"Ya know, I don't get it. the girl burns herself out in normal school, factors the Digital World into her life, and is a member of the Deeplane Council, and somehow when she should get a month long break from school she chooses to sacrifice it for the same at a more challenging school when she is going to have to go back to the first school in the first place?" Tera said inside the Fusion Loader. Inside the pocket storage realm of the Digivice, all of Kai's army was sitting around in a circle, unable to see the world as the window to the outside world was blocked by darkness while it sat inside Kai's purse.
Meanwhile in the outside world, was crunch time at the moment for Kai as she was in the midst of an exam. Her time in the Digital World had little impact on her normal school, in some cases the slower timeframe of the Digital World allowed her to get more done then before if she didn't require the internet or collaboration with her peers for certain assignments. So when the School Year was coming to an end, Kai applied, qualified, and got accepted into a special program at her top choice university that lets her take two different University courses early, each being taught extensively for roughly two and a half weeks at a time. It wasn't for the feint of heart and required a high average to get in. Study times were definitely crucial for this program.
In normal school Kai was exceptional, near the top of her grade as she devoted herself to hard work and utilized her time to the maximum. However when her army thought she was finally going to be taking a well deserved break, she revealed that she had plans for the full time off from high school. "I mean I get it, she seems to get the same thrill from studying that I get out of a good race." Mach said as he was trying to offer some form of understanding to the situation. "That is most likely incorrect. The General is diligent and takes responsibilities and duties seriously. Her obligations as a student dictate she advance her learning and standing to the best of her ability and if her abilities are superior, she is to reach as high as she possibly can." Sarge said as he was strict as ever. He focused and dedicated to his new posting in the Vehicle Expedition Army.
"Eh, I think the Speed Freak and the Glorified Boot Kisser are overreaching. Ain't it obvious that you all are annoying on the ears, some of you not pretty on the eyes." He said turning slightly away from Sarge who didn't even seem to react as he stayed quite stoic. "She probably enrolled in the program to just have the excuse to focus on something sane and normal for once and not be able to get away as much as before. Let's face it, you all ain't so easy to put up with." Solarmon huffed.
"Hey! Don't be so negative. Nothing wrong with wanting to expand your skills and abilities, helps open options for gaining cash in the future." Deac said his piece as he had his own thoughts on the matter. He was not wrong and there was definitely a silent acknowledgement of the wisdom of such words, however coming from Deac there was a certain element to consider on whether it was wisdom or desperation that motivates his pursuit for self improvement.
"You only say that Deac because you have a gambling debt bigger then Japan's national debt." Diggy said, she was laying down and poked her head up a bit to gaze at Deac. "Miss Kai is someone who never stops trying to be better, she gives a lot and takes every good opportunity she gets, she even used the Digital World to her advantage even now!" The Missies said as the army recalled how throughout the six weeks of summer Break, the few times they returned back to the Digital World were when kai wanted to abuse the temporal differential to multiply her study time, especially right before the exam of the first and the day before the current exam. "Hope she's doing alright out there." The Missies said as they looked towards the gate.
"I'll go check." Tera said floating towards the window before Mach and sarge got in the way immediately. "That's a negative. Our orders are to stay put until ordered otherwise, by General Kai personally. NO EXCEPTIONS. Sarge said stretching his arms out. "Hey! I'm the only one here with a Holosuit!" SHe replied before Mach spoke up. "Yes but she is in the middle of an exam where any sign of cheating or funny business could be a bad sign and may risk getting her permanently banned from the university!"
"Oh right, yeah, I assume she's going to be fine... right?" She said before turning to Snowball. "You were her study buddy, what's your guess?" Tera asked the Yuki Agumon who spent the most time with Kai by far lately, the well educated Agumon variant did help her study and was a sounding board for a few assignments she had.
"Well in high school she's a very good student, near the top of her class with her lowest grades in the nineties. We had to remember to feed her at times as she worked hard. Honestly... I think she stands a pretty good chance." Snowball said as he was leaning against the window, listening. "Her peers however are a rather different story altogether." He explained as he was listening to the subtle panic on the outside, coming from everyone but the closest person to the Digivice.
Meanwhile in the outside world, Kai was sitting in the middle of the classroom. Her peers all around her were overworked, sweating, and a lot of them frantic. This program was marketed as a way to help those already ahead in school get even further ahead but that was far from the truth. It was originally meant to be a bit of a reality check to help those arrogant in High School to have an expectation of the future. Cramming just two out of many courses into a tight time frame made most of the students panic and collapse from the exhaustion, however there were those that passed and of course did receive the credits, but the average passing rate of this program was less then twenty percent out of five hundred students overall. The pressure and stress of trying to learn so much and meet such heavy standards.
However in the storm of anxiety there was one calm point, ironically Kai who was sitting in the center of the room. She was sitting at her desk poised as she was focused on her test, her hand delicately and elegantly filled in the sheets on the scantron card as she looked over the questions. It was all mostly multiple choice and true or false questions anyways, which to Kai was usually easy with her memory always easy to spark connections to find the correct answer as she always tries to search out for them before the questions arise. She did take the time to think through the choices, and she wasn't immune to stress either as she was trying quite hard to make sure she got the right answer. However not a groan, sigh, or even excessive breath escaped her lips as she remained diligent. She put herself through hell to be ready for this exam and she was definitely benefiting from everything, all the cramming, all the exploits she did to improve her studying.
She took her time and ran through everything in front of her before filling out several questions on the test. With fifteen minutes of the ninety allocated minutes to spare, Kai walked up to the professor and turned her test in before leaving. She send a text message to her grandmother that she got out of exam, followed by a series of texts congratulating her on sticking through the course and saying that she was proud of ehr; before emailing her a plane ticket for Kai to spend a few days in Oikinawa with her while she still had summer vacation.
"A beach vacation... sounds nice right now." Kai muttered to herself before putting her phone away, sighing as she wiped away bit of sweat.
Several days later while visiting her grandmother's estate in Oikinawa, she got an email from the university with her grades for the second course. She read it on the beach. "93%, darn that's a bit lower then I wanted. Guess I need to work a bit harder..." Kai muttered to herself.
