After school. A rare break from working on the home, or trying to do anything for the family. Father and Mother wanted to have a night out, since she was finally old enough to handle most of the household stuff by herself. There had been talk of going and seeing the rest of the family coming up, but that would involve going back to the village. She did not know if she felt like going, even if her connection to here was rather loose as well. The voice in her dream, the sound of being called, it had flooded her mind this afternoon. Instead of going straight home, she went out to the Shibuya River, as if in a daze, as if called there. Her eyes remained half lidded.
She could smell it on the wind, the weather was shifting. It was becoming towards the end of a vacation time, and the beginning of the next serious set of school days. She would be swapping uniform soon, she felt. Still, that voice, calling her, the feeling of the static between her and what the voice wanted, needed, it seemed to get stronger the more she walked towards the river. She could almost feel it, almost as if it was writing in her head that was scrambled and fuzzed out, getting clearer. She did not have her friends from school with her, nor did she really seem to notice anyone else. This was moving from just curiosity to obsession. Her feelings for wanting to finally get answers had grown to a roar. The dreams had been growing more vibrant as well. This was her feeling, to find out, what was her destiny? Why was she being called? What was the deal with the voices? Those shadowy creatures? What was their part in it? Why is it that this broken box kept following her where ever she went? She had it now, in her backpack, but she had thrown it out five times today alone.
Stopping by the river bank, she felt a vibration from her backpack, and stopped to pull it out, the odd white box. This has been in her dreams a lot as well. Still, holding it for a few seconds made her feel light headed as it started to feel like the voice was simultaneously in her head, and coming from the box. The static with in the voice was there, distorting it, making it harder to understanding here for a moment.
It was dizzying as she fell to her knees for a second, the box, the cracks on it, the lack of signs of light in it as it fell from her hands.
She took a moment to try to break from the dizzy spell that hit her.
