The crowd was roaring as the Olympic Digiball Festival was underway. For the Final Round of the Rookie Division, it was the Backup Bayou Abominations, representing the entirety of the Eastern Timberlands, versus the team representing Eldoradimon, the aptly-named. Eldoradimon Hunters. The five members set out on the field, as well as the goalkeeper in the goal zone. Anyways, since Digiball is the most famous and widely-played sport in the entire Digital World, I'm not going to bother explaining the rules, since anyone reading this should already know them by now. Chances are you'll probably learn most of them by reading this MPC, Spire.
The Eldoradimon Hunters had gotten by with just their initial six members, so they were primed and ready as their members entered the field. Their goalkeeper, Sangomon, stood in front of the goal, where there was a soccer/football/whatever sport you non-american heathens call it net, with a metal hoop on top.
Taking point in centerfield was Renamon, a rookie-level Digimon with long limbs and a speedy physique. Behind him was their team's ace, the powerful, yet fast Strabimon.
Filling out the backfield was the team captain Ignitemon and Psychemon, who was also there for some reason. And of course, in the skies above was the only flyer allowed in the Rookie Division, Piyomon.
Being the team from Eldoradimon, they weren't really popular because they were all kind of racist and whatnot, but they were still really good at Digiball, so a lot of people forgave their blatantly racist views. There's a political statement in there but I'm not gonna go too deep into that.
On the opposite side of the team were their opponents, Backup Bayou Abominations. They were by no means popular, but they sure were go-getter underdogs. Plus it helped that they had a large number of backup members. However, most of them flat-out sucked at the game and were forced to become cheerleaders. And cheered they did, led on by an annoying blue Hawkmon.
But for the people who actually had an impact on the game, it was the team captain Annika the BlackTailmon who took centerfield. She was small, but she looked confident enough. Behind her was their own team's ace, Matsuri the blue-colored Agumon that was from the year 2006. She looked amped and ready to go.
In the backfield were their slower members, Midori the Wormmon, and Miki the Gomamon. In the skies above, Momo the Pomumon took flight as their solitary flying member.
And behind all of them in their goalpostnet thingy, was Sakura the Vmon, and aptly colored pink because of course she was. Do you even know me, Spire?
Anyways, the game began at tipoff as the referee, an Agumon Hakase with a black-and-white striped labcoat stepped forward while Renamon and Annika stood face to face.
"I want a clean, fair match-gya!" The Agumon Hakase stated. "Yoy can only use your special attacks on the ball itself, or on the person holding the ball! No outside interference of any kind, or telepathic communication! Are you ready to begin?" Both Digimon nodded, and the Agumon Hakase took a deep breath, and tossed the ball high up into the air.
Both Renamon and Annika leaped up, the tiny black kitty reaching as high as she could, but it was the slightly faster Renamon who touched the ball first, grabbing it and tossing it behind him towards the Strabimon. The moment the Strabimon grabbed ahold of the ball, he took off like a bolt of lightning. But the time Annika and Renamon landed, Strabimon had already moved past them, as Matsuri moved to intercept his charge.
However, Strabimon's form began to shimmer as his body began to glow, and in the blink of an eye, the wolf Digimon vanished from Matsuri's line of sight, Strabimon already having moved past the surprised Agumon. The Strabimon continued onwards before Matsuri could even register what had happened.
But before Strabimon could get to the goal line, he had to deal with the two defenders, Midori and Miki as the moved in. They weren't the fastest Digimon out there, but it didn't matter when their opponent had to come to them! Strabimon zigged and zagged, looking to see an opening he could take advantage of, but didn't see anything obvious.
However, this was a team sport! Strabimon launched the ball up into the air, apparently where nobody was waiting for it. Seeing this as a prime opportunity, Momo dove towards it, only to be cut off by the Eldoradimon Team's own flyer, Piyomon. Which left the ball completely open... to be caught by Renamon, who seemed to have just appeared out of nowhere! Miki leaped upwards, aiming to steal the ball, however, this was all according to the other team's plan!
Renamon passed the ball back to Strabimon, who was easily able to move past the lone Midori. With only the goalkeeper separating Strabimon from scoring, the wolf Digimon spun around, his body glowing as he launched the ball straight towards the opponent's goal, the ball moving like a laser beam!
However, if laser's weren't meant to be caught, then nobody had informed Sakura the Vmon of this! Rather than try to follow the ball itself that was moving at blinding speed, Sakura instead read the path of the Strabimon's throw, throwing her hand out where she predicted the ball was going to. And her prediction came true as her outstretched hand came into contact with the glowing ball that threatened to rip her hand clean off. However, Sakura focused and tightened her grip, and managed to get a steady hold of the ball, putting the Eldoradimon team's assault to an end! It was time for their team to counterattack!
But before Sakura passed the ball to her team, she had to analyze the field as quick as she could. Strabimon and Renamon had pushed in deep into defensive territory, which left the centerfield wide open, where Matsuri and Annika were. Strabimon and Midori were in the middle of the field in front of her, while Renamon and Miki were on the right side, with Momo and Piyomon contesting the air above them. With Strabimon and Renamon so agile and close, however, she couldn't safely pass the ball to Midori or Miki for fear of getting the ball stolen right away, and if Piyomon managed to slip past Momo, then she couldn't throw the ball high above them, either.
Which only left the exposed left side of the field to throw towards, as well as a little bit dose of creative teamwork. Sakura swung strong, hurling the ball far into the left side of the field, where there wasn't anyone to receive it. If the ball didn't go out of bounds outright, it meant that the ball was easy pickings for the much faster Strabimon and Renamon!
However, as Strabimon made for the ball, a wire of web suddenly shot out, sticking to the ball as Midori held the other end of the wire through her mouth! She may not be the fastest or strongest Digimon out there, but there was something even someone slow like her could do, too! She swung with everything she could, changing the ball's course of direction, managing to throw it back towards the middle of the field, a path that was able to get towards her teammates as well as avoiding the troublesome Strabimon and Renamon!
The ball flew towards, caught by the black-furred kitty captain herself, Annika! The BlackTailmon pushed forward as Strabimon and Renamon struggled to catch up from behind, but those two weren't the only Digimon who were fast! Annika dashed forward, the only two Digimon there to stop her charge being Psychemon and Ignitemon.
Ignitemon was first, as Annika had to deal with the battle of the captains! While he wasn't particularly fast, Ignitemon had an explosive (literally) defense, and getting too close to him wasn't recommended. Which meant that Annika would have to pull out all the stops. Or rather, all of Strabimon's stops.
The BlackTailmon started to sway back and forth as her body shimmered and started flickering. And then all of a sudden, to the Ignitemon, it seemed like the black cat had flickered out of existence, much like how Strabimon had moved past Matsuri in the opening play.
Which just left Psychemon left to deal with! The Gabumon-lookalike moved in as quickly as his shorty legs would take him, his long arms spread out wide to close off all of Annika's escapet routes. However, the BlackTailmon was a little more nimble than Psychemon gave her credit for. Twirling around and twisting her small body while her long tail coiled around the ball, the black cat Digimon managed to roll her way around the defending Psychemon as she slipped right past him!
But the Psychemon wasn't so easily trifled with! Reaching out with all of his might, the Gabumon-wannabe swung his arm out and slapped the ball! With her tail gripping the ball, Annika didn't have anything even close to resembling a strong grip, and the ball was sent flying high up!
And that wasn't a good thing! Strabimon and Renamon were some of the fastest players on the field, and the longer the ball stayed up in the air like that the closer they were going to get! But with the ball in the air, it wasn't up to Annika now! It was an aerial battle!
Which now meant it was between Momo and the Piyomon! Both birds went diving for the ascending ball, but it was clear that the Piyomon was flapping his wings just a bit better. But Momo couldn't be deterred! There was still one thing left she could do! The Pomumon couldn't reach the ball in time without slowing down, but if she didn't focus on getting the ball then... Momo gulped in some air along with some courage, and dove towards Piyomon just as he was about to grab the ball, sending both birds sprawling about through the air!
But Piyomon wasn't some Rookie Digiball player! Well... he was, but you get my point! Piyomon had his talons firmly grasped onto the round object as he soared back towards his comrades and to victory!
...Except his teammates were giving Piyomon a strange look. The bird Digimon looked down to find that the round object that he was holding wasn't the ball, but Momo the Pomumon! The round fruit birb kicked out of Piyomon's grip with a victorious gleam in her eye as Piyomon was forced to watch the ball fall back down. Ignitemon, Psychemon, Annika, and Matsuri were all there to catch it!
Ignitemon could be dangerous if Matsuri or Annika got the ball, as it could only use its explosive powers on Digimon holding the ball. Which meant that he needed to be blocked off first and foremost! Matsuri stood in front the humanoid-like Rookie Digimon, her arms held out to block his movement and preventing him from getting any closer.
So once again it was Psychemon and Annika against each other! Annika was clearly more agile than the fur-coated reptile, and it was a given that she would likely get the ball, but it was a matter of whether the BlackTailmon could get past Psychemon once she got control of the ball without losing it once more.
Pondering this for a quick second, Annika decided that it would be too troublesome. So she ran forward, leaped up towards the ball, then struck the ball forward with her cat paw as hard as she possibly could! The ball went flying straight past Psychemon and right towards Sangomon and Team Eldoradimon's goal post!
Sangomon wasn't fully prepared for a shot so quickly, but it was coming in from a good distance away. With Sangomon's poor mobility he likely wouldn't be able to get to the ball in time, but there was a reason the slow Digimon was the goalkeeper. Sangomon took aim with his long arms, ready to shoot out a geyser of water towards the incoming ball. He may not be able to reach the ball in time, but so long as his aim was true there wasn't a single ball that he couldn't block!
Sangomon steadied his aim and let loose a burst of water in order to shoot the ball away and back towards his comrades! By the time it would happen, Renamon and Strabimon would have reached their side of the field and the game would be all but theirs! After all, this MPC was over its 2000 word requirement now, and by the rules of Digiball, that meant that the first team to score won the entire game!
But as nature would have it, the only thing that could beat Sangomon's water at this point... was fire. Before Sangomon's water stream could connect with the ball, a certain blue Agumon spun around, flames gathering in her mouth as she let it loose towards the shot ball! The flames connected, rocketing the ball even faster, moving the ball right past Sangomon's jet stream and straight into the goal!
The winner was the Backup Bayou Abominations!
