Kuro sighed, his last adventure had not gone aswell as he'd hoped, while he was happy to help Angemon, he now had a slight worry of coming across that Devimon again in the future, but for now Kuro decided to explore the area a bit more before heading on his way, he figured if there was one place with an artifact in this area then surely there must be another, or at least the hope for another. So off he went into the murky marsh ahead of him. He walked for quite awhile mumbling to himself as he went and reminessing on the past, visions of time playing with this kin, memories of training with tribe slipping in. All of which ended with the look of disgust from Chief Garos, cutting into his heart.
"It doesn't matter, I don't care," Kuro snapped to himself, in a failed attempt to at pushing the rising guilt away.
"Hey little buddy, where you off to?" A sterotypical surfer dude voice echoed through the marsh.
"Who's there," Kuro asked nervously, as he whipped his head too and fro, looking for the source, taking in a quick smell only to find he had not adjusted to the area and the scent of the marsh melded togther to make his sense of smell useless. He begin to step back as fear nicked at the edges of his consciousness.
"Whoa easy little bud," the serpentine digimon said revealing himself with a splash out of the deep swamp waters that Kuro had not realized were but a few feet ahead of him, "Name's Seadramon!, Yours? I mean your a black agumon, obviously, but yeah know..."
"Right... My name is Kuro," Kuro said shly, shrinking back from the massive champion.
"Hey cool name dude," Seadramon chuckled, "Don't have one myself seein as I live alone and don't really talk to other digimon, there a few gizamon, and betamon, and honeybeemon and-"
Kuro cleared his throat.
"Oh sorry, dude, I ramble a bit, anyways there are a lot of digimon in this area, but none are great for convos my dude, major bummer, but hey it ain't all bad the swamp water is wicked fun to swim in, and sometimes I help little dude ,like yourself, cross this here swamp, to the sunken temple not far from here,"
"Why do they want in the temple?" Kuro asked hoping he had already guessed the reason.
"Oh, mostly cuz there is some artifact, most of them don't come out thou, so their probs dead," Seadramon said doing a rather odd shruging motion. As he had no shoulder. Thankfully he used his tail as a means of body language like a hand so it wasn't too hard to read him.
"I see can you tell me more?" Kuro asked some of his reservation melting away at the warmth of this digimon's personality.
"Sure thing little dude," Seadramon said coiling up as he began his story, "Long long ago, so long that even some mega's don't remeber it clearly, there was a dark queen of a large group of dark digimon in these lands, she was known as Lilithmon , not THE Lilithmon of course, but a Lilithmon none the less, she was cold and brutal to her enemys to the point of some tamers of the time calling her the second coming of Bloody Mary, some old human queen, she cunning aswell tricking many armor digimon into giving up their digimetals in exchange for proper digivoultion, in reality she simply took them and corrupted the digimon into undyingly loyal servants, of course like all tyrants she was defeated by a group of hero's long ago, and her empire fell,"
"But her digimetals were left behind?" Kuro finshed with a grin.
"Or so the story goes, no telling how many she had, or how many have been yoinked by other digimon and tamers, but the digimon that traveled to that temple seemed pretty convinced that there was one to be found there, some said that the only promblem was getting past somekind of test," Seadramon said with a hint of worry.
"I see... Would it be to much to ask for you to bring me there?" Kuro asked with a hopefull look plastered on his smiling face.
"Sure dude, could use the company, though I do hope you don't die," Seadramon shrugged.
"Its not on my to do list if that's what your asking" Kuro jested as he hopped on the waiting back of the Seadramon, "Let's go the faster the better!"
"Fins to the water my dude," Seadramon laughed as they propelled forward.
The ride was bumpy, rather uncomfortable and absolutely exhilarating! Kuro had never gone so fast in his life, and as they sped off, he wondered if this was what flying was like, he had never flown though he had heard stories of powerful greymon with the ability, from his tribe mates. It was a nice thought and Kuro begin to wish for such a day when he would fly, hoping his evolutions would grant such a power. His thoughts wandered to the humans he had encountered on his journey so far, wondering if they were doing well ,and what they were up to. Also wondering what he would do if he ended up the partner of human. He didn't know if he liked the idea or not, on one claw it would mean no more long lonely walks alone for days on end, another it would mean a loss of freedom and the new found responsibility to guard someone who might not necessarily care for him. He suddenly had the thought of being abandoned by said tamer but shook it off as the sight of a half suken temple came into view.
"Almost there little bud!" Seadramon declared happily.
"Thanks Seadramon, go ahead and drop me by the entrance, I might need your help to get back to the main roads assuming Im alive," Kuro said over the sound of water being cut by the speeding serpent.
"Sure thing little dude, but I'm not waiting more then a few hours, cuz ya know most of the people who went in there are kinda dead," Seadramon said with a eerie cheer.
Kuro nodded as the Seadramon and him reached the temple and he was plopped down next to its entrance, "Good luck bud," Seadramon said with a smile.
Kuro nodded his thanks and stepped inside, a shudder running down his spine as he headed down a flight of dimply lit stars. He stalked down the stairs warrily, looking over his shoulder every so often, expecting something to jump out and attack him. But it never did, it was silent as a grave, the darkness lazily stroking the edges of the light given off by torches that must have been burning for centuries no doubt magic in nature. It was off putting but Kuro was beginning to get used to things like this in his world, after a mere ten minitues of walking, Kuro was in a open room, with large platform raised above the center of the room, the images of greymon and the like painted on the walls of this circular place.
"There you are," Kuro muttered as he spotted a flame colored egg with a horn coming out of the top upon the pedestal like cylinder.
As he took a few steps towards the digimetal, a large figure came from seemingly nowhere and landed with a tremendous thud infront of the rookie.
"HALT, I , Sphinxmon, guardian of this purified place and of the digimetal I was entrusted, demand to know he who enters these grounds in serch of this tresure,"
Kuro was taken aback by the appearance of this digimon but recovered and answered in kind, "I am Kuro, a stray of Greymon-kin, and seeker of the power to protect the innocent, I have come to this place to claim the power of the digimetals to assist me in my journey," After uttering these words Kuro got to one knee and bowed his head to the digimon in front of him, "Noble guardian, I beg of you, grant me your blessing to take the digimetal and be on my way in peace,"
"Your words are rich as honey, and you intentions are hailed to be noble, not only that but you show humility and respect, and thus I shall let you answer this riddle, and if you can muster the courage to challenge it and succeed, I will give you the digimetal you seek," The half lion, half woman digimon said looking a bit pleased by the show of humility.
"I accept your challenge great one," Kuro said getting back to his feet his violet eyes glowing brighter as he showed his determination.
"Very well," Sphinxmon said sitting upright and breathing in before asking, "What happens when a immovable object meets an unstoppable force,"
Kuro blinked at the question, before thinking for a moment, "The unstoppable force is reflected, technically it wasn't stopped just forced to change direction,"
"Your answer is acceptable," Sphinxmon said with a small smirk, "though some may argue that preventing it from getting to its intended destination is stopping it, I share your sentiment and thus will not, claim your prize,"
Kuro nodded and hurriedly climbed the pedestal cylinder and came face to plate with the egg. After a strong tug the egg shattered into orange shards and melded into his body he felt a familiar but diffirent energy flood into him.
"Black Agumon, Armour Digivolve to-" Kuro began to glow a bright orange, a tower of flame consumed him, he felt a wave of courage overtake him as he grew, his arms became longer but skinnier, his legs grew out, and he flelt his claws become hands, his taloned feet become more human feet, and the flames rushed on his scale turned skin, to cover him in baggy pants, a stitched shirt, a large wizard hat and a cloak that had rips in tears on the end, he instinctively grasped out his right hand, grabbing hold of a long staff as his eyes moved to the front of his shirking head. Finally with a blast of fire, he emerged from his digivoultion. "Wizardmon!"
"Well met Wizardmon, good fortune on your journey courageous one," Sphinxmon said with a bow of her head, Wizardmon returning the gesture before he closed his eyes, letting the energy rush back inside of him, as an orange light shrunk him back down to Black Agumon, who felt a little winded by the transformation
He exited the temple meeting back with Seadramon, who piled congratulations on the Kuro who was having a bit of a time processing what his new power meant for his future, and worries of said future spinning in his head, Seadramon swam him back to the main roads and with a bitter sweet good by, Kuro returned to his ever exciting journey.
"It doesn't matter, I don't care," Kuro snapped to himself, in a failed attempt to at pushing the rising guilt away.
