The streets were lively, at least as lively as anywhere in the Dark Area could be. Digimon of all shapes and sizes walked, rolled, and slinked the streets as they went about their days. The sights, the sounds, the smells, they all bombarded Moxius at once as he and Vem aimlessly wandered the vast city.
"Vem, would you have any idea where to start looking? We both don't even really know where to start with this..."
The Digimon looked around to see if anyone around them looked like they knew what they were doing. Not long ago the only person he had talked to was his sister, and that number hasn't really grown much either. What even is a normal question to ask someone? Something told him that "Hey, can you teach me the structure and system this world works on." wasn't gonna cut it. From what little Vem could explain to him, Digimon like them could transform over time into more powerful forms and gain abilities as they grow, which can also be accelerated through attaining a human partner. At least that's what he got from Vem rambling through his thoughts ad going on multiple tangents that were seemingly unrelated. It all lined up though, since Moxie did remember looking very different after he hatched than what he was now.
"Ah don't sweat all of that." Vem said between bites of a large piece of meat. "If you wanna fight a strong Digimon you gotta Digivolve, and that doesn't just happen overnight."
For now, Moxie guessed it was alright to heed Vem's advice, even though something told him there was much more to it than what he knew. The two of them sat down on a nearby bench, Vem gleefully enjoying him meal and Moxie visibly lost in his thoughts.

Deeplane, between it's winding underground highways and corridors, stony architecture and lack of sunlight did little to endear itself to Dio, despite being objectively better and safer than 99% of the entire Dark Area. Sure, it was a peaceful place (as peaceful as a city could be at least), it's inhabitants kind, but it was still the Dark Area, no amount of bells and whistles could ever fully get rid of the impmon's distate for the place.
Scraping by to survive, avoiding confrontation, having to fight for his life, those were all the memories that the place brought him, and that was probably how it was going to be until the bitter end...so what the hell was he doing there? To answer that one only needed to know the answer to a completely separate question: why was his tamer Carlos here?
Long story short, as fate would have it the man had close acquaintances with some of the people in charge of the place, and much to his chagrin he was in sore need of the assistance of people in high places. What better excuse to give them a visit?
The impmon initially planned to tag along, but decided to stay behind and see the sight's of the underground city on his own at the last minute, wondering if maybe that way the place would perhaps haunt him a bit less.
He wasn't being succesful so far.
With an annoyed sigh, he ceased his walking and leaned his back against the blackened wall of one of the many buildings of the city, foot tapping on the pavement as if hoping that would make time go faster.

Moxie folded his arms and tapped his toe in impatience. Once Vem was done eating, he did the same, the both of them progressively getting more visibly agitated. After waiting on the bench for several minutes, the two both simultaneously agreed that they had enough of waiting, springing up to a standing position at the same time. "Screw this, let's just find the smartest-looking person around and ask him." barked Vem, clearly fed up with waiting. Moxie saw some issues with this plan, but couldn't come up with anything better at the moment, so he figured it was worth trying at least once. He shrugged his shoulders, then questioned: "Alright, who are we asking?" The two of them narrowed their eyes, scanning their surroundings panoramically as they observed the pedestrians passing by them.
Most of these guys looked way too scary to just walk up to, with their teeth, claws, and heavy artillery. Some of these guys looked like they'd squash the two of them like bugs for even looking in their direction. One figure stood out among the pack, the only one that didn't look. like he was in a hurry to go somewhere. DIo looked harmless enough, around the same size as them ,and had a cool jacket to boot. The two of them locked onto him immediately, but Vem almost charged straight toward him where he stood. moxie had to catch him by the back of his vest, Vem's body swinging forward a bit before landing back on the ground. "Calm down, we don't want to scare him off...Or kill us immediately." sighed Moxie. Vem chuckled awkwardly "Right, my bad." He said, rubbing the back of his head. The two of them then approached Dio at a walking pace, as Moxie initiated with a wave. "Hello, do you mind if we talk to you?"

He waited. And he waited. And as boredom began to creep in he still waited some more. Try as he might even if he was slowly starting to regret being left alone with his many confusing thoughts, Dio still couldn't come up with a better idea to pass the time other than laying against a wall and staring at the underground ceiling. If he thought too hard about anything else, he might start considering what he was supposed to tell his brother if he ever saw him again, and despite knowing that possibility was a far off one, he still didn't dared entertaining it.
Luckily before things could get more introspective, he was startled out of his stupor by the sound of a voice calling out in his direction. He would finally look away from the oh so interesting ceiling and in the direction of the voice, only to be met by a Petitmamon and a Shamanmon walking towards him.
A bit surprised, Dio would turn to look behind himself so as to make sure they weren't talking to someone else. He got his answer rather quickly as it was then that he remembered the only thing behind him was a wall. Awkward.
A quick round of mental self cursing after that he'd turn to the two approaching mons once more, giving them a small nod of his head in acknowledgment.
"Hey." He raised a single eyebrow, somewhat unsure what two complete strangers could possibly want with him. If nothing else, at least he didn't seem immediatelly on edge upon being approached. "Uh, sure? Is something the matter?" He asked, audibly confused but nonetheless polite.

The two of them both moved to speak at the same time at Dio's affirmation. Vem, seeing this, let Moxie take the lead from here. Even if he hadn't had much practice talking to people, it was clear Moxie had already surpassed Vem in that regard. Moxie began to articulate what he wanted, doing his best to not say anything offensive or offputting. "The two of us were wondering if you knew how to evolve, and if you could teach us?" He spoke pretty eloquently, so much so that it clashed with the hustle and bustle of the intense-looking digimon surrounding them. He didn't say anything particularly strange, but the way he said it had something strange about it. A tinge of malice snuck its way into the sentence like a hidden blade. The small digimon's plea, while it seemed earnest, had the faintest bit of venom that many people wouldn't catch on their first listen. It didn't seem to be directed at Dio, but the small digimon definitely gave off a specific vibe about him that was hard to pinpoint. It was like looking at a jigsaw puzzle that fit together perfectly, just in the wrong places.
Meanwhile, Vem had a pretty earnest expression on his face, as vacant as his thoughts seemed to be. Moxie then spoke up once more "If you don't know it's okay, but is there a place where we could learn some stuff?" Once again a very sincere plea. Like pouring sugar into a bitter cup of tea, Moxie was doing his absolute best to come across as friendly and unassuming.

"H-huh?" Try as he might to remain composed and polite, he couldn't help but stare in complete disbelief at the two of them, the question utterly blindsiding him. Was...was it really possible for a digimon to not know how to evolve? Well...the more he thought about it yeah, it was possible, but extremely unlikely unless they had been born (or reborn) practically yesterday, which granted was a distinct possibility, even if the pair didn't look like it.
"I'm sorry I was just...I don't think anyone has asked me that before." He stammered back, realizing he had been staring in silence for perhaps a bit too long. "Just to be clear, you're asking me because you don't know how? This isn't some sort of weird survey, right?"
Or worse, one of those prank videos of questionable quality Carlos had shown him forever ago. Honestly the idea of being an unwitting participant of a sorry spectacle like that made him visibly cringe, but truth be told the petitmamon seemed honest in his questioning. He couldn't quite be sure of just how innocent this simple query really was (or wasn't) however, but that didn't mean he was just going to brush it off.
"Well..." He gave it some thought, gaze wandering towards the Deephold, thinking if Carlos would be there already and how long would it take him to finish his business there. His eyes met back with the other two mons soon after, and with a considerably more relaxed shrug he'd finally reply, "Yeah, alright, I guess I have time. What is it you two wanna know about it?"

In all honesty, Moxie expected this to go way worse. He was pretty on edge given the ambiance of the city, but this Digimon seemed pretty friendly all things considered, so he decided to risk it and cut to the chase. He exhaled in relief, before starting "Would evolving change how I look and sound? Will it change how I think? Furthermore, would I be able to go back if I do end up evolving?" Moxie let out this string of questioning just a bit too fast. He was well spoken, but it was clear even he could get a bit worked up. Vem nudged Moxie on the shoulder a bit, to which he seemingly snapped out of it and quickly calmed down. Vem then piped up "He's wants to know if there's a way he can evolve faster too." he added. Moxie sheepishly looked down and said "Yeah, and that too..."
The two of them seemed familiar enough by their actions, but it was hard to get a read on how long they've known each other. The Sharmamon somehow swapped from being dense to wise on a dime, and the Petitmamon, likewise, seemed hyper-intelligent but lacking basic knowledge about this world. These two were pretty distinct, to put it lightly. The difficulty of teaching these two seemed pretty up in the air at this point, but the questions were fairly basic all things considered. The two digimon looked to the Impmon with eager eyes, waiting for his answer to their questions.
