before she then said "Prepare to burn. Rain of the Red Sun!" The energy from the ball fired out like a laser catching Ogremon in the chest sending the oni backwards landing in a scorched heap.
Ogremon groaned as it sat up seeing Grace approaching with her hands covered in flames black as midnight. Eyes widening Ogremon whimpered and somehow leapt to its feet as it said "No more. I'll leave and if you let me go I won't come back to this town again."
Grace grinned evilly and scared Kshin for a moment before she tapped her chin. "Deal. If you get out of town before I catch you. I'll give you a three minute head start so better take it." To say Ogremon took the deal was an understatement as Ogremon decided to make itself scarce.
Grace then turned to Kshin and dedigivolved back into Gammamon which made Kshin relieved and the bruised Sorcerimon dedigivolved back into Gumdramon before he approached Grace and said "Wow that digivolution was something else but you had me scared for a minute that you would vaporize that creep."
"Nah." Grace said waving it off before she continued "Such a thing is not my style. You know me better than that."
Yes Kshin did no his friend but her being able to scare Ogremon was something that may come in handy later. When the pair made it back to their room Kshin looked at the book and said "I don't know why but I have a feeling this book was guiding us here today and helped give you your opportunity to digivolve Grace. Just what is this book and what is its purpose?"
As the two settled down in their beds to sleep for the night Kshin fell asleep in deep thought. When the duo was asleep the mysterious book shimmered slightly. Just what was the mystery of this book?
