Armand gasped as he collapsed on the sandy ground. How long was he walking through the desert surrounding the Ancient Ruins? He wished he could have used the motorcycle. Unfortunately, he has a new issue to deal with that disallowed him to do so and that was in the form of a familiar imp Digimon approaching him.
"Seriously?! Is that all you got, Armand? Come on, put your back into it!"
Armand groaned and caught his breath. Then, he turned to the Digimon and said, "You really love bossing people and Digimon around when you're still a Spirit. You do realize I'm not physically fit when it comes to long-term hiking through a desert. It would have been easier if you bought a car, Shade!"
The imp Digimon groaned next. "Well, can you afford a supercar I saw in the magazine back in your office? Besides, I didn't ask for whoever did this to get my Digimon body back! Sure, I'm happy for this strange phenomenon. But I rather stay in your body. It's very comfy."
"You know my body isn't a hotel suite." Armand took a look at his Digivice. But it wasn't the same one that transformed from his smartphone. Instead, it was a wrist device resembling a fitness activity tracker and a small smartwatch. "But it's not like I can do anything about it. I'm also lost regarding our unique situation and I was hoping revisiting your home would give us some answers."
"Good luck with that," Shade shrugged. "This is my first time encountering it and even I don't know how we can regain your status as a Spirit Wielder."
Armand sighed. "Either way, we can't just stand around and do nothing. Let's get to the temple and see if they can do something about our s-"
Before he could finish, he was suddenly tackled by Shade. When he did, a stream of blue flames almost hit both of them just as Armand fell on his back.
"W-Wha?! Shade, what's going on?!" Armand demanded.
The Impmon X growled as he saw several Digimon riding through the desert sands on motorcycles while swinging their axes and maces around with two dinosaur-like Digimon with blades attached to their backs running alongside them.
"Hahaha! That was almost a bullseye, Spinomon!" A green ogre shouted. "You almost turn the sand into glass!"
"I would have killed those two posers if I did," Spinomon said. "Either way, looks like we might get our chance to plunder their loot, Ogremon!"
"Yeah!" Everyone else yelled in a twisted excitement.
"Okay, now that's just unfair!" Shade protested. "How come they get to ride on bikes while you won't let me?!"
Armand groaned. "I don't think this is a good time to discuss that. Right now, they're heading right for us. We should try to convince them not to attack us with a-"
However, he gasped to see Shade rushing towards the Digimon gang with flames both in his hands. "Night of Fire!"
He tossed the flames at them, causing the Digimon to jump out of their bikes as they hit them and exploded on contact.
"Hey! That costs 10,000 Bytes, pip-squeak!" Ogremon growled.
"Sorry, just making sure you guys won't make a hit-and-run on me and my h- I mean, Tamer," Shade snarked as Armand rushed to his side.
"Shade, what are you doing?! We're supposed to diffuse the situation, not escalate it!" Armand scolded.
"Can you blame a Digimon? Besides, I feel like those guys are not in a mood for a small talk." Shade turned to the Digimon next. "Hey, you guys are not planning to let us go, do you?"
"Hmph... How can we let you go when you still have some loot with you? If you don't let them all go, then we'll think about it," Spinomon demanded.
Shade grinned. "You say that, but it's not like you guys are the type to keep promises. Besides, all of you are too stupid to face a Shadow Warrior in an unfair fight."
Armand's eyes widened in shock. "W-Wait, Shade! What are you doing?!"
But he was suddenly interrupted by a burst of laughter from the Digimon bandits.
"What can an itty-bitty Impmon would do to us?" Spinomon taunted in a brief high-pitched tone. "Your little fire trick may have caught us off guard, but you're dealing with the Ultimate here, kiddie!"
"I-Itty?!" Shade then turned to Armand next. "Hey! Don't just stand there! You're now my Tamer. So help me Digivolve into my true form!"
"Huh?! You're asking the impossible here! And I told you we're supposed to use wor-!"
However, Shade noticed the Digimon coming closer. He jumped up and slapped Armand in frustration. "Words, my ass! Why can't you open your eyes already?! There's a time and place for talking and a time and place for fighting! You already experienced that when you Spirit Evolved into Loweemon. Now get your butt out of your head and fight!"
He frowned at this. Armand was still frustrated at this choice. Then again, those Digimon were not planning to go through with their offer. He might as well prepare for the worst. "Alright, fine! Don't blame me if I screw this up." He then raised his arm with the strange wristwatch. "Shade, get ready to Digivolve!"
"I don't know what you two are chattering about, but that won't work on me!"
The Spinomon started charging towards Shade as another one of its kind along with Ogremon, Ginkakumon, and Tuskmon were cheering for its leader. "Blue Prominence!" The Dinosaur Digimon released another stream of blue flames from its mouth, engulfing the imp completely.
"Shade!" Armand yelled, horrified to see his Digimon in flames. He then turned to the Digimon gang and shouted, "How could you...! He only attacked because he wanted to protect me!"
"Who cares?! Bytes and treasures are all that matter to us and we don't care about your so-called partner. And if you don't want to end up like him, then you should listen to what we say!" Ogremon demanded. "Now hand over your treasures! That also includes the one in your wrist!"
Armand froze in shock. Despite his risky decision to fight, he only meant to protect him. And yet, those bandits scoff it off as trash. In the end, Shade made the right decision and he didn't want to waste his sacrifice like this!
Then, the screen on his watch started to glow and a familiar voice rang from the flames.
"Impmon X Digivolve to...!"
A bright purple light flashed from the flames as Spinomon's eyes widened and backed away.
"Hey! What's wrong with you, Spinomon?!" Tuskmon asked.
"I-I don't know! I feel like...something is pushing me away!"
That was all Spinomon could say before the flames suddenly blew away, pushing him back to the bandits and falling on his back as his blades almost hit his comrades. As for Armand, he grew speechless as the flames dispersed away, revealing a familiar humanoid in black and gold lion armor and spear.
"Lowemon!" He cried out.
"Shade, you're okay!" Armand said in relief.
The newly-Digivolved Lowemon turned his head and flashed a thumbs-up to his Tamer. "Seriously, don't count out the Warrior of Shadows just yet! It might be delayed, but glad you managed to figure out the whole Tamer thing."
Armand smiled. "I'm just lucky, that's all." He turned to the bandits next. "Want to take care of those miscreants next?"
"Hmph! My pleasure!" Shade twirled his spear. "Let me show you how the real Warrior fights!"
Spinomon growled at the sight of the newly evolved Loweemon and turned to the other Digimon. "Why are guys still standing around here for?! Get that wannabe Digimon!"
The Digimon bandits charged in with a cry and scream towards Armand and Shade with their weapons raised. Shade responded by twirling his spear again and shouted, "Lance Éclair!"
He rapidly thrust his spear three times. Spinomon tried to avoid it. But to his surprise, he couldn't avoid them all and ended up being overwhelmed by his attacks.
"Don't even think about it, you wannabe Champion!"
The rest of the Digimon continued charging towards Shade. But he turned around and the red jewels on his lion-shaped chest armor started to glow red. "Regard Sombre!" At the sight of the jewels, the bandits started to yawn as they noticed their eyes were getting heavy. "Why don't you guys nod off for a while?"
The bandits tried to step forward to follow the Spinomon's orders. But they were overwhelmed by Shade's power and fell unconscious, much to the bladed spine dinosaur's horror. "You monster... You're going to pay!" Spinomon roared before charging to the duo followed by another.
"You're not going to endure with two Spinomon powers! Prepare to die!" Another Spinomon cried out in fury.
But the Lowemon cackled and said, "Yeah, there's no way I can take on two Ultimates at once. It's a good thing I don't play fair. Cercueil Sombre!" His whole body turned into a black smoke-like mist and enveloped himself around one of the Spinomon like wrapping papers. It tried to struggle out of his wispy. But they felt like they couldn't breathe as the other noticed his own kind's predicament.
"No! Get away from them!" The Spinomon leader demanded.
"Okay~"
The wisp removed himself from the second Spinomon before he turned back into Lowemon. The first one rushed to their side before glaring at the black warrior. "You're going to pay for that!"
"Sorry, I have no money. But I can pay with this." The mouth of his lion chest armor opened as a gold aura gathered around it. "Intensive Endlich Meteor!"
Shade stretched out his whole body just as his chest armor fired a large golden laser beam at the two Spinomon. They grew speechless for a while as they stared at the beam. But then, they screamed just as it struck both of them while Armand quickly hid behind the pillar to avoid it. As the beam disappeared, Shade landed on the ground and Armand left the pillar as they watched the dust settle and the two Spinomon covered in burns and bruises.
"So... Wanna try again, boys?" Shade taunted. "Come on! I'm just a wannabe Champion Digimon~"
However, one of them growled and grabbed the other. "Even we have limits on dealing weird Digimon! Don't think this is the last you see of us, bastard!"
They quickly grabbed their unconscious allies and ran away before they could respond.
"Well... That went well as we expected," Shade said before devolving into Impmon X. "Guess that means my powers are more superior than a mere Spinomon!"
Armand groaned. "Or they might be humiliated because of your dirty tricks. Regardless, at least we ended the fight without a fatality. We should move on before more of them come."
"Right, le-"
Suddenly, Armand stopped Shade and glared at him. "But the moment you tried to attack them without my permission again, I might consider buying that Digimon storage option back at Terminus."
Shade's eyes widened as he watched his Tamer walking away. "No, wait! Anything but that! This Tamer stuff might be temporary, so you don't need to buy a V-Pet!" But he grew panicked once he noticed he didn't stop walking. "Come on! I promise not to attack them and I will clean your apartment once a week! Just please, don't buy that dreaded upgrade!"
For the rest of the trip, the Impmon X chased his Tamer through the desert sand as another crisis was averted.
At the price of being disciplined, of course.
