The events unfolding right now were a bit on the strange side, even for Digital World standards. The island that had emerged from the ocean’s depths dwarfed all of its smaller neighbors, and had even managed to displace its nearest ones a fair distance away from it. An impressive sight, even if a bit foreboding.
Cold wind began to blow from the emergent landmass, and waves became more violent when coming from and to it. A fairly stark contrast when compared to the usually calm sea of the temperate Southern Tropics, yet the least surprising amongst the recent events. Land and sea were the only paths to access the island as it stood there, waiting in an almost inviting manner for anyone to venture there.
In case anyone was eager, or quick enough to close the distance towards those distant shores, they’d find themselves upon a vast beach completely overrun by what looked like deep-sea algae. Looking inland, a dense jungle became more and more obvious, all while displaying… fragments of what might have been buildings, or even something else; they were far too eroded to know for sure, at least until inspected from a closer position.
As of now, however a single item would probably jump to the forefront of any visitor’s attention. A small chest, half-buried on the beach, just mere inches away from the water’s reach. It didn’t look like it was locked, yet it remained firmly closed.

The gang had restocked at Rosewood and had taken off for Terminus City so Hotaru Inoue, the fledgling Xros General who probably has no business getting involved in a gigantic super-big plot like this, could finally return home. She had managed to get a new chair to replace the one that the... fused form of a pink kung-fu dragon and blue idiot lizard had destroyed by accident when fighting a giant cherry tree with a mustache. You know, the usual Tuesday in the Digital World.
The crew had also acquired holosuits while shopping there, as well, probably something the writer will make a thread about later down the line. And their images had been overwritten with human forms that... seemed to be familiar to them. To some more than others. Many of the group seemed incredibly distracted by this, for some reason.
But not Matsuri. Matsuri was already like, a super adorable Agumon girl. So why wouldn't she also appear as a super adorable human girl? Maybe it was because Matsuri was like, the smartest person to have ever thunk stuff, but she really didn't see what the big deal was.
Especially when an even bigger deal was going around rumors of some island that popped up in the South! Like... a whole unexplored island? That seemed way more cool than returning to some world full of a bunch of boring humans.
So Matsuri had concocted a genius plan! She offered to take care of all the travel arrangements, and then bribed a sea-faring Trailmon to take them out to this island! So when they boarded the train to go to "Terminus", they instead wound up here! The Trailmon had dumped the group off, and everyone seemed really confused.
Hotaru, the group's pet human, was still groggy though. It seemed like moving in large vehicles made her really sleepy or something, because she still hadn't registered what had happened. But looking at the angry glares at some of the other Digimon, they didn't seem too thrilled at their predicament. So Matsuri explained how brilliant her plan was... though they all didn't seem as excited. "And... after the Trailmon had dropped us off, and left... how are we going to get off this mysterious island with potentially all kinds of unknown dangers...?" Sakura had asked, her voice calm, but seething with rage for some strange reason.
"Huh? Oh... I never thought of that..." Matsuri admitted, but the solution was obvious, right? "We'll... just have to make friends with a ghost pirate ship that's also stuck on this island, and they'll take us home! There's always a ghost pirate ship on places like this!"
Sakura was silent for a long, excruciating period before taking a deep breath. "Matsuri. I need you to go away for a little while. I need to take some time to adjust and calm down, and if you're within my line of sight, then that's not going to happen."
That was kind of weird, but Matsuri was a really kind person, so of course she'd help Sakura out! "You're right!" She agreed. "I should go explore the island some while you do all the boring stuff like set up camp!"
"That's just-" There was another deep breath. "Fine. Just go away for now..." And so, Matsuri had taken a few other Digimon along with her to form the exploration team!
There was Miki the Gomamon! She was pretty happy-go-lucky, but being on this island seemed to make her eyes sparkle with amazement, and she insisted on coming along with!
There was Elly, a yellow Shoutmon! She didn't really talk much, and she always glaring at people for long periods of time, and in all honesty, she was kind of scary. But she always seemed willing to go along with everyone else, so she was probably okay!
Alongside them was Emmy the Terriermon! She seemed pretty nervous, all things considered, but she said that waiting with the others would make her more nervous, so she wanted to come along!
Flapping her wings the best she could was Momo the Pomumon! Her flying skills seemed like they'd really be useful so Matsuri insisted she come along! Though for some reason she didn't seem like she wanted to be here...
A little ways behind them was Arisa the Morphomon! The butterfly Digimon also wanted to come along, but she didn't seem like she wanted to do anything in particular. Maybe she was just bored, or something?
And that was the entirety of the group! They hadn't noticed any treasure chest just yet but you can be sure that once they do, they're gonna open that baby up as if it were in some RPG townsperson's home!

Zack, Marigold and Violet's "reasons" for exploring the island were pretty simple all things considered. There was an adventure at hand and the three were all about adventure, especially when that adventure seemed like something lowkey enough to make for a fun daytrip for the little family unit. Marigold was their mode of transport, buzzing along in Stingmon form with Zack clinging to her back and Violet's silver tendrils wrapping firmly around her shoulder until they touched down on the plant matter covered beach.
"Ewww, what the heck?" Marigold picked up her foot and shoot off some of the algae that was clinging like a jelly saran wrap to the sand. Not that shaking it off did her much good, the entire beach was coasted in it so the next step shook took instantly put her foot in just as much goo as she had lifted it out of.
"Answer: The film covering the ground seems to be a form of algae, deep seat plant matter that grows most readily on surfaces actively or partially submerged in natural water sources." Violet said, the ProtoGizmon answering "what the heck?" as if it were an actual question, which made Marigold grumble a little. Stupid Violet, always being so smart and helpful and stuff.
"Makes sense if even half of what people are saying about this island is true. Most of this was probably underwater not long ago. Does make me wonder where on earth all of the plant life in that jungle came from though. I wonder if an island like this would be able to basically remain as is under the water until it was hauled back up by something or other. I'm not sure how concepts like erosion would work in the Digital World truth be told." Zack said, his distinctive gold and bronze motorcycle jacket tied around his waist. The helmet and gloves were packed away in his backpack and he had a large picnic lunch cooled slung over his shoulder. They had come to make a day of it and that was exactly what he planned to do.
"Hello?! Anybody here?!" Marigold shouted, cupping her hands to either side of her nonexistant mouth to help the sound carry...somehow. They didn't want to spook anybody or cause a misunderstanding just in case this island somehow did have native inhabitants or even if there were just other adventure seekers who had come along to see what was what, announcing their presence seemed like the best plan.
"Question: What is that object by the surf?" Violet said, pointing one of their long, wormy tendrils toward the chest, the metal frame of which was still shiny enough to glint softly with the shimmering of the pounding tropical sun.
"Huh, it's a treasure chest." Zack said, rubbing his chin as he walked up past the film of algae and set their things on the nearest, cleanest rock, log or whatever else he could find, even if logically everything on the island should have been three inches deep in algae by now only the beach seemed to actually LOOK like it had been under the tides for god knew how long. "Nobody touch it, not until we can get a good look at it at least. Last thing we need is to release some kind of skeletal pirate crew." He said, leaving only the backpack with his helmet and gloves slung over his back and in easy reach as he walked up to the chest and squatted down in front of it, making sure that he didn't actually touch it, try to polish it off or clean it in any way until he sussed out if there was some kind of writing on it or something else that could possibly warn him of the chest's purpose or what was inside.
Marigold remained in her evolved form. She didn't trust the chest, not one bit. For all she knew it could be the blinking lure on the metaphorical anglerfish...or the very literal anglerfish, because sometimes the digital world just wanted to remind them of how much it hated them, so a giant monster anglerfish wouldn't even have been in the top ten most absurd fastballs that had been tossed directly at Zack's head.
Violet approached slightly closer, though making sure to not touch anything just like Zack said, circling it slightly as they floated in the air, using that whirring, shifting camera lens inset in her "face" to scan much more deeply into the nature of the chest than Zack's very human eyes ever could have. Though Zack highly doubted there was something microscopically written on the body of the chest, at least it meant that Violet was getting involved in thee adventure.

“Inform. An island just emerged from the ocean. This is the event we were looking for. Are you ready to depart, Mana-chan?” “You bet! The Daughters of Tifón shall remain undaunted for the duration of this epic quest! Through high and low, and no matter the hardships ahead, we shall be successful!” Determining the degree of excitement shown by at least one of the twins wasn’t hard at all, even though the two seemed to be looking forward to this endeavor. Some steps away from them, another set of siblings were mostly keeping to themselves. Well, at least one of them. “What’s the matter, En-En-nee?” A curious Marina asked, fiddling with a device that vaguely resembled an old-fashioned mobile phone. “Aren’t you happy? They look so happy! Means we should be happy too, shouldn’t we?” By now, this argument feels like it had been repeated ad nauseam. Yet, the two sisters kept on at it almost as if it were the first. “Did they really have to bring… that human?” Yep, same answer! Every time it was repeated, it sounded with slightly less conviction, though. Almost as if the Weathermon was warming up to the blonde and her… ugh. And her sister. “Hey~!” Before the conversation could follow its natural course, Mana was calling at them. “Stop prattling. It’s time to ride the sky!” En-En nodded and approached the Meicoomons while Marina herself took some moments to operate the device she was holding. “Say, Mori! We’re going to begin our part of the exploration! I’ll let you know if we find something interesting. Please, do the same. Oh, and say hi to Kurumi for me. She probably needs some good vibes after all the crap En-En throws at her. From your favorite sister, kisses!” The felines’ entry into the island was fairly dynamic, both Meicoomons landing gracefully on the sand while making sure to not step on any of the disgusting algae that littered the beach. The four members of the ensemble shared a look before going their separate ways. Mana and Marina went deeper into the island, while Nami and En-En took a different direction each to cover more terrain. The Weathermon was the first one that found something; nothing more and nothing less than a group of assorted digimons flocking around… a human, of all things. “So uh.” She said unceremoniously, thrusting herself into whatever they were doing. She didn’t know who to address, so she picked the pink Veemon at random. “Why are you near that filthy human like that? I hope that you don’t plan to eat it or something like that. That’d be beyond disgusting.” Weird attempt to start a conversation, but not unexpected in hindsight. The second? That’d be Nami, who stumbled into no more and no less than a Gomamon, a Yellow Shoutmon, a Terriermon, a Pomumon, and a Morphomon; was it a coincidence that all the animals those digimon represented were routinely preyed on by cats? Maybe! Well, except seals, but that wasn’t relevant for the sake of the argument. Slit gaze focused on the group, and, after determining that the danger they posed was probably on negative levels, approached them. “Greetings.” Her tone was even and composed. “Query. What brings you here?” “Sister of mine!. I’ve found a receptacle of what might be indescribable riches. I summon thee at once!” Least to say, Mana’s booming voice was pretty much the total opposite of Nami’s. The feline at the scene didn’t interact with it right away, her gaze still on the group. Was she gauging their reaction? Impossible to know. “Proposal. Do you want to accompany me? My sister would be delighted to meet you all.” Was the offer genuine? There was only one way to find out. Any attentive reader probably knew by now that the only —somewhat— unaccounted digimons in the group were Mana and Marina; their paths had converged with the one taken by a human male, a Stingmon and some kind or other of Gizmon. Of course, as soon as the Meicoomon visualized the chest, a call that probably could be heard by anyone in this half of the island was issued, and that probably would be enough to alert anyone nearby of both her presence and her Tutomon companion's. Interestingly enough, the rodent was the first one to close the distance between herself and the strangers, even though she was being closely followed. “Greetings, miscellaneous lifeforms!” At times like this, she genuinely envied Mana’s ability to add a little flair to her voice. “Seems like you, too, are in search of the ultimate thrill!” Marina made a grandiose gesture, giving way to the Meicoomon. “It’s my pleasure to present no more and no less than the star of the show! The center! Nothing less than one of Hurricane Princesses!” Mana bowed theatrically at the introduction before speaking, a grin already plastered on her feline features. “Thank you very much! You’re far too kind! I wish we had time for proper introductions, but adventure calls!” Having said that, she approached the chest and, without a care in the world, lifted the lid up. What could be inside? In the meantime, Marina seized that the focus was diverted from her to send yet another message. “Say, Mori! We found a chest and we just opened it! I’ll keep you updated on what’s inside in a bit! Did you find anything interesting on your side? Tell me everything. Hope Kurumi’s behaving! From your favorite sister, kisses!”

As people began to notice the island, things started seeming a bit less deserted! Well, the term 'people' might have been loose. It was mostly digimon, with just a couple humans among them. But none of them seemed feral, so it was a decent start!
For the time being, nothing interesting seemed to be happening to the Xros army, and their pet, beyond their regular antics. It was a totally regular island, with totally regular places for them to plan their day! Or, rather, totally regular places to shoo away the most frustrating members of the party so that the stressed out ones could have a breather.
It wouldn't be this group that addressed the island's super-hidden-treasure, however! Instead, a human and two Digimon would have stumbled upon it first. For a brief time, the trio would be left alone to examine the chest, even despite Marigold's shouting in search of others. At least until some cats show up, but they're getting their own paragraph and this one is about Zack and company. With the choice to examine instead of open, they would find that... Yep. It's a chest.
The chest was made of wood, didn't look particularly old nor particularly new, and seemed surprisingly dry for something that had been underwater for an undefined period of time! The only piece that would stand out on the otherwise unremarkable container would be a swiss blue topaz, set where a keyhole would normally be found. It appeared to hold no function, but it would probably have a very nice shine to it if anyone dusted it off!
Fancy blue rock aside, it was pretty average, and definitely not an anglerfish. Violet's scan probably wouldn't yield any further results, aside from maybe the occasional scuff in the wood from being shuffled around before it had made its way to its current resting spot.
Or until it made its way into some energetic cat paws! A little delayed to be considered summoned by Marigold's call, but (probably) effective in trying to drag everyone nearby into the subject of treasure chests, all the same! Was that for better, or for worse? This supposed Hurricane Princess would find absolutely no resistance from the chest (or island, for that matter) when it came to approaching and opening it. Maybe because she was clearly some sort of royalty! Or, more likely because it was quite literally just a plain chest, and the Meicoomon was kind of careless!
Everything was fine! The chest swung open easily, and no undead pirates rose from the sea! And then, after about a second had passed, it inexplicably puffed out what could only be described as an explosion of dust! While there was a good chance most (if not all) of a certain Xros General's army had been out of range, along with one Princess, it was safe to assume anyone near the chest when it had been opened would have their sinuses assaulted!
But aside from being dusty and maybe a bit sniffly, it seemed pretty harmless. Oh well. Hopefully the treasure was worth it!
Granted, the contents of the chest were pretty underwhelming! In fact, this thing was mostly empty! All except for a single, golden-colored compass, and a thin strip of journal paper crumpled in a way to wrap it around the item. Neither appeared particularly high-value on their own, but they still surely held some sort of interesting tale.
The compass dial, regardless of if touched, was spinning erratically. Every so often, it would pause, and point in the direction of the jungle, before repeating the cycle again. The paper seemed far less exciting from its spot on the compass, with the only visible writing on it being scribbled at the bottom of the strip.

The sudden arrival of the Weathermon took everyone by surprise. Several members of the army began to run around in circles frantically - the Hawkmon and Wormmon more so than everyone else. The Lucemon was fluttering about, floating in the air with her legs crossed as if seated on an invisible stool.
Which left only the pink Vmon to answer the Weathermon's question. "What!? No... um..." What a ridiculous question! "We're just... partners, I suppose. And we're not nearly hungry enough to want to eat her. That'd be cannibalism... or..." Huh. Wait, but Sakura was a Digimon, so did that mean eating a human would be ok- she shook that thought off.
Meanwhile, the human in question let out a loud yawn as she stretched her arms up. She blinked as she mindlessly looked around for a bit. "Oh... Is this that Terminus place?" She asked no on in particular as she looked over towards the newcomer. "Hey there... are you our tour guide, or something? Nice to meet you..." The human girl's head sunk down as she were about to go back to sleep before snapping right back up to make eye contact with the cloud-riding Digimon. But what about Matsuri's group? They had been approached by a kitty-kat that invited them to join her! Matsuri wasn't so sure initially, though. She was an adorable little girl and she had to be careful about getting kidnapped by bad people. But it wasn't like she was being offered candy or like she was being invited into a van or anything like that, so it was probably fine. She looked back towards the rest of the group and without so much as discussing it she turned back towards Nami and started to make a hand gesture before realizing something... she wasn't one of those Agumon. So her form flickered to a tiny little human girl and gave the cat Digimon a thumbs-up! And then she charged off without a moment's hesitation, the other five Digimon moving to catch up.
And that charge led to a crowd of another human with a few Digimon around as well, plus there was another kitty holding a chest! "Stop right there!" She yelled out, doubling her speed and promptly slipping on some algae as she approached. She sprawled forward before regaining some balance as her clumsy blunder turned into a slide across the plant-covered sand. Her skid came to a full stop as she swung both arms out wide and yelled out "Saaaaafe!" like she were an umpire at the pitcher's mound, accidentally karate-chopping the human man's shin in the process.
But instead of apologizing, Matsuri stood up and ran over towards the kitty with the chest. "Hey, kitty number 2! Lemme see, lemme see!" She took a peek and nodded thoughtfully just as the other five of Matsuri's group caught up. "I see... A broken timepiece and a cryptic note..." She crossed her arms in deep thought.
Clearly Matsuri would be a great help in this endeavor.

"AH! Who the hell?!" Zack and Marigold bolted upright and turned to the new sound that filled their ears. Zack reached back and pinched his thumb and forefinger against the zipper of the bag he was wearing on his back. If things started to get hairy then he wanted to have as quick access to his helmet as he could get.
"Answer: The Meicoomon has been forthcoming with introductions, they identified themself as-" Violet said, again taking the asking of a rhetorical question from their insectoid companion as an actually question which Marigold groaned and cut off.
"I heard what she said, Violet, thank you." Marigold said, still not letting her stance fully relax. She was now more confused than anything, that confusion only growing by the second as the feline digimon made a big song and dance out of their entrance and Marigold could only tilt her head, a gesture that her father mirrored.
"Nice to...meet you? I'm sorry are we supposed to know who you are?" He said, obliviously blowing right past the digimon's claimed celebrity status. Unless the given famous person had played a comic book character before his knowledge of most HUMAN celebrities was lacking at best, his knowledge of Digital celebrities was practically non-existent. "No wait!" He shouted impotently for caution as the cat threw the chest open and sent and explosion of dust through the air, making him cough and hack and spit as he tried to clear his throat and his sinuses of the small particulates of god knows what that had been there for god knows how long. He only hoped that this wasn't one of those stories where a broken vial of smallpox had been left there somehow.
His focus was once again diverted with a snap turn of his head as he saw an Agumon sailing on her stomach right toward him. He almost lifted his leg in time only to feel the reptilian digimon's hand crack up against his shin directly above his ankle, tossing him off balance and sending him sailing onto his back as he turned over in the air.
"I want to make it known for the record that I have an instantly bad feeling about this." Marigold said as she marched over to the Agumon and reached out with one of her insectoid claws, grabbing her by the top of the head and spinning her around to face Zack as he pushed himself with a wobble back to his feet, rubbing his aching shin on the way up. "Miss. I'm going to STRONGLY advise you to apologize for plundering into my father like that. STRONGLY." She said, pulling her uncomfortably tight claw away, assuming that she had more than made her point in that moment.
"It's fine, Marigold. No harm, well, no permanent harm anyway, no foul." He said, looking down into the treasure chest that had been opened up in front of them and shaking his head with a sigh, pulling his helmet free of his bag and popping it over his head. So much for a lazy picnic at the beach.

Were the Weathermon’s words worthy of such a commotion? It was hard to know, yet the Vmom seemed like the only digimon present with a semblance of having a head above their shoulders. There was a short pause between their response and the inquiring digimon just… shrugging at the response. Her stare was obviously judgmental of the group, but that wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. “Not the greatest, but at least not entirely devoid of taste.” Before she could add anything to those words, it seemed like the human was waking up! And that she had her own words to say, too! Of course, En-En’s disdain was a lot clearer when directed to a, well… “Filthy human.” Yup, the moniker’s not getting any older for her! She seemed to unconsciously react to something after saying those; what could it be? “I’m departing closer to the island’s heart. You can follow me if you wish, but don’t even think for a second I’m here to help any of you.” Fair deal, right? At least for the Weathermon it was. Generous, even. In the meantime, a certain cat was already searching through the contents of a certain treasure chest; giving them a quick look before addressing the people that seemed curious about her presence. She puffed her chest, then spoke. “At all!” Her voice boomed in the rhythm of the familiar theme. “I wouldn’t put the weight of knowledge on the ignorant masses for anything in the world! But, luckily! This is something that can be fixed with extreme ease!” Before any introductions could take place, however, it was the Agumon/Little Girl’s turn to arrive to the scene, crashing into the human and injuring him in a rather comical way. At the request for the items looted from the chest, Mana obliged, showing them before shaking her head dismissively. “This is no ordinary timepiece!” In fact, it wasn’t a timepiece at all, but explaining that nuance seemed like a bad decision on the spot. “It’s actually the Jeweled Compass of Horai! A treasure of incalculable value that’s able to lead us to even greater riches! This is a most important development in our quest!” Of course, the note was bound to have a meaning too, right? If it had, however, the cat didn’t even recognize it until her sister, alongside a small gathering of other digimons, made their way towards the place itself. “Observation.” She noted once the distance to the group was closed. “It seems like you’ve made a lot of acquaintances. Have you found anything of interest?” Once again, the older sister puffed her chest. “Correct! The Jeweled Compass of Horai has opened a gateway to unknown riches! And thus, we shall march onward!” Having said that, the cat advanced deeper into the jungle, followed by her sister and anyone willing to partake in such a perilous journey. Marina, meanwhile, sent one last message before following along. “Ooooh. That’s so interesting! Say, Mori! We found a broken compass and a note on ours! The note said ‘Remember: 1st is -’, in case that’s ever relevant, and the compass is telling us to head deeper into the jungle! We’ll keep you updated on how that goes. From your favorite sister, kisses!”

Despite some potential tension among the group that had gathered, they managed to get the chest opened safely! And, by managed, it meant a cat opened the chest. There was never a dangerous way to go about it, unless a certain Agumon had managed to collide into it, too! But, that wasn't the case, so everything worked out!
At least, as long as the dust wasn't secretly human-infecting digi-smallpox.
With the newly titled Jeweled Compass of Horai, everything was sure to become more interesting! And, hopefully, less dusty. Riches wouldn't be dusty, after all! Plus, this cat must be a top-tier treasure hunter, if she could identify such a thing at a glance! Zero reason to mistrust her!
That would leave the others to decide if they wanted to participate in the treasure hunt in the jungle alongside the felines! However, it would be mighty boring if they stayed, with only an empty chest as a constant reminder of what they could be missing out on!
Those who chose to follow the compass would quickly find themselves delving into thick foliage. Surely, it would be easy to get lost as soon as they were out of eyesight from the beach! But, the view was potentially worth it. Rare flowers, vines, and mysterious plants filled the area. There was even a little mushroom circle growing in one of the slightly less dense patches of the jungle! Clearly, outside forces hadn't touched the place in a long while!
It was easy to forget that this place was underwater not long before.
Beauty didn't necessarily equate to peace, however. Any of the treasure hunters, that were a little on the perceptive side, would surely feel something was a little off about their journey. The rustle of grass even without anyone moving, an occasional sigh from something among the trees. Or, was it just a breeze forcing its way through the jungle? Either way, it might be difficult to shake off the feeling that someone might be watching them, even with the land as undisturbed as it was!
At least, until even the densest of adventurers would be unable to ignore a tune being hummed by something nearby. And then, a gasp, followed by the sound of grass and leaves shuffling as the source hurried away from the group and further into the jungle.
Was it worth checking into, or did the group's priority lie elsewhere?

Hotaru couldn't help but raise an eyebrow towards the Weathermon that so blatantly insulted her, then extended an invitation to join her further into deeper the jungle. Plus... did she hear something about how humans tasted as she was waking up? That was gonna be a hard pass for this particular human. Judging by the shocked reactions of several of her Digimon comrades, it must have been something of the sort.
"Don't take this the wrong way..." Hotaru began before shaking. "Actually, I don't really care what way you take it. But I'd rather lose two more limbs before I followed you anywhere. So I don't know what kind of wind is gonna make a cloud like you go away the fastest, but..." Hotaru waved her hand around, pushing air towards the Weathermon. "Shoo. You're a crappy tour guide, and I'll complain to your manager if you don't beat it."
Besides, if Matsuri and the other went off, then Hotaru couldn't exactly leave, could she? What if they came back, saw that no one was there, and went off looking for them only to get lost, and then when Hotaru got back she would have to go looking for them and... it all sounded like a pain. Staying put seemed like the best option for now. As for the members of this account that were relevant to the actual story of this thread, the group were all more than happy to accept Mana's invitation. Considering the mental age of the girls, several of them were even wowed by Mana's showmonship. In fact, the Shoutmon in particular couldn't help but feel all warm and fuzzy inside for some reason as she couldn't help but stare at the kitty mon. Though, it looked more like an angry glare from the yellow Shoutmon.
Emmy was also staring, though her gaze was directed towards another, the human man present. Something about him seemed familiar somehow. Which was weird considering... nah, it didn't matter. There was an adventure to be had, after all!
However, if they were gonna be adventuring buddies, then it was proper to introduce themselves, right? Leave it to the resident friendly person of the group! "We'll be glad to tag along, if you'll have us!" The Gomamon stated. "I'm Miki! The former Agumon is Matsuri! She can be a little... intense, but she's well-meaning!"
"Yo!" She said, completely ignoring Marigold's strong advice. There wasn't any need to apologize, after all! Rush the pitcher's mound and you get got... or something like that. She had never learned the rules; baseball was so boring cause you were standing around waiting most the time!
"Our Pomumon friend is Momo! She's a good girl!" Meanwhile the fruit birb giggled as she waved a wing towards the group as a whole.
"And I am Arisa! It is a pleasure to be meeting you!" The Morphomon interjected, floating around right in front of the Tutomon's face. "Hey, you are talking to someone, no? Will we be meeting these friends of yours later? I am liking the idea of meeting more people!"
"And let's see... then we've got the golden girls, Emmy the Terriermon and Elly the Shoutmon! They're both pretty shy, but they're sweet!"
"It's very nice to meet you all!" Emmy cried out, her voice a little louder than intended. "Oh... I'm so sorry..." Meanwhile, Elly opened her mouth to say something, but nothing came out. So instead she resorted to into making intense eye contact at anyone she caught looking her way.
Anyways, that was it for introductions, it was time to get a move on, and they did! Traveling through the jungle was fun! Matsuri insisted on leading the way despite not having any idea where to go, and only begrudgingly accepted following the compass once that was made painfully apparent. Momo tried to take to the skies to getter a better vantage point, only to fly into a tree branch, then shamefully land and walk like some kind of flightless peasant.
Meanwhile, Emmy and Elly followed a starry-eyed Miki as she glanced every which way, the excitement of traveling through unknown depths making her very being tremble in excitement. She had so many questions about this place, but this post is already too long for all that! Elly looked around her surroundings, but if she noticed something, she didn't say anything aloud. They truly seemed to be the densest of adventurers!
But when... someone gave away their position, Matsuri was quick to act. "A native! Come back so we can take all your treasure and stuff!" She declared, immediately charging through the jungle in order to catch up with... whoever it was. It didn't really matter all that much, after all. All that seemed to matter was that it seemed interesting!
"Hey! Matsuri, don't go off too far!" Miki warned, gesturing to Momo as the Pomumon gave chase to the fleeing holosuited little girl, with Arisa following. Meanwhile, the Gomamon summoned forth a school of floating fishie friends to help her. "Marching Fishies! Go and see what's around us! And come back to me if you find something interesting!"
Unsurprisingly... the fish did so. Big shocker.
Present: Matsuri the Agumon (Giving Chase)
Miki the Gomamon (Fishie Scouts)
Elly the Shoutmon (Sticking with Group)
Momo the Pomumon (Giving Chase)
Emmy the Terriermon (Sticking with Group)
Arisa the Morphomon (Giving Chase)
Everyone Else (Staying Put)

"You little bi-" Marigold bunched up her shoulder as she was roundly ignored, especially with how rudely the girl had blundered into her father. Zack, on the other hand raised his hand toward his daughter, giving her a motion or sign to calm down and let the situation play out in front of them. He placed his hands on his hips and canted his head to one side at the show-woman who would make him grin and roll his eyes at the same time, not that either expression would be noted from beneath his custom motorcycle helmet.
"Question: How did you know the identification of that specific item, as well as its purpose in the present situation?" Violet asked out loud. Zack and his family had come to that island in order to get away from their lives of constant adventure only to blunder directly into it and it seems like they were the only ones who had come unprepared.
"I'm Zack. This is my daughter Marigold and my ward Violet." Zack said, motioning to the Digimon in turn. He hadn't officially adopted Violet at this point, still not being totally clear on where they had come from left him without the ability to just ask them to be part of the family, they may indeed have family of their own out there. He was just looking after them until then or until he learned otherwise. "Before we all go blundering off, what kind of "treasure" are we talking about here? People generally don't just leave their valuables behind, especially not without some kind of...security..." he said, the assorted group already beginning to move deeper into the jungle. he sighed, rubbing his face over the mask and shaking his head, stepping forward to bring up the rear of the group with a motion to his companion to follow behind, the trio bringing up the rear.
Violent almost instantly began to get distracted by all of the rare and exotic things around them, stopping to scan one vine or flower after another until they began to falter behind the group. Zack sighed and reached out to grasp one of their tendrils and wrapped it around his waist like the sleeves of an unused sweatshirt, tugging them along as he walked.
"Stay up, youngster, I've got money on you." Zack said as he caught Momo after their little pop in the face with an overhanging branch, dusting off the site of impact gently with a brush of his fingers before setting the Pumomon back on their feet. He dropped into a fighting stance as he heard something that could only be a living creature rustling through the grass and leave around them, snapping branches and kicking rocks until the sound of it was noticed and it took off at a sprint in the other direction. "No don't!...mmm, the fact that we're the reasonable and level headed ones in this situation is not what I was expected today, baby girl." He said, holding out his hand in a specific way that signaled for Marigold to swoop him up in her arms as he clutched Violet to his chest.
The stingmon bashed through tree after tree with her shoulders and single free claw, closing the gap on the fleeing observer even as she had to dodge and buzz past the other, smaller digimon in pursuit and the fishy scouts that were blundering through the sun speckled lowlands of the dense jungle biome. Stingmon eventually zipped past the fleeing spy and crashed down like a monster in front of them, cutting off their running path in mid stride and hunching over to meet the eyes of whatever was in front of her with her own crimson red vision.
"Stop. Running." Marigold said with a snarl that was probably about 50% more intimidating than was totally required at the very least but hopefully it would work long enough for Zack to motion to be set down, Violet still wandering off to scan every plant rock and bug in their vision, Zack took off his helmet and looked at whatever it was that they had been chasing.
"No one here wants to hurt you, ok? My name is Zack, what's yours?" He said. he hadn't caught a good look at whatever it was they were after during the chase and he had to strain his eyes a little against the shade and blinding sun that seemed to break through the canopy at random depending on the rustling of the wind. He just silently prayed that the rest of the group crashing up through the jungle behind them wouldn't spook the thing they were chasing. "Guys will you stop with the wacky races routine, please!" He said, shouting over the shoulder of his conversation partner in order to address the crashing trio and the cloud of floating fish that he could see gaining ground behind them. "No wonder he ran with all of you baring down on the poor thing." He said, clutching the bridge of his nose. He needed to make some apologies when he got back to land, this kind of exuberance could be exhausting and mostly he was used to inflicting it on others.

Hotaru’s response was seemingly ignored by En-En, who seemed to be deep in thought, or at the very least focused on something after hearing the words. After whatever distracted her ceased, she turned to speak again. “That’s your prerogative, filthy human.” Disdain wasn’t getting any less intense in her voice. “You’re definitely not deserving of the information, but if you’re associated in any way with a bunch of digimon from which at least one likes to dress up, or with another filthy human that’s accompanied by a bug and a robot, they’re both heading inland, in case you ever want to rendezvous with them.” With some luck, that was the last En-En would see of that filthy human in particular. She directed her next words towards the digimons that accompanied her. “Make sure to not get eaten in the meantime! I’ll take my leave now.” Having said that, the Weathermon now abandoned the scene for reals, but not before throwing a sizable glob of some inky substance once she was at a far enough distance. Once it crashed with any surface, or in case it was popped, the subsequent torrent of the thick and viscous, but ultimately harmless liquid would splash everywhere around. A parting gift that no doubt matched the digimon’s personality! Things were going notably better where the situation wasn’t outwardly hostile, thankfully. It seemed like, as the cats were about to dive deep into the jungle, questions were being asked and introductions were finally being engaged in full force. This made Mana approach the curious Gizmon before proclaiming. “Glad you ask, my robotic friend!” Before continuing, she made a point to show the compass. “My true companions and I have traveled far and wide through the Digital World! With the experience we’ve amassed in our journeys, getting ourselves acquainted with the many relics and artifacts this marvelous world possesses is only natural. It might not be clear for you right now, but with careful examination and experience, you might be able to identify relics of incalculable value just as readily as any of us!” Having said this, she made the motions to hand the compass to the robot, in case she wanted it. Experience had to be gotten somewhere, right? Not to say that she had gotten all the information she needed from the thing. Noticing the unfolding events, Nami approached the Shoutmon who had the weird habit to stare. She didn’t look like the aggressive type, but her way to approach situations intrigued the Meicoomon. “Query. Do you have anything you’d like to discuss with my sister? You seem to be quite interested in her.” As each individual cat was busy engaging with their own people, it seemed like it was Marina’s responsibility to reply to the introductions. Not like she minded, anyway; the Tutomon stepped forward, sadly with less flair than Mana, but with just as much showmanship. “It’s nice to meet everyone!” Cheerfulness was evident in her voice. “It is my pleasure to introduce everyone to the twin princesses of the hurricane, the heiresses of entire realms, the vanquishers of ignorance, injustice and bad taste! Mana and Nami!” She bowed slightly to each cat as she said their names, which was probably handy given how, besides their mannerisms, both Meicoomons were identical. After a good enough pause, she continued. “Thanks to being closely related to them, I was awarded the privilege of being their logistics specialist. My name’s Marina! Hope we can become the best of friends!” As greetings were being exchanged, Arisa approached the Tutomon, with a question that she answered right away. “Yeah! I’m in contact with my two older sisters! En-En was part of our original group, but went to do some reconnaissance near the beach, and got distracted by… another human and her digimons. She isn’t really a fan of humans, so she might’ve spent a little too much time there! But there’s also my oldest sister, Amorie! She’s on the other side of the island altogether and seems to have formed her own group! Thus far, the hints they’ve been given are very different to ours, yet they also are leading them inland. Ain’t that amazing?” With the brunt of the talking out of the way, the cats and the hamster ventured into the jungle, taking their time to not disturb what seemed like an extremely entrancing ecosystem… only for the increasing conspicuousness of an unseen observer to be identified and promptly chasen in a very inelegant way. Neither Nami nor Marina made an effort to try and catch up with the pursuing group, probably because they knew more than well that Mana was already well on her way. That made it so the two remained with Elly, Emmy, and Miki. “Confusion.” Nami issued to her companions, not missing a beat. “Are your colleagues always so chaotic? Or is it part of being associated with humans for a prolonged period of time? Finding digimons that manage to be more impulsive than Mana-chan with this frequency is both baffling and a little disappointing at the same time.” Who knew, maybe the Meicoomon hadn’t gotten such a bad deal with her sister, after all. Mana was fast, sure, but she was also not in a hurry to catch up with the group that had rushed recklessly onward. What was ahead could very well be a trap of some sort! It was a tad funny, and equally ironic that the human himself had been the one to put that idea on the table, just for his Stingmon partner to completely disregard it, in a sense. The loud crash of her pouncing could be heard even at her current location “Just because we’re here to plunder the island doesn’t mean we have to do so with disrespect, you know? We aren’t barbarians, at least at the moment!” She called in the direction everyone was rushing towards. To say the group lacked finesse was probably the understatement of the year. Nonetheless, the Meicoomon took it in stride as she closed the gap. Only then, she couldn’t avoid staring at Zack, entertained at his words to the point of giggling. “I don’t know about you, but if a wasp with arm-mounted swords was flying at me at full speed, I wouldn’t think too much about a collection composing of a disguised lizard, a butterfly, a fruit that thinks they’re a bird and a school of common fishes that’s far behind her. I’ve predated on all of those at least once and more often than not, they're easy prey.” A fairly casual statement, wasn't it? After those words, she gave Marigold a look before addressing her. “Can’t deny talent when I see it, though! The hunt seems to come naturally to you. Ever thought about going for bigger game? I could always accommodate another partner!” That aside, it was hard to deny that saying about curiosity and cats, for sure! What had Marigold caught, exactly? And most importantly; would any answers be gotten from such a pursuit? They’d find out soon enough.

The tourists on this island sure were spicy! Between Hotaru sassing a digi-Lakitu, and Marigold getting ready to fight for her human's honor, this had to be the most excitement seen on the island in quite a while!
On the bright side, shooing away the human-eating Weathermon would provide a very peaceful time for that portion of Hotaru's group. They'd get the beach getaway that they always wanted! And, if they didn't want it, that was just too bad because they were doomed to a little off-screen beach episode. With a side of ink from En-En, apparently.
Once introductions were out of the way with the main group, it was time for exploration to begin! Violet's scans would prove interesting, as many of the things she paused for would react in random ways to the interaction! A vine wobbled, as if in protest, some of the flowers would provide the tiniest of glows and glitters, and one even outright wilted! Who would have thought something like a scan would trigger them?
Which was surely a sign of what was about to happen with those Marching Fishies.
If the mysterious creature could understand Matsuri, it was beyond reasonable that it would want to flee the scene. Who outright told strangers that they wanted to rob them?! And to add to potential stress, most of the pursuers didn't seem overly graceful in their chase! The current disruption even, somehow, rendered the fancy compass useless, as its needle would spin aimlessly.
While some specifically chased the entity, Marching Fishies were given the directive to find something interesting! What things would they report back on? As foreshadowed, plenty of the plant-life reacted to any touch by the summoned creatures. About a third of the plants remained completely normal. Others gave off warm glows, shuffled out of the way, or outright died at the mercy of the unforgiving fishies that hadn't actually done anything wrong. The mushroom ring gave off a glow and an almost mechanical hum, but it seemed to be the extent of it. Some trees would even visibly begin to decay if a fishy dared to get too close. All in all, it seemed like the group was unintentionally very disruptive to the jungle!
Not that most of them would notice the damage from fish and scanners, considering there was something else to focus on! Or, was there? Though grass did seem to part during the pursuit, implying they had been chasing something, now that Zack's side of the group had touched down and tried to confront the spy, there was... nothing! Even Marigold's attempt at eye contact and intimidation would fail, considering there wasn't a trace of what they'd been hunting!
At least they could still receive praise from an impressed Meicoomon.
It may have seemed like quite the letdown for a moment. Especially for the Digimon in the group! Which was to specify, everyone except for Zack. For them, this moment would bear absolutely no victory. The trail was cold, and not a scent or aura to be picked up on. To the smallpox-inhaling human's eye, however?
A strange shape would shuffle in the corner of his vision, furthering its trek into the depths of the jungle. If he tried to focus on it, it would only come up as blurry spots, as if he had stared into a bright light for too long. And, soon, it would vanish into the trees. Perhaps a trap? Or a crafty escape from the scary group?
Simultaneously, a certain Gomamon would be receiving news from the fishies that had both killed and rejuvenated the forest.
Three makeshift shacks were located. All of their doors closed. Zero inhabitants spotted.
In the same direction that Zack's sun-dappled 'ghost' had been moving.

ari can't be bothered to make a proper post right now, but for the sake of moving things along, here's a general idea of what these nerds are doing.
- Matsuri most definitely ignores Zack's comment. It's only polite to declare your intentions, after all, and Matsuri and the gang wasn't the one destroying a part of the forest just to get through it a little faster. And if Zack doesn't bring it up, she'll start walking off in a random direction, confident that it's where the person they were chasing went.
- Speaking of busting through trees, Momo is definitely shocked and horrified at Marigold for just so casually barreling through trees just to get moving a little faster. As a plant creature with the mind of a very confused 8-year-old, she's staring at Marigold like she had just seen her drive through a crowd of people just to get to a good parking space. Dick move, Marigold.
- Arisa's doing nothing of interest.
- Back with the others, Miki would wait for her fishie scouts to get back to her. The fishies don't actually speak, and Miki only thinks that she can understand them. They're able to tell Miki that yes, they indeed found things that were interesting, but nothing specific. They would lead Miki and anyone else who wanted to accompany her towards the shacks.
- Elly and Emmy are also there, being like... gold or yellow or whatever. If someone asks them to do something they'll try and help out, though.

Zack's head turned to see whatever ghost was moving out toward the trio of cabins, Marigold followed his line of sight on instinct even if she couldn't see whatever it was that her father was seeing. He held up his hand through and pointed down to the ground, Marigold shrinking down to her FanBeemon form with an understanding of the signal. Whatever this thing was it was already fleeing from them for some reason or another and the other were right, Marigold wasn't exactly anything less than terrifying in her Stingmon form, especially when she was crashing through the forest like a kaiju with a firecracker strapped to it.
"I already have a calling. Sorry." Marigold said, brushing off the impressed Meicoomon out of hand. She took a lot of moral pride in the work she and her father did together and she wasn't going to abandon that to play Indiana Jones with someone that, so far, she didn't even like.
"Anybody home?!" Zack called, cupping his hand to one side of his face as he called out into the small clearing where the cabins lay. He didn't have any reason to assume that whatever ghost he had seen slinking off into the underbrush was hostile or dangerous and so, with the heroic optimism that came so naturally to him, he assumed the best without doing so much to prepare for the worst. Until he got some reason to assume otherwise he was going to try his best to take a diplomatic approach.
