A single figure appeared softly in the darkness, as if from nowhere. A long tattered cloak dithered against the light wind. The figure turned on the spot before taking a step forward towards two lanterns hanging from wooden brackets.
It was impossible to make out any thing beyond the small amount of light cast by the lanterns. A desolate wasteland. It stretched on for hundreds of miles, perhaps even further than that. Further than the eyes could see. Supposedly it was devoid of any life and the sun had never once touched it. Not that it mattered now.
Sweeping the cloak aside, the figure raised a hand coated in armor of crimson. Pulling the hand down quickly, before returning it to beneath the cloak.
As it did so, the air around it, began to contort and warp. Like a yawning maw, the sky itself slowly tore apart. Finally creating a door-shaped passageway, swirling between the nothingness and the cloaked figure. Without a second thought, the figure stepped into it and the doorway closed with a snap like a dragon’s jaw closing over its prey.
Seconds later, the desolate wasteland had been replaced by a long hallway of black marble and red drapery. Candles dripping long strands of wax, lit the corridor, also revealing oil paintings of creatures, which appeared to be screaming, every so often. They let out odd cries which echoed in the encroaching darkness. The figure ignored them completely and continued to walk deeper and deeper into darkness.
Beyond, was a large living room. Equally as dark, only lit by the flickering flames from an ornate fireplace. “You’re back. We were, uh, worried that, uh… I forgot...” A extremely slow and deep voice called. It stepped forward towards the cast light and each step sounded like a mountain moving, rattling the dusty golden cutlery sat on the large table in the middle of the room.
“Ha. If you had any brains, you’d realize that you need not worry about anything. But, common sense would be a rare thing for you,” a second voice said, cold and callous. This one was girlish and let out a long shallow laugh before stepping forward too as to greet the newcomer. The three met in the center of the room. The cloaked figure paused for a second to look his two teammates.
Blastmon was utterly huge and physically strong, with a body of living crystal that seemed to glimmer against the flames cast by the fireplace. The vast bulk of it seemed to fill up most of the room and looked down at the other two with small dull eyes. “Uh, say what?” Although, this one wasn’t smart enough understand the difference between a rock and its own reflection. "I want to know what you--"
“Nevermind that, Blasty~. Just tell us, how did your mission go? Quick, quick,” the girlish voice called out cutting her companion off. Frustrated, she began to snap her fingers, impatiently. LovelyAngemon who was anything but, smiled in a mischievous sort of way. Small, and fair with twin tails of blond that hung to her sides and a mask hid her upper face. “Go on!” Even though the cloaked figure outranked her, she still dared to be this disrespectful. Something would need to be done about that at some point.

Without saying a word in response to the questions fired at him, the figure stepped forward towards the large wooden table. Pulling from under the cloak; a shimmering object wrapped in cloth, he laid it down and then stepped back. LovelyAngemon and Blastmon opened their mouths as if to say something but quickly closed them again. As if unable to help herself, LovelyAngemon raised a hand towards the cloth but they paused as a chilling sound passed through them, like ice.
“Looks like I arrived just in time for the show~”
A demented voice emanated from the very edges of the darkness itself, followed by a drawn out evil laugh. “Who is there,” Blastmon called out stupidly, spinning on the spot. The laughing continued, bouncing from wall-to-wall. “Diamond Machine Gun!”
Blastmon raised his hands and hundreds of small shards of his crystal skin tore through the darkness at high speed. There was a light ringing as the shards struck the floor and stuck there. However, there was no resulting slam of a body.
“No need for hostility, my “friends”. I come in peace.” “Uh, then, come on out. No hiding in the dark” Blastmon said, raising his arms again.
The cloaked figure had not moved. Standing like a statue, the cloak gently flapping in that chilling breeze. “Enough games. Reveal yourself.” the cloaked one called in a deep, carrying voice. Throwing out an arm to pause Blastmon’s attack.
Long thin, strangely fleshy arms stretched to controls below it. With the push of a joystick, the creature moved into sight; floating several feet from the ground in a silver UFO. A head with a brain that seemed to have swelled to at least twice its normal size stuck out from the top with great yellow eyes.
“I am Vademon. The lead on the very project you are discussing,” It said slowly, almost lovingly as it licked its pale lips. “Go on, Dorbickmon.”
The cloaked figure moved forward to the table. Undoing the cloth, slowly and carefully until it was revealed. A shard of a crystal lay between them, glimmering a bright pink against the encroaching darkness surrounding them.
“A shiny rock?”
LovelyAngemon spoke for the first time in minutes. All this time, her eyes had been fixed upon the mysterious wrapped object. Her face now looked flat, and rather annoyed. “All that build up, all that effort, all that… for a shiny rock??” Her voice was growing ever more shrill but her eyes were still focused on that glittered, star-strewn shard.
Once more, Dorbickmon raised a hand, this time to stop LovelyAngemon from snatching it.
“What do you think you are doing! I claim the useless rock, and it will be the most beautiful piece of jewellery for the most lovely of all Digimon.”
“You fool! You fool!” Vademon moved forward, slowly into the light. The pulsing of his brain ever more present. “You cannot touch it with your bare skin...”
“Unpurified as it is. This is a shard taken from a very rare source of Coral Crystal. It has a very engrossing cellular makeup, due to it’s approximate relationship...with darkness.” Vademon licked its lips again. “But, used correctly. This shard and much more, could do… so much…”

Vademon let out a very high-pitched, echoing laugh that send chills through everyone in the almost pitch-black room. Long thin tentacles stretched out from the base of the UFO and down to the floor and towards LovelyAngemon who still was trying to force her way past Dorbickmon. “My, my you sure are… lovely too. I see how you got that name.”
Pulling back her hand, LovelyAngemon stepped away and back into the darkness. Clearly disgusted by both Vademon and the shimmering stone. “Oh yes… this stone is just the start of our experiments and will lead up to… true… wonderful… glorious…”
“Pfft. No stone can do all that. You’re just some insane old…”
The cold voice called shrilly over the laugher and talk. Even though, she was hiding behind the massive bulk of Blastmon who was standing unemotionally in a corner.
“Insaaaane am I…. No-one has pushed science as far as I have for the benefit of my lord and master, of course. Nothing is of greater... ”
“Enough talk. Just demonstrate.” Dorbickmon interrupted in his deep commanding voice. The tentacles retracted, vanishing in the UFO.
“Oh, but, of course…” It let out another high-pitched giggle and pressed another button on the control panel below it. “Send in, EXPERIMENT THIRTEEEEEEN…”
Something had changed in Vademon’s visage. His eyes were popping and the veins in his oversized brain gesticulating wildly. It was leaning forward; a mix of triumph and great anticipation all over the pale, flat face.
From the darkness, another creature moved forward. Almost robotically, each step in line and perfectly spaced from the last. It paused right in front of Vademon and bowed. Revealing a metallic cloaked face quite like a gas mask and a body that looked oddly stuffed and rubberized.
“Brilliant, isn’t it. Strong and easily…. mass produced. It doesn’t feel pain. It doesn’t feel fatigue… it doesn’t fear death. It’s a perfect soldier but...” Once more it let out that terrible laugh, causing everyone except the motionless Troopmon to flinch. Vademon clicked his fingers. "It can be improved..."
The Troopmon moved into the middle of the room and bowed its head, low. A tentacle stretched from the UFO, once more, wrapping around the cloth and crystal beneath it which continued to light up the room with its eerie sparkle. Without letting the crystal touch bare skin, the tentacle moved slowly towards the bowed Troopmon. “What is happening?” Blastmon said, but not a single answer came. Everyone was far too transfixed on what Vademon was doing.
It happened in a second. The tentacle jutted forward and the crystal forced deep into the chest of the strange rubber creature. It fell to its knees and then smack, it fell motionlessly to the ground. There was a clunk of metal striking floor and then silence.
“Is it… did it?”
Again, not a single reply came. All eyes fixed on the alien, so far forward in its craft that it looked in danger of falling from it. Then, all of a sudden, the Troopmon jutted forward. It took a deep breath and began to pull itself across the floor like a worm. “Beautiful…”
It slowly rose from the ground. Somehow it looked broken and damaged; almost like its neck had been snapped. The eyes behind the mask had turned scarlet. The body was changing and becoming more muscular. Thick veins ripping out from beneath the formally rubber-like skin.
“The pure crystal… amplifies all attributes beyond their natural levels…but...” Vademon said with the coldest titter yet. The Troopmon jumped, quite suddenly and with such power it was carried across the room. A hand stretched out towards LovelyAngemon’s exposed throat.

The creature that crouched before them was longer a Digimon. It moved like a possessed marionette whose puppeteer didn’t how to control it. Slowly dragging itself forward without any care for what it did to its own body, which was torn and ripped, by the expansion of muscles and the effort of its movements.
The red eyes behind the mask flashed and before anyone could react. It pounced up into the air, an arm out-stretched grasping at the darkness. Reaching for whatever or whoever it could reach and the first thing it saw was LovelyAngemon. It was reaching up for her neck as if it was going to throttle her; the long silver fingers gyrating rapidly.
Then, it fell to the ground. Quite dead. Blocks of data evaporating from the fallen body and moving up into the air. LovelyAngemon, Blastmon and Dorbickmon turned. As did the UFO bound Vademon, who looked scandalized as if its own child had been killed before its very own eyes. Standing between the darkness and the dimly lit parlor was a figure that did nothing more than exude strength and power with every breath it took.
It moved forward slowly; dissipating its lance-arm into mist. Silver bodied, with plated body armor which shimmered oddly bright in the darkness. A crimson crown hung from the helm matching with the long cape that hung and stirred in the breeze. "Good afternoon all," Gallantmon said, in a mock cheerful tone. "No words? Nothing to say to me?"
Without speaking, Dorbickmon bowed his head low. While the other two merely looked stunned, their faces contorted into something like sailors with sea-sickness. Gallantmon moved past the group and the fallen Digimon that was slowly evaporating back into nothingness. It sat down on the tallest chair at the head of the table and sighed loudly. “In future. We shall keep our experiments confined to the lab, yes?”
“Yes, we apolo--” Dorbickmon began to say but Gallantmon cut across him. “The results could be… promising as you said.”
The alien sat forward, licking its lips as if it was savoring every word. “Thank you... hearing those exact words from the Whirlwind General himself i-” It let out a high-pitched cackle which filled the parlor.
For the second time, Gallantmon cut across him, far more cold and threatening. Vademon stopped laughing at once, although, his eyes continued to bulge rapidly. “If any of this was to… escape or any trace learned of it and this entire operation will be blown. In which case…”
Blastmon, LovelyAngemon and Dorbickmon all gulped as they felt the air turn cold around them. It felt as if a fierce aura has been released, wrapped around each of them was swallowing them up and then it faded. “In which case… who knows what could happen next.”
Without giving them a second to answer, he looked to each of them in turn and said in the coldest tone yet. “You are all dismissed. This meeting and this demonstration are complete. Begone from my sight.”
Dorbickmon turned and left. The other two following closely behind. Finally Vademon turned and with a noise pressed a joystick to move the UFO towards the open doors back out into the dark corridor beyond. “So this is the beloved hero of the Digital World, Gallantmon… very interesting. This arrangement couldn’t be more sweet. I can’t wait to see what comes of all of it.” With a final and most terrible laugh, Vademon pushed past Blastmon and LovelyAngemon and vanished from sight back out into the wasteland beyond.
